Simon Kernick is one of my favourite ever authors, although this is the first book of his I have read in ages and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Lots of twists and turns throughout, with quite a complex storyline (although don't confuse this with complex meaning confusing - more than anything it proved how clever the author was as everything was thought about) Great read, that has more than shown that the author definitely still has it. #simonkernick #dasultimatum Simon Kernick ist so ein Autor, bei dem ich mich als Verpackungsopfer oute. Die Bücher sind optisch sehr ansprechend und so bin ich auf ihn aufmerksam geworden. Nach einigen eher kürzeren Romanen habe ich nun das 500-Seiten-Werk „Das Ultimatum“ gelesen. In London explodieren mehrere Bomben, es werden Geiseln genommen und ein Luxushotel gestürmt. Die Terroristen fordern, ihre Bedingungen zu erfüllen, sonst wird sehr schnell der erste Unschuldige sterben. Ein recht großer Plot, der dem Leser von Anfang an geboten wird. Eine sehr große Geschichte, die Kernick erzählt. Und dies gelingt ihm nahezu perfekt: kurze, spannende Kapitel, teils brutale und blutige Szenen und immer wieder überraschende Wendungen in der rasant erzählten Handlung. Der Autor steht in den Topsellerlisten und in der Anerkennung von Thrillerfans zurecht da, wo er steht. Eigentlich kenne ich kein wirklich schlechtes Buch von ihm. Einen kleinen Minuspunkt gibt es aber von mir, da das Buch für mich nicht die eine Hauptfigur hat. Die Kapitel werden immer wieder aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven erzählt und es gibt zwar immer wieder Personen, die eine deutlich wichtigere Rolle einnehmen, mir fehlt aber die eine Person, an die ich mich beim Lesen „klammern“ kann. Das hat mir auf den 500 Seiten leider gefehlt. 4/5

But it certainly won't be my last. As I was hooked from the very start, particularly when that final line of the prologue hit! And as the story unfolded and I learnt more about the detective at the heart of it I genuinely couldn't get enough. Then you add in everything else this story has to offer including the couple who believe they are involved in the perfect crime and a mother who as a barrister is about to defend a killer in order to protect her only child. And as the three stories interlink at breakneck speed. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't wait to see how and if they would come together. Desperately trying to work things out. But Mr Kernick was always three steps ahead of me and the whole story would just turn on its head. Which made it so compelling and thrilling to read and it's why I would genuinely recommend this story to all. I'm now off to check out Simon's other books. 📕📕BOOK REVIEW 📕📕 The First 48 Hours By Simon Kernick Published by Headline on 9th November Wow! One of the best crime thrillers books I have read for a while. Three stories told from multiple POV’s and just 48 hours for Becca Barraclough, a defence Barrister, to save her child. DI Keith Fisher is in charge of the National Crime Agency’s Anti Kidnap & Extortion Unit in London and is investigating kidnapping by a group called the Vanishers. But one case goes badly wrong and Fisher is demoted. However, Fisher is also the one running the team of kidnappers! I know when I pick up a novel by this author it’s going to be good and this is that…and much more. In fact it’s a brilliant book. Briefly, the demotion doesn’t bother Fisher as he has one last job to complete before he retires to the beach in Thailand. We follow Fisher as he tries to keep his police colleagues from discovering who the Vanishers are, where the kidnapped daughter is and of course his Jekyll and Hyde life. Full of great twists and turns this fast paced read keeps the suspense at high octane levels throughout. Wonderful if unlikeable characters in the two main protagonists. Fisher is quite a charismatic character, even humorous at times, but completely self serving. Becca deals with the dregs of society but you can’t help feel a bit sorry for her in this situation. Ara ara kitapta Andrea'yı tanımamanın ve kestirememenin anlamsızlığı oldu. Bolt'un vakaya soğukkanlı yaklaşırken sonra kişiselleştirmesi, kendisine zor şeyler yaşatsa da, onun kişiselleştirmesi sayesinde de olaylar bu şekilde çözüme kavuşabildi. Bu benim düşüncem. Tina Boyd, Mike Bolt ve gizli bir polis olacakları engellemeye çalışıyorlar. Kitabı okurken polisiye-aksiyon filmi izliyor gibi hissettim. Çok hızlı gelişen olaylar merak duygusunu hep canlı tuttu. Happy Bank Holiday Weekend! Back in 2020, due to covid, it felt like we hadn't left the house properly in such a long time when I stumbled across the Bournemouth Beach Lodges online. It was coming up to August Bank Holiday weekend, and they were all booked out. I phoned and asked if they could pleeeease let me know if a cancellation came up, unlikely they said but ok! We were elated when we received a call a couple of days later to say a lodge was now available! We will always be grateful to their team for their amazing customer service that year - for keeping my number and for taking their covid cleaning seriously, it was spotless. Thank you @bournemouthbeachlodges 3 years on and it's still a special trip for us! The lodges are small but perfectly formed and to wake up with the beach in front of you is beautiful. We love Boscombe, the beach is waaay quieter than Bournemouth beach (shhh don't tell anyone 🤫) which is a 20min walk away. To sit with my coffee and a book watching the beach being cleaned was the perfect start to my day - Siege by Simon Kernick is not my usual type of book but I was hooked! Arada oluyor böyle kitaplarla dağıldığımız. 🫠 Müthiş bir baş ağrısı çekmesem biraz daha okuyacaktım fakat şöyle bir dinlenme molası veriyorum kendime. Bu kitabı okuyup okumadığımı hatırlamıyorum cidden, biraz okuyunca anımsarım sanırım okuduysam. Çoğu okuyup öneririm dediğim kitabı burada paylaşmamışım onu fark ettim. Ara ara ekleyeceğim inşaallah. Kült eserler zaten her zaman önerim. Hatta bazılarını yeniden okumak niyetindeyim. Çünkü bazı eserler var ki her okuduğunuzda farklı anlamlar çekip çıkarıyor insan içinden. Bununla ilgili konuyu çok uzatabilirim aslında. Yalnız bir önceki öneriler ile ilgili kısmına döneceğim konunun. Çoğu öneri kitapla ilgili paylaşımımda fazla konusuna dokunmamaya özen gösteriyorum bahsederken. Özellikle yeni çıkmış kitaplarda. O kadar harika detaylar var ki eklenecek aslında lakin okumamış olanlara haksızlık olur bahsetmek. Ben her kitabın büyüsünü içinde bırakacak şekilde etrafından dolaşarak konusunu, sizlere öneriyorum okumanız gerektiğini düşündüğüm ve severek okuduğum kitapları. Tabii burada bir önemli nokta var o da beğenilerin kişilere göre değiştiği. Burada esas olan önerilen kitapların sevdiğiniz türde olup olmaması sanırım dikkate almanız gereken. Ben ne olsa okurum mesela. Çok severek okuduğum türlerde var tabii. Yine de genel olarak ayırmam okurum. Ve çok nadirdir bir kitabı okumayı yarım bıraktığım. Sadece bir tane kitabı okuyamayıp bırakmıştım. O da konusu çok başka ve ilgime hitap edecek türde olmadığı içindi. 🏵️Herkese günaydınn mutlu sabahlar. 😍 Sonunda beni RS den kurtaran bir kitap okudum. Ültimatom gayet akıcı, heyecanı ve aksiyonu bir an olsun düşmeyen bir romandı. Yani tam benlik 😂 🏵️İlk başta çok fazla karakter var gibi geldi bana. Karakter isimlerini aklımda tutmaktan konuya nasıl odaklanacağımı düşündüm. Fakat sonra kitap sizi öyle bir içine çekiyor ki her karakterin kurgudaki yerini anlıyorsunuz. Asla boş diyebileceğim bir isim olmadı. Ayrıca kitaptaki olayların hepsi 12 saat içinde yaşanıyor. 🏵️Fox'un kurnazlığı, Jones'in cesareti, Cain'in acımasızlığı, Tina'nın delifişekliği, Bolt'un kontrolcü yaklaşımı derken hepsi birbirini tamamlamış. Özellikle Tina'nın bu delifişekliği başına çok dert açacak ufak bir spoi olsun😉 🏵️Londra'nın merkezinde sabah saat 08.00 de bir patlama gerçekleşiyor. Bir süre sonra bilinmeyen bir terör örgütü bu patlamayı üstlenir ve dedikleri yapılmazsa daha büyük bir patlama olacağına dair tehtitler savurur. ⭐️4/5 CW: terrorist attack This book is about a terrorist attack in a London hotel, in which a number of people are held hostage. Whilst it’s a a little slow to start, the pace does pick up to become a real page turner, rife with tension and plot twists. Not as strong as Relentless for me but still a good read!
