At CrossFit Issaquah, we take a simpler, faster, safer approach to fat loss and changing lives. Through our group classes and nutrition coaching, we have helped hundreds of members not only achieve the bodies they want, but also change their lives. Stacie is one of those members. Here is her story: “Joing CFI has truly changed my life. I didn’t walk into the gym with a goal to lose 75 pounds, I just wanted something new. I didn’t know I would lose the weight, feel and look better at 40 than I did in my 20’s or completely change my lifestyle and outlook on life, but I did… thanks to Mike and CFI. The desire and capability was in me, but CFI gave me the guidance, knowledge, plan and support I needed to link what I wanted to what I could actually achieve.  My weight gain was gradual over the years to a point where I couldn’t see just how out of shape and heavy I was. I was lying to myself and was unhappy with who I saw in the mirror. I tried every diet, but I continued to gain. It wasn’t until I had a plan, consistency, support and motivation at CFI that my body changed. Going to class 6 days a week was enough to start seeing big changes in my body and health, but getting a nutrition coach and tracking macros changed everything for me. Not only did the weight start to come off faster and my body composition change, but I changed my relationship with food and what I thought about weight loss and nutrition. The ROWING MACHINE that is Julie 🔥🔥 @matthews1269 Julie approached me in January to help her with her nutrition for the 2024 rowing season Shes a competitive offshore rower, with about 10 races within 5 months 🚣‍♀️ She wanted performance improvement, and some top placings for this year 🙏🏼 A couple other goals sprinkled in there such as having visible abs, being able to achieve a body weight pull up, and improving her confidence! Julie is a bit of a grafter. She sets a goal, and she’ll work relentlessly to achieve that. The issue a lot of the time is KNOWLEDGE to achieve a goal, which is where I come in! So giving her some proper structure & goal setting with the journey, an effective nutrition layout, and the specific programming, has really allowed Julie to create the physique & performance gains she wanted! As a busy mom and business owner, Amy is passionate about teaching other adults like her, juggling a hectic life, how to carve out space for fitness. Amy is driven to help others to achieve their fitness goals, improve overall health and wellness, and to experience the joy and confidence that comes with making exercise a part of your daily journey. Amy is a lifelong athlete, playing soccer for over 15 years during high school through her 20s. Amy is also a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, practicing for over 12 years, and currently an avid CrossFit athlete and weightlifter. She has been coaching BJJ and group fitness classes for the past 12 years. When she has time to spare you can find Amy outdoors in nature, traveling, entertaining, or finding adventure with her husband, 2 kids and 2 Great Danes. As a group fitness instructor for over a decade now, Amy loves to work with all levels of athletes to help improve overall performance from helping beginners to gain confidence in the gym, to helping athletes develop a new skill, or improve current ones! Do you train with purpose? Today someone came up to me and my training partner in the gym and said, “You guys training for an event? I see you everyday working hard.” My response was, “I am but my partner here is just training hard.” I have multiple fundraising events on the horizon that will be unleashed shortly but my training partner doesn’t. This moment validated my entire mindset around training. Train hard. Train with purpose. Train don’t just workout. Regardless if you have a specific event or competition on the horizon act like you do. The greatest competition is the one with yourself anyway. Do you want to train with purpose? RECOMPING Everyone wants to lose fat and build muscle at the same time. But recomping is hard because the processes that build muscle and burn fat compete with each other. The fastest way to lose fat is to create a sustained calorie deficit. Building muscle is fastest in a surplus. Beginners can make amazing gains and lose fat at the same time without worrying much about a specific surplus or deficit. Usually, simply training regularly and eating better will do the trick. If you’re overweight or obese, you can even build muscle in a small to moderate deficit. But the more advanced you get, the harder it is to recomp. You’ll have to start optimising. Paying more attention to details that otherwise don’t matter as much. Such as organising training better to optimise stimulus and manage fatigue. You’d need to be more thoughtful about exercise selection and monitor progress more closely. More consistent with your eating, and other factors I don’t have the space to include … You have a smaller margin for error if recomping is your goal. If you’ve got plenty of fat to lose and you’re less experienced, you should be able to recomp effectively within a small window on either side of your maintenance calories. So you could hypothetically lose fat and gain muscle in a surplus or a deficit. I’ve tried a recomping approach before, and I didn’t find it too hard once I got the hang of it. HAPPY EASTER 🐰 EVERYONE From my family to yours, have a safe and happy Easter to each and everyone of you! Whether your a client or frequent reader of my posts, stay safe and hold your loved ones tight and show your body some appreciation for everything it does for you and rest at some point over the coming days. The last month or two have been a whirlwind of success here with clients. Now that I stop and slow the mind and look back over the CNS challenge, the 21 day mindfulness and my individual 1:1 clients I notice my chest puffs out with pride. For many reasons but mostly for their trust in me as their coach and their willingness to show up and persist until they have made themselves proud and also for my own persistence. To stick by my coaching methods no matter how much someone may not like them because I am making them slow down, be aware of what is not serving them and help them to enforce better and different lifestyle changes. Change is not easy. But nonetheless I have stuck by these methods and my clients have taken action and for doing so, they have reaped the rewards and made me one happy coach. So, I will persist just the same way my clients do and together great things will happen. Ive really seen this come to fruition over the last 2 months and for the next four days I will bask in these wins and I invite my clients to do the same. TRANSFORMATIONAL TUESDAY 😲 This guy. Meet Ben, not a client. My partner. This guy has done big things, in the most manageable way, in a short period of time. *time depends on the individual. Since we met (6mths ago) this guy has lost 12-15kgs. He is not 100% what he weighed when we met because he wasn’t expecting this to happen. Since Christmas he has lost nearly 8kgs (🤯) and has stay consistent for to “the plan” because “the plan” was very manageable and realistic FOR HIS LIFESTYLE. So why has he been so successful? - A big focus on protein intake - A big focus on plant matter - hydration improved (this is not solely water) - And back to working out 5 times a week (because he can do that!) Ben has nailed it! When he needs a rest day, he takes one. He wants to enjoy some delightful food, he will. And when more protein is needed, he will implement it. Simple. Affective and persistent.
