I have no idea who will see this (maybe just me!) but that ticks my accountability box 🙌🏻 I’m Charlie, a 40 something mum of 3 and I love to run. I ran a lot before kids (snuck in the @londonmarathon when I was 5 months pregnant with my eldest back in 2011 which is still one of my proudest moments) I loved racing with my old club @dulwichrunners and was always seeking the next challenge and pb. A decade on things are pretty different. Time, juggling 3 jobs, fitness and injury, self belief… But I am still driven, maybe more. And after doubting I could ever run fast again I’ve got the racing itch 🫣 I’ve got a target in mind that is possibly mad/impossible. Managed to drag along my lovely friend Jana for a Saturday morning run as part of our girls catch up weekend 🙌🙌 And made it to a new @parkrunuk , my third closest at the lovely Wimbledon Common 🌳 It was a PROPER slip and slide yesterday after a night full of rain with some serious mud and puddles - I would recommend not wearing your shiny new clean pink running shoes like I did….which are now very much not clean and more brown 😂 However it is a lovely off-road course which I will definitely be back for! A two lapper through the trails, however I’d definitely describe it as a summer course after yesterday’s mud fest 👣 A much smaller turnout than my local parkrun which was nice, although still 400 odd people so not exactly small. Some excellent canine runners too 🐕 and even an on-course photographer! Only downside was not seeing a proper purple parkrun sign, which as everyone knows, is the only accepted evidence you went to a parkrun 👀🤨 We settled for a photo with the Wimbledon windmill but I better go back and find the sign another time! London Marathon 2024 professional photos Part 1 Lots of photos to get through and they are all great so stay tuned for more to come 😜 As I always tell everyone we must celebrate our achievements and that includes me celebrating mine. So I have completed 7 marathons in 5 years and I am super proud of myself for that. This takes dedication and commitment plus I just love it what can I say. Throughout my life I have battled with my weight and still do but that has never stopped me doing the sports which I love including football, swimming, tennis, badminton, squash. A comment I got this week was "What you completed a marathon, but you are chubby". My answer "I have completed 7 actually thank you very much". Other comments I get is why are you not more slimmer with all the running you do. It is what it is and I have never found a solution to it and have just ignored it. I can honestly say I have never felt a demand quite like it on Sunday, mentally, emotionally & most of all physically. . 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟: Really strong start, to be fair up to around mile 18… then the darkness of doubt crept in. • Mile 9 - the @ibc_andmerd hug! And banner, thank you @em9le 🩷 kept me going. • Mile 22 was where I stared to struggle. • Pulled the pace back. If I was going to finish with that smile and those thumbs I knew I needed to stop pushing so hard. My knees were pulling, calves were tight - I felt like I was entering actual hell. But kept pushing. I even kept saying out loud “Keep going Laura - you’ve got this. Keep moving forward” • Mile 25 - the Emotional one! ALOT of tears. I needed the end insight, I’d gone into panic mode, couldn’t breathe I felt so alone yet the whole of London had me in its arms! • The end. THE TEXT MESSAGE of confirmation… more tears, a hug from a stranger and the Medal of Honor! . • The aim: was always Sub 4 • The Goal: 3:50 • The Dream: 3:45 . • 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭 - PB 🥇 𝟑:𝟒𝟖 ∙ . *actually still in shock* 5k PB sounds normal. Marathon PB is just mental! . So to be sitting somewhere between my goal and my dream is a pretty incredible place to be!! . I owe so much to my coach @project.run.crew! I just don’t even know what to say…. . Once again - London has my heart and maybe a little bit of my soul. London Marathon 2024 🇬🇧 what a rollercoaster.... Firstly, thank you to everyone who came out to support me in the race (even the people who mis-read "Army" and called me Amy - I'll take anything 🤣). Not quite the race I wanted but a PB is a PB so I'll take that (2.40.08). I came 7th in the mass start, 10th British Female overall, 1st Inter-Service and Army 😍 But the best part was my Dad making the trip to London and surprising me during the race! It's been a bit of a tough week since I've only just found out my time and it was frustrating that the issue was out of my control. It meant that it tainted my feelings about the race and any sense of accomplishment. But mainly I was embarrassed and felt that I had to explain that it wasn't me who ran 2.25. The silver lining is that people have been incredibly supportive and have sent me some wonderful messages - which makes me feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such lovely people. Also, it fills me with confidence that people actually believed I was capable of 2.25 - I'm taking this forward and just using it as valuable experience and motivation. We love running but we also love to celebrate our achievements 😊 I started Monday evening heading solo to the New Balance store to get my medal engraved. I ended the evening with this lovely bunch ❤️ this is the beauty of the running community. I wasn't aware of the medal framing until @parkrunneruk told me when I saw him at the New Balance store. So happy I got this done as well as getting a frame for Sherif for his 1 mile PB at the Mini Marathon. He was so happy when I gave it to him. We headed to @billsrestaurant for Burger and chips with Peach ice tea followed by @francomancapizza 😜 we made good use of the rewards on offer to us for our marathon accomplishments. I hear @hoka is looking for Ambassadors. Oh hello (3 second) PB! Hey, a PB is a PB. And thus ends my sub 20 5k attempt which obv was a fail BUT I have managed to knock over a minute off my solo PB and 22 seconds off my paced PB. That pesky 20 will still be there for me to smash over the next few months so with a few more sessions on the track and hyrox, I reckon i’ll get there✌🏼. 🏁 Finish Line Feels! 🏁 I spent a lot more effort on my photo poses this year than my marathon pacing 🤦♀️ The finish line of the @londonmarathon is really very special. The first few times I ran this race I totally didn’t notice Buckingham Palace - you kind of have to look left as you turn the corner to see it but it’s pretty big and hard to miss! After London, I rushed straight into Hackney Half. My body hadn’t really recovered and I pushed waaaay too hard and had the first of a series of injuries. That meant time off. Then I came back too quick. Time off. Back too qui… you can see the theme, right? Take this post-marathon glow to reset for the year. It’s something I wish I had done. Come join us at @tracksmithrunning on Sundays for some easier, more social and chatty miles for a bit. Or try some different SLR speeds or distances. Follow @steverunsldn’s example and try run clubs. Maybe give track a whirl (Twilight 5000 is coming 👀). Basically, just enjoy running for a bit. That’s allowed. Your body will thank you for it. Your mind will as well. Boston & London Marathon 🇺🇸🇬🇧 Two marathons in a week. I remember last time I did two consecutive “big” races should be Lavaredo 120k & Marathon du Mont Blanc 90K in one week. It is quite funny and painful, you need to have a good plan for this. Boston Marathon 🇺🇸 2:59:28 Sunny and warm, my target is just sub 3 and hopefully have something left for London. The atmosphere was exceptional and the course was full of supporter. The pacing was well managed although it was a little bit marginal compare with the target. Last mile was the craziest moment for me to ensure I can complete my target.🥵 London Marathon 🇬🇧 2:52:51 Not feeling ready when I was in start line but “the show must go on”. Everything quit good until 30K, both hamstrings start to cramp. I was counting down every Km and hopefully did not slowing down any more. Luckily, the pain was manageable and finish safely.
