📚 Books that define my taste 📚 Thanks for tagging me @jesshalfpagereads and @louloureadsalot I know I was supposed to pick 5 books, but I read so many different kind of books, that I couldn't just pick 5. Sorry! 🤍 Acts of desperation: I picked this one for multiple reasons. I love books with themes like obsession, toxic relationships and women in their 20s who are a little lost in life. I also love Irish authors and books that are relatable. Acts of desperation is all of that in 1 book 🤍 Earthlings: I love translated fiction, weird books and books that, through other themes, critique society. 🤍 Against the loveless world: Against the loveless world stands for so much that I love in a book. It's historical fiction, has a great female main character, has an important message(!!) and is set in a country I've never been to (in this case in multiple countries). I love to learn something about a culture through books. Also, this book's author, Susan Abulhawa, is amazing. I admire her so much and what she stands for 🤍 If we were villains: I love dark academia (I need more recs!) and I love a suspenseful mystery 🤍 Open water: I added this book because of the beautiful poetic writing 🤍 In the dream house: I also love nonfiction, especially memoirs. I love listening to them as an audiobook. I added In the dream house to this list because it's one of my favorite memoirs, has a very unique style and is beautifully written 🤍 The heart principe: I added this one because I love the occasional romance novel, especially if they have great representation like this one (autism) Do we have anything in common? This was actually really hard because I read a lot of things that kind of merged together, but I think I've made some definitive choices that reflect my reading choices.. I'm going to start with a Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St Clair. I love this series! It incorporates my all-time favouite ancient gods, Hades and Persephone. With a mix of Greek mythology, smut, a dash of darkness and sprinkle of some of my favourite troupes and a lot of banter and sass as the cherry on top. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas I'm using to represent, not only my love for this series, its charaters, the SJM universe but also the classic fantasy adventure where the whole world is going to shit and a band of misfit rebels are the only ones brave or dumb enough to fix it. The adventure, magic, found family, just 🖤🖤🖤 Icebreaker by Hannah Grace represents my love for a good rom com. For those times, you need a comfort read that feels like a warm hug on a cold day, with a dash of smut to make ot that extra spicy Does It Hurt? By H.D. Carlton represents my new love for dark romance. Turns out I don't have triggers, and the darker the better, and well, let's just leave it at that. Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber represents the other side to dark romance. It's magical and whimsical, and sometimes that's what you need to not grow up. 🌸 5 books that define my taste 🌸 A while ago I was tagged by @lizzyy.reads and @myyearofbooksandreading to do this challenge. Thanks girls 💕 These are not my five favorite books, but these are the books that together represent my taste the most. 💗 Daisy Jones and the six I picked Daisy Jones, because it is contemporary fiction, but also because I love the 70s and I love music. And because Taylor Jenkins Reid's books are almost it's own genre and I love them all so far. 💗 Earthlings Earthlings definitely needs to be here. It not only stands for the dark and strange books that I enjoy, but also for Japanese fiction (and Sayaka Murata), which I love. It's also a book that critiques society. 💗 Conversations with friends This is on here because it's literary fiction and it's about a girl in her twenties struggling in life and with love. It is also very relatable and I love books that I relate to. While making this list I was struggling to pick a book for this spot. It was between Acts of desperation and Conversations with friends. 💗 I who have never known men Translated fiction and dystopian? That sounds right up my alley! This book is amazing and deserves much more love. 💗 Jane Eyre I enjoy reading a good classic every now and then and Jane Eyre has a strong female character, which I like (and I think every book on this list has one or more). 5 BOOKS So, here’s my 5 books that define my taste. Thanks so much to @jess_lovesreading and @the_sara_post for tagging me this fun challenge. My book choices featured and reasons why are below, and I’ve included a cheeky pic as I feel like I’ve not shown my face for ages! The Summer That Changed Us - Cathy Bramley I am a big fan of chick lit and rom cons, they are my go to comfort reads. I especially love ones that feature strong friendships too. Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover. I am a fan girl of certain authors and love reading and collecting their books. When I was younger it was authors like James Patterson and Stephen King. More recent author obsessions are Colleen Hoover and Taylor James Reid. Before my actual heart breaks - Tish Delaney I have become a bit of a fan of books that are really character driven, and especially those that absolutely break me. Hard reads, but simply beautiful writing. I just have to be in the right mind space for them. Every Summer After - Charley Fortune I am weak and suffer from terrible FOMO with hyped up books that seem to take up my feed, especially the romance ones. I can’t resist them. The Nightingale - Kristin Hannah This is the surprise one. I’ve discovered a bit of love for historical fiction over the last 12 months. It’s not my go to genre, but when I do decide it’s the right time to pick one up, I really enjoy them. I know the challenge is 5 books, but I can’t define my taste without mentioning memoirs. ✨5 books that define my taste✨ Thank you for the tag @haleys_next_book and @itsjessreading 💕 This was tough, I won’t lie. These are definitely books I loved and hopefully these explain my taste in books well. 🫶🏻Betty - Oh my word I still think about this book all the time and seriously considering a reread. I love a sad book, this is one of them but also beautifully written. 🫶🏻The Whisper Man - I’m a thriller girl for sure and this one gave me all the chills. I just love a fast paced crime thriller that keeps me guessing 🫶🏻After I Do - I think TJR is essentially a defining taste right?! This isn’t my fave TJR but I do enjoy reading a romance now and again and I have to say I prefer the messy, no cliche or cheesy style ones and this was just that. I want raw, honest romance stories in my life. 🫶🏻Wild - I do love a memoir especially when they’re on audiobook and narrated by the author. This one is special to me, I read it in a time of my life when my world was falling apart and I found it very comforting and relatable. 🫶🏻The Kite Runner - I love an historical fiction and especially when I feel that I have learnt something about different countries and cultures and this book was no exception. 💭Have you read and enjoyed any of these books? ✨define your taste in five books✨ the wonderful @bookishdinostar tagged me in this challenge, which i absolutely loved but which, being indecisive to a fault, is also my worst nightmare! trying to whittle down all the books i love to only five…?! so this is where i got to. i didn’t think strategically to represent different genres or themes: they’re basically just five absolute all time favourites. ✨the road by cormac mccarthy - bleakly flawless, or flawlessly bleak. the prose here is stunning, and this dystopia is a perfect balance of human cruelty and human hope. ✨jane eyre by charlotte brontë - of course. my favourite classic, and one of my favourite characters. this book just gives and gives, and every time i come back to it the writing just blows me away. ✨a little life by hanya yanagihara - need i say more? this one defies description. harrowing beyond belief but just so unbelievably poetic and beautiful despite it all. the characters here will stay with me forever. ✨sorrow and bliss by meg mason - women and mental health and two big favourite topics for me, and this does both impeccably. i also adored the levity within the tragedy. gorgeous. ✨tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow by gabrielle zevin - hot off the press! this one has shot straight into my all time favourites. the writing 👏 the characters 👏 the structure 👏 the emotion 👏 perfection! honourable mentions: the great gatsby, great circle, transcendent kingdom, the secret history, the handmaid’s tale, we are okay, the picture of dorian gray… basically too many to ever mention! i’ve tagged some pals to have a go at this almost impossible task, but just join in if you fancy it 💖 would any of these make it onto your list? what have i missed? 👀 tell me in the comments 🤗 🏷 #mytasteinbooks #defineyourbookishtaste #defineyourtaste #fivefavourites #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #books #bookstagram #bibliophile #booklover #bookstagramuk
✨5 books that define my taste✨ ok this was so hard! it’s taken me almost a week trying to decide on just 5 books that define my taste. after asking my sister to come help me decide, I settled on these gems. •Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie •Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen •The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett •The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle •Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo when trying to describe my taste in books the first word that comes to mind is: classic. you know those books (most likely written by Jane Austen) that are period pieces about longing, and feelings, and the desperation to just be okay. those books that wrap you up in a story about sorrow and triumph, heartache and rejoicing, sadness and joy. those books that make you feel like you’re inside the story. those books that make you look up from what you’re reading and stare at the wall for much longer than you need to. books that make you feel something. books that keep you guessing until the final pages. books that make you feel like a kid again. books that feel like a rainy day and a cup of coffee. each of the books I listed are like that for me. my taste can be summed up like this: classical romance, mystery of any kind, the occasional fantasy (extra points for found family), and a good childrens book because reading as a child was so instrumental for who I am today. thank you @stuslibrary for the tag. this has been really fun! to everyone tagged, i can’t wait to see what books define your taste! ❤️ #books #authors #agathachristie #janeausten #francesdodgsonburnett #arthurconandoyle #leighbardugo #bookshelf #bookstack #bookstore #reading #reader #summerreading #authorspotlight #mystery #fiction #crime #bookstagram #booknerd #novels #reviews #bookreview #mytasteinbooks

Today I am sharing 5 of the most gripping autobiographies and memoirs that I have read. In no particular order: 1) LAB GIRL by Hope Jahren. 2) LONG WALK TO FREEDOM by Nelson Mandela 3) THE GLASS CASTLE by Jeannette Walls 4) WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR by Paul Kalanithi 5) EDUCATED by Tara Westover ... These books have all stayed with me long after I have finished reading, and made a lasting impact (The Glass Castle was actually on my previous book-related post too, because it is one of my overall fave reads). It snowed in Michigan this morning, so #tbt to the Fall book photo shoot I did the other week 🙃🍂💕 I love this photo because I feel like whenever you take a stack of books out it's an opportunity to see encapsulated what your taste and reading life looks like in that moment. This picture gets me pretty well - speculative fiction is my always favorite, nonfiction has been an aim this year which I lean into most through memoir, and lately I've been tackling some of my longtime TBR Russian classics.
