London marathon round 2 race recap 💥 @childrenwithcanceruk I went into this marathon with no goal, no plan. I just wanted to finish and enjoy it .that's what I surely did . Finish half went nicely just at an easy pace, got to halfway at like 1hr 50 . Then my calf started to get tight, so I slowed down and managed my calf . Saw at @anthonyjoshua on course, and a guy wearing 100 t shirts .. 👕 Wasn't a pb this time, but to be honest, the lead up I had to this marathon my training block went to crap . And I'm completely OK with that . But running a marathon for fun really did make it fun.. Also bumped into @abirunslondon at mile 25.5 miles walked the final bit with her she was having a bit of a touch time so just chatted and walked with her. She smashed her marathon pb as well 🙌 London marathon, you never disappoint. I ran today @londonmarathon and managed to get a new PB 😃 official chip time 3:14:45 😃. What has made a big improvement to my fitness this past week has just come from the basics! I have just decided to hit 3 main key components! A regular sleep pattern with 8 hours a night. Hitting a high protein and fiber content in 3 main meals. Staying on top of my hydration. I have always found if I hit the 3 here everything else seems to move into place! I train better. I have less energy slumps. I avoid too many cravings. Massive well done to Jon hitting a marathon PB at Manchester!🏃🏻🏃🏻🔥 We have been currently mapping out Jon’s nutrition ready for the big race. Each week for longer runs we are looking to incorporate high carb low protein foods and testing what is right for Jon taper for the marathon. Pretty vulnerable post coming up... I'd describe my wee anxiety demon as Sally. Sally likes to rear her ugly head every now and again and at the minute Sally is doing a number on me. Sally likes to tell me everybody hates me and that I've no self worth. Sally likes to tell me I might as well give up because I don't fit in anywhere. Sally likes to tell me to stop running/going to the gym because people are laughing at me and I'm not getting any fitter. Sally also likes to eat her feelings, hence the Chinese. She is a stage 12 clinger and will follow me where ever I go: today she stopped me running half way through what was already a pretty sh** 10K. I'll do the work and Sally will hopefully go back to the hole she crawled out of very soon, but in the mean time I'll look after myself, I'll try and be as kind to myself as I can and I'll get outdoors when I can. 12km this morning. Longest run in over 3 years. Super slow, sweaty and my legs got beasted by the hill at the end but I’m feeling happy. I’m slower and heavier than I have ever been since I posted on here. Im going to try and commit to some training for a local triathlon in July. It was nice to smash out more than a marathon distance across 3 runs over the long weekend, including 23km on this morning's run, all nice and easy due to the mild calf strain. I've nonetheless made the decision to withdraw from Edinburgh Marathon in May, as recent injury niggles have put me far behind my fitness level of a year ago and realistically I have no chance of running a PB let alone achieving the Boston Qualifier time like I was targeting. Of course, I'm not being 100% sensible. That would be too much to ask! I'm pivoting from the marathon to an ultra marathon (my first ... so a new challenge) just two weeks later. I figure no pressure in terms of pace or speed work during training, so it's just a matter of building up my weekly mileage and weekly long run distance. Hopefully the achilles and calf can cope with adding more load. Bring on @bigfeatevents BigSea – Isle Of Purbeck 50km on June 9. And you can count on me targeting Edinburgh Marathon again in 2025, all going well! I'm currently 2 years on from the start of the taper for my first race in 2022 on my journey from my fattest ever to my fittest ever. The fitness score chart over the past 2 years shows that it's been an incredible rollercoaster. Well wouldn’t you just know it?! 🦌 ☺️ I was just saying, “I wonder if we’ll see deer?” It was early and so very quiet with no-one around so I had a feeling they’d still be enjoying the lay of the land. Then a moment later we disturbed them only a metre away - that was a great way to start our run 🥰 This morning was a nice easy zone 2 plod and it was such a fresh and beautiful spring morning to enjoy it 🌸🌼🌸🌼 Everyone’s gardens were neatly tended after having a couple of pleasant days and a long weekend for making the most of it and I was definitely glad to appreciate their efforts ☺️ Blue skies, fresh air, snow-like hawthorn blossom, resplendent magnolias, blooming bulbs and light-footed deer, that run definitely had it all… except legs, I didn’t really have the legs for it today (thank goodness for Zone 2 😂), but all the same that was a really great run to start the day 😊 I hope you all enjoy your eggs for breakfast, I certainly enjoyed mine 😉😁 Happy Easter Sunday 🐣

Cracking Team Tempo this morning. 4 * 10 minutes with 3 minutes recovery. As with previous weeks we tried to progress the pace through the first three intervals and then knock it back for the forth. My theory is during the last interval it suddenly feels way easier to run at a pace that is still above marathon pace on tired legs. Bit of a confidence booster!!! We peaked at 10 minutes at 5:49 per mile which is deffo a good pace for me. I love my Friday morning runs. Adam has been a regular training partner through the winter on Wednesdays for club runs and for Tempo Fridays. It was super nice this morning to also be joined by Nick, Johnny @johnnyyrun and Tris @tristanstephenson all great runners and inspiring in different ways. We also bumped into one of Tris’s brothers who joined us for 5 miles as part of a longer run. Managed to time it this morning to be dry too. Dare I say it almost felt springlike for an hour. Not bad, not bad at all Well we all know today was going to be my test run and it wasn’t too bad, just a bit niggly. I get lower back pain with it so that was the biggest nuisance but I’m hopeful I can improve these things with a bit of dedication. I’m pretty sure that I’ll end up spending more hours on strength and prehab every week than I do on actual running 🤷🏻‍♀️ Knowing the run could be uncomfortable, I gave myself the best shot of the most enjoyment possible on a run and took myself up to my favourite spot on the moors and chose the perfect timing to catch the sunrise on this beautiful Good Friday morning. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really enjoying myself as much as I’d hoped. It’s sometimes hard not to overthink things and despite the scenery it didn’t feel like the brightest start to a long weekend. How could I have all that glorious scenery to behold and still feel like I was missing out? I could have ran straight home but decided to run over the hill to see the other side of the valley and enjoy the light hitting the hillside. As I reached the crest of the hill I could see the deer in the field and they seemed so close, they paused to look at me before bolting but they really were beautiful. That moment made my run. I love it when I see deer on a run, it just fills me with hope and that was just what I needed ❤️ So there you have it. A not bad run with an uplifting sense of hope to finish ☺️ Happy Easter 🐣

PSA: a bad week won’t ruin all your training !!! After a week of feeling sorry for myself and somehow managing to get a grim stomach bug followed swiftly by the flu, todays the first day I’m starting to see the light at the end 😭😭 Having a week out of action about three weeks before my first ever marathon is NOT ideal. But I managed to get out for a 5k today and was completely blown away by how good I felt? My head was still rough and the sniffles were mental. But my legs and fitness felt really damn good. So moral of the story is: things will go wrong in training. But a bad week won’t undo all your work / fitness. A little update… Thank you to all for your messages over the last few days and your comments of support on my posts. I’m glad to say my hip is doing really well following Sundays Half Marathon but I’ve also not particularly tested it. I decided a few easy days for recovery would be a good idea but walking has been fine, I’ve just been a little aware of it from time to time. I suspect I need to build the strength in my hip flexors so I’ve been planning extra workouts to add into my physio and strength training. I was supposed to do a triathlon in a little over a week that I’m not going to do but so far this week I’ve enjoyed a swim, strength training in the gym and a short ‘run’ with my lovely mini-me and a perfectly timed workout from my @mymottiv training plan with plenty of hip work and stretching. Tomorrow I’ll venture out on my first proper run (still taking it easy) and see what happens 🤷🏻‍♀️ Feeling good about things going forward and I’m so enthused after the weekend that I’m already looking at more events to book going forward 😁

8 years ago today the World Championship Half Marathon came to Cardiff. Running on mass with legends like Sir Mo Farah among the elites. I'll always remember how all four seasons absolutely battered us at mile 5 and was freezing cold and wet for the remaining 8 miles. I set a target to finish exactly an hour behind Mo Farah, and I did just that 💪😜 This is in my top 3 of major achievements during my 12 years of being in the sport. General rule of thumb is that you can only be a World Champion by finishing 1st, but like the thousands that took part, and with my 2 hour finish time, I still felt like a World Champion. 🏅 Medal Monday🏅 … and what a weighty medal this is - 40 year anniversary special and the size of a frisbee!! Wilmslow Running Festival did not disappoint. I’m very grateful for all the marshals and volunteers that helped make this a great event. Brilliant turn out from the public too and glad to see a choir there to lift our spirits in the latter stages - it was all much appreciated! Not the race I’d planned on having with this hip issue but I think having the pressure of pace removed helped with the satisfaction of the day. I would have been happy with any time and 1:55:21 was certainly good enough for me (but I’ll be honest - I approve much more of the 1:54:43 given on Strava 😉 - I pushed through the pain at the finish knowing my watch was predicting a sub-1:55 😂) To enhance all those good things it was surprising to enjoy a warm run, I was a little overdressed (expecting windchill that would feel like 3 degrees) but then running in full sun was a massive blessing! 🌞 All in all a good day out 😁 Thanks @wilmslowrunningfestival and thanks to all the familiar faces that helped me enjoy it even more!

It was a struggle, it was tough but… I honestly don’t think I’ve ever felt more proud of a race! ☺️ It was @wilmslowrunningfestival half marathon and I wasn’t sure how today would pan out. Warmup was fine which was a good test of the hip but I still chose to double up on pain relief to try and help. After only a mile into the race I was in pain and wondered if I’d need to stop and turn back but I didn’t want to give in so stuck with it. Plan was just to make it to the finish. I kept a steady effort trying to ignore any aches and kept with the flow of people around me with a pace that felt doable. Things started to go south at the 6 mile point though when my leg started to feel funny, the constant ache around my hip and knee left my upper leg feeling numb and I wasn’t sure what I could do. I was at the furthest point from the start so no point turning back now so I made the decision to walk a while and rub some feeling back into it. Feeling returned and I decided to run again but just keep the pace easy. That became the journey for the second half of the race and it was more of a run/walk effort with lots of discomfort throughout. It felt arduous and hard work but I’m pretty sure every half marathon feels like that for some reason or other. I wasn’t sure how I was going to manage but somehow I kept moving forward and reminded myself that @suzie_evo_zwift had told me to have ‘courage’ - so I did! (Thanks Suzie 😘) By the time I was hitting the final quarter I just couldn’t believe I’d got that far. I simply grinned for the last few miles, high fiving all the kids, and totally happy and proud that I was doing it! I pushed for the final stretch and felt totally awesome to come through that finish line! I’m really happy with my time, not the pb I was hoping to aim for only a week ago and four minutes slower than last time on this course but a result that exceeded my expectations. What a lovely sunny day 🌞 It has been another tough week for me mentally, feeling very low but I'm so happy to get outside. I planned to run 7 miles, but just didn't particularly want to. Motivation is low right now! My lovely pal Liss was out running 5 miles, so I aimed to run 5 as well. Having that as a focus was great. I even picked up the pace a tad on the way back. Then this afternoon I went to see my uncle and had a giggle ❤️ and my brother popped round to my house. A productive day. My Lola even enjoyed being in the garden. Love a good sunny Sunday 🌞

geughhh, meh and pappity pap… Yup, you guessed it, if you asked me how I was feeling then that is pretty much how I’d respond! I’ve been reasonably quiet on the gram this week and it’s partly because my plan has kindly reduced my training load in advance of tomorrows half but also because I’m struggling with a runners greatest woe.… injury 😫 My hip has decided to pack in on me and insists on offering discomfort at any decent amount of movement with knock on effects with knee and shin pain. The night before last it stopped me sleeping 🥲. Some rest has helped things subside but this doesn’t play out well in a week I was hoping to race with a decent effort. It feels rubbish. After having every event hampered by pretty much the same thing last year I’ve worked hard to ensure I wouldn’t have the same thing this time around. I’ve seen professionals, taken advice, been in the gym twice per week using weights with increasing load. On top of that I’ve had a physio routine with resistance bands 2-3 times per week at home, as well as regular stretching, etc. I’ve seen improvements in my strength along with changes in my physique and I’ve not shirked off because I’ve wanted to enjoy training and so I wouldn’t suffer setbacks … Just like this one 😭 What’s frustrating is I can’t even think of whatever it is that’s triggered it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m mega frustrated. And disappointed 😔 I was looking forward to this race. I missed my 10k last month due to a seasonal virus and it was the right call, I felt rough. This time around I really wanted to give it a good go and now I feel like I can’t give it the effort it deserves. I’d normally be struggling to decide whether to race or not tomorrow but there’s no question for me, I just want to do it. I normally consider whether something will help or hinder future training or events but this is what I want to do. I know I’m going to suffer and I’m not sure if I can finish it at the minute but I don’t want to have regrets and my biggest regret would be not to give it a shot. This may be the stupidest running decision I’ve ever made but… I’ll see you at the race 🤞🥴🫣😬🏃‍♀️🫠

12 miles was on the programme this weekend, however I ran 7.5. After having PGP (pelvic girdle pain) and knee twinges recently I didn’t want to go straight back to distance and thought I’d ease back gently. It’s far too easy to throw ourselves back in to the distance we know we can do, but it’s not always necessary or necessarily the right decision. We recover in rest, so if you’ve been struggling with lethargy, small injuries, colds, lack of motivation then maybe it’s time to take a rest. Are the scales and your Strava app more important to you than your happiness? Let’s just say this past week you ran and completed your longest ever run and your weight had dropped by a 1lb! That week you: -You completed your runs and strength workouts -You worked well on your nutrition and tracked, and you were in a calorie deficit. The next week came, and your pace was slower, and you were unable to complete the distance you had planned, and weight had increased by 2lb. Nothing had changed from the previous week either! You get hung up by this and think, what’s the point and think about giving up! Things to think about: Is weight defined as body fat on how we feel and look? Does weight not fluctuate for lots of other reasons? Should our runs improve every single week? Why do you actually run in the first place? Are the scales more important than the comment made to you this week saying you look great? The fact that the inches are dropping off your waist this week? Just before you stepped on the scales you felt more confident when looking in the mirror. That you have actually lost 8lb of weight since starting 2 months ago anyway! That 1 year ago you would never have even run to the end of the street! We can get hung up on weight loss, PB's hit, running mileage achievements. ⠀ But don’t let a number define you!!! 💫 An ode to the humble run club !! 💫 Istg running clubs have changed my life and that’s no exaggeration. I ran for about a year before properly trying run clubs because they were so intimidating to me. I’d tried a few but a lot of them felt quite fast and the vibe just didn’t quite click for me. But now that I’ve found my ideal rotation it’s honestly made training so so much more doable and enjoyable!! As an autistic girlie who’s constantly struggling between wanting to socialise and wanting to hide alone under a weighted blanket, it’s such a good group activity for me. Chats with eye contact are minimal because you’re all looking ahead ! I’m chatting about one of my special interests ! And I’m achieving something either way, so the pressures off re how well I socialise ! I’ve met such lovely lovely people, and it’s honestly the best when you see people you know at different run clubs. It’s a game changer for adult relationships! I don’t think I’ve felt this kind of community since I was in school (and I MUCH prefer this one anyway) 💕🌸💐 If you’re thinking of trying a run club, I’d highly highly recommend. So what’s my current rotation ?! ✨ @these_girls_run for a 5k + coffee on Saturdays. Love doing these as part of my long runs!! If you’re a newbie the run clubs, this would be my biggest recco ✨ @runsocdidsbury on Weds for my easy runs. Lovely lot and a lot closer to home for that weekday eve run ✨ @fastgirlsrunclub for the Monday track session. A new addition I’ve been LOVING !! ✨ @gymgirlslockerroom on the first Sunday of every month. I’m a pacer and this one is the BEST vibes.
