I Must Betray You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh I loved this! I don't know why I think I "don't like" historical fiction bc I'm always so engrossed in what I'm reading when I do read it. Man, I learned a ton reading this book. I was so intrigued I did some outside research of my own while reading. The Romanian Revolution was definitely not something I ever learned about, so to be able to now was fun! Plus, story of Liliana and Cristian was sweet, and I also loved how the family dynamics were a heavy piece of the story. It was hard to know who to trust, ever, even within their own family. I definitely recommend this book! It's technically YA, but it doesn't read like it🤗 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited #bookborrowing #bookish

Wow !!!! What a book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐edit sorry about my spelling mistake in the pic 😅 😬 Loved it. The Story starts with Sally Diamond trying to cremate her late father in the incinerator. Clearly Sally needs some help in life. The book tells her story in a very clever way across 2 timeliness that come together perfectly at the end. Also who's is 'S' in NZ and why is Mark so intrigued with Sally? Would I recommend it................... Mother’s Day request: leave alone so I can read. Okay, I love Ruth Ware’s story telling. She is a mastermind and twisty. However, it felt too much like a spy novel and that’s not my favorite genre. But the twist though. Man that twist. I did not see that coming at all. The main female character, Jack, was interesting. She was smart but yet sometimes you wanted to scream at her “trust no one!” Read this if you like high tech thrillers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ruthware #zerodays #barnesandnoble #bookborrowing #booksbooksbooks #thrillers #thriller #thrillerbooks #tech #womenintech #womenauthors

One of those moments just brought ‘The Giant Jam Sandwich’ by John Vernon Lord back to me 😊 I never owned a copy but I added it to my library borrowing card every chance I had during Primary School. Gosh I loved it! Now I need to snap up a copy from somewhere 🐝

Killer Cult ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Don't let my rating fool you, I actually really liked this book. Let me explain! It's only about 160-170 pages, so it was short. The story itself had so much potential, I wanted moreeee. More romance between Fallon and Jack, more details about the weird cult, more please! I'm definitely planning to read the next one, hoping for some satisfying plot lines. The sun is shining today! I'm hoping to get some outside time with my book this evening ☀️📖 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited #libby

Book 29 of 2024: Almond by Won-Pyung Sohn ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ This is about two monsters. The first is our narrator, Yunjae, a boy who have difficulty in feeling emotions—joy, sorrow, fear, anger, and everything in between—due to a condition called alexithymia. The two almonds inside out head that stimulate emotions are two small to send signal. His mother would make him eat almonds hoping it would develop the ones inside his head. The second monster is his classmate, Gon, who got separated from his mother as a toddler and has now been found as a teenager, turned unruly by the life so far, while his mother is on the deathbed. But it is not them I want to talk about today. I want to talk about the third monster. Earlier this month I was told something that I haven’t heard in years, almost over a decade. About my eyes being dead, not reciprocating any sort of signal. A stillness that unnerves people making them averse to me, the window to my soul shut steadfast. As a kid when my mother or teachers would say this it would leave me confused, I didn't have the words at my disposal to register their problem. Now when I see my dead eyes in childhood photos I can laugh with my sister over it, the frequency of my photos since having decreased exponentially. Another time, in 9th grade, my mother who is a teacher of our school, came to ask how my paper went, it was Hindi exam. I told her that I mistakenly missed two question of one marks each. Right around that time the counsellor of our school had come to call a student for his session. He was absent, so my mother suggested to have a session with me. On the hindsight, it unnerved the counselor. She kept asking me for the first five minutes how it is making me feel about this sudden meeting. Nothing, absolutely nothing. I didn’t have a single thought in my head. I am not sure if she believed it. About 5-6 years ago I was chatting with a stranger, she was a decade older than me. I said something about being depressed but finding repose in something, I don't remember the details, to which she asked if I was diagnosed with depression. I haven’t. And since then I was stubborn to never use that word to describe my state of self. 1/2

Book 28 of 2024: Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A comforting slice of life story told in two parts of a shy introverted girl named Takako in her 20s who is terrible at judging people. In the first part we see Takako silently undergo a disastrous breakup with a colleague which could have easily been a start to a revenge thriller story, fell into deep melancholy, leaves her job and accepts her uncle's invitation rather reluctantly to stay in the upstairs room of his bookshop while helping him to manage the store. As her days in Morisaki Bookshop pass by in lassitude, she slowly but steadily finds solace in discovering the love of reading, in the distinct calmness of the neighbourhood despite its chaotic outlook, in forming new acquaintances with the eccentric customers, in being surer of herself. Yasukuni Street where this bookshop is situated is a “wonderland of secondhand books” as Takako describes it on her very first visit, with rows of bookshops on both sides, each of them specialising in a niche collection of books. That neighbourhood has the largest concentration of secondhand bookshops in the world, Takako's uncle informed, it was a centre of culture in the early 20th century with many schools being built in that area. This was enough for me to fall in love with the book as it reminded me of College Street (daak naam Boi Para) we have here in Kolkata (aka Calcutta) which is stuffed with hundreds of book stalls and bookshops selling books ranging from newest releases to those out of print, landmarked by Calcutta University, Presidency College, Kolkata Medical College and many more. College Street is the largest book market in Asia and the largest second-hand book market in the whole world that came to be with the development of these various schools and universities throughout the 19th century. There is a saying, “If you can't find a book in College Street, it probably doesn't exist.” Later we see Takako discover a quaint old coffee shop in the neighbourhood, which I couldn't help but draw parallels with the Indian Coffee House we have at College Street. 1/2

The Reappearance of Rachel Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved it!! Loovveddd. I didn't see the end coming at all, honestly. Loved the twists and turns to get to a great ending. If you liked GGGTM I definitely recommend this book! It's technically YA I think but honestly I could hardly tell. Rachel Price is really awesome, Bel was equally awesome. This book was a thrilling ride. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. The heart pounding ending. This is my first Ruth Ware but won’t be my last. However, the only thing I’m not sure of it how the uncles truly didn’t know about Harriet and Maggie and the father. (I won’t do any spoilers). Also how did Hal not realize who Maud was from the photo from Abel. Other than a few plot questions I have to say this was a thrilling book. I liked the gothic house setting (shocking right?!). Mrs. Westaway was something else. I am not sure what else to say. The ending seemed a little rushed. Like I’m not entirely sure how she can just be OKAY WITH THOSE PEOPLE. But I guess a messed up family is better than none?! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ruthware #thedeathofmrswestaway #thewomanincabin10 #thriller #thrillerbooks #gothichorror #familydrama #bookswapwednesday #bookborrowing #bookswap #bookstagram

My depression has been depressing so I’ve been avoiding posting because it all feels like too much work. Although I am not a million reviews behind lol. One thing I’ve been good at this year is utilizing the library and its services (hoopla, Libby etc). For the first 3 months of the year, I saved almost $500! I can’t wait to see how much I saved by the end of the year. QOTD: which methods of reading do you use to read (ku, Libby, hoopla, library, just physical books you own, lfl, etc etc etc

If He Had Been with Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A real YA winner, honestly. My students have recommended this book to me multiple times, and now I understand why. It really has so many things that I'm sure 14-19ish year old girls relate to. There were a few clichés - but I'm sure they're clichés teenage girls just eat up. I finished it during DEAR - drop everything and read! What a national holiday😍 our school library let kids who had checked out a significant amount of books from the library this year spend the afternoon reading in the library. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Okay, y'all, I finally did it. I listened to an audiobook. I picked this particular book for a few reasons. One, it's been on my TBR forever. Two, it was short - just over 5 hours. My experience with audiobooks is mixed. I didn't hate it, but I still don't prefer it. But overall, these are my thoughts: ▫️zoning in and out. Sometimes, I'd zone out and get a little lost, and it's harder to go back and reread with an audiobook ▫️commute time. I don't have a super long commute to work, about 15 minutes one way, so I felt like I was listening in clips, and it didn't always make sense to stop where I was. If I had a longer drive, maybe I'd like it more. ▫️genre of the book. Maybe it's just because it was a "self-help" book, but I just wasn't into the story itself. The narration was okay. The author read it, but I just didn't feel transported to a different place. Overall, the book was fine. Some of the advice the guy offered was definitely relatable - essentially, you have to choose what you give your energy to. Some things are worth your time and energy, and others aren't. If you like self-help, give it a try! I might go back for another audiobook eventually, but for now, I'm sticking to my Kindle/paperbacks😊 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #libby #audiobook

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️ I've been waiting to read this book for a long time - I loved parts of the story, particularly the long-standing relationship between Sadie and Sam. Their honest and real relationship was very "coming of age," and I did like how they always found their way back to each other. But I couldn't have cared less about the video game "stuff" and found myself skimming the parts that I felt drowned me in lingo I just didn't get🤷🏼‍♀️ Overall, I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it. #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #libby

March was full of discovering new authors and directors. With Women History Month in focus, all movies I watched in March were by women directors with females as leads or co-leads. Read four books in translation. Borrowed The Glass Menagerie from @moumi_15 and Days At Morasaki Bookshop from @rits_mikrokosmos <33 Also shopped at the Oxford Bookstore alone for the first time. Have you read/watched any of these? What were your highlights of the month?

Wretched ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Emily McIntyre is my Colleen Hoover. Are these the *best* books I've ever read? No. But they give me a nice break sometimes after reading something a little heavier. Hooked is still my favorite of the Never After series - this was deffff the spiciest, though. 🔥 I really like all the small nods to classic tales! This one was The Wizard of Oz. 🪄💚 You definitely don't have to know the classic inside and out to catch onto them, but they're fun twists on what we already know. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta #bookrecommendations #booklover #books #bookreview #bookshelf #bookish #booktok #book #tbr #bookstagramchallenges #kindle #kindleunlimited #bookborrowing

on being a responsible reader: With resistance movements happening around the world, it is high time that you choose consciously what and from where you are buying. So I've made a list of sustainable alternatives that you should spend your time, money and trust in. (see the slides>>>) Boycott Amazon (that includes online shopping, goodreads, audible, kindle). Use your existing devices (phones, tabs, laptops) to read ebooks—that way you also minimize e-waste. Use Storygraph instead of Goodreads. @coffee.and.tsundoku shared a reel on indie bookstores, do check that out! I personally prefer to buy in person, so it is already a bonus for me to look out for physical spaces wherever books are available. There is a joy in buying books in person that is irreplaceable, saying this as a homebody and introvert. Bookfairs and local bookstores used to be my go to places since childhood for book buying, so the idea of buying books online doesn’t appeal to me at all. These past few years have been particularly incredible getting acquainted with secondhand books. If you are already doing all these, spread the love and joy with friends and family for local bookstores, libraries and thrifted books. I hope instead of seeing reels on amazon book hauls, I'll get to see reels on hauls from bookfairs or of secondhand books. Instead of hoarding, visit libraries who already are hoarding books for you. The first step is changing perspective, find what combination of these alternatives work for you. Happy safe and sustainable reading! - #bithikahalder

The Frozen River ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wheeeeew..I had a lot going on, so this book took me a little longer to get through, but that's nothing on the book itself. I really liked it! My biggest problem was honestly that so many of the characters had similar ish names that I had to keep straight. The first half spent a lot of time laying out the dynamics of the town, but the second half was so quick and I think I read the last 40% in 2 days. The end was 😲😲😲!!! I read this for a book club at work! Super excited to talk to my coworkers about their thoughts! Side note: BLUE sky and GREEN grass! ♥️ What was the last book you recommended to a friend? I just lent a friend my copy of Good Material by Dolly Alderton and I’m hoping she likes it! ✨ I honestly get nervous lending people books sometimes because I feel personally responsible if they don’t like them 🙈 I also have been burned before and had someone not return a book I lent them. Do you feel comfortable lending your books out or prefer to keep them safe with you and just recommend them? (I’ve been both!) ✨🫣

The Only One Left ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow, I am obsessed with this book. It was a total hit in all categories. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I literally read it in like 2 days bc I needed to figure it out!!! The family massacre angle, similar to Lizzy Borden, was so well done, with some seriously twisty twists. Honestly, chef's kiss🤌🏻 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #libby #rileysager

✨BOOK BORROW BARROW✨ As Outdoor lead this has been on my to do list for a very long time but finally got round to finishing our school Book Borrow Barrow today 📚 ✨ The purpose of the Borrow Barrow is for the senior playground to have access to books during break time. As long as they take care of the book and return at the end of the break they are welcome to enjoy reading anywhere within the playground 🙂 The Outdoor Committee made of P6 pupils will be responsible for ensuring the wheelbarrow is brought out and put away and will also help keep it organised. There are a range of fiction, non-fiction texts and picture books available so hopefully there is something for everyone. Major shoutout to the pupils and staff who have donated all sorts of texts for the Borrow Barrow - all of the books included have been kindly donated 🥰 In fact this was an extremely low cost project! We were lucky enough to have the wheelbarrow gifted to us by our local @harbrocountrystores and all that was needed to decorate were some acrylic paint pens which were about £8 on Amazon. These are waterproof so won’t wipe off even being outside 🙌🏼 Looking forward to introducing the Book Borrow Barrow to the children tomorrow 📚 nothing better than encouraging the next generation to find a love for reading ✨ — — #bookborrowbarrow #bookwheelbarrow #bookborrowing #outdoorlibrary #outdoorschoollibrary #classlibrary #outdoorlearning #readingforenjoyment #readingforpleasure #teacherinstagram #teacherinsta #teaching #scottishteacher #ukteachers #britishteachers #scottishteachers #scottishprimaryteacher

Wrong Place, Wrong Time ⭐️⭐️ The end was sweet and tied it all up nicely, but the middle felt like it was 100 pages too long.. Idk I saw a reel that gave book recs with a simple "yes" or "no" - and this one's a no for me.🤷🏼‍♀️ #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited #libby

The Nightingale 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I finished this like a week or so ago and it sent me spiraling right into a book hangover 😅 It.was.so.good. 😭💘 I cried, I related, I learned. Really, so much of everything you could want in a book. I can't even put it into words, other than to say if you're like me and late to the bandwagon, hop on bc it's worth it 💯 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited

Ive never listened to an audiobook before but ive been driving to school listening to the radio and decided to listen to an audiobook instead. 🔈📖 My friend let me borrow Delilah Green Doesn’t Care and I started reading it and then stopped a few pages in but I’m finding the audiobook so much more enjoyable for me. Only thing is service is spotty sometimes and my Spotify shuffles playlists when I connect Bluetooth to my car so next time I need to make sure the correct chapters are queued up because it went from chapter 4 to chapter 30💀 #audiobook #books #bookstagram #reading #reader #lgbtromance #delilahgreendoesntcare #ashleyherringblake #romance #booklover #audiobooks #bookborrowing

The last book I... [BOOK CHALLENGE] 🩷The last book I purchased : Puntitos de mariposas by Mileysha Sánchez. Sneak peek : " I suppose that I forgive because I love you... or because I love myself? This verse from her poem was so reflective. I enjoyed it! ( it is on spanish) 🩷 The last books as gifts : Love & Other Words + Practice Makes Perfect. This was gifted by Brittany! 🩷 The last book I gave 5 stars : The Plight before Christmas by Kate Stewart. It was such a great read and the reason their romance did not work out was so valid. I feel so comfortable reading it. This is a 18+ read, it is a slow burn spicy romance. 🩷The last book I borrowed: Probably by seeing the picture, you all were thinking, where is the first book of Divergent? That was the one I borrowed 🤣 I have not been able to buy it yet. I am even considering re-read it again, a book pal mentioned that it felt like Fourth Wing type of vibes. So, I loved that series, I am liking Fourth Wing so far. @getlitreaders 🩷The last book I finished: A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. This was such a great mystery crime book. I rated 4.5 stars. It has a clean romance between the main characters. 🩷 The last book I started: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. It is most likely that I will start Practice Makes Perfect for me time in a cute cafe this weekend. [QOTD] I am curious. 🩷 What was the last book you all could borrow?💬 I have not seeing many post related to this🥺 This was a cute challenge! Thank you so much to @anotherlittlebookshelf for tagging me 💕 I have tagged someone who might like to join, no rush! If you all want to join, consider yourself tagged. Ask for Andrea ⭐️⭐️ I really loved the premise of this story! Howeverrrr, the first 50-60% - I just wasn't into it. Honestly, it was almost a DNF. I just couldn't get hooked. Once the girls "met" each other, though, I was into it! 👻 I wish they had found each other sooner and maybe explored the truths behind their stories together. Really, my favorite part of the story was April & her unwavering strength to save her girls. 💪🏻 I also liked the title tie in🤞🏻 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited

The Housemaid's Secret ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book #2 of 2024 is a 5⭐️ from me! Maybe I'm a little biased because I love Millie's character so much, but either way, it kept my interest until the very end. I love that Frieda McFadden's books are always making me question and reevaluate. Like you constantly think you have it figured out, then, NOPE. Even in the end, the epilogue had me reeling🤪 I needed a fast-paced thriller to ward off the winter (freezing cold) blues. It's been SO cold here the last few days & I am definitely not a snow/cold kinda gal so I'm over it🫣 Debating between two for my next read: Bright Young Women or Ask for Andrea 🔥🤍📖❄️ #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle #kindleunlimited #bookborrowing

Fourth Wing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Okay, hot take - not the best book I've ever read. Did I like it? Yeah. Did it live up to the hype? No. Love the enemies to lovers trope, for sure. I also really like the rebellion - honestly, I drew a lot of similarities to The Hunger Games🤷🏼‍♀️ not that it's a bad thing, just something I noticed. I will say I LOVED the ending. Enough that I'll definitely (eventually) read Iron Flame🔥 First book of 2024✔️ #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookhoarder #bookborrowing #bookish #booktok #books #book #booksta #tbr #booklover #kindle

Well, this book had me in my feels, I felt all the heartbreak and was also giggling and kicking my feet while feeling the butterflies of falling in love. I definitely shed at least two tears (one happy, one sad) which I rarely do currently. Let this speak for itself, shall we? This book was also so much fun! I love the dual POV - the male POV is flashbacks and therefore letting the reader feel the beginning (and end) of the relationship, while the female POV is current time with the forced proximity, how much she regrets leaving, and second chance pending... The spice isn’t much, but I’ll take quality over quantity and I personally loved the few scenes. Solid 5/5 ⭐️ ✨ swipe for some of my favourite quotes ✨ This book has: - grumpy x sunshine - very committing person x commitment issues - second chance romance - dual POV - dual timelines - forced proximity - emotional Song it reminds me of: Back to December - Taylor swift #bookborrower #bookborrowing #bookstagram #booktok #books #forgetmenot #juliesoto #bookreview #romancebooks #bookquotes #booklover #secondchanceromance
