✨Book Review of You Can Trust Me✨ Review: ★★★★☆ 4/5 Making my way downtown (through my @netgalley backlog) walking fast, faces past, and I am homebound (32 books to go). I am mad at myself for sitting on this ARC for this long - I saw that this book had excellent reviews and some members of my book club really enjoyed this one. I picked it up this week and I am so very thankful that I did. I LOVE when thrillers have dual POVs and also when they make me root for morally gray characters. The two MCs met and became found family members and made a life stealing from people in different ways to survive. I was obsessed with how different their styles of thievery were and I have to say Leo’s type of theft seemed more fun than Summer’s but to each their own!! I did guess one of the twists fairly early on but this book was SO much fun to read. Immaculate vibes - highly recommend! YOU CAN TRUST ME has been such a journey. From inception, it’s been a study in multiverses; Summer, the main character, has almost featured in two other books, both I got ~30% through and realized this was not “it.” When I finally found her the right companion, their world felt almost too open. I had so many brainstorming sessions with my writing group, trying to figure out what this plot would look like. Summer has come close to dealing with earthquakes, cults, runaway teenagers, gas station robberies gone wrong, and so much more. She’s been through it! Out in paperback today, this finished version of one of Summer’s stories feels like the one that was always supposed to be. Grab a copy, go to the beach, and fantasize about outsmarting evil billionaires with your ride or die best friend. This was a fun, easy, unrealistic (hopefully) and quick read. At only 258 pages / 6 hours I read it in a day, by the pool! Mae’s hubbie and bff surprise her with a cruise - Mae isn’t excited and who can blame her; her brother drowned! So many red flags, especially when everyone kind of notices the tall, handsome stranger checking Mae out! The pace is fast, although I found part 2 dragged a little… I’d have liked a fist fight, maybe some dramatics on the ship The audiobook was narrated by 4 narrators, as we had 4 points of view and my favorite was husband Blake - maybe because I love Pete Cross, but I also loved Blake’s husbandly determination The mystery kept me gripped and I enjoyed the twists - I kinda guessed one but only close to the reveal - some reviewers didn’t like the twist - not sure why - it was diabolically delicious and in a thriller, not everyone can be nice - that’s why I love them! I’d say this is a great example of a Modglin book and makes a great vacation read or palette cleanser - just don’t take it too seriously (or read it on a cruise 😂 I’m hilarious) #QOTD have you cruised? This was a really fast paced and gripping thriller for me! The author really dials up the tension as the story unfolds. It really shows you a lot about who you can really trust, and just how quickly things can take a turn. The cruise ship setting really added to the tension factor too, being trapped at sea, in international waters and not knowing who to really turn to for help. I have gone on several cruises myself and it’s really scary to think about things going wrong. I also have a good friend who was assulted on a cruise ship and it was such a terrifying experience. I was definitely flipping pages til the end, and I totally did not see the twists coming at all! Definitely recommend if you want a quick thriller, I listened to it in a day! I was worried that it wasn’t going to pay off but once I got more into the book, the more I couldn’t wait to see what happens next and it definitely pays off in the end. I only give it 3.5 stars because it starts out slow but I definitely recommend reading it Summer and Leo would do anything for each other. Inspired by the way each has had to carve her place in a hostile and unforgiving world, and united by the call of the open road, they travel around sunny California in Summer’s tricked-out Land Cruiser. It’s not a glamorous life, but it gives them the freedom they crave from the painful pasts they’ve left behind. But even free spirits have bills to pay. Luckily, Summer is a skilled pickpocket, a small-time thief, and a con artist—and Leo, determined to pay her own way, has learned a trick or two. Eager for a big score, Leo catches in her crosshairs Michael Forrester, a self-made billionaire and philanthropist. You Can Trust Me is based on two free spirits, Summer and Leo, bonded together to survive in the tough world they live in. Both are swindlers, always looking for their next score, whether it be a rich man to entice back to a hotel room or pickpocketing at a black tie event. Leo scores a billionaire and an invite to his private island. This should be a huge score of photos to sell to the paparazzi and high value items to steal. Instead, Summer realizes her friend has vanished as Leo doesn’t return back to her nor does she communicate again. Summer will have to find her own ticket to the small island and try to find her friend as they’re now both wrapped up in the scheme they created.
