I don’t usually rate novella’s more than a 3⭐️ because there isn’t much story to get invested in. But this definitely deserved 4⭐️. This was really really good, it was creepy and suspenseful and I held my breath through a lot of it. As you get through it you can probably predict how it might go, but there are definitely a twist or two in both what is happening now and some revelations of her past. This book was a very entertaining way to pass an hour or two. I am most definitely a fan of Louise Candlish. I still have The Other Suspect on my shelf to read and a few of her older books. Our House was without a doubt 5⭐️ for me. Anybody recommend any of her others? Book Review The Skylight - Louise Candlish Simone has a secret. She likes to stand at her bedroom window and spy on the couple downstairs through their skylight. She knows what they eat for breakfast and who they have over for dinner. After all there is nothing wrong with looking. Is there? With just 89 pages The Skylight has more twists and turns than many longer length thrillers. I loved the premise and the story was entertaining. Simone is a morally grey character, as were many of the others. Another spellbinding read from Louise Candlish. This is a novella so it was a very quick read, but it was packed with suspense and a feeling of unease. Simone likes to spy on her neighbours through their skylight. They are a married couple and through her skylight she can watch them when they sit at their dining table. One day she sees something that makes her very mad and seeking revenge. An addictive read that was not short on the suspense, even for its small size. @currentlyreading__ Book 92 of 2022 After finishing @louisecandlish’s upcoming 2023 thriller ‘The Only Suspect’ I went for this very quick read and loved it. I get that it is meant to be a quick read produced for The Reading Agency but I would have loved this to be a full length novel, such was my interest in both the plot and characters. However, it being approximately 100 pages didn’t take away my enjoyment. Simone and Jake live above Alina and Gus, a pair of self-satisfied and rather selfish individuals. With constant electro-dance pumping and an endless stream of workmen entering their flat, they seem to be oblivious of the noise they are inflicting on Simone. When Simone uses the bathroom she is able to see into the flat below through the skylight and one day she sees something she can’t unsee. Cue Simone exacting revenge and little by little she will make Alina pay. There is a cast of four main characters and although a short book, all four are well fleshed out. I’ve read one full-length book by this author (Those People) and loved it so I was delighted to find a quick listen available on Scribd. It’s only 1 hr 40 long if you want to be distracted driving to and from the office. Simone can spy on the neighbours in the apartment below hers and one day she sees something she shouldn’t have seen. Ta da da dum 🫢 Highly recommend this author and this listen. Her book, Our House, won a few British awards and has been made into a TV series. Her writing is police procedural (clever writing, no tricks!) and not at all “popcorn thriller” which I am here for 🙋🏻♀️ Who’s adding this to their list? It made me think of ‘Girl on a train’ as the story line follows a very similar plot. The Skylight by Louise Candlish 🎧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is the first short story I have read (well listened to). I was intrigued to see if I would enjoy it as sometimes I do even find some 300 page books too long. This was very short and snappy. A basic storyline with minimal characters to help push the story on. There was slight suspense, but it was very predictable. I’m still keen to try some more short stories in the future. At Dennis DeYoung’s version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Skylight. It was amazing and per usual I was a crying mess by the end (it follows original ending). ✨THE SKYLIGHT✨ by Louise Candlish Simone’s neighbours aren’t the nicest people. They laugh and belittle her, and she’s never gotten over the nuisance of their renovations. The renovations that result in the skylight that allows Simone to see every meal and interaction at Alina and Gus’ dining room table. She can see them, but they can’t see her… I found this while browsing the Kindle store and having previously just read a @louisecandlish novel, thought I’d give this quick read a spin. At less than 100 pages why not?! THE SKYLIGHT is a very enjoyable and easy to read story, I loved the buildup on tension and waiting to see what Simone would or wouldn’t do. I don’t want to give too much away but I could have easily read an entire 300 paged novel based on this premise so if you’re looking for something quick and menacing this was the perfect wee weekend read to help bring me out of a slump!

The agency is promoting reading in the UK, where 1 in 6 adults struggles with reading. For every book in this series sold, the agency will donate a copy to someone who finds reading difficult. Written by Louise Candlish, this is a short story that follows a lady called Simone, just 91 pages. Proud to own her first home, Simone’s flat overlooks her downstairs neighbours and she has a birdseye view of their kitchen via their skylight.
