Thriller Thursday | Cotton Comes to Harlem, by Chester Himes, is a great detective novel, noir-ish, set in the Sixties, published in 1965. It has actual scenes, lively characters, hard choices, action, desires, twists, high emotion, grounded setting, subcultures, and more. This is one book in a Harlem series, and I’m off to hunt for the next books, which are often difficult to track down. #writerdavidbarringer #chesterhimes #cottoncomestoharlem #theharlemtrilogy #noirnovels #detectivenovels #amreadingmysteries

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ #iltalentodimrripley #thetalentedmrripley #patriciahighsmith #patriciahighsmithnovel #noirnovels #romanzinoir #tomripley #tomripleybooks #dickiegreenleaf #romanzisuspense #bookblogger #ticonsigliounlibro #libridalleggere #libripreferiti #bookstgram

"𝙸 𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚊 𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕-𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚕𝚒𝚋𝚛𝚊𝚛𝚢 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚍 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑 𝚎𝚕𝚜𝚎" Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review : The book opens with a family tree, which immediately gave me a premonition that things were not gonna be good. Boy, was I right. Cadence Sinclair, a 19 year old girl, narrates the story in a much confused state. She faces memory loss from an accident that nobody wants to tell her about. The premise of the story is set at the Sinclair family's private island during the summer, where cadence, her cousins Johnny & Mirren, and Gat (also known as the "Liars") meet. Coming from a privileged old money family, her mom and aunts constantly vie for her grandfather's favour and money, much to the disappointment of the liars. They're often asked to stick up for their mothers to claim material things. The liars believed they were far above privilege and money. Their destructive adventures led them astray. Bringing down the patriarchy, making a change, and their little ambitious rantings. That is where their downfall begins and ends. The novel was written hauntingly and full of suspense, which was often confusing. I loved the metaphorical fairytales. To finish it all up, I disliked Cadence immensely. I still could not bring out an ounce of warmth for her when the suspense was revealed. Overall, I felt the emotions from the book rather vividly, and though the book was short, it left quite an impression. Definitely recommend it! . . . #books #bookreview #bookstagram #noirnovels #tbr #tbrbooks #booktography #thrillerbooks #horrorbook #bookcommunity #bookblogger #blogger #newblog #bookrecs #newbooks #tbrpile #bookblog #wewereliars #elockhart #horror #psychlogicalthriller #suspensenovels #goodbooks #bookrec #2024reads #bookworm #readathon #bookfriends #bookfollow #yabooks

Continuing on my Loren Estleman jag. After consuming the first 4 of the Amos Walker detective series (the best being Motor City Blues), I'm jumping to the "Novels of Detroit," starting with Whiskey River. Takes place in 1928, deals with bootlegging, and gangsters doing gangster s#@t. Here's hoping this series reminds me more of Estleman's standalone, Gas City, still my favorite of his works. #lorendestleman #lorenestleman #detectivenovel #detectivefiction #pulpfiction #pulpriot #noirnovels

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I can’t believe that 2023 is over but I also cannot imagine a better episode to end us off on! This week I talked to @ehallwrites about her debut novel DEAR SYLVIA, LOVE JANE. A historic noir perfect for fans of L.C. Rosen or just a good ol mysterious adventure. Erin and I talk about a lot, but of course touch upon her historical research process, her unique publishing journey and even more! . synopsis: It’s 1943, San Francisco. And Molly Malone has secrets. Between pretending to be the secretary of her own detective agency and late-night visits to her favorite gay club Whiskers (where a secret knock grants entry), Molly’s life is lived in the shadows. But when distraught housewife Sylvia seeks help from a detective, Molly’s professional and personal life begin to merge. When an up-and-coming politician reveals his plan to shutter gay clubs like Whiskers, Molly is concerned. Then when bodies start appearing, Molly needs to act fast to save her friends and loved ones-old and new-from being the next victims. Because Molly isn’t the only one with a secret… . Small Town Sins by Ken Jaworowski (@kenjaworowski) 💸 Locksburg, Pennsylvania was once thriving, but with the coal and steel jobs leaving, the remaining population have few prospects and fleeting hope. Small Town Sins focuses on three citizens. Volunteer fireman Nathan Stultz is the first on the scene of a burning house, finding a man on fire and a bag of money. He saves the man and steals the cash. Callie is a nurse at Locksburg General, a hospital with a poor reputation and few resources. She takes special interest in Gabriella, a fourteen-year-old girl with terminal cancer. Andy is a recovering addict whose life is turned upside down when tragedy strikes. 💸 The best noir writers capture a bleakness that is unsettling - the depressing, dangerous setting, characters making decisions based on desperation, and the feeling that bad things are awaiting around every corner. Ken Jaworowski nails all of this in his debut novel. The characters are compelling, their stories convincing. There is a tendency to hope for the best, but it is clear optimism left Locksburg long ago. There is dark humor and poignant observations about life along the way. It cannot be overstated how well the sincerity of the players is written here. Each storyline shines light on the dreams of the characters and their hopes for a redemptive purge of their sins. When the twist came in Nathan's story, I laughed as I would at a good punchline. I did not see it coming and it is one of the cleverest spins I have read in some time. 💸S mall Town Sins is a powerful novel. I feel as if I left a part of my heart within the pages. It is noir that well written. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🎵 Drugs and alcohol play a large role in this novel, and definitely helped inspire my playlist. What I listened to while reading Small Town Sins: Mark Lanegan – Whiskey for the Holy Ghost (this album fit perfectly with the mood) Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska (While “Thunder Road” is mentioned ,I felt the subdued feel of Nebraska more fitting) The War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream (this album brought a bit of light to the streets of Locksburg) #smalltownsins @henryholtbooks   #kenjaworski #bookreview #bookstagram #noirnovels

Book 373: "The Expendable Man," by Dorothy B. Hughes. This was NOT a "cozy mystery," this was fully classic noir. The layers of tension were skillfully handled so that, even when you think you know all the dynamics at play, you may not. Because of the subject matter - racism, abortion, police corruption - there is mature language and mature conversation. Some of the dialogue is very much contemporary to the 1950s, so that it is a little challenging to read, but worth the effort. And the writing itself is masterful. Beautiful word choices, necessary but not excessive descriptions, not too many NPCs. I had never heard of this book or author, so I didn't know what to expect. And I was impressed. 📖Book Review📖 Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (82nd book of 2023, read from 9/21-10/1/23) Rating: 3.75/5⭐️ Brief synopsis: Domingo is a 17-year-old garbage collector living in Mexico City. He is homeless and content to just mind his business, pick up trash and listen to an MP3 player that he found with a bunch of 80s songs on it. When he meets Atl, a mysterious vampire, at a subway stop, he gets entangled in her world. Domingo is taken on a journey filled with different types of vampires and blood soaked feuds between rival clans. The reader gets POVs from Domingo and Atl, as well as another vampire named Nick; Nick’s family’s familiar, Rodrigo; and a detective, Ana Aguirre, who serves as a Van Helsing-type character. My thoughts: I really liked the vibe of this book. When it comes to vibes, Silvia Moreno-Garcia truly knows how to get that atmosphere nailed down. She describes this book as a neo-noir, and this came through very clearly for me. It had a dark, gritty tone that worked for me. I also really enjoyed the blend between Aztec history and the author’s vampiric world-building and lore. At times, I did want there to be a bit more action; there were a lot of slower beats throughout. But when the action happened, the blood really flowed. If you’re looking for something different in the vampire genre, this one might be worth checking out. I read this for Hispanic Heritage Month, and I’m glad I did! Also this cover is frickin’ gorgeous! 😍 #bookstagram #bookreviews #certaindarkthings #noirnovels #vampirebooks #horror #fantasy #hispanicheritagemonth

A Flag for Sunrise, by Robert Stone. 1981, Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. New York: Alfred A. Knopf. 439 pages, deckle edged. Boards quarter bound in black paper with black cloth around the spine. 8vo. 0-394-40757-1. Very Good to Near Fine/Very Good. Robert Stone is the American Dostoyevksy—with a touch of Josph Conrad. His writing is at once muscular and soulful, searching and brutal. Like the gritty films of the 1970s, each book is a spiritual journey in the guise of a potboiler, bursting with mad outsiders grappling with the absurdities of war, death, religion, and politics. There’s no one writing books today like these. It’s unlikely they’d even be published in the current marketplace. Possessed of astonishing dramatic, emotional, and philosophical resonance, A Flag for Sunrise is a novel in the grand tradition about Americans drawn into the maelstrom of a small Central American country on the brink of revolution. It follows three characters—an anthropologist, a nun, and a psychopathic ex-Coast Guard—as they are drawn into the violent struggle taking over the fictional republic of Tecan. Book: Very Good to Near Fine. Some fading to the cloth covering the boards. Internally clean and unblemished. Spine is square and the binding is tight. A very good collectible first edition. The Big Man, by William McIlvanney. First US Edition, First Printing. 1985, HC. William Morrow: New York, NY. 8vo. Boards quarter bound in blue paper with navy around the spine; bright blue endpapers. 256 pages. 9780688064051. We’ve been known at Edgewood Books to linger on the seedier side of the stacks, where the paper is made from pulp, the settings are squalid, and the characters desperate. But we especially enjoy crime fiction with a literary bent, deep characterization, and a Celtic connection, which makes the work of late Scottish novelist William McIlvanney ideal reading. McIlvanney was a master of the hardboiled style; his Laidlaw novels are classics of the form. Pictured here is a first US edition of The Big Man from 1985. This one-off focuses on Dan Scoular, who accepts an offer from a Glasgow underworld figure to train for an illegal bare knuckle fight, hoping the money will save his marriage, but soon discovers that human decency itself is at stake. Book: Very Good to Near Fine. Spine is square, binding is tight, and interior is unblemished. Dust Jacket: Near Fine protected in archival cover. Grazie davvero a tutti i presenti. Spero che vi siate divertiti e, mio più grande augurio, che il romanzo possa piacervi al punto da farne parola con chiunque. #tempiduriperivivi deve far parlare di sé!

📚 Book review: Sojourn Ah, where do I begin? It’s been weeks since I read Sojourn, this brilliant, dark, weird 136-page novel, and I am still forming my thoughts around it. Sojourn follows an unnamed man, our narrator, who arrives in Berlin as a visiting professor. He moves along its streets and pavements; through its department stores, museums and restaurants. In his solitude in Berlin, as his visiting professorship passes, the narrator awaits transformation and meaning. In my understanding, the book is as much about our narrator and his quest as it’s about Berlin. Berlin is immense and daunting, and this book is also about him navigating the city. It’s also about the two relationships or the only two points of human contact he’s developed in Berlin: with Faqrul and Birgit. Faqrul, who randomly disappears on him as quickly as he comes back, and Birgit, after meeting whom, he begins to miss his classes. He blacks out in the street. “I’ve lost my bearings—not in the city; in its history,” he thinks. “The less sure I become of it, the more I know my way.” Sojourn is such an incredibly quiet novel, and as Hilary Mantel aptly puts it, Amit Chaudhuri has perfected the art of the moment. You find yourself lingering over sentences for minutes, trying to grasp the length and breadth of his storytelling, mesmerised at the sheer drama the book makes space for. It is weird, and it’s elegant alike. I’ve not read any of the other 8-9 books Amit Chaudhuri has written, but from what I’ve heard, his way of storytelling does not include talking about big, important issues head-on. He situates them in the every day, the usual, making their presence and exploration more daunting. In his essay ‘Why I Write Novels’, delivered at at Balliol College, Oxford University in 2020, Amit Chaudhuri says, “Today, I still wonder why I write novels. It isn’t to master an art that I have no desire to master but, evidently, to create something out of my perplexity with the form.” After having read that brilliant and weird essay, Sojourn makes more sense to me. This book is a lot of things, but what you remember is that it is haunting, noir-like book that you’ll find hard to forget.

📚 Some recent mass market pick ups: 📕 Carnival, William W. Johnstone - a classic Zebra cover 📕 Deathwatch, Robb White - two men stuck in the desert, one is a sociopath. I’m sold. 📕 Clemmie and The End of the Night, John D. MacDonald - two non-series books by the prolific crime writer. Clemmie has a great cover, and Night is about rampaging youths. 📕 The Street, Ann Petry - great edition of a classic 📕 This Is My Country Too, John A. Williams - a Black man touring white America in the 60s. 📕 The Double View, Chandler Brossard - honestly this looks and sounds great, and a guy throws himself out an asylum window on the first page 📕 Cool Hand Luke, Donn Pearce - Pearce’s more famous book (though I’ll probably read Pier Head Jump first, to be honest) 📕 Crows Can’t Count, Erle Stanley Gardner (writing as A.A. Fair) - Gardner (as Fair) is a reliable good time, and his titles are great. 📕 Black Boy, Richard Wright - another nice edition of a classic 📚📚📚 #bookhaul #bookhauls #usedbooks #bookcollector #bookcollecting #bookhunter #massmarketpaperback #massmarketpaperbacks #paperbackbooks #paperbacksfromhell #horrorbooks #horrorbookstagram #crimefiction #crimefictionbooks #noirnovels #robbwhite #annpetry #johnawilliams #chandlerbrossard #literature #coolhandluke #donnpearce #aafair #erlestanleygardner #bookcover #richardwright #bookstagram #americanliterature #fawcettgoldmedal #bookcoverart

Reading his explosive crime novels is a thrill today, so I wonder how it felt when Jean-Patrick Manchette burst onto the scene and reclaimed crime fiction for the criminals. An outspoken leftist anarchist, Manchette is at his most explicitly political in “Nada.” The story concerns a mostly unlikeable, washed-up anarchist cell who decides to kidnap an American ambassador. Unlike “Fatale” or “The Mad and the Bad” both of which start with a narrow focus and expand violently as they go, “Nada” opens wide and narrows as it goes. It’s a lot of fun the whole way through, but there’s an inevitability to the early parts of the story that twists around in the final act. . . . #jeanpatrickmanchette #noir #noirnovels #anarchistliterature #anarchistlit #nada @nyrbooks

📚 recent books, many from my friend @honkytonkdevil 📕 L.A. Requiem, Robert Crais - generic cover design aside, this sounds like great neo-noir 📕 Black Angus, Newton Thornburg - I loved Cutter and Bone, can’t wait to check this one out. And I believe @honkytonkdevil sent me this rare copy “accidentally” as part of some convoluted reverse blackmail scheme 📕 Pier Head Jump, Donn Pearce - this book by the writer of Cool Hand Luke is hard to find and, given that it’s about a bunch of sailors and an inflatable doll, I can see why 📕 Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Judith Rossner - I’m always here for books that purport to be someone’s descent to hell 📕 Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned, Kinky Friedman - he seems a little silly but the premise sounds reminiscent of Elmore Leonard 📕 Werewolves In Their Youth, Michael Chabon - a collection of short stories that I’m told is quite good. 📕 In Cold Blood, Truman Capote - I was thinking I should read this, and the very same day found this nice copy 📕 A Flag for Sunrise, Robert Stone - I loved Dog Soldiers so much I’m willing to follow Stone down some plot paths that might not interest me normally. 📕 Paco’s Story, Larry Heinemann - another great looking Vietnam novel 📚📚📚 #bookstack #bookhaul #usedbooks #bookmail #bookmailisthebestmail #crimefiction #crimefictionbooks #crimefictionaddict #noir #noirnovels #robertcrais #newtonthornburg #donnpearce #massmarketpaperback #lookingformrgoodbar #kinkyfriedman #michaelchabon #truecrime #incoldblood #trumancapote #robertstone #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #larryheinemann #pacosstory #nationalbookaward #warfiction #warnovel #shortstories

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐮𝐧.” Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review - Alison is a barrister who seems to have everything. A great job, husband, a lovely daughter and a no strings attached affair on the side. But she's not okay. Her drinking is getting bad, her marriage is falling apart and she's catching feelings. Apart from that she has an almost airtight murder case in her hand which she needs to take to court. The book started off intriguing enough but that's all. There wasn't a single character in the book I genuinely liked, especially Allison. She is not a likeable character, and seemed quite stupid for someone who's in the position she is. Next is Carl, her husband. He's the worst. A horrible person, degrading, the way he speaks down to her. I'm surprised she didn't leave the first time he said something. Patrick, the casanova was alright but towards the end of the book I didn't like him much. You'll know why if you read it. His feelings changed constantly and I couldn't understand what was going on in his head. Tbh it was hard to understand what was going on in anyone's head except for Allison's because it was only in her POV and the characters were in constant rotation. The suspense in the book was okay, not bad. I almost guessed all the suspenses midbook. I would not say that it was badly written. It was a decently well written novel and the overall plot was intriguing. But comparing the book to 'the girl on the train' was a little farfetched. I would still recommend some to read this novel, you might like the book. #psychologicalthriller #bloodorange #harriettyce #books #bookreview #bookstagram #noirnovels #thrillernovels #tbr #gift #tbrbooks #booktography #bookphotography #thrillerbooks #newtobookstagram #bookcommunity #bookblogger #blogger #newblog #bookrecs #newbooks #tbrpile #adultbooks #adultbookstagram

📚 Recent book haul with some cool finds 📕 Danger Is My Line, Stephen Marlowe - one of those crime novels you buy just based on the cover. 📕 The Bold Saboteurs, Chandler Brossard - as cool as this book looks, I found when I got home that it’s missing 8 pages 😤 📕 Eddie and the Cruisers and Gone Tomorrow, P.F. Kluge - Eddie and the Cruisers is supposed to be good and it’s fairly hard to find for some reason. 📕 Reservation Blues, Sherman Alexie - his first novel. I’ve only read his short stories. 📕 My Heart Is a Chainsaw, Stephen Graham Jones - I’ve yet to read him but Jones is one of the more popular horror novelists going at the moment, and the fact he writes a lot about Native American concerns makes him doubly interesting to me. 📕 The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien - I hadn’t thought about this Vietnam novel in a while, but @hellaheather put it back on my radar and I happened to find this signed copy last weekend! 📕 The Room, Hubert Selby Jr. - what’s purported to be the most feel good novel from this always sunny writer. 📕 The Naked and the Dead, Norman Mailer - I’ve long wanted to check Mailer out and couldn’t pass up this nice copy. 📕 Bloods: An Oral History of the Vietnam War By Black Veterans, Wallace Terry - the second recommendation by @hellaheather . 📚 In the Electric Mist With the Confederate Dead, James Lee Burke, 1993 - For you continuity nuts out there, let me start by explaining why I went from the 1st Robicheaux novel to the 6th, and caution you against doing the same: I needed something to read on the plane returning from a vacation, and had finished everything I brought. Because the Neon Rain had proven such great reading on the flight up, when I found Electric Mist for $1, I decided to grab it. So there ya go… but that said, the Robicheaux novels do have continuity, so reading this one spoiled a lot of plot points from books 2-5, which I haven’t read. I solemnly swear to read in order from now on. As for the book itself, it retained everything I liked about the Neon Rain (so real you can feel it setting, colorful and hard boiled characters, vivid, occasionally beautiful prose) and threw in a dash of dream-like magic realism in the form of confederate ghosts. It sounds outlandish (and it is), but it more or less worked in the context of the book. A movie is being filmed in Robicheaux’s small Louisiana town and the production awakens a lot of old mysteries, including a lynching, a serial killer, and more mob connections than you can shake a crutch at. It’s violent and exciting, with enough high stakes to keep the plot moving but without compromising Burke’s gift for language. Now I can’t wait to read the ones that came before and fill in the gaps. 📚📚📚 #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookpost #reader #readerlife #readersofinstagram #readerforlife #mystery #murdermystery #crimefiction #crimefictionaddict #noir #noirnovels #louisiana #americanliterature #jamesleeburke #daverobicheaux #amreading #nowreading #igbook #igbooks #igbookstagram #bookstagram #igbookreview #bookreviews #paperbackbooks #bookcover #intheelectricmistwithconfederatedead #readergram #igreads

I had to choose one book to read this weekend while kicking it by the poolside with my wife on our nineteen-year anniversary. So obviously I went for a lean, blood-drenched, hard-boiled crime novel by a french anarchist. Jean-Patrick Manchette’s “The Mad and the Bad” was the perfect choice. The language is brutal, spare, and perfect. The story explodes into motion and escalates as the bodies pile up. I chuckled a few times at the grisly and creative ways that characters met their end. My wife looked over at me lovingly, happy to see me smiling. . . . #noirnovels #anarchistliterature #jeanpatrickmanchette #themadandthebad @nyrbooks

📚 The Neon Rain, James Lee Burke - The first in the esteemed Dave Robicheaux mystery series is a strong start, set in and around New Orleans and featuring our dogged, self-destructive detective as he digs into a murder no one wants him investigating. The plot is bonkers, overstuffed, and pure fun, but Burke’s prose and psychological insight elevate this far above his peers. He can really write, and it didn’t take long to see why he’s respected in literary circles as well as by mystery lovers. It was a quick read, with stakes that escalate nearly every chapter, but seasoned nicely with Vietnam flashbacks that don’t bog it down. And, once again, its sense of place and character are impressive. All in all, this was a confident beginning to the series and a really wonderful book with an outlandish plot. Definitely recommend. 📚📚📚 #theneonrain #daverobicheaux #jamesleeburke #neworleans #louisiana #crimefiction #crimefictionbooks #crimefictionaddict #crimefictionlover #mystery #mysterybooks #noirnovels #noirfiction #noir #detectivenovel #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #reader #readerlife #readersofinstagram #readerforlife #igbookreview #igbookstagram #igreads #igreaders #amreading #nowreading #paperbackbooks

“I stood up and looked out the window. From twelve stories up it was easy to be fooled by the city’s rain-swept beauty, by the millions of lights twinkling in the night. But all I had to do was turn my head to see the truth: a child-whore asleep in her hospital bed. It could rain forever and the city would never be clean.” Happy pub date, Bleu Guitare! #frenchbookstagram #bookstagram #LAfiction #booksinfrench #noirnovels

🔎📓 “Unwarranted speculation is no better than lying, Ms. Paige. It is worse. You want to see how it’s done, here’s how it’s done: it’s better when it’s not done at all. Our job is to reinforce the Objectively So. Not conjure realities, every one of which might extend, evolve, metastasize.” 📓🔎 . . . 🔎I picked out Golden State while I was wandering through the library, pulling books off the fiction shelf at random. On the back, Jonathan Lethem (love him) gave a glowing testimonial. Lately, this has been a great way for me to find new reads. If an author I like  a tegives a testimonial, I’ll pick it up. If two authors I like give a testimonial, I’ll check it out right away, no questions asked. Anyone else like to find new reads this way?  Golden State is a sharp noir pastiche about a future wherein lies (falsehoods, untruths, etc.) are illegal and punishable by death. Our hero, a jaded detective (“speculator”) is one of only a precious handful allowed to imagine what might be instead of doubling down on what is. With all the verve and vigor of a classic crime thriller, Golden State comes complete with a rookie partner, sarcastic ex-wife, dead brother drama, cutting twists, and the ultimate reveal of a corrupt, insidious, authoritarian state built from the lies it aims to obliterate. Perfect marriage of sci-fi and noir. Love, love, love.  . . . 📓 #goldenstate #benhwinters #speculativefiction #sciencefiction #scifi #detectivedrama #crimethriller #noirnovels #dystopiannovels #dystopia #aprilreading #springreading #ilovereading #seattlebookstagram #seattlebooksta #instaread #instagramreads #seattlepubliclibrary

📚 A random selection of recent(ish) pick ups (a few of these I’ve had for months but hadn’t posted yet): 📕Wanda Hickey’s Night of Golden Memories and other disasters, Jean Shepherd - another book of stories/essays by the guy who a Christmas Story is based on. 📕Eichmann In Jerusalem, Hannah Arendt - I found this hardcover copy in the true crime section of a bookstore that was mostly skewed towards recent bestsellers so it’s always worth digging. 📕 Carpenter’s Gothic, William Gaddis - the most approachable seeming novel by Gaddis, whom I’ve yet to read. 📕Spring Hill, Tennessee and What A Book!, Tom T. Hall - two novels by the famous country songwriter. They’re actually kind of hard to find. 📕 Mao II, Don Delillo - I don’t see older Delillo books around in hardcover very often, so of course I grabbed this one. 📕 The Big Nowhere, James Ellroy - a signed hardcover copy! 📕 Humboldt’s Gift, Saul Bellow - I’m reading Augie March now and really enjoying it. 📕 Riding the Rap, Elmore Leonard - another signed Leonard! 📚📚📚 #bookhaul #bookstack #bookstagram #bookspines #hardcoverbooks #signedbooks #firsteditionbooks #usedbooks #jeanshepard #hannaharendt #williamgaddis #tomthall #dondelillo #jamesellroy #saulbellow #elmoreleonard #raylangivens #crimenovel #noir #noirnovels #nobelprize #literature #postmodernism #nashville #reportage #reader #readersofinstagram #igbookstagram #booksbooksbooks #igreaders
