❓How to start weight training or resistance training in a gym? You have options to train with dumbells or machines or body weights. It’s easier to train on machines because you need minimal setup and your body is stable to move the weights. On machines chances of injury are less as compared to free weights. Start with low weight and gradually increase the weights till you can do 2 sets of 8–12 reps. Get a gym trainer to guide you in using the machines. If your gym is not having adequate number of machines, take personal training for a few months. I usually do an account of #exercising. I’m going to take a break and discuss my knees. Instagram gives the impression of a perfect life. My knees are toast; #osteoarthritis, #tendonitis all over but especially joints, torn ACL, torn meniscus on both knees. In the early 2000’s I was training hard at #aikido but managing the pain with prescription levels of ibuprofin. Not really good. At a doctors appointment I must have had a fit and demanded a solution. My doctor referred me to an orthopedic surgeon, actually the surgeon for both the #sf49ers & #oaklandraiders 😳 After review he said “You have perfect knees for a sedentary lifestyle. Problem is you have an active lifestyle. You can change your lifestyle to fit your knees, going sedentary will ultimately dramatically decrease your health and may even shorten your life. Or you can change your knees to fit your lifestyle .” He explained there was no surgical option for me. But by strengthening the muscles surrounding my knees eventually muscle replaces some function of my joints. So this I did, taking stairs whenever available, walking, weight training or bodyweight fitness and riding a bike. Czołem świat!🫡 Parę słów o mnie... Od dziecka kocham aktywność fizyczną. Pierwszym sportem, z którym związałam się, była piłka nożna. Oficjalne w klubach sportowych grałam 7 lat. W tym 4 lata futsalu podczas studiów w AZS UMCS⚽ Od 2017 zaczęłam dodatkowo przygodę z bieganiem🏃. Startowałam na przestrzeni czasu w wielu imprezach biegowych na różnych dystansach; 5km, 7.5km, 10km, 21km. 🛣️ Wielokrotnie brałam rownież udział w Akademickich Mistrzostwach Polski w futsalu oraz biegach przełajowych. W międzyczasie przewijała się także dla czystej pasji wspinaczka🧗 W 2022 ukończyłam kurs trenera personalnego z Mauricz Training Center akredytowany przez międzynarodową organizację REPS✅ Siłownia wcześniej była dla mnie uzupełnieniem pod sporty, które uprawiałam. Five of my Movement Goals in 2024 👇 1. Dragon Squat The full depth flat ground dragon squat is now a priority on my my lower body days twice a week. This one has been a hard slog for me over previous phases with big gaps in between. But now I'm within striking distance it's pedal to the metal to unlock this beast. 2. Windmills To really own these I want 10 consecutive mills with power. Another long term project in the making but with the hardest part now under my belt (sufficient physical conditioning and enough pattern awareness to manage 2 mills), there is light at the end of this tunnel. 3. 90 Degree Push Up Is there any feat of raw push strength more phenomenal than the 90 degree push up? 80 degrees on Pbars is my current level but with focus this year I hope to take these to the flat ground. 4. Soft Acrobatic Transitions More stranding transition options for my soft acrobatic and locomotion practice. 5. One Arm Handstand This one is a beast and from all accounts it's unlikely I'll tick this off this year but I'll put in my weekly efforts 3 times a week to push the needle towards a hold as far as I can. Im also working on BJJ and Mobility goals this year. Have you set your 2024 goals? ➡️ My Personal Mobility Transformation started in 2017. My goals were: 1. Straight Handstand. 2. High Bridge Back Bend. 3. Pancake. 4. Transform from clean cut Lawyer into Chewbacca. All four took enormous patience. The Wookie look was more a matter of "do less" than do more. The other 3 goals are all still on my goal list. I still want a straight(er) handstand. I want a deeper back bend. I want to feel my belly on the floor in my pancake. All remain ongoing projects that I cycle through in periods of more intense focus than other times. Learning to bend as an adult is not easy. At least not for me. But the you in 5 years will wish you had of started today. It was 2017 and I blinked and here we are in 2024!
