Active then passive flexibility In order to achieve permanent flexibility, stretching alone wont cut it. That pain and contraction you feel when you stretch is your body’s way of protecting you from going into a range of motion that can hurt you. By strengthening the muscles at your end ranges of motion, you give your nervous system reassurance that your joints won’t explode on you, thereby allowing you to go deeper into the stretch. Here’s an example of doing active stretches before passive. The adductors are being strengthened at the end ranges of motion by doing a weighted pancake and active straddle split. 😵‍💫BENDY WENDYS PART 2😵‍💫 My last post seemed to have triggered a few of my more flexible followers and to be fair I wasn’t as clear as I could have been When I say that your flexibility is affected by your genetics this doesn’t mean I am saying you can’t change your flexibility We all have the ability to improve or reduce many of our physical attributes such as endurance, power, strength and our flexibility… BUT… and it’s a big ol but there is a limit to our adaptability based on many things including our genetics Naturally genetically more flexible people will have a lot scope for improvement and will improve far easier than someone who isn’t as naturally genetically flexible This is not being negative or pessimistic, it’s being open honest and rational I would love to be able to run a sub 3 hour marathon by even at my fittest my physiology and genetics were just not conducive to that I know some will say this is an excuse, and some will use it as an excuse for not pushing themselves as hard or as often as they need to! But the facts remain that we are all uniquely individual and have unique genetics that govern a lot of what we can achieve!
