Kristen Santos-Griswold has been competing at the World Cup in Germany – and taken more medals! The vegan speed skater started with helping the team to Silver in the 1500 metres Then she was part of the mixed team relay team who took Gold in the 2000 metres. She then joined the Women’s team for the 3000 metre to take bronze. Next she qualified for the 1500 m final, which she won to take Gold. Then another Gold in the 1000m final. With the women’s relay team she won 3000 metre Bronze. Kristen became one of only two US short track skaters to win Gold at all three individual distances in the World Cup. On top of the world Afterwards Kristen was able to reflect on her season where she finished second globally in the overall standings. She was ranked first in the 1000 metres and third in the 1500 metres, and helped the national team to 4th in both the women’s and mixed team relays. A further honour followed as the State of Sports awards named Kristen as Olympic Female Athlete of the Year. They said: “Our Olympic Female Athlete of the Year hasn’t missed a World Cup podium in 2 seasons. The four-distance national record holder collected 17 international medals in 2023—6 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze. Kristen Santos-Griswold is the first U.S. woman to win a 500m World Cup race and first U.S. skater to capture an individual Gold at ISU Short Track 4-Continents Championships.” Kristen has been vegan since 2018 after being raised vegetarian. She has never eaten meat. “I’ve always loved animals so much and don’t want to contribute to anything that could be harmful to them. It's almost a year since my hand surgery... And I'm going to have another one in a short period of time. Despite all the problems with my grip and the pain, in this past year, I was able to become strong as I've never been... And that is not magic .. Or shourt cuts .. But consistency . There will always be bumps on the road, but you can choose how to deal with it. You are in control. You are powerful . Anything you want can be achieved if you are willing to do the work and be consistent. And this can be applied in anything in life, yourself , your job, and relationships. Credit where credit it due 👏🏻 I have officially been eating the starch solution way for 8 years now. I truly feel like I found the best kept “secret” to a happy, healthy, trim, fit life. I’ve read all the books (multiple times :) went through the 12 day program, got my starch solution certificate, worked with their program coach for a year, started a meal prep/private chef company in San Diego that was meals based on the starch solution, and now I teach/coach this lifestyle for a living. Tu músculo es el encargado de determinar cuánta energía gastas por hora cuando no estás haciendo nada. . ☝🏽El músculo puede utilizar grasa como fuente de energía cuando estás en ayuno (mayor a 12 horas) y además la contracción muscular estimula hormonas como neurotrofina, aumenta la producción de neuronas nuevas, y las interleuquinas que son hormonas que nos protegen de la inflamación crónica de todos los tejidos. Vegan Daniel Austin had a fantastic powerlifting meet, breaking his already massive squat record. Last summer he set four records in the 75 kg (165.2 lbs) category for Masters 40-44. He’s just improved his squat record, taking it to 207.5 kg (457.4 lbs). He also holds the records for bench (135 kg or 297.6 lbs), deadlift (232.5 kg or 512.6 lbs) and total (572.5 kg or 1262.1 lb). Daniel has been vegan since age 22 in 2005 out of respect for animals and recognising the cruelty of animal agriculture. He qualified for the US Nationals for the first time in 2018. Since then he’s taken second at the IPL World Championships and won first place at the USPA Nationals in the submasters for three years running. “I’m proud of the records I set as a vegan lifter in a state that people commonly associate with stereotypes that are the antithesis of veganism” he says. “When I first started winning local meets in Texas, back around 2015-2016, fellow lifters and judges often cracked jokes about veganism – sometimes to my face, but mostly within earshot, but these days all I hear at meets is support, respect, and curiosity about how to be strong as a vegan. Wishing everyone competing in the first FMG Show of the year today the very best. 🖤 It's not lost on me that show day, which is usually a fun and exciting time and a reminder of one of the best days of my life, is now falling over the worst. Reflecting today and seeing all the competitors gearing up for stage is bitter-sweet. I love to see my fellow athletes getting ready to step on stage and show what they've worked so hard for, but today I feel just empty. I hope everyone just takes the time to enjoy every moment of show day, slow down on stage and remember that everything you've been working for and building is important in the long run, regardless of placings. Comp prep helps build many things. Among them, resilience, grit, determination, discipline and courage. These traits I do my best to embody every day, outside of comp prep but particularly now as I'm struggling to come to terms with everything life has thrown at Basil this last week. To keep it together in a time where you have every reason to fall apart is a strength that training and working towards stage truly helped me build. I can no longer make it to the show tonight, but I'll be cheering for you all. 🖤
