Hello everyone, I want to share something exciting. I remember sitting in class @collegeofnaturopathicmedicine in my final year and thinking about what I would call my business. The name Bonnie Beginnings came into my head. I stuck with it and spent ages designing logos and felt totally attached to it. However……..and I’m sure many of us can resonate….. Once I qualified I was bursting to start my clinic and I had a panic. I wanted to hide and wasn’t ready to ‘launch’ my business. Clients were waiting to work with me and so I just called my business Gillian Cohen Wellness. Whilst it was very much me (my name 🤓) I regularly came back to Bonnie Beginnings. Bonnie means many things in Scottish: pretty, attractive, good. To me it’s a huge link to my Scottish roots and also it just screams positivity. In terms of a bonnie beginning, this can be literal as in I work with kids but also it’s a reminder that we can all make changes to how we live and how we feel no matter our age. So you might be a mum and ready for a bonnie beginning by getting on top of why you have digestive or skin issues, or, you might have a child who still has symptoms after seeing your doctor and you would like to explore other possible triggers and mediators. The age or stage in life does not matter - we can all invest in our health and look to make our time on this earth even better. Anyway, I was inspired this week by @bestemmarowland to just get on with it and change my insta handle to see how Bonnie Beginnings feels when out in the big wide world. I’ll leave it with you to see how it sits 🤓 To see if I am the right practitioner for you please check my profile - link is in my bio 🙌 #newbusinessname #bonniebeginnings #manchesternutritionist #onlinenutrition #toddlerskin #toddlerfood #childrensnutrition #nutritionformums #womenshealth #skinhealth #healthypoo #itchyskinrelief #itchyskinhelp #naturalparentingtips #hungrykids #constipationsupport #naturallaxatives #ibssupport #rootcauseprotocol

There is a variety of reasons why mums and kids work with me. I am a huge believer in an integrative approach. Some of the areas I focus on include: ⭐️Clean air ⭐️Optimal digestion ⭐️Balanced diet: eat what’s right for your own body ⭐️Relaxation ⭐️Immune system support ⭐️Emotional/spiritual well-being suggestions ⭐️Sleep education ⭐️Energy levels Want to know more? Comment YES PLEASE and I will be in touch! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I often refer my clients to their GP, if they have not already been to see them. My work is not a replacement for medical advice and diagnosing is out of my scope. If you have seen your GP, been checked out and still feeling below par then there is where nutritional therapy comes into play. #nutritionforkids #healthykids #constipatedkids #foodsforguthealth #guthealingdiet #leakygutrepair #manchesternutritionist #liverpoolnutritionist #leedsnutritionist #irritablebowelsyndrome #eczemafoods #skinbarrierhealth #microbiomesupport #feelinggood #nutritionprofessional #bantregisterednutritionist #skinproblemschildren

What Macro guy are you? The 3 examples in the Infographic are based on the different weights guys are at. If you have some good experience/education around food, then you can plug these macronutrient numbers into the MFP. If you don’t, then just focus on protein and calories. They understand that acne is a symptom👇🏻 Acne is a symptom. There is always a deeper reason why acne is happening and that’s what my clients understand. They all know there is a deeper reason why they have acne and they want to understand their root causes. Yes, your acne may be skincare related from pore-clogging ingredients. But let’s be honest. Majority of women experiencing acne have a deeper root cause and an imbalance within the body. So what does this mean?🧐 This means that something in the body is causing your acne to occur. This is often linked to a body system or a condition. Getting to the bottom of what that root cause is means that you won’t spend months or even years trying to fix the branches (symptom) which is acne. Here’s how you find your root cause👇🏻 1. Think about the other symptoms you may be experiencing. This could be bloating and constipation (gut related), anxiety and poor concentration (nervous system and inflammation related) or something else. 2. Make a note of what symptom is the worst and which ones bother you one a day to day (or even nightly) basis. 3. Use functional testing when working with me to fully pinpoint what the imbalance is. For example, you may experience bloating (so many people do) but a functional stool test will show exactly what is happening within the gut. I know you’re ready to get to your root cause so that’s why I created my FREE guide - the Root Cause Checker. This is a checklist of symptoms under the corresponding body system or condition. 📌To find out how to access this FREE guide comment below ROOT CAUSE and I will send you the link 🔗 Melissa🤍 #rootcauseapproach #rootcausesofacne #naturopathicnutrition #nutritionaltherapy #nutritionaltherapypractitioner #acnesupportcommunity #acnesupport #acneanswers #acnepositive #acnepractitioner #naturopathicnutritionist #nutritionistmanchester #manchesternutritionist #acneproblems

Nutritional therapy is not always about diving into supplements. I use food firstly when I make a plan, which is tailored to your goals. The benefits of bitter foods at the start of a meal might include: 🐢Digestion 🐢Absorption of nutrients 🐢Increase appetite 🐢Enhance your microbiome I work alongside medical professionals. Medical advice comes before that of a nutritional therapist. Always speak with your GP first. Dietary changes shouldn’t be made before speaking with a professional. Supplements should not be taken without checking with a professional - especially if your child is taking a medication. #microbiome #bitterfoods #digestiontips #hiccups #reflux #bloating #ibssupport #leakygut #grapefruit #rocket #sesameseeds #kale #radish #dill #artichoke #constipation #irritablebowelsyndrome #foodintolerance #childrensnutritionist #nutritionaltherapypractitioner #manchesternutritionist #cheadle #cheadlehulme #wilmslow #healdgreen #alderleyedge #bowdon #halebarns

Ah the Christmas buffet I love a buffet, don't you? Some people hate them. The pressure of standing there - how much to take, will I be hungry afterwards, will I eat too much. This tip is possibly easier said than done but it does help. Tip 2 - Don't stand next to the buffet We have all been there, nibbling away and forgetting how much we are eating. If everyone is around the buffet, why not get into a conversation and then say something like 'do you fancy grabbing a seat?' or 'do you fancy chatting somewhere quieter?'. Are you getting enough fibre? Most people are not.. Fibre is important for gut health, helping you go to the loo and keeping that microbiome happy. There are 2 types of fibre - Soluble and Insoluble... Most plant foods contain insoluble and soluble fibre, and both sorts remain undigested until they reach the large intestine. This is where the microbes jump into action and “digest,” or ferment, the fibre. In Short... increase your fibre intake - it's the food for your healthy gut bacteria. and remember... Happy Gut = Happy you! If you have any gut issues (bloating, pain, discomfort, diarrhoea, constipation etc...) get in touch and let's reimagine your GUT wellness. 🦋 #guthealth #guthealthmatters #guthealthcoach #knutsfordlife #knutsfordmums #wilmslowmums #manchesternutritionist #dietician #wellnesscoach #wellness #fibre #solublefiber #insolublefiber #microbiomehealth

❌INKEY LIST NIACINAMIDE NO LONGER ACNE SAFE Steal my ACNE APPROVED evening skincare routine🤍 As a follow on from the previous morning skincare routine I’m giving you an evening routine too. This is what works for me currently. This routine contains 0 pore clogging ingredients, can support anti aging, and doesn’t include harsh retinol/retinoids ingredients (though I do like a retinol now and again). Read the description for the full order breakdown 👇🏻 cleanse - treat - hydrate - moisturise - seal Exfoliation nights (every other night): 1. Cleanse with The Inkey List Hyularonic Acid Cleaner which also removes make-up. I double (sometimes triple) cleanse with this one. 2. Apply The Ordinary Mandelic Acid + 10% Hyaluronic Acid treatment to dry skin and leave on for 10 minute to let it do its thing. 3. Add The Inkey List Niacinamide Serum to add extra hydration and my skin loves this product. If your skin doesn’t agree with niacinamide you can use The Inkey List Hyularonic Acid instead. 4. Moisturise with The Inkey List Omega Water Cream which is a lightweight moisturiser completely free of pore-clogging ingredients. 5. Pai Rosehip Oil is my favourite oil to lock in the moisture from my other products. I only add this final step in the colder months. I will also mention I LOVE the Clear Skin Club disposable face towels for drying my face in a hygienic way. And the Derma Dots they have for pimples. What are your favourite skincare products for the evening?👇🏻 Melissa🤍 #acneskincare #acneskincareroutine #simpleskincare #porecloggingingredients #acneapprovedskincare #acneexpert #acnespecialist #acnenutrition #acnenutritionist #acneproneskincare #acnecommunity #acnesupportcommunity #skincareforacne #naturopathicnutritionist #nutritionaltherapist #manchesternutritionist

❌INKEY LIST NIACINAMIDE NO LONGER ACNE SAFE Steal my ACNE APPROVED morning skincare routine🤍 When I say “acne approved” here I mean it. This morning skincare routine has 0 pore clogging ingredients, is on the cleaner side (ingredients wise) and follows a these very simple principles👇🏻 cleanse - hydrate - nourish - protect I get asked about skincare a lot. Since skincare is just a small percentage of the acne 🥧 then I don’t mind sharing my routines. In my Clear Skin Programme I like to audit my clients skincare routines. This means I check all products for pore-clogging ingredients and make suggestions based on their skincare preferences and skin types. I don’t go too deep into skincare because it’s not the root cause of Acne. However, it can be a contributing factor. It’s also important to check make-up, hair products, toothpaste and laundry detergent. NOTE: not all products by these brands are free from pore-clogging ingredients. Here’s a break down of my very simple routine👇🏻 1. The Inkey List - Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser. I do a gentle cleanse with this for less than 60 seconds and rinse with warm water (NEVER HOT WATER) 2. Pai Skincare - Century Flower Barrier Mist for added hydration 3. The Inkey List - Niacinamide Serum. I love this serum as it’s more stable than vitamin C 4. Inde Wild - Zinc SPF 50 is hands down the best SPF I’ve ever tried and is the most cost effective and acne safe one I’ve found so far 👉🏻What are your current favourite skincare products? I know you’re sick of hearing it but if you want the skin of your dreams then I need you HYDRATED. I’m an Acne Nutritionist who struggled with Acne for 10 years and when I had acne I ALWAYS drank enough water. Acne is a sign of an imbalance within the body, and even though dehydration isn’t necessarily the root cause of your acne, it shouldn’t be overlooked. Proper hydration is essential for both skin and overall health. You might not be hydrating yourself properly and here’s why👇🏻 👉🏻IS YOUR WATER FILTERED? If not, you’ll become the filter for the water. 👉🏻ARE YOU DRINKING 2L OF WATER? And not just 2 litres of liquid. 👉🏻ARE YOU DRINKING MORE WATER TO MAKE UP FOR THE WATER LOSS THROUGH DIURETICS? Coffee dehydrates the body so you’ll need more water to make up for it. 👉🏻ARE YOU MINERALISING YOUR WATER? Electrolytes and minerals in water are what hydrates the body. 👉🏻ARE YOU DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER? You need to stop diluting your electrolytes too much. 👉🏻DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH WATER YOU’RE DRINKING? Tracking is key. 👉🏻HAVE YOU OVERLOOKED THE IMPORTANCE OF HYDRATION ALTOGETHER? Just because it doesn’t clear your acne, doesn’t mean it’s not vital for overall health. 🚰 Are you drinking enough water? HYGIENE FOR SKIN THAT YOU CAN’T FIND ON GOOGLE I know you’re sick of hearing hygiene advice for your acne. That unwanted advice that your family and friends keep giving you. By now, you’re well aware that touching your face isn’t the best thing to do. You’ve probably been in the routine of changing your pillowcase every other night for years. And that friend with perfect skin who only washes her face with water and coconut oil isn’t going to give you life changing advice that clears your skin. Acne patients are some of the cleanest people around. But we can’t ignore the bacteria element associated with acne. P. acnes is a gram-positive commensal bacterium that causes acne on the skin but it doesn’t just come from external bacteria. The gut microbiome and the gut skin axis plays a role. For this post, here are external hygiene points for the skin that you can’t find on Google and that you grandma probably didn’t tell you: • it’s not your pillowcase it’s your pore-clogging conditioner • wash your face after brushing your teeth and switch your toothpaste to remove pore-cloggers, SLS and fluoride • close the toilet lid when you flush to prevent bacteria getting into the air • don’t keep your make-up brushes in the bathroom because that bacteria when you flush can get stuck in the bristles • stop drying your face with a towel because they harbour bacteria • stop putting your face on your yoga mat when your Pilates/yoga teacher tells you to • don’t use a gua sha on an active breakout but do a lymphatic drainage massage instead • is your partners beard really clean? 👉🏻Which point did you not know about? I’d love to know in the comments👇🏻 Melissa🤍 #acnebacteria #acnehygiene #acneclearing #acneclearingroutine #acnesupportcommunity #acnesupport #acnepositivity #acneproneskin #acnenutritionist #acnenutrition #naturopathicnutrition #naturopathicnutritionist #rootcauseapproach #manchesternutritionist #nutritionistmanchester

Let’s talk about pooping💩👇🏻 Our digestion is directly linked to the quality of our skin. To put it simply, when we poop we are eliminating toxins from the body. If these toxins can’t be eliminated properly through the stool, then they will try to be eliminated in other ways. This is when it can show up on the skin as acne. Our skin can also look more dull and we lose the brightness in our eyes when we aren’t pooping properly. There are various reasons why you may not have consistency with your bowel movements, such as stress, low fibre intake, dehydration, inflammation, poor sleep, medication, gut imbalances etc. 1️⃣ Make sure you are hydrated. Drink 2 litres of filtered water per day. Beverages such as coffee further dehydrate the body. If you need your coffee to pass a stool, then you’re constipated. 2️⃣ Eat enough fibre as per the recommended daily intake. The recommended amount of fibre is 30g per day. Fibre is found naturally in plant foods so increase your vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, beans, seeds and nuts. 3️⃣ Ensure you are getting enough sleep. On average, we need 7-9 hours of sleep per night but women need more than men. 4️⃣ Moving your body through exercise regularly will help with your bowel regularity. The colon responds to activity. Good muscle tone in general is important for regular bowel movements. 5️⃣ You need to reduce your stress. Stress hormones directly influence bowel movements by slowing them down. They can also cause inflammation which further impacts digestion. You may need further support to get your bowels moving optimally but here are some basic tips to support bowel regularity which shouldn’t be overlooked. 📌 If you’re looking for more support, I’m here to help. 🤍LIFE UPDATE & a rare look at my hair straight!🤍 This month I took the longest break from social media that I’ve taken all year. Not only from posting, but from scrolling too. I’m also tracking my macros which is something I haven’t done for years! I want to make sure I’m eating enough protein and supporting fat loss in a healthy and sustainable way🤍 • BUILDING MY BUSINESS - in April of this year I properly launched my Naturopathic Nutrition business but I don’t feel like I’ve fully committed all my ideas to it yet. I’m ready to give my business my all for the rest of the year to see the progress by Christmas🤍 • END OF SUMMER ADVENTURES - summer in Manchester has been mostly rainy with a sprinkle of thunder storms. I’m making adventures a priority for August🤍 • FUNCTIONAL TESTING - I’m testing my microbiome and my full blood count including liver and thyroid. My focus is to be the healthiest version of myself by the end of the year🤍 • STUDYING AGAIN - in September I’m starting the Naturopathy diploma at CNM which was my intent from the day I joined🤍 What are you excited for in August? Don’t get me wrong… This isn’t the only thing I would do. And functional testing isn’t essential for all clients as a symptoms approach can be incredibly effective. I’m talking for myself personally who already has the basics down. So let’s talk a bit more about the gut 🦠 There is an intimate relationship between the microbes that are in our gut and also the microbes that are on our skin. This is called the skin-guy-axis. Healthy microbes within the gut can help to maintain the intestinal barrier. This limits bacterial byproducts, undigested proteins, and toxins from passing through the gut lining and entering the blood circulation where it can eventual reach the skin. When there’s an imbalance between the beneficial and the harmful bacteria that live within our gut the intestinal barrier starts to weaken. This is from the dysbiosis. It’s really important to remember that gut health is a really complex topic and that everyone’s gut health will be completely different. 📌If you’re currently struggling with acne because you feel like you’ve TRIED EVERYTHING but haven’t been able to address the gut properly, then send me a DM. I’m currently accepting a couple more clients into my Clear Skin Complete programme. 🤍My reality in July 2018 was completely different to my reality in 2023🤍 Your journey towards clear skin begins when you decide it does. In 2018, I was completely lost. I graduated in a degree I wasn’t passionate about. I was moving to another city for a job I didn’t even want. I was in an unhealthy relationship which was now long distance. I had acne over my face which was getting increasingly worse and I had no idea why. It took me a while but eventually I decide to TAKE MY POWER BACK✨ You can decide today to take your power back as well and it won’t take you 3+ years of studying to clear your skin. I can help you get to the root cause of your acne and provide you with the education and tools that YOU need to maintain that result. In 2023 I graduated with a diploma in Naturopathic Nutrition and I now specialise in acne. I now help other women transform their skin too. I turned my insecurity into my calling. I’m now completely in control of my own health with ease. I’m in a healthy and loving relationship with the love of my life. I’m aligned with my calling and building my dream life. 📌 If you desire clear and glowing skin and need help and support on your journey then you’re the PERFECT fit for my 1:1 programme Clear Skin Complete. 🤍EATING FOR YOUR HORMONES TO SUPPORT YOUR SKIN🤍 When it comes to skin health and improving acne, our nutrition, what we eat, and what we ABSORB absolutely makes a difference. Here are some of my top foods that can support your female hormones and help calm your acne: 1️⃣ Cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, red cabbage, kale, and brussel sprouts. They help detoxify the liver, gave antioxidant properties and are anti-inflammatory. 2️⃣Flax seeds (ground): the lignans in flaxseeds bind to the oestrogen in the intestines ensuring their are eliminated. They also stimulate SHBG in the liver which helps lesson the symptoms of oestrogen dominance. 3️⃣ Oily fish: SMASH fish includes sardines, mackerel, anchovies, salmon, and herring. They are full of omega 3s which are great for building the skins natural oil barrier. 4️⃣ Healthy fats: olive oil, avocados, nut butter, nuts, seeds. They are building blocks for our hormones, help reduce inflammation, and balance blood sugar. 5️⃣ Complex carbohydrates: sweet potatoes, wild rice, quinoa, brown rice, potatoes, legumes. These are fibre filled and great for digestion. 6️⃣ Lean proteins: organic chicken, Turkey, beef, wild caught fish, organic eggs. Eating protein balances blood sugar, regulates oestrogen, and boosts levels of other chemical messengers that regulate energy and metabolism. 7️⃣ Low glycemic fruits: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries. They are full of vitamin C which helps progesterone levels in the luteal phase. 8️⃣ Legumes: chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, black beans. Not only are these great for vegetable protein, they are also a complex carbs, a good fibre source, and contain magnesium. 👉🏻What are your favourite foods for your skin and your hormones? 🤍MY 7 STEPS FOR CLEARER SKIN🤍 When I had acne, I always wanted to know WHY. The root cause of acne can be different for each person. However, there can be similarities to what causes acne. I hope this post can give you some insight into how you can approach getting clearer skin. Here are my 7 steps to getting clearer skin👇🏻 1️⃣ Heal your skin barrier and remove all pore clogging ingredients from your skincare, make-up, and hair care products. 2️⃣ Eat less sugar and remove processed foods. Create a nutrient dense diet with omega 3, lean protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, vegetables and low glycemic fruits. 3️⃣ Eliminate food sensitivities while focusing on healing gut imbalances. The health of your gut is a pivotal part to healing the skin. This also includes fixing any mineral imbalances. 4️⃣ Optimise all elimination and detoxification pathways. This includes your lymphatic drainage, liver detoxification, and (or course) your digestion.💩 5️⃣ Balance all hormones levels throughout your monthly cycle. Over the month, your hormone levels change. You also need to make sure your androgens aren’t elevated. 6️⃣ Support your nervous system to optimise sleep, reduce stress, improve your response to stress, and heal your trauma. 7️⃣ Exercise and sweat regularly with aligned movement. This can be whatever is your personal preference. It’s best to sync these to your cycle for hormonal support. 📌If you’re currently struggling with acne and need support getting to the root cause and healing from within then send me a DM. 👉🏻Which step do you need the most support with? 🤍IS FRUIT TRIGGERING YOUR ACNE?🤍 If you have acne then we need to talk about your fruit. 🍓I’m not a fan a removing beneficial foods in general, but with acne it can be important. Especially during the healing phase. 🫐 Fruits have so many benefits. They have essential nutrients, they have antioxidant, they have fibre, and they are so hydrating. 🍋Eating a rainbow can have great impacts on your health. 🍎However, when it comes to acne not all fruit will help your skin. 🍊Tropical fruits or fruits with a higher glycemic index have a higher sugar content which is a big trigger for acne. 🍐How you eat fruit and the order in which you eat fruit can also make a difference. Here’s my general rule for fruits if you have acne👇🏻 👉🏻Stick to lower glycemic fruits (listed below) 👉🏻Don’t drink fruits that have been juiced as the fibre has been removed which will cause a bigger sugar spike 👉🏻Eat your fruits after a meal so you’ve had your vegetable, protein, healthy fats and complex carbs first. You can wait 20 minutes if you’re concerned about bloating 👉🏻Consider going for a walk after if you’ve had a sweeter fruit as this helps your blood sugar 👉🏻Stick to 3 portions a day max and focus more on upping your vegetable intake My favourite fruits for acne prone skin👇🏻 ✨Blueberries 🫐 ✨Raspberries ✨Strawberries 🍓 ✨Lemons 🍋 ✨Cantaloupe melon 🍈 ✨Pears with the skin🍐 ✨Apples with the skin 🍎 🍏 ✨Plums ✨Grapes 🍇 Fruits to avoid (especially during the acne healing phase): 🍌Bananas 🍍Pineapple 🥭Mangoes 🍊Oranges Anything tropical 👉🏻Which is your favourite acne approved fruit? At the first nutrition session that I'm running at @littleboxgym in Manchester we'll be talking about sugar: * What it does to our bodies and brains * Why some of us want it more than others (I'll be talking about the impact of our genetics, hormones, neurotransmitter imbalances, stress, gut health and nutrient deficiencies) * How nutrition and lifestyle changes can make it easier to break a sugar habit by supporting genetic vulnerabilities, nervous system health, gut health and of course hormones. * There will be handouts, meal and snack ideas, and lots of time for group discussion and support. It's a self-compassionate approach rather than a boot camp approach. Many of us have a very emotional connection with sugar, and we will be talking about why that it is. Places are limited to 12 people and you can book for the session using the booking form link in my bio. #sugarcravingsbegone #sugarcravings #nutritionaltherapy #nutritionmanchester #manchesternutritionist #bloodsugarbalance #metabolichealth #moodsupport #sugarfree #sugarfreeliving #sugarfreeforhealth #healthysnacks

#The great #sarnieswap I am supporting @wcrfuk in their swap this week. My sandwiches have been largely processed meat free for a number of years so I wanted to share that it's not an impossible swap. Some of my go to favourites are: Homous (with avocado if I am really organised!) Egg mayo - the ones in the picture have spring onions in for crunch Tuna mayo with either sweetcorn or raw green pepper Chicken (I buy a kilo of chicken breast and cook it when I have the oven on, then I slice it and freeze it for sandwiches - sometimes I will add a marinade but often it is plain and then I add flavour to the sandwich) Tinned sardines or mackerel Cheese or cream cheese Peanut butter Some of these photos might look posh - they were for an afternoon tea to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary! Reducing processed meat is one of the ways we can reduce our risk of cancer. To me, it's a good thing to do - and not an expensive swap #sandwich #processed #egg #tunamayo #sandwichfiller #nutritionist #nutritiontips #manchester #manchesternutritionist #cancerprevention #cancerpreventionweek #cpaw23

🌱Pimp out your usual breakfast to support your energy, mood and brain health all day! 🧠How? By adding protein/healthy fats to a plain carbohydrate breakfast (i.e cereal/granola) 🥣 🍐A handful of mixed nuts and seeds or a good dollop of nut butter are a great source of both, and by adding in some extra fibre (berries/pear/apple..)to feed our good bacteria, you’re on to a great start of the day. 🍎The combination of fibre/healthy fats/protein at each meal balances your blood sugar levels, keeping your energy, mood and concentration levels stable until your next meal and avoiding any slumps throughout the day. 🥙Eating regularly is very important especially if you struggle with any of the above! #plantbased #plantbaseddiet #plantbasedfood #nutrition #nutritionaltherapy #nutritionaltherapist #nutritionfacts #manchesternutritionist #manchesternutrition #wholefood #wholefoodplantbased #breakfastideas

Hello! It's been an awfully long time, so I thought I best pop on and show my face (well, our faces actually!). I've had a whirlwind year of having a baby and then getting married 4 months after. It's gone so fast that I can't believe it's nearly the end of December! Cora is nearly 10 months old now and to be totally honest, I still don't know how to bring myself back on here as regularly as I used to be. I was naive in thinking that by around 4 months postpartum I would be making content for the grid and posting as often as I used to (obviously, that did not happen 😂). Having a baby is HARD. I have no time to do anything and I'm very, very tired. But it's also amazing and i wouldn't change it. Anyway, just a quick one to say hi and thank you for still following my little business page. I am going to try to be more active on here in 2023, even if not nutrition related (advanced warning for baby spam 🙃) as well as opening back up to see clients (spread the word!). Oh and I might need your help with finding specific clients with a specific health concern soon (more on this to come!). I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wishing you all a happy new year in advance 🎆 #kerryleighnutrition #nutritionandlifestylesupport

Sugar, is just as addictive has cocaine!🤔 I’ll get back to you, on that one.🙄 If you like full sugar coke, then fine. But, what if you are one of those guzzlers… looking to drop a bit of fat. Then why not swap full sugar, for Diet Coke/Zero instead. No calories. But it taste different. Maybe. But let’s look at it this way. If we could get over the slight different in taste, then we could save a shit load of calories. Any one else, a Coke Head? Baked beans are clearly a well known tinned food but are they healthy? You will hear me say this a lot. No food is unhealthy unless it is dangerous (going to cause food poisoning, dangerous because of a medical condition or your age group). Baked beans are high in fibre and protein. They are a good quick meal on toast. The challenge with baked beans is the sauce contains quite a bit of salt and sugar. So, I would recommend mixing a tin of baked beans with a tin of another type of bean (drained). You get a mix of vitamins and minerals and less sauce per person. I like my baked beans on own but I know others who add them to: 🙂 shepherd's pie 🙂 curry (after rinsing off the sauce) How do you like yours? #baked beans #tinned food #beans #heinz #pulses #lovepulses #nutritionist #nutritiontips #manchesternutritionist Image by Peggy cci from Pixabay

Weight loss tip number 7 Here is my last tip. Avoid quick fixes. Anything that promises a quick fix is dangerous. There might be times a medic recommends it, but that's different. I'm talking about general health and regular weight loss. Pills, diet teas, injections, gummies, extreme restrictions and cleanses are not safe. They are not safe long term but they also put us into a yo yo cycle which is dangerous. They might seem attractive but save your money and put your health first. I love a quick fix myself but when it comes to health, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Weight loss tip number 6 - accept it is a life long project Health isn't something we only have to think about once. It is an ongoing process. So why do with think about weight loss being a short term thing? We want to avoid the dangerous yo yo SO we must think about this long term. Also, as we get older and our metabolism slows, we to adapt our diets and exercise according to our current lifestyle. If we can change our mindset about time frames, we will do ourselves a massive favour. #overweight #weightloss #manchesternutritionist #nutritionistmanchester #nutritionistinmanchester #weight #weightlosshelp #coach #weightlossjourney #nutritionmyth

I’ve F….D up! Yeah, I’ve said it. Said it in Manchester, said it in Tenerife, said it in Turkey. A few months ago, my target was to drop down to 100kg. Didn’t happen! Started well, but it went pear-shaped. I’ve put more weight on. In the picture on the left, I weighed in at 108kg. In the picture on the right, I’m 104kg. May not seem much, in each photo. So what happened? Didn’t stick to the plan. Didn’t keep up the good habits, I’ve implemented in the past. So Project Fat Loss didn’t go according to plan. But I’m ok with shit. Why? At least I’ve not put the weight back on, from a few years ago. That would have been a disaster! But most people know how to lose weight. But the key is, how to keep the weight off. Do you actively plan to include iron rich foods on your menu? Iron is an essential nutrient so we should. It's essential in pregnancy all the way through to old age. Knowing which foods contain iron can help us include them and knowing which foods help and hinder the absorption of iron can help us maximise the benefit. You don't need to start counting milligrams of iron but including iron rich foods is a great way to help get enough. Want to learn more? Check out my blog article. Does plate size matter? This is not a post about weight loss. It's a post about little ones and how overwhelming big portions can be. Big plates and lots of food can: 🍽️ make children more fussy as they get overwhelmed 🍽️ lead to more waste 🍽️ make children eat more than they need to So... ✅ Choose a small plate, it will help guide you when you are serving ✅ Serve a small amount and let your child ask for more ❌ Don't force your child to finish everything on their plate (Picture shows the amount of food my 6 month old would eat at a meal - picture is scrambled egg) #egg #portions #toddlers #toddlerfood #familynutritionist #toddlernutritionist #childrensnutritionist #nutritionistinmanchester #manchesternutritionist #weaning #weaningcentre #mesize

So many will claim that it’s hard to keep any weight on, muscle or not when on a plant based diet. I’m afraid that’s simply not true - a calorie is a calorie at the end of the day. . . If you eat surplus calories you gain and if you eat in a deficit you lose. Simple as. Now plant based products are often lower in calories than animal products which is why those on plant based diets may lose some weight if they aren’t aware of this or able to manage this properly. But eat in a calorie surplus on a vegan diet and there’s no doubt you will gain mass. . . Another argument is that you can’t get enough protein as a vegan. Now it is more difficult for sure as you need to be eating a wider range of protein sources to be consuming every one of the amino acids you need to be building proteins in the body, muscle included. But it can be done. If you have been trying a vegetarian or vegan diet and are finding it difficult to manage or wish to give it a go, hit ya gal up 👋 . . . . #nutritioncoach #nutritionist #manchesternutritionist #manchesterpersonaltrainer #queerpersonaltrainer #plantbaseddietfacts #vegandiet #vegetariandiet
