📚 Books that define my taste 📚 Thanks for tagging me @jesshalfpagereads and @louloureadsalot I know I was supposed to pick 5 books, but I read so many different kind of books, that I couldn't just pick 5. Sorry! 🤍 Acts of desperation: I picked this one for multiple reasons. I love books with themes like obsession, toxic relationships and women in their 20s who are a little lost in life. I also love Irish authors and books that are relatable. Acts of desperation is all of that in 1 book 🤍 Earthlings: I love translated fiction, weird books and books that, through other themes, critique society. 🤍 Against the loveless world: Against the loveless world stands for so much that I love in a book. It's historical fiction, has a great female main character, has an important message(!!) and is set in a country I've never been to (in this case in multiple countries). I love to learn something about a culture through books. Also, this book's author, Susan Abulhawa, is amazing. I admire her so much and what she stands for 🤍 If we were villains: I love dark academia (I need more recs!) and I love a suspenseful mystery 🤍 Open water: I added this book because of the beautiful poetic writing 🤍 In the dream house: I also love nonfiction, especially memoirs. I love listening to them as an audiobook. I added In the dream house to this list because it's one of my favorite memoirs, has a very unique style and is beautifully written 🤍 The heart principe: I added this one because I love the occasional romance novel, especially if they have great representation like this one (autism) Do we have anything in common? Please let me know

happy world book day, so to celebrate here are some books that define my taste 📚🤍 since I discovered my love for books and reading my life literally changed. How did I live 21 years without knowing this passion I have for reading, I do not know, but I’m so grateful for this last years which have been so fun. These last years where I’ve lived hundreds of lives, fell in love with so many characters, related to stories, built new friendships that if it wasn’t for this I probably would have never made. what 3 books define your book taste? ✨ #worldbookday #books #booksthatdefinemytaste #fivestarbooks #romancebooks #fantasybooks #favoritebooks

✨✨Books that define my taste✨✨ Thank you so much for the tag @twinsouls_books ✨ Soooo let’s get stuck in… Memoirs - There is nothing I love more than a memoir and I always have done, and especially love them as audiobooks. I also have a real real soft spot for celebrity memoirs. I know I spend a lot of time on my page waxing lyrical about memoirs, but they are next level when they are told by the person who wrote them. Long winding family sagas - when these are done well, I absolutely love them so much. I love spending hundreds of pages getting to know a collection of characters really really well and learning why they behave the way they do. I adored Claire Lombardo’s debut novel and I cannot wait for her next! Character driven - I will take character driven over plot or vibes every single time. If anyone complains of a book where nothing happens - send it my way! I will LAP IT UP. Like any genre when it’s done badly, of course, they can be a total car crash. But when it’s good, there’s nothing better. Firm favourites; include Tomorrow x3 all Sally Rooney, The Paper Place, Mary Beth Keane’s books, The Secret History, A Gentleman in Moscow, Crawdads, Remarkably Bright Creatures - I could go on and on and on… LGBTQ+ love story - there is nothing that will get gorgeously under my skin and deep within my soul like a queer love story. Young Mungo, Bellies and In Memoriam all had me hook line sinker. A book that makes me really laugh - as much as I love a depressing and heavy going book that really makes me think and often cry - by the same token I love one that makes me laugh out loud just as much. I’ve chosen G&V for this post - its mad a box of frogs and pure chaos but it’s very funny. Also Darling 🫶🏻 I’ve tagged a few of you but no pressure 💛💛💛💛

A list of 15 books that define my taste 🫶🏻 I was inspired after watching @christireadsalot video and found myself creating a list that accurately describes my taste when it comes to romance and fantasy romance. These books consist of common trends, tropes, and themes I tend to gravitate towards when looking for a book. These themes will usually get me to pick up the book every time! ✨ Single Parent romances with funny af kids ✨ Romance with a twisty, suspenseful, wtf plot ✨ Lots of jealousy ✨ Cheating (yeah I said what I said) ✨ Grumpy/Sunshine ✨ Emotional Damage (bring all the tears) ✨ Music sprinkled throughout the story ✨ Non-traditional endings to romance books ✨ REVENGE ✨ Badass, sarcastic female main characters Drop some books in the comments that define your taste so I can add them to my TBR or let me know if we have any in common! ——— #booksthatdefinemytaste #favoriteromancetropes #favoritebooks #romancereader #romancereadersofinstagram #15booksthatdefinemytaste #booksbooksbooks #fantasyromancebooks #romancebookrecs #romancebookaddict #bookstagrammer #bookgraphic #favoritetropes

📚 #BooksThatDefineMyTaste 📚 While compiling this list, I realized that the five star books I've read over the past few years have come from a wide variety of genres but they share a few things in common. Whether they're romances or memoirs, I tend to enjoy tales of personal growth set in isolated places. I'm a big fan of stories where the setting is a character in itself. I also have a keen interest in feminist micro-histories. Do we share any interests? If so, I'd love to hear your recommendations! #15booksthatdefinemytaste #bookstagrammer #booksta #canadianbookstagram #yegbookstagrammers #romancebookstagram #romancereader #bookstagramchallenge #bookstagramchallenges #bookstagramtag

🌻Books That Define My Reading Taste🌻 I had been seeing so many posts about this, so I decided to do some of mine. My favorite genres have always been romance, fantasy and thrillers. I haven’t been reading many thrillers, so I decided not to include any in these lists. For romance it doesn’t take much for me to love the book. I love my romances dark, angsty and emotional. These are just some my favorites out of many. Fantasy has always been so fun to read about, just visiting the different worlds always has me intrigued. The book The Great Alone opened up the historical fiction genre for me. I loved it so much that I’m looking for books just like it. Do you see some of your favorite books on this lists? Which books define your reading taste? Have you made this post? I would love to know. #booksthatdefinemytaste #books #romance #fantasy #favoritebooks

⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡ books that define my taste ᡣ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶𐭩 ♡ I am a sensitive girl at heart. I’m emotional, I feel, and when I feel, I feel deeply. When I’m reading, I love books that make me feel, that bring emotion out of me, whether that’s love, heartache, sadness, or joy. The books that I thought of when thinking about what defines my taste are books that had me feeling or made me emotional. It could be stories that had me sobbing uncontrollably at 12am or a romance that had me smiling from ear to ear, giggling and kicking my feet the entire time! I love feeling and feeling deeply. I find that I connect with books and characters more when I can feel for their experiences, stories, and emotions. So because of that, as well as the fact that I just enjoy books that are similar to the ones shown (I enjoyed every second reading these and love anything that’s similar to them), I find that these books and series as of late best encapsulate my taste (∩˃o˂∩)♡ 💌 the Hunger Games trilogy - Suzanne Collins 💌 The Seven Year Skip - Ashley Poston 💌 the Letters of Enchantment Duology - Rebecca Ross 💌 the Folk of the Air series - Holly Black 💌 the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy - Stephanie Garber 💌 The Consequences of Falling - Liliana Rose Hastings 💌 You’ve Reached Sam - Dustin Thao 💌 Powerless - Lauren Roberts 💌 Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarros 💌 Love on the Brain - Ali Hazelwood 💌 Forget Me Not - Julie Solo 💌 the ACOTAR series Do we have any in common? 🫶🏼 . . . . #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta #bookish #bookishthings #bookishthoughts #bookishpost #bookishphotography #bookishaccount #bookblogger #bookblog #booksthatdefineme #booksthatdefinemytaste #reader #readersofinstagram #readersofig #readersofinsta #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #bookrecommendation

10 books to define my taste 🩵🌷☁️🏹 i’ve seen this little trend go around and i thought since i have quite a few new people following me, i’d share my holy-grail-bury-me-with-them-because-i-can’t-live-without-them books 👼🏼 this was harder than i expected, i love so many books, but these are top tier, 6 star reads and they have a special spot in my heart. i think about these books daily and would do anything to read them again for the first time 🥹 books mentioned: — Reckless by @authorelsiesilver — Out on a Limb by @authorhannahby — Love, Theoretically by @alihazelwood — Book Lovers by @emilyhenrywrites — You, With a View by @jessicajoycewrites — Kingdom of Ash by @sarahjmaas — The Seven Year Slip by @heyashposton — Daughter of No Worlds by @carissabroadbentbooks — Once Upon a Broken Heart by @stephanie_garber — Divine Rivals by @beccajross I want to mention that also pretty much any book written by any of these authors is included in this list by default and so are the entire series of the books mentioned 😗 Some honourable mentions (because if you haven’t noticed i have a hard time not mentioning every single book i loved 😀) go to Powerless by @laurenrobertslibrary , Business Casual by @authorbkborison and Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez 🫶🏼

📚 My Waterstones Display 📚 Forever inspired by my gal Sarah @apageofwordsandwishes who posted recently about her *actual* Waterstones display, I thought it would be a fun challenge idea to show what would be featured on our Waterstones displays (ours being mine, and yours!) This was impossible to narrow down and please believe that I nearly took a pic of 20 books, but managed to get it down to 10 with some cruel cutting. My Waterstones display would simply have to have the following: 🎸 Daisy Jones & The Six – My favourite of the TJR collection I think (sorry Carrie) and just an incredible, fun, heartbreaking, music-filled story 🎪 The Night Circus – Though not for everyone, this is the book for adults who still believe in magic! 🏹 The Hunger Games – One of my favourite all-time series, I could read these books again, and again, and again. And when I’ve exhausted that, I’ll watch the films 🌹 A Court of Thorns and Roses – Just read ALL SJM books. 🐴 Black Beauty – My childhood favourite and the best of all the classics IMO 🎵 Drive – and Reverse. I will continue to talk about these books until the end of time. 🌸 Magnolia Parks – Not for everyone, but absolutely for me. It’s the drama Mick, I love it! 📖 The Binding – MORE MAGIC FOR GROWN UPS 🐉 Fourth Wing – Dragons and Xaden. My book of 2023. 💙 The Song of Achilles – You’ll believe in love once you’ve read this book! Tagged a few of you to share your #waterstonesdisplay 😍 #favouritebooks #booksthatdefinemytaste #thesongofachilles #thenightcircus #thehungergames #thebinding #daisyjonesandthesix #magnoliaparks #acourtofthornsandroses #fourthwing #mustread #mustreadbooks #favouritereads #blackbeauty #bookworm #bookishlygang

Five fictional books (read in 2023) that define my taste 🤌 👑 Memorial by Bryan Washington for the powerful dual perspective and the intricate interrelationships we have to and/or choose to take part in 👑 My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell for the delicate storytelling without compromise and the stunningly crafted narration of traumatic and haunting past experiences that hold on as time goes on. For showing how the past can weight unbearably heavy (known, ignored or mistrusted) and leave scars that are then carried differently and individually 👑 Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami for the nuanced and confronting commentary on motherhood through multiple perspectives as well as the portrayal of the single life of a wannabe writer 👑 Tin Man by Sarah Winman for the strong and quiet beauty of friendship and love in all its forms - and for taking the reader gently by the hand on a journey that is both emotional and physical in years, distances and personal growth 👑 Whereabouts by Jhumpa Lahiri* for the exceptionally immersive journaling/vignette-y style of narration from the perspective of a “fully grown” woman feeling and contemplating the downplayed, quiet frustration of socially imposed expectations and obligations. For being about solitude (chosen or otherwise) and about stagnating in the dull/comfort of mundanity and routine *not pictured: a library book *** #reading #bookstagram #bookish #bookishdelights #thestorygraph #fortheloveofbooks #bookrecs #booknerdandproudlyso #bookreview #bookcollection #booksthatdefinemytaste #mytasteinbooks #2023reads

What are 5 books you feel define your taste in books? 📚 I read a lot of different fantasy and romance books but if I had to narrow it down to my core 5 go tos, these would be it! 🥰 I will always love a good romantasy with political intrigue (A Fate of Wrath and Flame) or a romantasy with character development and emotional healing (ACOSF) ✨ Romance wise, STEM-inspired ones have snuck their way into my heart and Love Theoretically is just sublime 👩‍🔬🧪at the same time, if I need to relax for a couple of hours, hockey romance will always be my guilty pleasure reading (Right Man, Right Time) 🏑 And then there are the books that just blow you off your feet and which you will never stop recommending - The People on Platform 5 is that book for me 🥰 💬 What are some of the books that define your taste? 🥰 #fantasy #romance #bookstagram #booksthatchangedmylife #booksthatdefinemytaste

Haaste: kirjamaku 10 kirjassa. Historiaa, naisten kohtaloita, mysteeri. Need I say more? 🧡Maresi, Maria Turtschaninoff. Vahvoja naisia maagisessa maailmassa löytämässä omat tiensä. 🧡Harry Potterit. 😄 #kirjagramsuomi #lempikirjani #kirjojakirjojakirjoja #booksbooksandmorebooks #booksthatdefinemytaste

BOOKS THAT DEFINE MY READING - PART 3 I am a sucker for lyrical writing, and who does it best, but Caleb Azumah Nelson! These books are so beautiful written that they read like a poem, a song, or a symphony! I love the way the author uses lyrical prose to weave together such profound feelings and explore important themes. He's a new auto-buy author for me, and I'm eagerly anticipating what story he composes us next. Have you read Open Water or Small Worlds? What were your thoughts?

BOOKS THAT DEFINE MY READING - PART 2 Recently, there has been a surge in books marked as dark academia, and I have fallen victim to it thanks to If We Were Villians by M.L. Rio. If We Were Villians is hauntingly beautiful. Uniquely and well written, right down to its climatically painful ending. Simply amazing! And as you can see, since then, my dark academia shelf has only grown! Have you read any of these? What do you think of the dark academia sub-genre?

I might aim for 100 or 150 books, haven’t decided yet ☺️ 📖What books do you want to read in the next year? So I’m hoping to be active on TikTok as well now Try to re-read books I’ve enjoyed when I get into a slump as I’ve heard that helps! Non-bookish- Focus more on my mental health and well-being. Take a break after my internship is up in Feb Explore new places within London and beyond I’ve had many ups and downs this year but using bookstagram as a creative outlet has been really enjoyable for me. My goal was to be more active on here and I’m glad I have been because I’ve discovered so many new authors and bonded with readers. Thank you to everyone that has interacted with me & a special thank you to those who listen to all of my long ass VNs😂 Tagging a few people to take part (no pressure though) but if you see this consider yourself tagged! 🤍

5 books that define my taste ✨ Wow this challenge was harder than I thought it would be, narrowing down those five books was tough! Here it goes: ✨ Tomorrow x 3 - oh I love a literary fiction book that tugs on my heart strings. When characters are crafted to absolute perfection that you know will stay with you for years 🤌🤌🤌 ✨ The Great Alone - historical fiction that spans a characters life? YES PLS. And when it hits me with the emotions. Aghhhh I loved this book so much 🥺🥺🥺 ✨ The One - the best thriller I have ever read. And it was combined with romance too! I loved that. I love a thriller when it’s done right with all the twists and turns. ✨ Every Summer After - romance 💕 my favourite genre. But an emotional romance with the friends to lovers trope? Inject it into my veins. ✨ Maybe in Another Life - reflective literary fiction with some love thrown in. I adored this book and it’s alternate realities theme, exploring all the ‘what ifs?’ of life. Also it’s a TJR book so you know?? How could I not love it? If your seeing this post, consider yourself tagged! 5 BOOKS So, here’s my 5 books that define my taste. Thanks so much to @jess_lovesreading and @the_sara_post for tagging me this fun challenge. My book choices featured and reasons why are below, and I’ve included a cheeky pic as I feel like I’ve not shown my face for ages! The Summer That Changed Us - Cathy Bramley I am a big fan of chick lit and rom cons, they are my go to comfort reads. I especially love ones that feature strong friendships too. Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover. I am a fan girl of certain authors and love reading and collecting their books. When I was younger it was authors like James Patterson and Stephen King. More recent author obsessions are Colleen Hoover and Taylor James Reid. Before my actual heart breaks - Tish Delaney I have become a bit of a fan of books that are really character driven, and especially those that absolutely break me. Hard reads, but simply beautiful writing. I just have to be in the right mind space for them. Every Summer After - Charley Fortune I am weak and suffer from terrible FOMO with hyped up books that seem to take up my feed, especially the romance ones. I can’t resist them. The Nightingale - Kristin Hannah This is the surprise one. I’ve discovered a bit of love for historical fiction over the last 12 months. It’s not my go to genre, but when I do decide it’s the right time to pick one up, I really enjoy them. I know the challenge is 5 books, but I can’t define my taste without mentioning memoirs. I love listening to a memoir on my daily commute to and from work. Do we have similar tastes? Or do you have any recommendations for me based on these books? Tagged a few to join in with this one if they fancy. ❤️ #fivebooks #definemytaste #mytasteinbooks #booksthatdefineme #booksthatdefinemytaste #cathybramley #coho #colleenhoover #carleyfortune #kristinhannah #tishdelaney #beforemyactualheartbreaks #uglylove #thenightingale #everysummerafter #thesummerthatchangedus #bookstack #booksonmyhead #booksonmyheadchallenge #book #books #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #bookstagrammer #bookishfun #bookishlove #booklove

🖐🏽5 books that define my taste🖐🏽 hi hello happy friday! i can’t remember where i saw this challenge or if i was ever tagged in it but i’m doing it anyway lol here are the five books that best define my taste (this was rly hard lol) black cake: i love a multigenerational family saga! they’re always so emotional & heartfelt & i will always go hard for them ❤️‍🔥 disorientation: literary fiction that makes you think!! this is why i read!! i love getting different perspectives on social injustice & learning more about other people’s experiences 🥹 (p.s. this one gets bonus points for being #OwnVoices with asian rep) (p.p.s. if you haven’t heard, this is my favorite book of the year so far hehe) once there were wolves: nature fiction/nonfiction always pack an extra punch for me. i love books with animals because there’s always a hidden lesson on human nature in there somewhere 🌤 hamnet: historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, but especially hist fic set in europe because the history is so rich (bonus points if it’s shakespearean in any way 🥰) one of my most anticipated reads of the year is o’farrell’s upcoming release, the marriage portrait, which is about the start of the medici family! the atlas six: and finally—if you’ve been around here long enough, you know i am one of the biggest fantasy lovers around. any type of fantasy, i’ll read but i chose this one because it’s also dark academia which is the cherry on top of my book tastes 😍 what would your books be? tagging some friends but as always, please join in on the fun! 🫶🏼

Qotd: what books define you? A while back @sunflowers.and.pomegranates tagged me in the #fivebooksthatdefineyou tag and I loved the idea so here's mine!! It's been difficult to narrow down the list to only 5 books, but I'm happy with what I put on here and feel this post summarize pretty well my reading taste 🤎📚 As usual I tagged a few friends who might want do this as well (no pressure!) But if you see this and wanna try, feel free 💕

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞... I've seen this one floating around bookstagram lately and felt inspired to do my own! Time to share about the particular genres/types of books that I always gravitate to 😍 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 - smutty adult fantasy. Need I say more? 😏 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 - horror in general but if it genuinely scares me or is so messed up that I find myself cringing away from the book, then it's a winner. There are scenes in these short stories that are permanently burnt into my brain 😵 time for a re-read soon! 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 - a perfect example of SF where research or knowledge and experience of the field goes into its creation, but uses terminology that makes it accessible to the everyday reader. If the concept is made up but actually plausible, it gets triple points 🤩 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻 & 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻'𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 - adventurous fantasy with loveable characters that you instantly bond with. You become invested in their lives and their journey and when anything happens to them, you feel it in your soul 🥺 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 - thrillers that keep you on edge with a twist that has you questioning absolutely everything. I still think about this one 😮 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚏𝚊𝚟𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎 𝚐𝚎𝚗𝚛𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚔? Tagging some pals to have a go 😊 x

5 books that define my taste 📝🔖💌 how can loss change you? can you change yourself, even if you’re given all the time in the world to do it? if you could go back in time and change something, what would you change? as the saying goes, change is the only constant (very clearly in my reading preferences as you can see). the most common denominator of what i prefer to read - and so, that which defines my taste - is ‘change’ with a lil bit of speculation. other things of note that aren’t as pretentiously phrased as the last para but just as important: • unhinged women doing unhinged things & getting away with them! gotta live my life vicariously through someone SOMEHOW (just say you like ottessa moshfegh and leave gosh) • the exploration of sadness & grief (not pictured: a little life) • literary fiction with a touch of magical realism, courtesy of my recent reads ‘life ceremony’ & ‘nightbitch’ • morally grey characters that make me question my sanity sometimes • in the same wavelength, i LOVE character-driven works • i like reading essays? sometimes? it’s like a very hit or miss for me, but the one pictured is ‘the decay of lying’ by oscar wilde and it’s there bec it’s by him and for no other reason 🤭 • just as i love experimenting w my taste, i’m a big fan of experimental fiction — OKAY i’m done, tysm @alkemi.reads for this tag that allowed me to reflect a little on my taste (which i’ve previously only thought of using words synonymous with ‘sad’ & ‘dark’). i realise i’m only doing tags these days & no reviews but that’s just cuz i really don’t have reviews worth becoming ig captions 🥹 i love writing long reviews - using the word count to its fullest in general - so when i can’t achieve that, i don’t think it’s worth posting abt 🫣 that might change in the upcoming weeks BUT until then, y’all are gonna have to bear w the short reviews on my stories + quotes for each book 📕 — hope everyone’s weekend went well! 🫶🏼

🖐🏼 BOOKS THAT DEFINE MY TASTE Thank you so much to my friend @maddies.reads for the tag and inspiration! It was so fun to pick out these books 💕 🧛‍♀️ TABCGTSV - I love horror/ghost stories, especially in the fall and this one takes the cake for me. I feel like it’s near perfection. 🌊 EVERY SUMMER AFTER - I love a feel-good, coming of age, friends to lovers, young love, second chance romance. This book is all of that and then some. 🌞 THE PEOPLE WE KEEP - I love slice of life, contemporary/literary fiction. I still think about this book to this day. 🌅 THE GREAT ALONE - Historical fiction has really become one of my favorite genres and it doesn’t get much better than this. In my eyes Kristin Hannah does no wrong. 🪨 ROCK PAPER SCISSORS - one of the most shocking thrillers I’ve ever read. When a thriller is this twisty, turny, and atmospheric it’s automatically 5 stars for me. If you’ve followed my page for awhile, do you think these books define my taste? Do we have any of the same?

It’s my one year #Bookstaversary! 🎉🍾 🥳 To celebrate, I’m sharing a stack of #BooksThatDefineMyTaste! ▫️The Magicians: People going about their normal lives until they discover a fantasy world hidden beneath their noses; potentially combined with a secret magical school. (See also: Harry Potter, Abarat, Chronicles of Narnia, and Wrinkle in Time) ▫️Bringing Down the Duke: Historical feminism, insert either romance or witches. Fine with either. Prefer both. (See also: Once and Future Witches, Lessons in Chemistry, and Witches of New York) ▫️The Night Circus: Wondrous magic + some kind of competition/game/curse with high stakes. Bonus points for a dark romance or falling in love with the enemy. (See also: Caraval, Six of Crows, Addie LaRue, and Ladies of the Secret Circus) ▫️A Gentleman In Moscow: Historical fiction with richly imagined characters and writing that speaks to general truths about humankind. (See also: Mademoiselle Chanel, Hearts Invisible Furies, The Paris Hours, and Book of Longings) ▫️The Belgariad: Epic high fantasy with political intrigue, good vs. evil, possible “chosen one” narrative. (See also: Phèdre’s Trilogy, LoTR, and GoT) ▫️The Forgotten Garden: Mysteries set in small towns in England. Could either be “whodunnits” or more sprawling family dramas. Bonus points for castles, or at least pretentiously named estates. (See also: Rebecca and anything Agatha Christie) ▫️The 10,000 Doors of January: Books (or maps) are magic. (See also: Inkheart, The Cartographers, The Great Library series, and Shadow of the Wind) ▫️Spinning Silver: Myth or fairy tale retellings. (See also: Circe, House of Salt and Sorrows, and anything Rick Riordan) ▫️A Discovery of Witches: Dark academia, preferably with a paranormal element of some sort. (See also: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, The Historian, and The Secret History) ▫️The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.: Creative use of time travel, regardless of genre. (See also: Evelyn Hardcastle, Outlander, and A Witch In Time) ▫️Edward Trencom’s Nose: Quirky, fun, whimsical, and/or off-the-wall shit! (See also: Axious People, Piranesi, City of Dreaming Books, and Alice in Wonderland) Cheers to another year! 🥂
