Nutrition is as individual as the people themselves. Can I lose weight at all? My entire family is overweight. Again, this is a regularly asked question. The fact is, nutrition is largely education and being overweight in childhood is harder to get to grips with in old age. I say harder, but not impossible. But it is also a fact that there is no such thing as THE ONE PERFECT DIET. Nutrition is as individual as the person himself. So take a look at it and feel free to get in touch. We will find a solution. Trying to make some healthy swaps? Instead of fruit juice, try fruit infused water! Fruit juices can be very high in sugar and calories. If consumed in excess, this may lead to unwanted weight gain. There is also minimal fiber in juice compared to whole fruits. This makes juice very quick to be absorbed, which in turn causes blood sugar levels to spike. Though a small amount of juice can be part of a healthy diet, aim to stay hydrated with water. Try out a fruit infused water for added flavor! If you’re looking to start living a healthier lifestyle, our registered dietitians are here to help! Contact us today to learn more! 📞(844) 688-7499 📧[email protected] *We accept all major insurance plans #HealthySwaps #Health #Wellness #HealthyLifestyle #HealthyFood #HealthAndWellness #WeightLoss #RegisteredDietitian #RD #RD2Be #RDChat #Dietitian #DietitianTips #NutritionTips #HealthTips #NutritionFacts #NutritionAdvice #NutritionMyth #BramptonHealth #BramptonLife #BramptonBusiness #Toronto #GTA #TorontoHealth #TorontoRD #TorontoDietitian

Hey Nutricomms Fam! Nutrition Myth Monday here, tackling myths about nutrition and promoting accurate information. 🌟 Myth Busted: Magic Foods for Weight Loss 🌟 🍎 Ever heard of magical foods that melt away pounds? Think again! While certain foods may support weight loss when part of a balanced diet, there's no magic bullet for shedding pounds. Let's bust some myths: 1️⃣ "Fat-Burning Foods": Nope, no food directly burns fat! Instead, focus on whole, nutrient-dense options like veggies, fruits, lean proteins, and healthy fats to support a healthy metabolism. 2️⃣ "Calorie-Free Treats": Sorry, but "calorie-free" snacks are a myth. Even low-calorie foods add up if you're not mindful of portions. Moderation is key! 3️⃣ "Detox Teas & Cleanses": Your body has its own built-in detox system (hello, liver and kidneys!). Skip the pricey teas and focus on hydrating with water and eating plenty of fiber-rich foods. Remember, sustainable weight loss comes from balanced eating, portion control, and regular physical activity. No magic required! ✨ #MythBusted #HealthyLiving #nutricommsofficial #nutricomms_official #nutricomms #nutritionmythmonday #nutritionmyth #nutritionmyths #nutritionmythbuster #nutritionmythbusted

Honestly this question depends on the documentary. It is important when watching these documentaries to remember that documentaries are created to form a story. In order to form this story the documentaries often have particular objectives and beliefs. These objectives and beliefs can shield them from sharing certain things. Documentaries often have one viewpoint; therefore, some things in them are true, but some things in them aren’t true. Keep this in mind, and be aware. #nutritiondocumentaries #nutritiondoc #nutritionmovie #nutritionmovies #nutritionmyths #nutritionmyth #nutritionmythsbusted #nutritionmythbusting

Protein is of course an important part of the diet and it is good to pay attention to its intake. However, it is not the only part of the diet that is important to pay attention to. Gluten is a mixture of proteins and unless you suffer from celiac disease, wheat allergy or gluten sensitivity, it is absolutely unnecessary to avoid foods containing gluten. Even milk and dairy products are an important source of protein and other positive substances that are unnecessary to exclude, unless you are allergic to cow's milk protein or lactose intolerant. #nutritionmyths #nutritionmyth #nutritionmythsbusted #nutrition #nutritionist #londonnutritionist #nutritionistlondon #nutritionadvisor #nutritioncoach #nutritionfirst #nutritiongoals #nutritionadvice #nutritiontips #healthgoals #loseweight #howtoloseweight #weightloss #healthylifestyle #lifestyle #healthy #protein #proteins #glutenfree #dairy #lactoseintolerant #eatingwell #eathealthy #instahealth #instafood #healthydiet

A common question dietitians get is ‘Should I try the keto diet for weight loss?’🥑🥩 First off, what is the keto diet exactly? The keto diet is characterized by a high intake of fats, a moderate amount of protein, and a very low intake of carbohydrates, forcing the body into a state of ketosis where it burns fat for fuel. Some individuals may experience initial weight loss due to water loss and reduced calorie intake, but research has shown that many people do not find long term success. The bottom line, the keto diet is NOT a sustainable way to lose weight. Instead, aim for a balanced approach. Always consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian before embarking on any significant dietary changes. And if you need help getting started on your weight loss journey, our dietitians are here to help! Contact us today to learn more! 📞(844) 688-7499 📧[email protected] *We accept all major insurance plans #Keto #KetoDiet #Health #Wellness #HealthyLifestyle #HealthyFood #HealthAndWellness #DrinkUp #watertok #WeightLoss #RegisteredDietitian #RD #RD2Be #RDChat #Dietitian #DietitianTips #NutritionTips #HealthTips #NutritionFacts #NutritionAdvice #NutritionMyth #BramptonHealth #BramptonLife #BramptonBusiness #Toronto #GTA #TorontoHealth #TorontoRD #TorontoDietitian

I shouldn't be surprised by these trends, but somehow I still am. So let's talk about why as a dietitian, I'm not a raw milk advocate🤦🏼‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Raw milk is one of the few foods that's made illegal in Canada and many US states. And that's for GOOD reason. Sure, you might have tried raw milk before at a farm and felt fine. But doesn't mean we should be recommending it to everyone (or at all).⁣ ⁣ Today's video is debunking all the claims on raw milk. Grab a glass of (pasteurized or plant-based) milk and tune in at my b10🥛🐄

Fat is often criticized despite being a necessary nutrient in our diets. But the truth is, our bodies need it! It gives us energy, keeps our cells working, protects our organs, and even helps us stay warm. Plus, it helps absorb important nutrients and makes hormones. Let’s discuss the different types of dietary fats: Saturated fats (or “unhealthy fats”) tend to be solid at room temperature. They are mainly found in animal products (meat and dairy) and processed foods. Aim to limit foods in high saturated fats as these can increase your LDL (bad) cholesterol. Unsaturated (or “healthy fats”) tend to be liquid at room temperature. They are mainly found in plant sources (vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, avocado) and fish. Aim to increase your intake of these fats as they are beneficial for your HDL (good) cholesterol levels! Contact us today to find out how the Registered Dietitians at Nutritionwize Diet Clinic can help you live a healthier lifestyle! 📞(844) 688-7499 📧[email protected] *We accept all major insurance plans #DietaryFat #SaturatedFat #UnsaturatedFat #Health #Wellness #HealthyLifestyle #HealthyFood #HealthAndWellness #HealthyEating #WeightLoss #RegisteredDietitian #RD #Dietitian #DietitianTips #NutritionTips #HealthTips #NutritionFacts #NutritionAdvice #NutritionMyth #BramptonHealth #BramptonLife #BramptonBusiness

In contrast, for long-term sustainable and effective weight loss, it is necessary to set an adequate reduction in energy intake, not drastic in the form of starvation. Hey Nutricomms Fam! Nutrition Myth Monday here once again! 🥑🫚🫐🌶🍈🍵 One very common nutrition myth is 🥑🫚🫐"Superfoods" provide exceptional health benefits! Labelling foods as "superfoods" can lead to exaggerated health claims and unrealistic expectations, though they may be rich in nutrients.🌶🍈🍵 Here are some facts to consider🧐: 1. No single food can provide all the nutrients your body needs: While some foods are highly nutritious, a balanced diet is essential for overall health. Relying solely on a few supposed superfoods can lead to nutritional deficiencies. 2. Variety is key: Instead of focusing solely on specific superfoods, aim for a diverse diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Different foods offer different nutrients, so incorporating a variety ensures you get all the essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs. 3. The term "superfood" is not regulated: Unlike terms like "organic" there are no strict criteria or regulations defining what qualifies as a superfood. Marketers often use the term to boost sales, leading to confusion among consumers. 4. Nutrient density matters: While some superfoods are indeed packed with nutrients, it's essential to consider nutrient density rather than just focusing on a few trendy items. Nutrient density refers to the concentration of nutrients per calorie. Many common fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds offer excellent nutrient density without the hype. 💡 Takeaway: While certain foods are undoubtedly nutritious and beneficial for health, it's essential to approach the concept of superfoods with a critical eye and prioritize a balanced diet rich in a variety of whole foods. Spread the word to debunk this myth! 💬 #mythbusted #superfoods #superfoodsgr #nutricomms #nutricommsofficial #nutricomms_official #nutritionmyths #nutritionmyth #nutritionmythbuster #nutritionmythmonday #facts💯 #facts #nutritionfacts #nutritionfact

IT'S NOT THE BREAD STOPPING YOU FROM LOSING FAT! I just got off the phone with a friend who has been struggling with his weight. He doesn’t know what he’s doing wrong. He knows his usual porridge is a good meal for breakfast but heard someone else who’s in good shape eats eggs and toast instead. He’s curious to try it, but he’s also heard that bread is bad for losing fat… so he’s thinking about just having eggs and skipping the toast. Sound familiar? When everyone and their dog has an opinion on nutrition, it makes it incredibly confusing to know what to do. But nutrition for fat loss is actually very simple – when you know the principles of it. So let me tell you something… It’s not the bread. Or the potatoes… Or the pasta… Or even ice cream! There isn’t a single food that makes you fat or stops you from losing fat. It’s how much you eat, that determines whether you lose or gain fat. So go on… enjoy the damn bread. Have that toast with your eggs. Hell, be brazen and have a sandwich for lunch! It’s not going to do you any harm. In fact, bread is an awesome choice for fat loss! It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s convenient, it’s relatively low-calorie, it’s high in fiber, you can bring it anywhere, and it tastes great. What you really need to be conscious of is how much you’re eating. But until you know how much is enough, you’re not going to get anywhere 🤷‍♂️ So, if you’re ready to finally remove the confusion around fat loss and learn how to drop 5-10 lb in 28 days without giving up your favourite foods or social life, then secure your spot for our May intake! … Or you can keep blaming the bread, avoiding your favourite foods, getting frustrated, finding the next fad, and never get into your dream shape. Think an app can replace a dietitian? 🤔 Think again! While apps like Yummi are great for meal planning, they can't match the personalized care of a professional. Nutritionists and dietitians have years of training to understand how health conditions, meds, and lifestyle affect your diet. They're also there to offer emotional support and motivation for lasting change. Remember, an app can't interpret lab results or adjust your diet based on health changes - that's a dietitian's job! #NutritionMyth #DietitianVsApp #Healthcare #PersonalizedCare #HealthyLiving #MealPlanning 🥗🍎🏥

🙋🏽‍♂️ FOLKS! Just popping on here to bust some common nutrition misconceptions that are NOT necessarily the same or mutually exclusive. 🥛 Lactose-Free ≠ Dairy-Free - Lactose intolerance means the inability to appropriately digest/process the lactose sugar found in milk/dairy products - Therefore this can cause digestive issues (i.e. gas, bloating, diarrhea, cramps, etc.) - NOT the same as an allergy - Dairy-free is essentially a product that doesn’t contain any animal milk (i.e. cow’s, sheep’s, or goat’s milks) - Someone who is dairy-free may be allergic to dairy or animal milk proteins and this will cause an IMMUNE response 🧈 Fat-Free ≠ Healthier - Just because a food product says it’s “fat-free” doesn’t always mean it’s completely free from ALL fat - In Canada, it simply means the food product has less than 0.5 grams of fat PER SERVING - Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a “healthier” choice for you 🚫🪳 Organic ≠ Safer - Definitely a hot topic—organic foods are absolutely not safer/more nutritious for you than conventionally grown foods. Full stop. And I will DIE on that hill! - Check out this video by my friend @erin.macgregor who partnered with #CropLifeCanada and expertly explains why this is the case (https://croplife.ca/blog/lets-talk-organic-and-conventionally-grown-foods). 🌱 Vegan ≠ Plant-Based - Veganism is a dietary pattern that consists of ONLY eating foods made from plants - Absolutely NO intake of animal-based products - Whereas plant-based eating tends to focus more on incorporating more plant foods into the overall diet - But this DOESN’T mean that there is NO consumption of animal-based products 🥖 Low-Carb ≠ Weight Loss - I’ve said it 85 billion times and I’ll say it again…CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY! - Carbohydrate containing foods (solely) do NOT cause weight gain. Do you know what can cause weight gain? - Calorie surplus. Genetics. Stress. Lack of physical activity. Improper nutrition. And many many other factors! - Carbohydrates are our body’s main source of energy and fuel (our brains/muscles absolutely require carbs to function/survive) - Let’s hop off this “carbs are bad for you” train PLEASE 🫠 Any surprises? Let me know ⬇️

Could multivitamins lead your health astray? While the nutritional boost once seemed like a no-brainer, multivitamins have been at the center of controversy over the years, leaving many people questioning their health value. Our dietitians break down the buzz! 👇 What does the science say? In most cases, vitamins appear to have a neutral effect. One study shows no increase or decrease in risk of death from cancer or cardiovascular disease among people who took multivitamins. There have even been cases where vitamin and mineral supplements proved to be more harmful than helpful, such as beta-carotene supplementation actually increasing lung cancer risks in men who smoke! And some vitamins may also interfere with certain medications and medical treatments. Key takeaways: 💸 A daily vitamin is not harmful as long as doses are within the recommended range, but they don't provide much benefit. 🥕 Most people can get everything they need from food by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean and/or plant-based proteins, along with some healthy fats. 👩‍⚕️ Always consult with a physician before starting a new supplement. #TheBuzz #VitaminFacts #NutritionMyth #DietitianAdvice #SupplementSafety #EatRealFood

🧐 Do you tend to opt for low-fat products? High time to dispel a myth! Fat is still considered bad for your health and shape. Yet the exact opposite is true! Fats provide twice as many calories as carbohydrates and proteins. But they not only provide energy, they also ensure important processes in the body! Yet, not all fat is the same. We categorize them into… 1️⃣ Saturated fatty acids in animal products and exotic oils (e.g. coconut) 2️⃣ Monounsaturated fatty acids present in olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocados 3️⃣ Polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially the essential omega-3 (e.g. walnut/linseed oil, green vegetables, sea fish) and omega-6 fatty acids (e.g. sunflower oil) Dietary guidelines recommend 1g of fat per kg (2.2g/lb) body weight per day. The right balance is important: ⅓ of each type of fat is recommended. The ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 should be 1:1. ‼️ Note: Lower-fat products often compensate with increased sugar, salt, and other additives to preserve taste and texture. This doesn't make them a healthier alternative (and they might not even be lower in calories); quite the opposite. 💡 Here are a few tips: 👉🏼 Focus on essential fats, especially omega-3 👉🏼 Choose natural foods in good (organic) quality 👉🏼 Avoid highly processed foods with trans fats (e.g. margarine, fried foods) 👉🏼 Keep the balance (e.g. if you eat carbs, moderate your fat intake) So, don't shy away from incorporating fats into your diet! In reality, embracing them is the key to unlocking stored fat 🤗 #bodyfast #intermittentfasting #we❤️fasting #nodiet #wellbeing #healthyliving #momlife #momblogger #fitfam #mythbusting #keto #lowcarb #highfat #fastingtips #nutritionmyth

Myth or fact: Eggs are bad for your cholesterol For many years, it was believed that eggs were bad for your cholesterol levels and heart health because they contain some dietary cholesterol. BUT research suggests that this link is weak, and that the rise in cholesterol can be explained by the foods consumed WITH the eggs (e.g. bacon, butter, cheese) In fact, what plays a big role in your body’s cholesterol levels are foods high in saturated & trans-fats rather than dietary cholesterol. Some studies even show that eating eggs can have a beneficial effect on heart health as it led to higher levels of HDL (good cholesterol), which is protective against LDL (bad cholesterol). As it is still a topic of debate, more studies are still needed. However, it is safe to say that having 1-2 eggs per day is acceptable. To help keep your cholesterol levels down, limit your intake of saturated and trans fats. If you’re looking for some guidance with your nutrition, our team of registered dietitians is here to help! Contact us today to learn more! #Eggs #Nutrition #Nutritionmyth #Nutritionfact #HealthyDiet #HealthAndWellness #NutritionwizeDietClinic #RegisteredDietitian #RD #DietitiansofInstagram #DietitianApproved #NutritionTips #HealthyEating #HealthAndWellness #RDChat #Dietitian #Brampton #Mississauga

🛑 STOP SCROLLING 🛑 Soooo I know everyone knows they SHOULD eat more fruit and veggies. Every dietitian PREACHES it! But sometimes it’s kinda difficult to get those servings in each day…I get it (I struggle with it too). Fruit and veggies are not everyone’s FAVOURITE foods and if you’re not used to preparing them regularly, it can be challenging to include them in your diet. 🍏🍇🍊🍎🍐🍋🍌🍉🍓🥭🍑🍒🫐🍍🥝🍅🍆🥒🥬🥦🥑🫛🫑🌽🥕 Below are 5 EASY tips you can try to increase your fruit/vegetable intake. It doesn’t need to be complicated. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Just K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) 🤓 Let me know…what are some of your favourite ways to eat more fruit/vegetables? Comment below ⬇️ 1. Roast ‘em ♨️ - Some veggies taste way better when you roast them in the oven (or air fryer…my personal favourite 😋) - This method takes VERY minimal time and effort - That caramelized, sweet, and slightly smokey flavour will keep you wanting more! 2. Prep ‘em 🔪 - Wash, chop, and place your fruit and veggies in see-through containers - Make them visible and easily accessible in the fridge so that all you have to do is “grab’n’go” 3. Dress ‘em 🥫 - I don’t know how many times I’ve said this but MAKE THEM TASTE GOOD - Add a dip, some sauce, or simply add BUTTER to help boost the flavour (for example: a cheese sauce for broccoli, a Greek yogurt dip for apples, adding butter to carrots and peas) - Add your own little flare to make them more enticing and delicious to eat 4. Add to meals 🥗 - So many different ways to add veggies/fruit to your meals - Either as a side dish or a balanced snack - Some ideas: a side mixed greens salad, baby carrots/grapes on the side with a sandwich, celery/zucchini/tomatoes/green beans to a soup 5. Try frozen 🧊 - A very easy and low cost option to increase your fruit /veg intake - Buying frozen does not reduce the nutritional quality of the food (contrary to popular belief) - Add to smoothies, soups, stews, stir-fries, and MORE!

Key takeaways: 💸 A daily vitamin is not harmful as long as doses are within the recommended range, but they don’t provide much benefit.

Nutrition Myth #3: Eggs cause high cholesterol. I actually hear this quite often but it is definitely not true. In a healthy organism the body adapts production of body owned cholesterol according to the cholesterol eaten. And Cholesterol is a very important player in human fat absorbtion. 🖐️ nutrition myths debunked SHARE the one you wish more people knew about! Actionable tips for each one: 1️⃣ Incorporate whole carbs like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains into your diet for their nutritional value and the feeling of fullness they provide. These are packed with essential nutrients and fiber, supporting overall health and weight management. 2️⃣ Opt for sources of healthy fats found in avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. These fats are crucial for supporting cell function, hormone production, and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, contributing to a balanced and nutritious diet. 3️⃣ Balance your protein intake with a mix of plant and animal sources. Whether you’re aiming for muscle repair, satiety, or weight management, diverse protein sources can provide a range of nutrients beneficial to your health. 4️⃣ Listen to your body’s hunger cues and find a meal pattern that suits your lifestyle. Whether it’s three main meals or several smaller ones, what matters most is that you’re meeting your nutritional needs in a way that feels right for you. 5️⃣ If you choose to avoid gluten, prioritize naturally gluten-free grains like quinoa and brown rice, and focus on a balanced diet. Whether or not you have gluten sensitivity, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats is key to good health. Want healthy ideas for each macro (Protein, Fat, and Carbs)? Never have I ever… encountered a “damaged” metabolism 🫣 What I have encountered (quite often, actually) is individuals who: - Could really benefit from establishing greater diet awareness at maintenance/in a slight surplus prior to pursuing a caloric deficit. - Have never given themselves the opportunity/permission to consistently eat at a higher calorie intake while pursuing goals other than fat loss (performance-related, professional, health-related, etc). - Are certain that they’re eating in a deficit while disregarding their weekend “episodes” wherein hundreds of excess calories are consumed (thereby pushing them out of a net deficit). - Have reached a weight loss plateau, of sorts, where calories are too low to reasonably reduce them further (for the sake of their sanity, performance, adherence, etc.) If you ever find yourself in a position where you feel as though your metabolism is broken… Do you maybe just need a break? Time to reassess/reevaluate? The deficit you’re yearning for will always be there when you’re ready for it. Your metabolism adapts because self-preservation is its priority (not fat loss, necessarily). And as a reminder - your body is never the enemy. #nutrition #nutritionscience #nutritionmyth #mythbusting #evidencebasednutrition #metabolism #damagedmetabolism #adaptation #fatloss #caloriedeficit #evidencebasedfitness #nutritioncoach

Especially with toast or readily packaged bread many people step into the trap and think they use the healthier option. Unfortunatley the pure colour does not indicate the nutritional healthy. Check for whole grains, seeds etc. inside the bread and not just outside. Check it out and let me know if you have questions.
