Why I wouldn’t diet before a summer holiday🏝️ No pressure but my summer holiday this year is going to be 2 months long.. & how many thoughts have I had about changing my body for it… ZERO I hope you’re super excited for your summer holiday. Remember, you will look fantastic on the beach just as you are. Enjoy your holiday without unnecessary pressure. I also want you to know that gaining a little bit of weight on holiday is entirely normal because this is a time for your body to restore and relax and for most of us that means slowing down a little bit, eating a bit more and drinking a bit more. Just hopping on here to remind us all that health is a lot more complicated that diet culture makes it seem! ‼️ . It’s an industry that has to make you believe that you are fully in control of all aspects of your health to make you spend the money on their products 💰 . There is so much I could talk about in relation to this - weight stigma and fat bias, the obsession of our government with making ill-health an individual problem instead of societal one (that they perpetuate)… but I would literally be here all day ⏳ . 30/4/24 “Sempre. Sempre. Sempre…”. Vorrei scusarmi con il mio corpo per aver pensato che non meritasse cure e riposo se non dopo aver raggiunto il limite della sopportazione. Vorrei chiedergli scusa per averlo considerato meritevole di cure soltanto se attraverso di lui fosse stato abbastanza esplicito e chiaro quanto stessi soffrendo. Restavo in silenzio, comunicavo attraverso di esso, senza nemmeno rendermene conto; lo torturavo e ho continuato a farlo finché non ha iniziato a strillare. E tutto questo è stato profondamente ingiusto. Se potessi tornare indietro vorrei dire a me stessa che non è necessario ridursi allo stremo per meritare aiuto. Se potessi, ora, direi a chiunque che è legittimo chiedere aiuto prima che diventi fisicamente evidente di non stare bene, perché si è meritevoli di ricevere delle cure sempre. I committed to my new BLE buddy that I wouldn’t weigh my self for the next three months. The scale has been up, and it threw me off when I had actually begun to start feeling good in my body again. Who knows if it’s muscle, stress from complete lack of deep sleep, or a trauma response. But the number doesn’t tell you. It’s just one small form of data. Hi all ✨ I hope you’re all well. These past few days and weeks have been a little tough, some days more difficult than others. I have often gone through periods of feeling worthless and pointless, as though my presence on this world is unnecessary. This has led me to some pretty dark places mentally, as I’m sure you can imagine. Regardless, I’m powering on, trying to do my best to make myself feel more optimistic and feel stronger. I have been busy renovating my bedroom. It feels so cosy and comfortable again which has been a wonderful experience. I have mourned the anniversary of my best friend’s passing. Yet, in doing so, I reminisced about all of the fun times we shared, which was both heartbreaking and comforting. I have spent time with loved ones to ground myself and remind myself of why I am important. I have nearly finished my course in Peer Support Work (I finish today, actually!!). Which will be a huge achievement as I struggle to stick at things and persevere these days. So, while there may be a lot of darkness and pain in my mind currently, there are still positives that I am trying to hold on for. I can pin point numerous instances where I was nudged ever closer to my ED. I remember the people I remember what was said and how I was made to feel. I can also pinpoint the moment I chose recovery - into a fat body. I will be the person I needed to help me avoid an ED. Diet culture is a set of social beliefs that promote one way to look and eat (think good foods/bad foods). Diet culture says that we are more worthy if we look a certain way. 😡 Diet culture leads to food restriction, which can to binge eating, body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. Need more? I can vividly recall getting weight in gym class 48 years ago. I can specifically recall what my gym teacher said to me. Why can I recall this? Because it was traumatic and sent me into two plus decades of dieting. 🤬 Unfortunately my story is far from uncommon. I have heard hundreds of stories from individuals who can recall the first time they were shamed for their weight. Many of those stories happened at school. 😖 Do you have a similar story? Meet the 4 different types of hunger: . Physical hunger is the hunger you feel when your stomach is empty. You might experience physical hunger as a stomach growl, an energy dip, a headache, shakiness or dizziness. If your hunger cues aren’t super strong, you can keep yourself nourished by planning to eat every couple of hours. . Emotional hunger arises when we try to meet an emotional need with food. Sometimes food can be comforting, soothing, or joyful. Other times, food may only be a short term distraction. It’s important for emotional health to have more than just food in your emotional coping skills toolbox. . Taste hunger presents as a craving for a specific food. It’s ok to eat just because something tastes good! It’s also ok to wait until you are hungry again to honor that craving. When you make peace with food, you know that more tasty food is always coming, and taste hunger may not feel quite so urgent. . Practical hunger is physical hunger that you plan ahead to satisfy if you know you won’t have time or access to food when it’s time to eat again. For example, if you have a meeting during your lunch hour, you may choose to eat lunch early, even if you’re not hungry, because waiting to eat until after means getting ravenous. . Every type of hunger is valid! . Part of the process of intuitive eating is learning how to identify and honor each type of hunger in a way that makes you feel your best. Quanto male ti faccio ogni giorno? Fin da piccola mi hanno convinta che dovessi essere in un certo modo, che valessi solo entro una certa forma, che dovessi essere uguale al corpo di altri. Non solo non mi hanno mai insegnato ad amarti, ma mi hanno lasciata con un manuale di odio, disgusto e paragone da studiare e interiorizzare a vita. I remember these changing rooms & the torture they put me through. Or should I say, I put myself through. At 46kg, at least 10-15kg less than I weigh here, I felt disgust trying on clothes. Seeing my body at all angles, picking apart the fat I thought was there when in fact, I was skin & bone. . Losing weight is NOT the answer to your confidence issues & body image problems. Losing weight made me more self-conscious & even now, when I’m trying to cut down a little, I get hyper-focused on my flaws & see “fat” more than ever. I try to disassociate with it though now & focus on my actions, not my body. . You’re beautiful & no amount of fat on your body will ever discredit your beauty. You’re capable of the most incredible things & the amount of fat on your body has nothing to do with your capabilities. Remember that🌻
