Not so long ago, but feels like a lifetime ago, I had started a gratitude practise and began sharing on here, one to hold myself accountable and 2, just to be able to share some positive things in my life. Something that would have been helpful to hear when I first started to explore yoga: "feel over form." I count it among my mantras. And, as more and more yogis are pointing out these days, yoga is not just asanas. Asanas are a small part of the whole. Here, I'm doing a warmup exercise that will help me to sit still in easy pose while I do breathwork. But my point is, we can't all stretch our legs out horizontally to the sides; we can't all do the splits; we can't all get our heels to touch the ground in downward dog/triangle pose. With regular practice, many things become easier, looser, it's true (my heels now touch the ground in triangle pose). But not everything is a given for everyone, and that's A-OK. We are all different. Our bodies are maps of diverse experiences, and diverse multi-coloured traumas. So if you're getting that sweet stretch on and it feels good but you don't quite look like your on-screen or real-life teacher, that's ok. If you don't look quite like your classmate, that's ok too. Forcing yourself into a shape against your body's will is never advisable. You might bounce back too fast, and it might not be safe. Instead, opt for gradual growth; the gradual freeing up of space. In my experience, its effects run deeper, and much kinder. I love Kundalini yoga in particular because it is truly designed for all bodies and all experiences. Day 28 of #yogawithadriene30daysofyoga Build~ Yoga For Cyclists🧘🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️ This was such a great full body practice especially those stretches that helps you relieve stress and tension in the neck, the shoulders, the chest, the hips, the hamstrings(still hurts a bit so I didn’t push on this too much this morning), and the feet. When you slow down the way this practice encourages us to do, it helps you gain awareness in your subtle movements and shifts that really makes a difference in how you move in your sports. For me, this is so important because when I practice Taekwondo, it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and not think about how to move and what to look out for so that you won’t hurt yourself. Day 27 of #yogawithadriene30daysofyoga Build~ Dedicate - Day 27 Power🧘🏻‍♀️💪⚡️ When you set an intention during the practice and tune into it, it really helps me set the tone of the day. I’m not a very confident person but reminding myself that I am capable and strong boosts that part of me that needs nurturing and building up. Growing up I had many fears and slowly growing out of them one by one, gives me such a sense of accomplishment and even healing. As I train to become a yoga teacher, I’d like to remind myself that there are so many others who walk the same walk and having someone to help empower them is a gift. This seems completely unrelated to the practice but it’s all connected. As a person who grew up watching everyone’s expressions, hang on to every word, and overthink, it’s a wonderful feeling to free myself from that and just be responsible for my own actions and feelings. Day 25 of #yogawithadriene30daysofyoga Build~ Stretch And Core🧘🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️💪 I love this approach of core work. This practice in particular was interesting how you can get some stretch and core exercise at the same time. I can’t love those very subtle movements that are super effective on deep core muscles more! It can be challenging at times but that’s the ticket😁 You don’t need so much repetition on those movements because you are mindfully targeting those muscles and you will definitely feel it afterwards if you haven’t worked on your core very much or even if you have been working out like I do, you can still feel the effect. I had to be very mindful of my hamstring today because I hurt myself the other day during Taekwondo and I can’t stretch it too much or it won’t heal as fast as it should. Descobreix l’entorn del Baix Montseny amb la ruta sobre rodes autoguiada R5 Serres de Vilamajor i Pont Trencat amb un dels nostres GPS! 🧭 En aquesta ruta circular BTT de 26km i 365 metres de desnivell positiu acumulat seguiràs el següent recorregut: 1️⃣ Sortint des de la nostra seu, l’espai Montseny Via Natural, antiga estació de ferrocarril de Santa Maria de Palautordera, ascendirem per la Serra de Vilamajor, ubicada entre les conques de la Tordera i Mogent. Passarem per algunes urbanitzacions i l’antic camí ramader de Sant Elies fins a arribar a Santa Maria de Palautordera. 🚵‍♀️ 2️⃣ Tot seguit creuarem la restaurada passera de Can Serra, fins a trobar-nos al Parc dels Enamorats on, a continuació, arribarem al Pont Trencat. 🌲💛 El Pont Trencat és un antic pont gòtic construït entre els segles XIV i XV que permet travessar el riu Tordera seguint l’antiga Via Augusta o Camí Ral. L’any 1811, durant la Guerra del Francès, una de les arcades del pont va ser destruïda amb la finalitat de dificultar el pas de les tropes napoleòniques invasores. No va ser fins al 2003 que es va restaurar el pont, completant amb una estructura metàl·lica d’acer, que evoca la seva forma original, la zona enderrocada. 🌁 🧱 3️⃣ Es finalitza la ruta gaudint del paisatge de diferents camps i masies on l’últim indret del nostre trajecte serà la baixada pel Torrent dels Abaus. 🌾 Quin ha sigut el teu punt preferit de la ruta? Descobreix l’entorn del Baix Montseny amb la ruta sobre rodes autoguiada R5 Serres de Vilamajor i Pont Trencat amb un dels nostres GPS! 🧭 En aquesta ruta circular BTT de 26km i 365 metres de desnivell positiu acumulat seguiràs el següent recorregut: 1️⃣ Sortint des de la nostra seu, l’espai Montseny Via Natural, antiga estació de ferrocarril de Santa Maria de Palautordera, ascendirem per la Serra de Vilamajor, ubicada entre les conques de la Tordera i Mogent. Passarem per algunes urbanitzacions i l’antic camí ramader de Sant Elies fins a arribar a Santa Maria de Palautordera. 🚵‍♀️ 2️⃣ Tot seguit creuarem la restaurada passera de Can Serra, fins a trobar-nos al Parc dels Enamorats on, a continuació, arribarem al Pont Trencat. 🌲💛 El Pont Trencat és un antic pont gòtic construït entre els segles XIV i XV que permet travessar el riu Tordera seguint l’antiga Via Augusta o Camí Ral. L’any 1811, durant la Guerra del Francès, una de les arcades del pont va ser destruïda amb la finalitat de dificultar el pas de les tropes napoleòniques invasores. No va ser fins al 2003 que es va restaurar el pont, completant amb una estructura metàl·lica d’acer, que evoca la seva forma original, la zona enderrocada. 🌁 🧱 3️⃣ Es finalitza la ruta gaudint del paisatge de diferents camps i masies on l’últim indret del nostre trajecte serà la baixada pel Torrent dels Abaus. 🌾 Quin ha sigut el teu punt preferit de la ruta? How you start your day can impact the rest of your day… I’m an ‘early bird’ & always start the day with movement… 🌅 walking the dog 🌅 weights workout 🌅 teaching a fitness class It really puts a pep in my step & I know it makes such a difference to my day.. Something else, I’ve been doing this for years, especially making my workouts a priority - yep, I still schedule them into my week, but I’m flexible as things crop up! As long as I get my 3 workouts in, I’m good! ‘Me’ a few years ago would probably have freaked out if I didn’t do my workout on that day because I had a crazy workout schedule 🤦‍♀️ SO, how do you start your day? Day 14 of our Kundalini Yoga Teacher social media challenge: if someone asks me what yogi inspired me most along the journey thus far, I gotta be honest and say Adriene & Benji...I know I'm FAR from the only one. A decade ago when I first started practicing with her online, what set her apart from the rest was her humour - I loved that she didn't take herself too seriously, cracking crass jokes in those perfect moments. To me, that's always been a marker of soulfulness, and of honesty, two qualities I value endlessly. Also, some people have called her the Bob Ross of yoga, and I think that's fairly accurate. 😅 Yes, she's gotten BIG, and yes, she's a bit more polished these days than she used to be, but I still have a huge place in my heart for these two. They carried me a long way, giving me cues for survival when I needed them badly. Day 24 of #yogawithadriene30daysofyoga Build~ Yoga For Strength And Focus🧘🏻‍♀️💪🧐 When there’s a word “strength” in the title, you know you are going to be challenged and I was not wrong. Although starting with nadi shodhana, alternate nostril breathing, helps with the concentration and calms the nerves so that you won’t be panicking when things start to heat up. In some practices, there are moments that I’m thinking, “ Ok. When is this over? My legs are shaking.” or “I don’t know if I can do this.” But it’s great to start the practice with breathing technique so that you are reminded during the practice how you should be breathing. That’s where you find the strength✨ And crow pose or bakasana is a perfect one to test out that strength and focus! I still have the hesitation when I get into bakasana, but more confidence too. I’m working on holding the pose longer. Day 23 of #yogawithadriene30daysofyoga Build~ Strength And Harmony🧘🏻‍♀️💪😌 This practice was strengthening but with a focus on ease to balance things out. A true Hatha yoga way. The push and pull, yin yiang, the sun and the moon. It’s easy to simply focus on the fact that it’s hard when you are working out, but what happens when you slow down and focus on where you can find ease. What if I engage my inner thigh muscles, can I support myself better and would that make this pose easier?
