⭐️⭐️⭐️/out of 5 *BOOK REVIEW * *SPOILERS* A small mountain town finds itself turning into the hunting grounds for a murderer (again). When the town "rake" is found brutally murdered, the entire town is questioning who could be capable of such evil. The problem is, with a few scorned women from Jamie's past currently visiting- its hard to tell who had it in them to commit such a horrid crime. They say he'll hath no fury like a woman scorned... and "they" were right. The question is... which scorned woman could it be? 👀...... I REALLY wanted to love this book after reading book 1 in the series. However, I just didn't find it nearly as good. I wish they had put more time between the murders from the first book and this one. Maybe add some more character/relationship development? Also... the main plot? It just doesn't seem believable how it all was laid out. Mere months after a serial killer hits a quiet mountain town, there's ANOTHER brutal murderer in their midst? After so long with no major crimes? Obviously, it isn't impossible. But, I don't know... I just felt like a little more time between each storyline would have made it a little more probable. I still enjoyed the book, it just didn't catch my interest nearly as much as the first. Will I be reading number 3 in the series? Sebenernya nggak ada kekerasan apapun di dalam text novel(seingetku), cuman emang ini agak rada-rada psycho gitu, and you know, it contains a plot twist, and you won't imagine it before who is the killer, aku bahkan sampe ngeduga 'Did Queen Qortez killed Lulu?' Ada banyak adegan di novel ini, jadi aku harap kalian bijak membacanya(aku udah bijak lho ya wkwk), tapi nggak parah-parah amat kok:), even adegan ranjang, tapi perasaan nggak alay dan jamet bahasanya, i guess, probably because the writer is usual to write an adult story(i don't say that you can enjoy the part-even iya-, paham lah wkwk). Drei Bücher, die ganz schön unterschiedlich sind, aber eins haben sie gemeinsam: sie sind auf englisch. Ich habe mir vorgenommen viel mehr auf englisch zu lesen - läuft bisher echt gut! Hier meine Kurzmeinungen: Death on the Nile von Agatha Christie Ein wirklicher Krimifan bin ich nicht, trotzdem wollte ich gern mal wieder was von Christie lesen, vor allem weil ich den alten Film zu diesem Buch sehr mag &schon oft gesehen habe. Lässt sich super lesen, bleibt spannend, es gibt zahlreiche interessante Verwicklungen, die wirklich kurios sind! Zu Recht ein Krimiklassiker! Normal People von Sally Rooney Ein typisches Hype-Buch, mit dem ich absolut nichts anfangen konnte. Obwohl ich einige kritische Meinungen dazu gehört hatte, wollte ich es selbst lesen - hätte ich mir auch sparen können. Die Geschichte war leider echt platt, es gab einige Probleme, die eigentlich keine hätten sein müssen. &vor allem: die zwei Hauptfiguren haben einfach nicht miteinander über ihre struggles gesprochen! Anstrengend! The Murder Game von Beverly Barton Mal wieder ein Teil einer Reihe - man kennt mich, ich lese es trotzdem, auch kontextlos! 😂 Hat aber der Geschichte keinen Abbruch getan, denn die war so gut! The Fifth Victim by Beverly Barton This murder mystery had very likeable main characters who were brought together after the brutal murder of a Cherokee Pointe local. The suspense was built up quite well, making it hard to put the book down! I was able to figure out who the killer was quite early on in the book, however this didn't take anything away from the climax of the story. I may have enjoyed the book more if there had been more backstory to the killer and more depth in some of the relationships of the characters. Close Enough to Kill (2006) Beverly Barton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There’s always typos somewhere. I happened to find one “quite as a mouse” instead of “quiet as a mouse”. Besides noticing the world’s tiniest mistake I could not put his book down. It started strong, dark, and brutalizing. Understand before reading this that the fictional characters endure up to two weeks of being raped, tortured, and later killed. If this is not your thing and to some it may be triggering then I do not recommend you this unless you honestly believe you can handle the graphic horrors. It’s an amazing book and I love the details and how they don’t go too far but just enough to feel the characters fear whenever they hear a phone ring, to be constantly looking over your shoulder, such great atmosphere in the build up. So many possible suspects and while reading I found out who it was closer to the middle of the book because of my suspicions and that were later starting to be more confirmed as the book progressed. What I loved was the killer wasn’t given away very quickly. What I hated in a living way because it was worth the wait was finally knowing who the killer was. There are so many memorable characters, especially Bernie, Jim, Robyn, and Ron. I personally didn’t like Robyn. I know Robyn and her type. Naturally I shouldn’t like Ron because Ron is just like Robyn. It’s a double standard thing. I believe it’s because Robyn went after certain characters and it made me mad at her. She’s just super bratty and narcissistic and just not my type. The one thing I notice is pretty much everyone knows everyone in more ways than one. It’s a great mystery thriller. Une intrigue sympa à lire même si on suppose grandement certains faits au cours de la lecture. Après nous n’avons pas toutes les clés en main sur l’intrigue et certaines révélations se feront sur la fin puisqu’ici j’ai hésité sur différents personnages pouvant être impliqués dans l’affaire. 📚 Lecture terminée 📚 Rêves en noir de Beverly Barton Mon avis : Tout commence avec une relation compliqué qui va à son type pour la jeune Jazzy et Jamie. Elle était folle amoureuse m'est c'est terminée et il n'arrête pas de la relancer alors que celui du est censé se marier avec une fille bien de la haute roche comme lui. Jusqu'au jour où une amie de Jazzy a une vision car elle est médium et elle voit Jamie se faire torturer par une femme qui a la même coupe et couleur de cheveux que Jazzy. Elle veut agir mais le temps de retrouver le lieu de le reconnaître morsquils arrivent avec la police Jamie est mort et tout accusé Jazzy et quelqu'un s'en est assuré. La mère du mort en plus veut la tête de cette moins que rien selon elle. On peut dire que lorsqu'elle croyait que Jamie avait compris que tout était terminé elle aurait tranquille et voilà que même mort il continue de lui pourrir la vie. Qui s'en est pris à lui? Sera t'il le seul? Dans l'ensemble c'est un bon roman marque pour moi à tort en tant que roman amour mais où le crime et le mystère sont vraiment des principaux moteurs. Les tortures ne nous sont pas épargnés. On suit la police comprend des raisonnements même si au fond de nous comme des amis nous ressentons que Jazzy n'est pas coupable. Mais qui peut faire ca et surtout pourquoi. On a même quelque interactions de cette tueuse dans vraiment comprendre qui elle est jusqu'à la fin et cela est appréciable. Inutile de vous préciser que d'autres meurtres vont avoir lieu. Et que nous allons mener l'enquête et personnellement je lavais pas compris qui cela pouvait être. I try not to harp on issues of political correctness in my reviews and I do also try to keep an open mind for biases and ignorance of characters based on their background and the authors themselves, particularly with older white authors. BUT it was particularly difficult to overlook the blatant racism in the Cherokee Pointe Trilogy as the series progressed. In the first book when the clairvoyant heroine is described as a "breed" and later a part "Indian", praised for her exotic beauty, I brushed it off but as the series progressed and her cousin Jacob, the "half breed" described as having "savage features" it became progressively uncomfortable. When we are introduced to a stuck-up, exceptionally racist heiress who would later become his love interest it was honestly gross to read her POV where I shit you not she referred to him as "morally & socially inferior", a "dangerous savage" and "primitive". I understand that their romance was supposed to be an enemies-to-lovers trope but the fact that so much of her dislike for him came from his perceived inferiority by birth and economic status was actually disgusting, I found myself hoping she was killed by the not so creatively named "Red-Head Killer". As a mystery series it was not particularly ground breaking and if I wasn't in such a romance reading slump and these books were not free I would not have even bothered to finish. I think this author could really benefit from a sensitivity reader and just not writing about Native Americans anymore. #bookreview #bookstagram #beverlybarton
