It’s that time of the week again and we are dropping into your feed for more tough love. 👇 It’s easy to TELL you, “Girrrrlll. Stop comparing your writing journey to others!” It's easy to look at someone else's success and feel like you're falling behind. You’re not a bad person for feeling envy. Logically, you KNOW every author has their own unique journey, filled with ups and downs, triumphs and failures. We need to focus our energy on something else instead. Comparison is the thief of joy, YADA YADA but SERIOUSLY does it rob you of the energy you need to continue on your writing path. You have to refuse to play that game. Learn to recognize unhelpful thoughts. Commit to recalibrating them. Don't let someone else's highlight reel diminish your progress. Your words, your voice, and your stories are unique to you and that's your power. Instead of comparison, pick up courage. Courage to write your truth, courage to share your words with the world, and courage to keep going, even when the going gets tough. Remember, you're not in competition with other authors. You're in a community. So let's lift each other up and celebrate each other's successes. After all, there's room for all of us in the world of literature. Keep writing, your words matter.
Ssssh, come here - I have a secret for you 👀🤫 Okay cool, you're in? You can hear me? Excellent. Ready? 💭You have an editing process for a reason💭 When you're writing your story, don't worry so much about refining it as you write. Write, then when you go to edit, refine. Why? Because sometimes in order to get from point a to b, you need it to start as getting from point a to k. Then when it's time to edit, you get rid of the letters in between and K becomes the new B. Why should you do this? Here's why: ✅ You know where you're starting and you know where you want to go, but how to get there in a way that's most logical might feel like a struggle. Writing out everything in between can help you go with the flow and understand what direction you need to take your story in. ✅ You don't actually know where B is quite yet. You might have a general idea, OR you might have absolutely no idea at all. Allowing yourself to write the scenes that come through - even if they feel odd or you already KNOW that they're going to be scrapped in the editing process - they somehow manage to get you to where you want to be in a way that makes sense. repeat after me: there's an editing process for a reason. Bible Post 5 of ??? Genesis 1:26 When I read the Bible, I found the line 'And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our own likeness' (Genesis 1:26) very interesting for two reasons. To begin with, if Christianity and Judaism are considered monotheistic religions, why have plural pronouns ('us' and 'our') been used. Secondly, who is God talking to? The reason for this grammatical discrepancy was due to a mistranslation of the verse when the Bible was translated from Hebrew to English. In Genesis 1:26, the word translated as 'God' in English was 'elohim' in the Hebrew original. The word 'elohim' does not mean 'God' (singular noun) but instead means 'Gods (plural nouns)'. This is the reason why plural pronouns are used as they are grammatically correct in their usage in the Hebrew original but not in the English mistranslation. The same mistranslation can also be found in Genesis 3:22. Hi. I’m Taylor. Like many people, I daydream. And I daydream a lot. I started writing those daydreams down about sixteen years ago and passing them to friends in class instead of actually doing any school work. I filled binders, drained the ink from pens, and have permanently poor posture from trying to keep teachers from seeing what I was actually writing all the time. Throughout my life, the physical writing paused, but the daydreams never did. Eventually I picked up again, never sharing with anyone, just keeping story after story confined to my phone. However, my current WIP just felt bigger than that. So I wrote it all down. And for the first time ever, I was able to finish a draft instead of leaving an open ended story. I’d love for anyone to join me on this journey as I try to maybe make something of this.
