My right shoulder has been having a tough month. The pain blocker injection I get in both shoulders every few months doesn't seem to have worked on the right side. So I am heavily relying on taping, my braces, my sling, and my fantastic health care team to get me through this rough patch. I guess it takes a village to get my arm to work. I am having trouble working my whole day, let alone a full week. The last 2 days of my long weekend seem to be getting better than Friday and Saturday, less pain and more mobility. I got to keep my plans to volunteer at a recruiting event for @sarregina306 and I was able to do my own hair for it, so I was pretty stoked overall. Had some time before I left to chill in the backyard with a book and @ghilliethealsatian and @good.girl.tikka #wascanatrails was a bit smoky, but it is always beautiful out there! A few SAR members went for a hike afterward and checked out the trails. I managed to make it outside this morning to play some fetch with Ghillie and cuddle with Tikka. We almost got to settle down and start reading, but the rain rolled in. Accountability in fitness, let's talk about it! One of the best ways to keep yourself moving daily is with the accountability of a partner, or in this case, an animal! My dog Fischer and I go on walks every day (runs most days) because he is such an active breed who needs the exercise. If he doesn't get the exercise, I may come home to a crazy dog who's chewed apart personal belongings... 😅 Consider this the same as having a workout partner, someone who plans to meet you for a workout in the morning or afternoon. If you dont show up, they'll be upset and vice-versa... Do not see movement (exercise) as a negative thing or something you dread doing. Look at it this way. We brush our teeth everyday as we know it will prevent gum disease and tooth decay. We might not want to brush them everyday but we know we have to. After all who wants their teeth in a glass of water beside their bed. When I was 219 lbs & carrying around too much weight mentally as well AND I was uncomfortable in my own skin.....it was hard to say yes to the fun things in life... let’s be real, it’s just hard to even be kind to people when you don’t feel good. But….. When you put in the work to take care of yourself, you begin trusting yourself, something happens… your self esteem increases & suddenly you're the one seeking out new adventures… When you feel good, a world of possibilities opens up. Stop waiting for all the stars to align! These before pictures were from a trip of a lifetime. We camped & rafted along the Colorado river, at the base of the Grand Canyon. Literally the most majestic views from the base and one that left me in awe of our Creator. When I started my health journey July 1, 2019, thinking on this trip was a huge motivating factor for me. I knew if I continued down the same path I would be forced to be a sideline spectator of this one life I get. I knew that I did not want that nor did my family deserve that. This trip was amazing, I did all the hikes with the exception of one. It was tough, it was taxing, but it forced me to see where I was headed if I didn’t make much needed changes. Stop waiting for the perfect time! Stop putting off the things that matter most. If you don’t make time for health, be prepared to make time for illness. Let go of the all or nothing mindset and shoot to be 1% better today than you were yesterday. Head to the link in my bio and fill out the form for information on my accountability group. Getting to be surrounded by these women on my team was everything & then some. Just the basics of SMR (aka foam rolling, using massage balls, etc). There is some debate in the fitness industry on the use of these tools for the average client. ⬇️Here’s our TAKE!⬇️ 🔥Educate yourself on HOW and WHY and WHERE on your body you are doing certain things. Don’t just do it randomly because you saw it scrolling. 🔥SMR can have a positive affect HOWEVER, foam rolling alone will not magically change your mobility - you have to move too! 🔥SMR can have amazing affects right away because applying pressure to the area brings additional blood (aka oxygen) there, as well as helping to relax the tissues. But the goal then should be to move to utilize that state. So about yesterday: Diamond Day! It’s here! #coachsummit2022 in the city of St.Louis and I’m beyond excited! Peep @julievoris in the background!🤩 can’t wait for her post summit event on Sunday! She’s 🔥 I arrived yesterday as I needed time to get a feel for the area and find my way around. This morning I woke up to a beautiful sunrise with the arch in view out my hotel window. I did my typical morning routine: drank my #hustlejuice , read my personal development, did my Bible study, & got a solid 20 minute workout in. Had breakfast & got ready as registration opened at 10. I got checked in and received my lanyard, with all the recognition and then made my way to the team hangout. Did a little shopping and some photo ops then changed clothes and headed to lunch with friends & a bit of sight seeing. Heading to a baseball game this evening then to bed because tomorrow is the official day 1.😆 So much fun stuff happening tomorrow! From a team workout, to training, to brunch & training with @joshcoats_pushcoach as a reward from my coach @njfitmom for hitting certain business goals. It’s completely overwhelming & I want to soak it all in.🥰 To have the opportunity to help other women see what’s possible in their own health journey by sharing mine and get compensated for it, seems too good to be true… but I promise it’s as good as it sounds & so much more. These 2 terms are used so often, often referring to similiar things, almost interchangeably. So what really is the difference? ⁠ ⁠ ☝️ These are some basics. 👆️⁠ ⁠ Here's an example:⁠ 🧘 You can grab your leg and pull it to your head (yes - I'm a dancer and think about these things lol) - you have great FLEXIBILITY.⁠ 🧘 You can lift your leg to your head on its' own without using your hands. - you have great MOBILITY.⁠ ⁠ Are they connected? - YES.⁠ Do you need good flexibility to have good mobility? - YES.⁠ Can you have amazing flexibility but little mobility? - Yes.⁠ So should we do a little of both? - Definitely.⁠ ⁠ Some good ways to incorporate both.⁠ 🔹Mobility BEFORE a workout.⁠ 🔸Flexibility AFTER a workout.⁠ 🔹Mobility ANYTIME during the day when you need movement.⁠ 🔸Flexibility when you are already warm and can dedicate time to really getting the benefits from stretching.⁠ ⁠ Hope this helps clear up the confusion. ⁠ ❓️Got more questions...Comment Below!⁠ Too much information? Tomorrow is the day that I head to St. Louis for our annual coaching event. It’s my first time and I am beyond excited to get to attend and learn from all the leaders in the company. Then I get a message from this lady @njfitmom inviting me to be her plus one to a couple parties that are exclusive invite only events…😳 I mean what would you do? Ummmm 🤨 of course! I’m honored that you would even think of me. Goodness gracious I am so thankful for your leadership & that I get to build this business alongside of you and this whole team. It is the best feeling in the world to serve other women and witness them experience success that they thought was impossible, either in their own health journey or building a coaching business. Yep that’s me getting my sparkles covered before heading out tomorrow evening!😂 Heading to the Lake of the Ozarks with the family BUT on Tuesday, I’ll be heading back to St.Louis to get ready for our annual business conference! So it’s almost here & I’m all over the place with my emotions! I’m heading to our annual business conference next week & I can’t freaking wait to finally meet so many people that I admire and have worked with virtually for a while now. Then there’s my rockstar coach @njfitmom who I met face to face when I went to Philly a few months ago & her bff @kendryaclose and so many other team members that I’ll get to experience this event & soak all the training & celebrations in with. @njfitmom is a no nonsense tell it like it is coach who loves you by telling you what you need to hear not what you want to hear!🤦🏻‍♀️😬 I freaking can’t waitttttttt!🤪 I’m not the girl who likes to travel by myself at all. I’m most comfortable at home or with my family on trips so going to these events is wayyyy outside of my comfort zone. Guess what? I won’t be alone. There will literally be 20,000 people there!😳 I’m nervous 😬 I’m scared 😱 All the what if’s 🧐are swirling around in my head. Thank goodness I don’t have to believe everything I think 😅 which is the result so much mindset work! I’ll get to meet coaches that have poured into me and our team, trainers that I’ve worked out with for the last 3 years, and I get to workout with live/meet in person!🥹 I get to workout with @elisejoanfitness who was the co-creator of the Fire & Flow program which I got to be in the coach exclusive test group with. She’s has to be the most positive person I’ve ever been exposed too. Her focus on mindset is so inspiring and the mental health work that this program offers meant everything to me as I was someone who struggled with debilitating postpartum depression which turned into depression & anxiety for years…. How I wished I would have had this community during those times. To soaking in the knowledge shared from all those who show up everyday on their own imperfect journey while inspiring others to do the same. It’s going to be epic! Are you struggling? Downhill Mountain Biking 🚴🏽‍♀️ at Kicking Horse 🐎 Awesome experience riding downhill mountain bikes at our favorite ski resort! Such a different ride than we are used to but so so much fun .. Top Rope Climbing! 🧗🏽‍♀️ So grateful for the kind and beautiful people out here. Everyone is so eager to help others get out and enjoy the amazing adventures that the area has to offer. Wonderful and amazingly talented climbers took me out last weekend climbing on Mount Shadows near Rockabout. First time outdoor climbing in 2 years. The hardest part of a wellness journey is the results that don't show up over night.🙌 I hear it all the time from the people I work with to my fellow coach friends, AND I was often there myself and still to this day, I get frustrated at times. We all want the "quick fix", or the "magic pill". Who doesn’t want things to happen quickly?🤔 We don't want to wait....we want the results NOW. But once you get past that way of thinking and realize this is a journey, a way of life...that's when you start to see the real lasting results. All of those quick fix, fad diets, ARE NOT SUSTAINABLE. They may work for a period of time but because they aren’t sustainable, the progress starts regressing and before you know if you’re right back where you started if not further in the hole. Movement is life! Movement is medicine! With the proper daily dose of movement,, you will feel amazing! And movement doesn't necessarily mean exercise. Yes exercise is great and it is so good for you. But daily movement for your body can include things like cleaning your house, taking the stairs instead of an elevator, going on a walk, stretching, etc. Always remember, an object in motion stays in motion. Think about when you sit for a long period of time, like on a long car ride. When you finally get to your destination and try to get out of the car and move around, you feel so stiff and sore and can barely move. Now picture not moving for hours day after day. The lack of movement wreaks havoc on our bodies. Rachel has been doing pilates since 2018, but has done other classes that embody some elements of pilates. Here is what she had to say about the benefits of Pilates. I have been doing zoom classes with Nic since last year and join the classes twice a week (I do the recordings when I can’t make it to a live class) I do pilates for a few reasons, the main one being to strengthen my core, rebalance my pelvis and loosen up tight muscles and ligaments...mainly caused by heavy horse riding falls. Before I started doing pilates with Nic, I struggled to run as the muscles and ligaments were so tight around my pelvis and my running stride was tiny. I can now run feeling a bit more active, although you won't see me breaking records anytime soon! Nic's classes are different as they give a much better awareness of anatomy and how I use my body. How can you speed up your metabolism? First it's helpful to understand what metabolism is: At a very high level - metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into the energy your body needs to function. Even when you're at rest, your body needs energy for all its "hidden" functions, such as breathing, circulating blood, adjusting hormone levels, and growing and repairing cells. This is what is called your basal metabolic rate or ‘BMR’, and accounts for upwards of 70% of your daily energy usage. This means ~70% of the calories you burn per day you burn at rest. Your BMR is affected by many factors like height, body composition, weight and age. We essentially have very little control over it apart from changing our body size, and even then it doesn’t move the dial much unless you've had a major body change. Above and beyond your BMR, you have some energy (about 10%) being used to digest food called the thermic effect of feeding (TEF). Then, you have all of your physical activity - including planned/structured exercise and everything else active you do in a day from typing on your keyboard to doing the laundry to walking to your car that makes up the remaining 20%. Of course, depending on your lifestyle, the percentages of the physical activity elements can vary substantially. If you want to speed up your metabolism you want to affect any one of these four energy-use components. The only ones that we can control in a way that will make a difference are exercise and other movements: ❌ BMR ❌ TEF ✅ Planned/structured exercise ✅ All other movement So when we take it back to the question of how you can boost your metabolism - the answer is to build wellness and nutrition habits that energize you to move your body. ❗There are no specific foods that will speed up your metabolism that will make any real difference. At the end of the day all foods are broken down to their substrates and used the same way. 👉🏻 Focus on exercise and movement and your metabolism will improve. Blue zones is a term for the 5 areas of the world where people not only live the longest, but are considered the healthiest.💙 These people are physically AND mentally healthy because they eat healthfully, walk and move more everyday, and also have a deep sense of community. 👉🏽 I do love where I live, but slowly over the years a few old mindsets have been fighting to keep LMM an “old folks home.” And “old” is definitely all in the mind. I find it so interesting that my whole purpose in life has been to inspire and educate people on how to create their own healthy lives but I am not allowed to do that literally in the place that I call home 🤔 I can only believe that my lesson was to learn to let go. Which I AM getting better at! My blue zone is currently these 2 garage spots (when no one is here). *The renters next door for the last few weeks were SO thankful to borrow my weights during their stay. They said, “The beach is great and LMM is great but there is no athletics, no fitness.” 🙏🏽 And with a smile - “Yep” I said, “I 100% agree.” This gives me hope... and if you are also struggling to find your own blue zone. Travel has been a lifeline for me through motherhood. I have 2-3 business trips a year, but because those also include friends, sights, amazing food and time where I’m focused on me, this work is also rest. Trips leave me feeling light and I love to pack simply and live those days light too. I started to #moveeverday last January, and by my 1st trip in February I realized my habits had already changed. I packed gym shoes and workout clothes, messing up my minimalist packing regime. I thought ahead about how I could get enough protein and vegetables when I’m not ordering the food. And, where and how I’m gonna workout amongst meetings and destinations. I remember this feeling of “who am I, right now?” My trip was still focused on me, but a new me. Making time to move when I was away really opened me up to new experiences I wouldn’t have planned. I was exploring neighborhoods and squeezed in a morning beach walk before a flight. I found my gym in other cities, swam laps in resort pools and shared the hotel treadmill with my son (which was a blast for him). All my trips throughout this last year were truly richer and more soul-filling than they would have been. It doesn’t take long to see a mindset change. A commitment to yourself is a gift. A gift that will continue to surprise you. Like me, you may find yourself saying “who am I, right now!?” #moveeveryday #evenwhenyoutravel #healthyandwhole
