SIZE 10 BLOUSE - this deserves a place on the grid. When I started this “journey” I had a rough idea of a weight I wanted to be but I was clueless when it came to sizing. I still am. Never in a million years did I think I’d fit a size 10. It’s crazy to think how far I’ve come, how much my minds changed and my relationship with food. May is Mental Health Awareness month, and anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns in the world. According to the World Health Organization, 301 million people struggled with anxiety in 2019. While everyone experiences some anxiety during stressful times and other occasions, for those with an anxiety disorder, it is more persistent and can affect the daily lives of those who have anxiety. Being diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder a few years ago really helped give me some clarity as to why I was experiencing rapid heart beats and struggled to breathe sometimes. Here are five coping skills I have tried to help me deal with my anxiety. 1. Go for a walk-I live across the street from a lagoon, and when I am feeling particularly anxious, I like to go for a walk along it. 2. Listen to music- I recommend making a playlist of “feel good” songs that you enjoy and playing it whenever you experience heightened anxiety. 3. Journaling/Blogging-Writing down my thoughts on paper or an online blog platform helps me brain dump and get whatever is on my mind out. 4. Meditation/Mindfulness-Use a meditation app to help guide you through this process. 5. Therapy-If you are able to, I recommend finding a therapist that specializes in anxiety. For all the folks who keep suggesting I try ginger and turmeric for my arthritis... No amount of ginger and turmeric is going to help the kind of inflammatory arthritis I have. My legs are twisted and deformed. There is no changing that. Not even the most powerful meds out there for arthritis have helped: standard NSAIDS, steroids, corticosteroid injections, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humira, Cosentyx, Taltz, Consentyx, and Simponi have worked at times and helped with some of it, but I'm a difficult to treat patient and my arthritis is vicious and stubborn. It does not respond well to even the most powerful meds. However, it responds better to these meds than just a diet change. (Which I have also tried in many different ways since 2011.) I got sick of all the suggestions so I turned my response into a t-shirt: "If arthritis could be cured with diet and supplements, 1 in 5 of us would not be suffering with the fire of arthritis." ~Carrie, MySeveralWorlds.com When you think about suggesting something you know nothing about to a person who is disabled and has been living with disease for 15 years, think again and don't do it. Vom 4-5. Mai, also am Protesttag für die Gleichstellung von Menschen mit Behinderung, fand die zweite Netzwerktagung „Disability & Theologie“ in Paderborn statt. Unter dem Thema „Körper und Körpermetaphern? Disabilitysensible Perspektiven auf ein ambiges Phänomen“ trafen sich (Nachwuchs)-Wissenschaftler:innen, die zu dem Thema Disability in allen Fachbereichen der Theologie forschen. Im Netzwerk vernetzen, diskutieren und forschen Theolog:innen mit und ohne (un)sichtbare Behinderung. Die Keynote hielt Dr. Mai-Anh Boger aus den Disability Studies zum Thema „Ein ungebändigter Schrei – Körper und Schmerz aus der Perspektive der Dis/Ability Studies“. Die Vorträge spannten einen Bogen von der Frage nach einer ableismuskritschen und disabilitysensiblen Homiletik und Exegese, über die befreiende, wirkmächtige und/oder schmerzvolle Kraft von Körpermetaphern bis hin zu anthropologischen Fragestellungen. Im Spannungsfeld von Schmerz und Disability Pride, von Vulnerabilität und Dynamis haben wir Disability weiter als ein Querschnittsthema der Theologie entwickelt. In der Abschlussrunde hat das Netzwerk zudem beschlossen seine Arbeitsweise zu erweitern und Untergruppen zu verschiedenen Themenfeldern zu gründen. Mamerte has been told many times that she doesn't belong in school, because of her disability. 15% of the 1.9 million out-of-school children in Burundi have a disability. Children with disabilities often encounter barriers to accessing quality education. Mamerte was discouraged by members of her community to attend school and was told she should stay home due to her disability. But she was resilient and knew that she deserved an education just like other children in Burundi. Now, as part of a Right To Play Girls Club, Mamerte uses her voice to advocate for other children living with disabilities to return to school. It’s progressive, meaning the symptoms worsen over time. Although Parkinson’s is more common in older adults, it can begin at any age. The cause of Parkinson’s involves the degeneration of nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls movement. This decrease leads to lower levels of dopamine, which is essential for coordinating movements. Unfortunately, while there is no cure yet, treatments include medications to increase dopamine, therapy, and sometimes surgery to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
