📚The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie📚 I’m loving that the #readchristie2024 challenge is taking me on a chronological read of some well loved Christie mysteries. In March we were still in the 1920s and I went with the recommended read of The Mystery of the Blue Train. It is a classic Poirot, with a touch of international glamour. The elegant Blue Train, on its way to the French Riviera, is the setting for the murder of wealthy American, Ruth Kettering. The suspects include an American millionaire, an exotic dancer, an international jewel thief and a mysterious marquis. In contrast, Poirot is ably assisted by fellow passenger and English woman, Katherine Grey. Solid and sensible (but beautiful, of course), Katherine has been living as a companion to a woman in St Mary Mead no less. Fans of Christie immediately know that we are into Miss Marple territory, although she sadly doesn’t make an appearance as the first Marple doesn’t appear until the next decade. The Mystery of the Blue Train was apparently written at the lowest point in Christie’s life as she decamped to Tenerife with her daughter after her infamous disappearance and separation from her husband. She hated writing it, being driven by the desire to write another book to make money, and it brought her no joy. In her Notebooks she says: “Really, how that wretched book came to be written I don’t know.” I’m sorry there was no joy in the writing, but there has been plenty of joy in its reading. It was great fun! #themysteryofthebluetrain #agathachristie #readchristie #herculepoirot #christiemystery #crimefiction #detectivefiction #mystery #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #goldenageofcrime #books #fiction #vintagefiction #murdermonday #mondaymystery #booksandflowers #mysterybook #goldenageofcrimemystery #harpereditions

I recently finished The Mystery of the Blue Train and thought it was absolutely delightful. I really haven’t read many of the third person pov Poirot books and I found the difference to be quite refreshing. This book has joined The Pale Horse, Crooked House, And Then There Were None, and Roger Ackroyd for my favorite Christie books so far. This is my third read for the #readchristie challenge from @officialagathachristie #readagathachristie #readchristie2024 #themysteryofthebluetrain #readagathachristie2024 #christiemystery #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #agathachristiespoirot

🔎 WHAT THIS WEEK 🔎 Wow, what a busy weekend and we’re not even home yet! We’ve been up in London to see the Mousetrap (which was incredible - highly recommend), had a night in a hotel & today toured the spurs stadium (Charlie’s a fan, I just tagged along) and some bookshops… haul incoming at some point! 🥰 As a big Christie fan, the mousetrap was an absolute joy to watch and definitely kept me guessing! It was so good and definitely worth a watch. The theatre is so traditional and old fashioned which made it feel like we’d stepped back in time. 💜 The mystery on the blue train is going to be my next Christie pick for #ReadChristie2024 and is a reread of one I haven’t read in years - and was one of the first Christie’s I read ☺️ 🍃 QUESTION: how has your weekend been? 🍃 (ID: first picture is the mystery on the blue train in front of the mousetrap theatre sign).

📚The Secret Adversary – Agatha Christie📚 February’s pick for #readchristie2024 was the second of her novels to be published, and our introduction to Tommy and Tuppence. It’s a different feel from what you might think of as a classic Christie mystery. The Secret Adversary is much more of a spy adventure, although there’s a strong detective element and a great denouement. The Great War is over and demobilised soldier, Tommy Beresford, reunites with his childhood friend, Prudence ‘Tuppence’ Cowley. Restless and jobless they form ‘The Young Adventurers Ltd’ which has a client before they even advertise their services, the mysterious Mr Whittington. They quickly find themselves in danger and their new friends include an MP, the secret service and an American millionaire in search of his cousin. Tommy’s logic, Tuppence’s imagination, and their combined dare-devilry sees them chasing clues across the country, adopting disguises and narrowly avoiding death on several occasions. Having previously only met Tommy and Tuppence in their latter years, it was great to share with them in this energetic adventure and see the development of their relationship and careers. As ever, this was well plotted, and these characters offered more amusing dialogue and thrilling escapades than the, by comparison, sedate Marple and Poirot. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read that has reignited my interest in Christie’s other novels about the pair. The only mystery I couldn’t fathom was the cover of this edition. If anyone can explain the bear to me I’d be very happy! #thesecretadversary #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #readchristie #tommyandtuppence #christiemystery #crimefiction #detectivefiction #mystery #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagramuk #goldenageofcrime #books #fiction #vintagefiction

Book 2 of the new year 🥳. And interestingly enough this falls under the 1960s part of this year's Read Christie challenge. I loved Sleeping Murder. In fact it's my favourite Christie mystery together with Evil Under the Sun. People love to hype Orient Express and And Then There Were None as the creme de la creme but not for me. Sleeping Murder isn't vintage Christie, it's better. An underrated priceless jewel in her collection. Its murder in retrospect. A young Antipodean woman sets foot on English soil for the first time but why does her new home feel so familiar? Why does she know what the house looked like almost two decades ago? And why does she know a woman was strangled there? So here begins the best Miss Marple outing written with such beauty, darkness, intelligence and horror, a psychological trail that gives credence to the Christie saying, "Old sins cast long shadows." #agathachristie #sleepingmurder #missmarple #readchristie2024 #bookstagram #flatlay #bookflatlay #christiemystery #mysterynovel #bookstagrammer #readingismagic #readmore2024

Midwinter M*rder by Agatha Christie Book 1 of 2024 Its the middle of winter, you walk up to the library to find this book from your favorite author.. what better way to start the New Year? This book is a collection of short stories written by Christie at different times. It features popular characters such as Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, Mr Quin and Satterthwaite, Mr. Parker Pyne etc. Its quite fascinating to read her short stories, as they have the typical story telling and revelations as her long format, the characters stick to their usual personalities, so you get to have the full experience within just about 20 pages. As always, after every short story I had a moment "wow", it wouldn't be Christie otherwise! My only complaint is.. why just two of Miss Marple's stories?? I want more of her!! Great start to 2024, I hope I have a good reading year and you guys too! Do you have any fun plans this week? I get to go to book group this week, which is always my favorite part of the month! 🔍 I recently listened to And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and boy was it a doozy. Christie is the queen of mystery for a reason, and this one is definitely one of her best. Ten strangers are summoned to a private island and then begin to be murdered one at a time. 📚📚📚Review📚📚📚 So, I wasn't even aware of this Agatha Christie book before the official readchristie2023 challenge. This is her only book set in the (way) past at around 2000 BC in Egypt (which is a bit more common for Ms. Christie.) This book revolves around a family – the patriarch being a widower named Imhotep's who brings a concubine (named Nofret) home from his travels. She is not kind to those in the household and she's found at the bottom of a cliff. Renisenb, Imhotep's daughter thinks this is not an accident and starts to learn more. I really enjoyed watching Renisenb grow as a character throughout this book. I love watching character arcs in books and hers is sublime. I tend to say Agatha Christie is so diverse in what she can do and this is truly no exception! I savoured this from beginning to end! Book 49: And Then There Were None by #agathachristie I’d never read the book, but have seen the TV series, various films and of course all the books and other movies which take this concept. It’s such a clever plot and I loved it. Truly brilliant and I know why it’s held up so well finally! The characters were excellent and her style is so fun. I’ll definitely be reading more of her! 5/5 #andthentherewerenone #christiemystery #crimefictionlover #crimefictionbooks #libbybaby #audiobooks

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict: For eleven days in December of 1926 famed author Agatha Christie went missing. The only trace detectives could find was her abandoned car left near a pond with her belongings inside. What followed was a massive manhunt unlike England had ever seen. Almost two full weeks later, Mrs. Christie was discovered claiming to have amnesia and providing little answers as to where she had been. Alternating between two timelines, author Marie Benedict has imagined what could have been the reason behind Agatha Christie's disappearance giving readers a glimpse into the author's personal life, her marriage and her success. One small warning to readers: if you haven't yet read some of Christie's work "The Mystery of Mrs. Christie" does contain spoilers of the plot lines of several of her books. I thought this was a really creative take on historical fiction and really enjoyed my first book by Benedict. ☠️ Review ☠️ Renisenb, a young widow, returns to her father's house on the banks of the Nile. She finds her family unchanged during the years that she's been away. But when her ka-priest father brings a beautiful concubine into their midst, the family she thought she knew begins to turn on itself. I'm not sure if Christie set other mysteries in the past (probably), but this is the first one I've read that can also be categorized under historical fiction. The story is set in 2000 BC, although I didn't really feel transported to ancient Egypt. Apart from names, this could've been a British family at an Egyptian-themed weekend house party. The plot was slow to start while the cast got established. All the characters are overly dramatic and one-note in their characterizations; they seemed like cartoons. Then again, everyone's behavior certainly built the foundation for murderous intrigue. The best thing is that I was sure I had the killer clocked and then, of course, Christie kept dropping fragmented thoughts in the last third of the book that messed up my evidence board. Damn her! While this isn't going to be a new favorite, it was nonetheless a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. ⭐⭐⭐/5 . .

🕵🏻‍♀️ Agatha Christie 🕵🏻‍♀️ Fun Facts: 🔎 Agatha Christie holds the Guinness World Record for best-selling fiction-writer of all time. She has sold more than 2 billion copies. 🔎 Agatha Christie wrote 66 detective novels, six non-detective novels, 150 short stories and 19 plays. 🔎 Agatha Christie wrote her six non-detective novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. 🔎 Miss Marple appears in 12 novels and 20 short stories. Jane Marple is based on Christie’s grandmother and her friends. 🔎 Hercules Poirot appears in 33 novels and 54 short stories. When Hercule Poirot was killed off in Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case (1975), he received an obituary in the New York Times - the only literary character to have ever done so. 🔎 Agatha Christie’s play, “Mousetrap,” holds the record for longest continuous run in the history of theatre. It opened in London’s West End in 1952 and has been running ever since, surpassing 28,000 performances as of 2021. 🔎 In 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days leading to a nationwide search. She was found staying at a hotel in Yorkshire under the last name of her husband’s mistress. Reading AC between heavier reads is such a treat! The Moving Finger left me dissatisfied as Miss Marple only made a cameo appearance — I kept turning the pages searching for her! A Murder is Announced was fantastic — oh, the plot-twists! I just finished They Do It with Mirrors over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Thanks to my partner in crime @bibliogamer ! The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie The A.B.C. Murders tells the story of famed detective Hercule Poirot (as chronicled by his faithful companion Arthur Hastings) as he tracks down a serial killer. A seemingly random murder was foreshadowed by a letter from someone known only as A.B.C. which gave the date and location the murder would take place. Now, the killer is going through people and towns in alphabetical order. Will Poirot be able to stop them before they get through the alphabet? Like always, Agatha Christie's work is superb. I was not able to solve this one myself, but looking back, all the clues were there. Can you guess who A.B.C. is?

I did it, y’all. I DID IT. I read And Then There Were None before someone spoiled it for me! ✨ 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 ✨ B̷O̷R̷R̷O̷W̷ B̷Y̷P̷A̷S̷S̷ To explain further, I became convinced within literal moments of deciding last year that I wanted to read Agatha Christie that someone would spoil her books for me (namely this one & The Murder of Roger Ackroyd) before I could actually read them, thus depriving me of the joy I would have had upon finishing them. Is there a statute of limitations on spoiling books? Honestly, I think there is. If I happen to off handedly mention the ending of The Great Gatsby, I don’t think I can get blamed for ruining that for you, you know? (Personally I put my limit at 50+ years - if it’s been published prior to 1970, that’s fair game) ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, I WAS NOT SPOILED AND I AM SO GLAD Furthermore, take this as your sign to read And Then There Were None if you haven’t already, because this was such a dang fun read and I absolutely loved how everything came together at the end! Loved the setting, loved the characters, loved the plot, loved the writing, LOVE how a mystery book that was written almost 100 years ago could still be so relevant & important to the genre today!

📚Book Review📚 Sparkling Cyanide is the top pick for this month’s #ReadChristie2023 and it’s everything you might expect from a classic Christie mystery (except for Poirot or Miss Marple). Colonel Race is the sometime sleuth who cracks the case, although he’s mostly a background character with centre stage going to the six people around the table on the night the gorgeous, sociable, heiress, Rosemary Barton, apparently committed suicide. We hear from each of them, given insights into how they saw Rosemary and the jealousies, desires and resentments underneath. When a second person dies in a similar manner at a reconstruction dinner a year later, it is clear that murder is the main dish on the menu. Christie delivers another entertaining, well-plotted, and satisfying story. A great read for fans of golden age crime. I read this in one evening last week and it so happened that my desk calendar’s picture for the day was of Agatha herself (swipe to see). I always enjoy a Poirot mystery and this one was no exception! Synopsis: An archaeologist’s wife is murdered on the shores of the River Tigris in Iraq. It was clear to Amy Leatheran that something sinister was going on at the Hassanieh dig in Iraq; something associated with the presence of ‘Lovely Louise’, wife of celebrated archaeologist Dr Leidner. In a few days’ time Hercule Poirot was due to drop in at the excavation site. But with Louise suffering from terrifying hallucinations, and tension within the group becoming almost unbearable, Poirot might just be too late… #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #queenofmystery #murdermystery #christiemystery #whodunnit #bookstagram #bookphotography #mysterybooks #murderinmesopotamia

📚Book Review 📚 It’s been a busy start to the year and so reading time has been squeezed, but I have managed my monthly Agatha Christie. A Murder is Announced is possibly my favourite Miss Marple and a Christie classic: village setting, a closed number of suspects, identity stealing, cups of tea (and cake), and a little bit of hiding in cupboards. Miss Marple is always a delight, with her sharp mind, patience and penchant for risk taking (in a very genteel way). Although Christie novels are always full of stereotypical characters, her understanding of human nature always elevates them a little. Hers is no rose tinted picture of village life. As Miss Marple says: ‘People, I find, are apt to be far too trustful. I’m afraid that I have a tendency always to believe the worst. Not a nice trait. But so often justified by subsequent events.’ I always find Christie mysteries a little comforting. Partly it is because you know what to expect; partly it is because they are a diverting, entertaining read; but mostly, I think, it is because she reveals the flaws and foibles of her characters and draws out the evil in their midst before creating a new order in which justice is done and most characters’ lives are just that little bit better than before. I’m planning on continuing my read through the Miss Marples this year, interspersing them with some from the #readchristie2023 challenge. Ciao ragazzi! Fatemelo sapere! ♥️ #thrillers #thriller #crimebooks #bookstagram #book #bookstagramitalia #booklover #books #bookstagrammer #bookaddict #booknerd #bookphotography #booksbooksbooks📚 #bookstagrampertutti #libridaleggere #libri #assassiniosullorientexpress #christie #agathachristie #christiemystery #murderontheorientexpress

Ciao ragazzi e buone feste!! Fatemelo sapere ♥️ #thrillers #thriller #crimebooks #bookstagram #book #bookstagramitalia #booklover #books #bookstagrammer #bookaddict #booknerd #bookphotography #booksbooksbooks📚 #bookstagrampertutti #libridaleggere #libri #lassassiniodirogerackroyd #christie #agathachristie #christiemystery #christmas

Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie #ReadingChallenge2022 Book 19 of 24 This is one of the mysteries where your suspicion changes from one person to another each chapter. Genre: Mystery Rating: 4/5⭐ Black Coffee book facts: ✒️Originally a play written by Christie in 1929, after she was disappointed with someone else's stage adaptation of "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd". ✒️Her agent told her it wasn't good enough to be played in the theatres. ✒️With her friend's connection the play was accepted for production in 1930, Embassy Theatre in Swiss Cottage, London. ✒️Until her next play "The Moustrap", this was her most successfully running play. ✒️Charles Osborne undertook the novelization of the play 40yrs after it was written & 20 yrs after Christie's death. He had played the role of Dr. Carelli, of Black Coffee during one of the plays. My thoughts: It was a light & fun read. Barbara's character was amazing, but that doesn't mean she wasn't a suspect. Bold, outspoken & not seeking validation. Expect a few good twists till you reach the end. If you read it bearing in mind that it was a play, you will surely enjoy this. Most importantly, like @bookschaimusic & I always say, almost every modern age thriller/mystery novels take a leaf out of Agatha Christie's book, so it would be wrong to judge the mystery revelation. Always consider the time period when her books were written. #blackcoffee #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #vintageagathachristie #classics #classicnovels #christiemystery #herculepoirot #agathachristieplay #instagram #aboutagathachristie #feeltheread #feelthereadbookreviews

The Sectret Adversary by Agatha Christie #ReadingChallenge2022 Book 14 of 24 This is the first of Christie's adventures thay I am reading. For a person who grew up reading Nancy Drew, the rush of the secret adventures definitely brought nostalgia! This book features two wonderful characters Tommy and Tuppence, who are both very interesting, talented and very different from each other. They go on a mission to find Jane Finn and the eventually suceed nailing the Mr. Brown.  Love all the subtle hints towards who Mr. Brown is, but interesting that Tommay and Tuppence also go through the same confusion (as opposed to Miss Marple or Mr Poirot knowing it all along!) I definitely recommend this. Such a fun read and a new flavor! #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #whatiread  #2022reads #thrillerbooks #libraryuk #agathachristie #christiemystery #thesecretadversary

At Betram's Hotel by Agatha Christie #ReadingChallenge2022 Book 13 of 24 This one features my favourite Miss Marple. It's a very different setup and mystery compared to the usual Miss Marple ones. Its thoroughly gripping and you turn the pages faster because you can't wait to get to the final reveal. This reveal beautifully potrays Miss Marple's own way of just knowing things by observation and experience as opposed investigation. 》Agatha Christie《 • • My first book of 2021 was "And then there were none" which was also my first Christie book and from then one i kind of fell into a rabbit hole of Christie mysteries 🤧 She is probably my most read author, but tbh given HOW MUCH she wrote, thats not too hard. If u ever get into Christie, its too easy to accumulate a good portion of her works. (I did second-hand mainly) After that i wanted to try Poirot, (started with the most popular ones: Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, ABC Murders, the Murder of Roger Ackroyd), and i highly enjoyed those. Miss Marple didnt hook me in right away but she sure ass hell grew on me too :D The last one "4:50 from Paddington" was hella fun. Its so satisfying to see Marple one-up the leading detectives and culprits 😂 Only downside on starting with the most well known, u get the best stuff out of the way too fast. Her other ones arent bad (some absurd and some confusing tho: looking at u "the big 4") but the aforementioned ones arent her most popular for nothing. • • #agathachristie #abcmurders #murderontheorientexpress #deathonthenile #themurderofrogerackroyd #herculepoirot #detectivenovel #books #bookstagram #andthentherewerenone #afterthefuneral #evilunderthesun #cardsonthetable #crookedhouse #appointmentwithdeath #fivelittlepigs #christiemystery #herculepoirotschristmas

The Sittaford Mystery Agatha Christie #ReadingChallenge2022 Book 12 of 24 This is one of Christie's that doesn't feature Miss Marple or Poirot but is throughly engaging. And Then There We’re None by Agatha Christie This was my first Christie mystery! A step out of my comfort zone in terms of genre that I typically read but overall it was a fun ride 😁 I can really appreciate Christie’s incredible ability to think up complicated plots that could be easily picked apart for plot holes or solved quickly if they were written by someone with less skill. I couldn’t see many of the twists and turns coming and certainly not the final murderer which made the whole experience more fun. I will say tho, be careful flipping through the last pages to check page numbers or anything because the final words are the answer to the whole thing lol 😂 Overall I’m glad I read it, it made for a fun Saturday afternoon but I wouldn’t say mysteries like this are really up my alley 🤷‍♂️ #mystery #agathachristie #mysterybooks #christiemystery #classicbooks #classicbookstagram #reading #doggo #twofavoritethings #classicscommunity #andthentherewerenone

The Clocks by Agatha Christie #ReadingChallenge2022 Book 11 of 24 Though its part of the Poirot series, Hercule Poirot plays only a cameo. Such a page-turner ❤️ Next up is another Christie book, guess which one? #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #whatiread  #2022reads #thrillerbooks #agathachristie #christiemystery #herculepoirot

Ciao ragazzi!
