Thank you to @readforeverpub for the gifted copy of Just For The Summer. I absolutely loved it! I know we say this every year, but this is Abby’s best book yet. I don’t think she can top it. It’s a perfect book. No notes. JFTS has Abby’s signature wit (read: it’s LOL funny), relatable characters, and plot lines that pass the Bechdel test — as you’ve come to expect from her books. But this one is deeper - it has the heart of a Katherine Center novel and the angst of an Emily Henry book. It’s got everything I could think to ask for in a rom com and it’s executed flawlessly. Like I said, no notes. Now that I (and half of bookstagram) have convinced you to read it, here are my tips for getting the most out of your JFTS experience: 1. If you haven’t read any of Abby’s other books, read Part of Your World (a must) and Yours Truly (recommended) before reading this one. You’ll connect with the story on a much deeper level this way. 2. Set yourself up in a comfy chair - you’re going to be here for a few hours. This is not a book you pick up and put down without finishing it. Make sure you have tissues and your emotional support water bottle handy. 3. If you can plan it in advance, order some Nadia Cakes cupcakes (via Goldbelly) to complement your emotional support water bottle (mine arrive tomorrow!). 4. Know that a book hangover to end all book hangovers is coming. Don’t fight it. Be prepared with a list of books to read next. I recommend Julie Soto’s Forget Me Not, Emily Henry’s Beach Read, or Katherine Center’s The Bodyguard. 📽️ Death Proof 🍺 @rivingtonbrewco X @overtonebrewing Death proof - DIPA Death proof is a movie that I had a funny relationship with, when I first saw it, I loved it, then on a rewatch I didn’t care for it, now I love it again, and appreciate it for what it is, obviously Tarantino is going for the whole grindhouse aesthetic but also killing off the main cast at the midway point is an obvious homage to Psycho and creates a sense of unease as well as cementing Kurt Russels Stuntman Mike an unstoppable mad man. And then we have what might be one of the best car chases committed to film since vanishing point, a film that Death proof, not only mentions by name but uses the same car! It’s a rip roaring god time and then we conclude the movie and it just ends, no sum up, no tying up lose ends just, splat, kill the baddie, roll the credits, something I wish more movies would do! The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 I have been meaning to read Abby’s backlist for such a long time, and happy I finally read the start of this interconnected series. I do have some mixed feelings about this one, and honestly is my least favorite of Abby’s that I’ve read so far. Still 4 stars is not a terrible rating though. This is a trend with me lately- didn’t like the first 70%. I was not a fan of the miscommunication, instalove, friends with benefits trope and cheating along with the female main character Kristen’s personality. Then after the 70% or so mark- I loved it and would have rated the last 30% 5 stars. It felt like a totally different book. In regard to the whole book though, I loved the male main character Josh and his teddy bear/ golden retriever personality. Also, Stuntman Mike was perfect! He is one of Abby’s real life dogs and love watching his TikToks, so I very much enjoyed seeing him including in the book. Since this is an older book, released in 2019, I won’t write up a usual synopsis. But basically The Friend Zone is a rom com that includes the tropes: friends to friends with benefits to lovers, forced proximity, instalove, workplace romance and miscommunication. It is funny with also being emotional and especially heartbreaking near the end. Definitely has a few trigger warnings that I encourage you to look up if considering reading it. I would overall still recommend this book. I’m excited to feature these two books that absolutely stole my heart ♥️ 🥰 Both of these books have been around on the gram for awhile now so I’ll skip the synopses and full reviews here, but they’re available on my Goodreads 😍 These books have recurring characters and should be read in order, with Part of Your World first. Alexis and Daniel are the two main characters in that book, and Briana and Jacob are the two in Yours Truly. Alexis and Briana are close friends and emergency room physicians in the same hospital - their friendship is featured in both of the books and it’s really refreshing to see a female workplace portrayal that isn’t full of cattiness or competition. Briana and Jacob have workplace romance and fake dating tropes, while Alexis and Daniel have age-gap, opposites attract and family drama. They BOTH have miscommunication - and tons of it. That could be frustrating, but I would literally die for Jacob so I got over it quickly 🤣Yours Truly has some really great anxiety rep - and with the MMC, which I typically don’t see a ton of. She writes with a depth we don’t get from other places, always a behind the story-story, and a perfect amount of hilarious witty banter that’s unmatched. I just connect with her books like no other. This book was so great. The backstory here represents infertility which is a major struggle for many, and stacks the most amazing love story on top of it. Josh and Kristen are great in this book, and there’s Kristen’s dog Stuntman Mike, which #IYKYK (follow Abby on IG!!!) Josh is one of my favorite MMCs, and Kristen is a wild child. It’s an imperfect love story wrapped inside a real life very tough situation. I never thought I would ever get an #abbyjimenez book on @netgalley but I did. I screamed when it was approved. It probably helps I’m in her Facebook group. 😂 Just for the Summer is my favorite book of hers. It brings the Part of Your World trilogy together so beautifully. In true Abby fashion I laughed and cried. Justin and Emma experience so much heartbreak and yet still find a way to grow and love. The Easter eggs in this book are chef’s kiss. I found myself smiling so big the last 20 percent of the book when it all came together. Top 10 Quentin Tarantino scenes 5. Pulp Fiction- dark comedy at its finest. It’s so unexpected but it’s such a perfect moment. 4. Jackie Brown- the moment Max lays eyes on Jackie coupled with that musical cue started one of my favorite love stories put to film. The moment he saw her he fell in love and it’s palpable. It’s perfection. 3. Death Proof- my favorite car chase of all time. The script was flipped against Stuntman Mike and it was fun seeing the prey becoming the predator. 2.
