Happy Friday! Finally some good news!!! I went to the doctor on Wednesday for my final ankle check up and she *officially* cleared me to start easing back into running! omg what 🥳 me: “wait, i can start running again?!?!” dr: “yes” me: “omg yay!” dr: “yay we graduated” me: “i was so good and didn’t run!” dr: “… you still went on that hiking trip… 😒” 🤣 honestly i don’t think my trip to Chile slowed down my healing, and there’s just no way i would’ve cancelled, but who knows 🤷♀️ either way, i made it! survived 12 weeks of no running and i didn’t go crazy! 🤯 Although tbh i’ve gotten kind of used to my new routine of indoor cycling + PT exercises… Was also thinking about how amazing the body is - how muscles and tendons and ligaments all work together to allow the body to thrive against the force of gravity, able to pound pavement for hours on end without breaking, able to absorb the impact of flying downhill full throttle on technical rocky terrain (my favorite). Just one bad step, distracted, one bad angle where my muscles could not contract properly and I was unable to control the immense force coming down on my suddenly awkwardly bent ankle, and *CRACK*! 12 weeks of no running and $$$ spent on doctors and PT fees 😭 But still, how amazing is the body?!? 🙏 Did a little 2 mile run walk test on the treadmill the other day - 2 min jog, 1 min fast walk, repeat. There is nothing quite like the feeling of riding round the country lanes and hills where I’ve grown up, knowing that I’ve wanted this for so long. ☺️ I’ve played on motorbikes and scooters here and there over the years, but mostly in other countries. Its taken me over 10years before I had the real F*** it moment and started getting my bike qualifications last year. Celebrating World Penguin Day! A king penguin surveys his domain on South Georgia Island. His outstretched flippers expose the highly vascularized underside of the wings, releasing heat and cooling the blood after a long swim in search of food. King penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) are quite specialized in their prey, preferring to eat lantern fish during the breeding season. During the winter months, the percentage of squid and krill in their diet increases. The second largest species of penguins, adult king penguins closely resemble emperor penguins, the largest species of penguins. They swim at speeds of 6 to 10 kilometres per hour and dive to depths of 100 to 300-plus metres. When you decide to change your life—whether it be a physical transformation or an emotional one or both—you have to make some choices. You have to decide between what you’ve been doing and what you want to do. Often major life changes require us to change how we’ve been living and many are uncomfortable with that and remain stuck. I can’t stress enough how important it is to make these changes. Strive for what you want and make your life about more than just a constant, anxious journey to be thinner. This is just not what life is about. Especially for women and those of us who are older. It shouldn’t be about trying to shrink yourself. It should be about becoming strong so that you can age better, enjoy your family more, maybe climb a few literal mountains. One of the things I love about solo hiking is the opportunity to think while working through your environment. I always come away with new insights. A year ago my nervous systems was shot. I had lost my faith and trust in the world around me and in people. I remember the unsteadiness I felt. I had a moment here that brought me back to a hike in Utah where I froze, literally not trusting the ground I was standing on. I would not have been capable of this hike then. I was able to feel the difference in my body now. That year I just hiked a lot… I signed up for a hiking challenge on 01/01/24. The challenge is to hike 365 miles within a 365 day period. Last week, I went on a Havasupai trip with my friends, and after that, I decided to extend my stay to explore a few things that I had on my bucket list. Took myself on my first ever Solo Hike. 8 miles - 19806 steps 📍Helm Crag, Gibson Knott, Calf Crag Started off dry and made Helm Crag pretty much in the dry, then the rain 🌧 started, and continued while I ticked off Gibson Knott. By Calf Crag the wind had picked up and combined with the heavy rain I made the long descent back to Grasmere, following Easedale Gill.
