It was so well organised, so kudos @jtrunforall ! The route kept you guessing and given that they host two marathons now, I actually preferred Leeds for the route and the crowd support. The stadium finish was awesome too. Marathon number 4 done and I’ve decided I want more- dammit. We really do need to think about what we are buying… Mixed feelings on my run, great to have completed my old route it’s been about 6 month since I’ve done the whole thing after injuring my ankle, still feel a bit flat footed and felt the odd sharp pain. Delighted when a charm of goldfinch flew overhead. Cross with the 3 sh*** drivers out of 5 cars when there’s only them and me on the country road ( I am careful and considerate). Happy to see my smiley, waving bin men. We're back at ten miles woohoo! That was hard work this morning. I had hoped to run a half marathon, but with life stress, illness and hangovers (👀) I haven't been consistent with my running at all since Liverpool in March. Not where I wanted to be, but I will be able to run Chester half marathon in two weeks. This will mean I'll have the base fitness needed to start the big marathon training in June. So I'm pleased by my efforts, especially as I was trying to talk myself out of it after 2 miles!

🔔 Cheeky PB over 3000m last night! 🤙🏻Official time of 9:46 (1 second off my target but a 10 second PB). Really alien to race 3000m on the track (as a marathon runner) and I wasn’t sure how to race it. I’ve cancelled my ultra, and I’m not going to Berlin - a choice I made because I’ve just joined @the.green.runners. I have nothing to prove with Berlin after my brilliant experience last year and I can’t justify the flight to myself. I’m setting my sights on one big race this year - Chicago. And yes, I’ll fly there but it’ll also be our holiday. One thing I value about @the.green.runners is their perspective on progress not perfection. Orchids and red kites on my run today. . I killed my legs in the gym yesterday (why don't I know better yet?!) so it was a slow long run on the trails today. But that gave me time to stop and admire the orchids after taking the paths which are rarely used by the locals. The red kites were soaring overhead no doubt after the baby bunnies and hares which are everywhere now. London 2024 - I did it!! I'm a London marathon finisher!!!🏅🙌🏻 It's only just sinking in, one of (if not thee) best marathons in the world. I felt so privileged to be able to take part yesterday. It's true what they say- the crowds are insane, the volunteers are so friendly and supportive and it was an incredible feeling to be there, running in amongst all these inspirational runners ❤️ I was hoping for a PB yesterday but it didn't work out, due to some sciatic pain (which was pretty nasty if I'm honest). That said I LOVED the first half and completely soaked up the atmosphere - the pinch me moment was definitely Tower Bridge 🥹- WOW!!! 🎊🇬🇧 The second half was painful (especially the last 10k) it was a case of pushing on and just getting to the finish line. And thankfully I did! 🙏🏼 Running down the mall was really special ✨✨ The best finish line to such an iconic race. LONDON MARATHON 2024 — Official Time - 3:21:50 — There’s a reason why they say London Marathon is THE greatest marathon, because it simple is! — The noise from the crowd is something you’ll never experience again in your life, it’s just a wall of noise, a wall of clapping, strangers shouting your name, what a feeling!! — I’ve been lucky enough to get into the ballot twice now but this time around I put a fair bit of pressure on myself to train properly and do the right things throughout! — Went with 3 plans Plan A) Sub 3:20 Plan B) Sub 3:30 Plan C) Beat 3:37 (previous PB) — As you can see by the splits, I couldn’t have ran a better race in all honesty. I gave absolutely everything and more and I came away knowing I couldn’t have done anything else. That’s all you ask for on race day! — Managed to see my cheer squad twice which was THE best feeling in the world, thank you @petelane1960 @brenda.lane.7923 @meganrosesheehan & my little G ❤️ — The inevitable 20/21 mile doubts came in and I spotted a few of the @northowrampumas cheer squad which gave me a much needed wake up call to get the job done 👏🏻 — I cried 8 times throughout that run yesterday, tears of joy & sadness 😂 — I’ve got a 15 minute marathon PB in London!!! Oh London. So much to say. I got a spot on a good for age place having been unsuccessful in the ballot but having already entered Manchester (which was the weekend before). Yes I ran both, neither of which I trained for properly (life), both of which I did sub 4. Did I sneakily aim to beat last week's time today? Absolutely. 3h49. 3rd fastest marathon. I am SO excited to see what I can't do with a proper training block, strength and conditioning, and not training for an Ironman at the same time! BQ, I'm coming for you!

✨ Manchester marathon ✨ @manchestermarathon What a day! Now I've got back home and soaked in the bath with some snow fairy, I can reflect on the day! 🫂The crowds were absolutely amazing and the weather behaved. I really enjoyed this marathon and would put it above London! 🧠 I went into this with a pragmatic mindset, I knew at some point I was capable of a certain time but also promised myself that I would try not to be disappointed if it didn't happen! 💪🏼I started out steadyish and had to be quite strict on pacing, although the odd quicker than planned mile did happen. All I could think of is how crap I felt around mile 18 at London back in 2018 and got a bit anxious every time I started to feel like I was flagging. I did have some energy dips but seemed to manage to overcome these and started pushing the pace just before mile 19, more to see if I could push myself and hang on. It paid off, and I was calculating the times I needed to run/reach a certain mile by in the order to get the time I was targeting! Pushed through, felt strong and crossed the line in not just 3:30 but 3:28:39!! I was so happy (they are happy tears in that photo, my partner decided to take a photo of me, I didn't ask him to 🤣). It's taken me 5 marathons but I've done it, and hope this gives motivation and hope to those that are targeting a time and haven't got quite there yet, you can do it ♥️ I might now apply for Boston marathon but with the expectation that I'll get rejected 🤣 I'll aim to post this week what I did that helped this time around, not as advice but maybe as a bit of inspiration. There were some brilliant times by fellow runners today and I so grateful to everyone I know who came out and supported me! I can confirm that my ASICS Novablast 4’s are super comfortable and have a fair bit of bounce in them. Well hello!!!! Not posted since Monday! The plan was to have a quiet week and that’s sort of what happened! Said to Terry we wasn’t going to have a big load of plans for everyday in the holidays like we normally do. It’s been a pretty good job that was the case as Faith was a bit poorly and Noah had a nasty cough and we needed him to get better ready for his pre-op yesterday (the reason I didn’t go to parkrun). Also trying to find somewhere to have a 13th birthday party is proving a bit of a nightmare as the place we booked had cancelled 😩 We had a lovely Easter and I’ve had chance to get some decent mileage in this week, also done quite a bit of reading! I also entered a half marathon and finally got some racing trainers, which I can’t wait to wear, also feeling slightly nervous as they are so bouncy!! I had a great run out on the trails with Isla, Torin, Loch and a load of the Leeds/Bradford Vegan Runners in the Yorkshire Wolds today. Another new parkrun today at Sandall Park! Really nice route to be fair, minimal hills, just a little bit of a muddy patch that might slow you down a bit 😂 Definitely will go again when it's dried out and go for a faster effort, friendly volunteers and one guy even handing out high fives, always appreciate it when they try and put a smile on your face! Oh, and I made an enemy! A DUCK! Just trying to get some nice photos, when it decided to square up to me with its stupid beak open 😂 Lucky I didn't give it an RKO! And last, but not least, in our ONE WEEK TO GO series is Soyland Moor Fell Race. A classic fellrace in the making. Visiting the worse and best that Calderdale has to offer! Starting with a steep tarmac uphill from the Hinchcliffe Pub towards the delightful bogs of Sunderland Pasture, onwards to Stoodley Pike, runners head over the moor along the Pennine Way and then over to cross the B6138 Cragg Vale Rd, heading towards Great Manshead Hill and then following the route back towards the Hinchliffe Arms. Each checkpoint must be visited in the correct order and all participants must follow the route marked on the map. The start and finish will be flagged. Sunday 3rd November. £12 (+£2 unaffiliated).
