My Workout: Step-by-Step Workout by Emoji Getting Up Early 🙄 Deadlift 😍 New Exercises 😡 Done 😇 I made it to the gym this morning. Getting up early is always hard, but this makes 2 days in a row during the work week, and that is progress for me. I like the comfort of familiar exerices, so the deadlifts felt particularly good (I like them anyway in a turn of events I never saw coming at my age). New exercises make me uncomfortable. I feel clumsy and uncoordinated in the gym, and I overthink everything. However, I have learned new things -- although it takes me a long time. I was particularly uncomfortable with these new functional strength exercises. But, I know they are good for my body and mind, and I am so glad that I worked through my discomfort. After more regular strength training, I am starting to feel stronger again from the inside out. Now, if I can get cardio in more regularly ... Plus, I need less sitting time. Sigh. It has been a great week, full of important and energizing learning and connections within my new job. Shadow Boxing Epic Struggles, Everyday Actions I got back to the gym last night for strength training. Since I still can't find my favorite red shirt, I wore an old shirt with a fitting message: Team iPlod. Since I am getting back into working out regularly, the iPlod message felt quite fitting. Find the Light A gorgeous, unseasonably, sunny November day here in the Midwest. Today, I am planning to soak in the light for a walk-run, even as the days are getting shorter. This is not typical November weather, and I will get out while I can. I am working on accepting the reality of early morning exercise again since I let too many good intentions go by later in the day. But, today will not be the day I start because the outdoors will be glorious if the predictions are right. As winter closes in, the time will come to accept that early morning reality. They were inspiring in every way, and their mental and physical strength motivates me to look forward to getting back to running regularly (even if I am slow and plodding)! I had planned to train for the Mankato Marathon that took place a few weeks ago, and I did okay for a couple of weeks. I thought that training would help me manage a busy fall. But, it didn't. I debated running/walking up till the last minute but just let the opportunity slip away. The sunshine was good for me, and today is going to be nice, too. I have to buckle down--although I am planning to make some time for exercise. I am looking forward to for a mid-week-weekend work trip where I will see friends, colleagues, mentors, and new acquaintances. Transition's omnipresence beckons me to write about it.
