I am that which is experiencing. I am that which is knowing. We can control the company we choose to keep. We can control what we choose to give our energy to. We can decide how we want to show up in the world to manifest what we desire. June welcomes the new season of Summer. ☯️ In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the element of summer is fire. Fire is associated with heat, joy, love, passion, laughter, and the color red. It is also linked to the heart, pericardium, and small intestines, and emotionally to the mind and its stability.  The summer solstice (coming soon) is considered the peak of summer and yang-fire energy, as it is the longest day of the year and the shortest night. TCM suggests that people should try to live in harmony with the summer season and the fire element. No matter what level you’re playing at, loss of concentration can play havoc on your game. To help with maintaining focus you should have a plan for every single point. There’s no point in rocking up to the line and not knowing what it is you’re trying to achieve. Give yourself a little goal to aim for. And it doesn’t have to be complicated! Even a goal as simple as “I’m going to run down every ball in this point” or “I’m going to come to net the first opportunity I get” or “I’m going to keep attacking their backhand” Knowing what you’re trying to achieve helps keep you present. I’m playing a life long game here. Every stumble I take is someone else’s marker on the journey that although it’s tricky and challenging, they’re heading the right way. Like, yes you’re in the middle of a dark, scary forest but look… on that tree is a note saying “You are going the right way. Keep going” So honey, if things are messy for you right now, you’re going the right way. The Truth Behind the Mindfulness Teacher 🙈 Don’t be fooled by my “mindfulness teacher” title. I have spent much of my life on autopilot, disconnected from my body and its needs. Growing up, I struggled with body image issues, exacerbated by societal pressures and family dynamics. Overexercise and alcohol became my coping mechanisms, pushing my body beyond its limits and ignoring its cries for help. I’ve spent more time than I like to admit gossiping with girlfriends despite taking entire courses on ‘right speech’ during my training. Even when I was actively engaged in my education as a mindfulness professional, I was often disconnected from these teachings in my life. Becoming more mindful has been a journey and practice of being WITH these parts of myself with more curiosity, acceptance, and kindness. I have learned how to be with the part of me that judges myself for not meditating or being mindful enough and to call in the version of me that celebrates and honors exactly where I'm at in each season and stage of my life and motherhood. This is Mothering OurSELVES Mindfully. It's being with all of our selves with a curious, open and kind presence. The beauty of this work is that learning how to be present with ourSELVES helps us learn how to be present with our kids and all of their selves—because we all know they are dynamic little beings, just like we are!
