🌷 Zlatá Grai 🌷 Kristina Waagnerová 🌷 Žánr: fantasy 🌷 Série: Zlatá Grai 🌷 Díl: první 🌷 Počet stránek: 655 🌷 Čteno: e-kniha (březen 2024) Knihu jsem četla ve spolupráci s autorkou @kristinawaagnerova a ještě jednou bych jí chtěla moc poděkovat za eknihu i trpělivost! 💜 Naprosto netuším, kde začít svou recenzi, protože to byla doopravdy velká jízda a emoční nálož a já musím říct, že jsem si to doopravdy užila. Z počátku jsem měla problém se začíst a myslím, že to trvalo skoro 100 možná až 150 stran. Když jsem se začetla a začala hltat, co se děje kolem Isarell a byla jsem úplně napjatá a natěšená, co bude dál, tak přišla část třetí. Najednou jsem měla pocit, že jsem se ocitla opět na začátku a musela jsem se znovu začíst. Možná by bylo lepší, kdyby autorka tyhle dvě linie rozvíjela od počátku zároveň. Svět příběhu je naprosto dokonalý a autorka dala doopravdy možnost se do něj ponořit naplno! A byla jsem extrémně ráda, že existuje rejstřík jmen a že jsem obdržela i rejstřík pojmů, protože to mi hodně pomáhalo se v celém fungování světa ještě lépe zorientovat. Isarell je výborná postava a má ohromný rozvoj, protože ji vidíte vyrůstat a zocelovat se. Já si ji doopravdy zamilovala a celou dobu jsem se bála, že autorka ji postaví do boje na život a na smrt s Bastienem. To by mi doopravdy zlomilo srdce. Ale co se týče jejich vývoje vztahu tak jsem byla spokojená a někdy i velmi překvapená. Postav je tu doopravdy mnoho a vystihnout pravou podstatu všech by zabralo na samotnou recenzi. Já jsem si ohromně oblíbila Lucillu a vlastně skoro většinu divoženek. Postavy se musí odhodlal k různým výzvám a občas se budete bát zda to není až příliš, ale rozhodně s nimi budete společně bojovat i soucitit. Děj plyne velmi dobře a bavil mě (výjimka zmíněná v úvodu recenze). Nevadily mi časové skoky, dávalo to příběhu naprosto jiný rozměr a ani délka kapitol mě nijak nezaskočila (možná proto, že jejich délky neřeším nikdy kromě čtení do školy 😂). V ději na vás čeká několik malých i velkých zvratů a občas jsem vůbec nechápala, proč mi to autorka dělá a chce abych trpěla. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ POKRAČOVÁNÍ V KOMENTÁŘÍCH ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

“What a waste, army of dreamers” Fun fact, that song got banned from the radio during the Gulf. Anyhooo, first point is lots of people don’t like how graphic war is. So if that’s a bother for you don’t pick this one up. Personally I love war literature and this feeds my history nerd needs and romantic heart. Character development in this book is next level. Elwood & Gaunt are fascinating, Winn really captures the emotions of war time and how war changed the young men. War poetry involvement adds extra points. Not going to add much more as I think this book is better blind read. 🌷 Nevítaný host 🌷 Shari Lapena 🌷 Žánr: thriller 🌷 Počet stránek: 256 🌷 Čteno: audikniha (březen 2024) Knihu namluvili Libor Hruška a Martina Hudečková a byla velmi příjemná na poslech. Venkovský hotýlek, kde je klid a pohoda a každý z účastníků sem jede kvůli nějakému důvodu. Všechno vypadá skvěle a dokonalé, dokud se nenajde první mrtvola! Už při poslechu jsem měla pocit, že mi příběh něco velmi připomíná a pak jsem si vzpomněla na divadelní hru Past na myši (Agatha Christie) a bylo mi jasno. Inspirace je doopravdy znatelná. Příběh držel dobrý napětí a autorka mě úspěšně mátla v tom, kdo je vrah a když jsem měla nějaký nápad, tak hned odvedla moji pozornost někam jinam. Motiv jsem neodhalila, ten byl doopravdy dobrý. I když shoda okolností, že se tolik různých typů lidi a různými problémy sjede na jednom místě, působí skoro až neuvěřitelně. Osobně musím přiznat, že na konci na mě čekal jeden šok a do té postavy bych to naprosto neřekla. Jelikož píšu recenzi až po delší době, tak vlastně cítím, že kniha zapadla, nebylo to žádný zapamovatelný wow, který by mě ohromilo. Apologies to the author in my delay in posting this due to urgent family matters I had to attend to. This book is available now! This book is absolutely amazing! The research was phenomenal. The setting is Sicily and the descriptive writing describing the food and scenery is superb. Sara’s life is crumbling as her business and marriage have both collapsed at home in the US. Her much adored Aunt Rosie has recently passed away and sends Sara on an adventure to shake up her life, to see if their family is entitled to land in Sicily, and to solve the mystery of Rosie’s grandmother’s life and death. What Sara discovers is very interesting and propels the story forward. Learning about the lives of Sicilian women was intriguing. Sara takes us on a fascinating journey to learn about and fight for her family history. I definitely recommend you pick this one up! Where is your favourite place to travel to? Written in the form of diary entries, random thoughts, and memories, Here After is a memoir about the unexpected loss of a spouse. It made my heart ache and beat and feel. This is a special, special book. The one that echoed a favorite: Again and Again. I read The Green Mile when I was 14. Paul Edgecomb in the nursing home, living eternally with his mouse friend, forever saying goodbye to those he loves most dying before him? Yeah, that’s how Again and Again made me feel. But in a good way. 🌷 Sissi 🌷 Martin Schäfer 🌷 Žánr: historický román, naučná 🌷 Počet stránek: 152 🌷 Čteno: kniha (březen 2024) Poslední titul, který jsem si vybrala a stihla jsem ho přečíst před referátem byla kniha Sissi. Tato kniha začíná dětstvím Sissi a naleznete zde informace o její volné výchově a celkově o postoji jejího otce. Samozřejmě pak následuje část zásnub a přestěhování se do císařského paláce. Život Sissi je zde doopravdy srozumitelně a podrobně vysvětlený. Jsou zde zmíněny všechny důležité aspekty jejího života a dokonce zde lehce narazíte i na některé osobní výstřednosti, které byly podrobnější v předchozí knize. V knize naleznete plno obrázku, fotek a to nejen Sissi, ale její rodiny a i paláců atd. Je zde i svatební smlouva. Na konci naleznete časovou tabulku, která je trochu více podrobnější než v knize první. Dále je zde rodokmen Sissina otce i matky, úspěšná sňatková politiky Sissiny matky, děti Františka Josefa a Alžběty. Pro mě asi nejvíce byla přínosná "Spřízněnost Habsburků a Wittelsbachů v 19. století", kde je krásně vidět, jak byly rody propojené. I třetí kniha se za mě četla velmi pěkně a dá vám to celkový pohled na život císařovny. Takže bych vám ho doporučila, pokud si chcete udělat celkový obrázek o jejím životě. Pro mě byla velmi přínosná, díky množství obrázkového materiálu. Tímto příspěvkem se loučím se Sissi a jejím životem. Celkově jsem se dozvěděla informace, které jsem nevěděla a osvěžila si věci, které jsem znala. Pokud se vám tyto příspěvky líbily, tak vám příště představím jinou "školní" četbu. ⭐ 4/5 ❓Jaký je váš postoj k této císařovně? ❓Četli jste něco o Sissi? 🌷 Korunu snímám z unavené hlavy 🌷 Gabriele Praschl-Bichler & Josef Korzer-Cachée 🌷 Žánr: historický román, naučná 🌷 Počet stránek: 192 🌷 Čteno: kniha (březen 2024) Druhá kniha, kterou jsem četla o císařovně Sissi. Právě v této knize naleznete plno soukromých informací o životě samotné Sissi. Hlavním přínosem této knihy je, že zde naleznete zápisy z deníku císařovny, který byl celý veršovaný a tím pádem to má celý osobnější ráz a víc vás kniha zaujme. Najdete zde informace o císařině garderobě a o tom, jaké nosila šperky. Věděli jste například, že nenosila snubní prsten na ruce? Jaká byla péče o její vlasy na které byla extrémně hrdá a nechávala si je splétat do speciální vlasové koruny. Dále je zde rozebrán její životní styl, který rozhodně v dnešní době nelze považovat za zdravý, takže zde najdete, jak cvičila, chodila na procházky a co jedla. Je zde i velmi podrobná kapitola o jejích nemocech a následné lázeňské péči. Rozebrány jsou i císařovniny koníčky - umění, cestování. V poslední řadě zde naleznete i informace o jejích úzkostech, obavách a pověrách. Dalším zajímavým bonusem je, že zde najdete výpověď císařovniny společnice, která s ní byla v posledních momentech a vypověděla, jak to vše bylo. Opět jsou zde k nalezení části korespondence a též zde najdete zmínky z deníku její milované dcery Marie Valerie. Osobně musím přiznat, že se mi toto dílo četlo mnohem lépe než to první. Dostanete zde naprosto jiný pohled na císařovnu a nebudete jí už tolik vnímat jako sobeckou, jak tomu bylo v knize první. V otázce zvyklostech a soukromém životě byl tento titul velice přínosný. Thank you @harpercollinsca @graydonhousebooks for my free review copy! This book started out strong for me and I was really enjoying it for most of the story. The atmospheric writing was great especially in describing the hospital and the island which housed the criminally insane where Iris gets a job. The premise of Iris trying to solve the mystery of her deceased twin sister’s kidnapping and death was intriguing. It all got a bit complicated and confusing though through the last third of the book with too many things happening all at once which I felt detracted from the initial plot. How is your week going? Good afternoon, Booklings. How are we all this fine Sunday? It's a beautifully sunny but chilly day here on the South Coast. I don't know about you, but I love waking up to brighter mornings, and I've seen evidence of later evenings, too. I know we are only a few days in. I've had a really good start to March. It was my birthday on Friday, and when I also hit 4000, followers. After a REALLY tough few months/year, I'm starting to feel a little more positive and have even signed up to book tok. 🙈 I have no clue what I'm doing. But I'm an eager learner. 💐 Série Twillight 💐 Autor: Stephenie Meyer 💐 Žánr: fantasy, YA 💐 Série: Stmívání 💐 Díl: první až čtvrtý 💐 Počet stránek: 408, 464, 450, 603 💐 Čteno: audioknihy (březen 2023) 📚 Vím, že toto není obvyklý styl mých recenzí, ale z více důvodu jsem se rozhodla udělat příspěvek kompletně na celou sérii. Rozhodně si myslím, že se dočkáte i samostatných recenzi na jednotlivé díly. Už delší dobu jsem měla chuť si znovu přečíst Stmívání sérii, protože je to pro mě skvělá nostalgie. Jsou to knihy na kterých jsem brutálně ujížděla někdy v 13-15 letech. Doopravdy jsem je hodně žrala a chtěla jsem vědět, zda bys se mi série líbila i v 25. Chtěla jsem počkat než se ke mě dostane štafeta, kterou organizujeme s Terkou (@tera_cte). Nějak jsem nevydržela a rozhodně toho nelituji! Bylo to příjemné se vratit do tohoto světa ze kterého jsem byla kdysi tolik nadšená. Audioknihy se poslouchaly poměrně dobře, akorát by mi více vyhovoval mladší hlas, aby to sedělo k hlavní hrdince. Tak a teď už stručně k jednotlivým dílům... Za mě je stále a jednoznačně nejlepší Rozbřesk! Miluju, když je Bella upírem a vážně si to užívám. Jediný, co mě velmi zaskočilo, bylo zjištění, že v knize není závěrečná bitva. (Možná jste to zaregistrovali na mých stories.) Upřímně řečeno bych vám odpřísáhla, že si úplně přesně pamatuji, kde jsem byla, když jsem tuhle scénu četla, jak jsem držela knihu a jak silně to na mě působilo. Jak jsem zjistila, nejsem sama a více lidí si tuhle scénu vybavuje, že ji četlo a přitom údajně nemá ani existovat... Takže prosím, pokud někdo máte o její existenci potuchy, tak mi napište děkuji! 😅 Nejhorší díl je pro mě Zatmění, tam mě osobně štvali snad úplně všichni (opět jste mohli zaregistrovat na mých stories). Edward je majetnický zmrd, který nikam nechce pustit Bellu bez dohledu a nejlépe by ji někam zamkl a nikoho k ní nepustil. A ještě horší je, že do toho uvrtá i Alici, která se celou dobu tváří jako úžasná kamarádka Belly. Chaotic energy. Energy that drained me, both mentally and physically. That was the month of March for me. I feel like I took a break from reading and only managed to finish 2 kids books and barely start 1 novel of Japanese origin. The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper features a poem of the same name that was written for the theater; a poem of celebration and light. A poem about Yule. In this book, it is accompanied by beautiful illustrations by the talented Carson Ellis. I thoroughly enjoyed the poem and illustrations. Emerson and Princess Peep by Valerie Tripp was a delightful read. Emerson is taking care of a little chicken she has fondly named Princess Peep, while the baby chicks looks to Emerson as her mama hen. It's really just about little girls playing and having fun. It's silly and cute. Having once been a little girl, it feels very real and reminds me of my own childhood. I Am A Cat by Sōseki Natsume is everything I want it to be and everything I hoped it would be, especially after reading the manga version last month. Happy Pub Day!! Thank you @writercolleenoakley @berkleypub @netgalley for my free review copy! I absolutely love Colleen Oakley’s books! I’ve read all of them and they are all wonderful. This book was such a joy to read with an entertaining storyline, great dialogue, and great pacing. Once again the author has given her characters such interesting, unique, and unforgettable personalities. There is a great mystery weaving throughout the plot which slowly begins to unravel. At times the story is humorous, thrilling, heart warming and poignant. As Tanner and Louise head out across the country it is reminiscent of other stories about strong women but this one is definitely uniquely it’s own. I loved this feel good book from start to finish. Saying this book is a retelling of Little Women absolutely shortchanges this book - it is so much more, it made me care so deeply about the characters and their fates that I finished the book crying and that doesn’t happen to me often. Yes, there are four sisters at the center who loved Little Women and have been debating who is Jo or who’ll be their Beth. But they grow up in the 1970s and 1980s with a mother who would have loved to have been a little more than a stay at home mom and desperately wants them to finish college whatever the price and a father who loves his daughters but may always love his bottle just a little bit more. They become each others support net each in their own way - there’s the planner, the nurturer, the romantic and the artist - until the arrival of William Waters, first boyfriend than husband to the oldest of the sisters sends ripples through the net since he comes with his very own set of challenges having grown up with parents utterly depleted by grief for their other child’s early death. There are more instances that test the sisters bond - reflected in William‘s found family/ basketball team. This book was a beautiful rendition of what life, love and loss can do to a person and what it takes for people to regain an equilibrium after love and loss and how life choices can challenge even the most solid familial bonds. Beautifully written characters and fabulous story arcs and character development for all of them ! They aren’t there long before Salma becomes embroiled in a conflict with her next door neighbour Tom. Salma’s family has put up a Black Lives Matter sign in front of their house and it causes a massive dispute with Tom. Battle lines are drawn and the conflict quickly escalates to an out of control, dangerous, and terrifying feud. The story focuses on the impacts of racism and bigotry and as we know this is unfortunately rising in society rather than decreasing. The book is well written and fast paced. The characters were interesting and the story definitely drew me in. Overall a great suspense story with important messages. What book are you recommending this month? Six quick book reviews! The Kind Worth Saving by Peter Swanson ~ Thank you, Partner @bibliolifestyle @williammorrowbooks for my copy ~ This fast paced thriller was especially propulsive in the beginning. It had one good surprise and a satisfying conclusion. The Butcher and the Wren by Alaina Urquhart ~ The pacing was great and I enjoyed delving into the forensic aspect, but I did not think this was especially unique. I also didn’t like how most of the victims were presented as silly and disposable. Murder Your Employer: McMaster’s Guide to Homicide by Rupert Holmes ~ The tone was perfect, there were some clever moments, and I did laugh out loud more than once. But it also lingered too long in certain places, consequently boring me at times. Ghost Music by An Yu ~ I absolutely loved the beautiful writing and melancholic reflections. Unfortunately, I felt disappointed in the direction the story went. Endangered Animals by Tom Jackson ~ This book made me sad. I hate what we are capable of. But I did find it educational and I loved the huge, full color photos. Blind Spots by Thomas Mullen ~ Thank you @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for my copy ~ I was very excited to read another novel about a blindness pandemic, having loved Blindness by Jose Saramago. This was a gritty thriller, rather than a meaningful tale, but there was some social commentary inserted. I thought it was decent, although the ending felt like a bit of a cliche.

When Alice wakes up from a coma she can’t remember the last two years. Her nemesis Callum tells her they are in love and have a life together but she finds that unlikely. Callum decides they will reenact their first 10 dates to see if that will bring back her memories of him. The dates are fun and we get a better appreciation about what an exceptional person Callum is. I was bothered about the portrayal of Alice’s parents with the stereotypical overbearing but well meaning mother and the henpecked father. Usually I don’t mind these types of characters but in this situation I would have liked to have seen more well rounded non stereotyped parents. The pacing of the book was good and the two main characters were likeable. Overall the ending was good but a bit rushed. It’s Pub Day!! Any books catching your interest today? ✨DREAMLAND BILLIONAIRES SERIES APPRECIATION✨ I started the Dreamland Billionaires series last year after seeing so much hype around The Fine Print and I quickly understood why this is a beloved series when I read Terms and Conditions soon after. When I saw the third and final book Final Offer was out I immediately went and picked it up and I started it this morning. 🏠 Book Review 🏠 Happy Tuesday bookstafam! I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far? Well the weather has turned to custard and we’ve got high winds and rain at the moment 🌧️ for the first time ever, our trampoline blew over and landed on the fence 😱 Upside is I’m off to the city to see a comedy show tonight - #ilovemichaelmcintyre QOTD - what’s the weather like where you are and how are you enjoying it? The Housemaids Secret - Frieda McFadden ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 This story is told from two perspectives, Millie's and Wendy's, which works well as the perspectives switch at critical moments. The narrative is easy to read and flows well. The constant "cliffhanger" section endings got a bit tiring after a while, e.g. "and when I opened the door, I couldn't believe what I was seeing" or "and in front of me was something that made me want to scream" - those are not direct quotes from the text, but you get the gist. I started adding "DUN DUN DUUUN" after the first few to lighten the monotony. Millie is a readable character, however, I felt with her there was too much unrevealed history - even when some of the history is revealed, you don't feel like you've got the entire story and references to her "past" are more irritating than intriguing. Wendy's an easy to understand character and is quite open to sharing her thoughts and motivations. I enjoyed reading her sections of the story. I thought this was a well-written book with only a few niggles for me, which is why I settled on a 3.5 star rating - it wasn't average but it also wasn't a definitive 4/5 stars for me. I felt that some of the plot twists were quite easy to guess, especially if you're looking for the misdirect (which I usually always am). It also has a relatively happy ending, for the "good" people of the story, which I thought was a great way to conclude the book. I really enjoyed reading this with the #obsessedbuddyreads group ❤️

Happy Pub Day!! Thank you @kerrylonsdale for my free review copy!! This is the third and final book in an amazing trilogy. We have Lucas’s story here and it was powerful to finally learn the story of this elusive character. After learning about his sisters in this first two books it was great to tie up the series from Lucas’s perspective. Lucas is very complex and his story is heartbreaking, raw, and inspiring. The new character of Shiloh is amazing and it was wonderful to have her POV and to witness her impact on Lucas’s life. Shiloh also has a disturbing and important story to tell. Overall this was a great book and a satisfying conclusion to this domestic suspense series. This can be read as a standalone but to get the backstory and to connect with and understand all three siblings I would suggest you read the series in order. Eevee here 🐶.. with a Book Review for you. The Bodyguard: Katherine Center ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was such a fun read. Hannah was a great character and I felt like I could relate to in a lot of ways and while she is not particularly like-able in the beginning, by the end of it you are really routing for her. This one gave me Miss Congeniality vibes (loved that movie growing up), which is not a bad thing! This was not your typical Rom-Com, and I loved that it was different. To be honest I feel like I’ve been reading a lot of really great romances lately, either that or I’m just in romance phase of my life! I am here for it ❤️ Fun Fact: Eevee is such a lover, so much so that she will crawl up on you and wrap her little front legs around you while resting her face on your cheek to give you a hug.
