It can’t hurt me. At least not for now. I’ve been flirting with poison ivy for several years, tempted by risk, brushing up against it and waiting. But, it didn’t hurt me. Instead it drew me closer, piquing my interest even more, its warning an invitation. So I began a body of work last summer, diving deep, allowing myself to become vulnerable to this plant through hours at a time of skin contact and exposure, breathing it in, understanding that I was testing the limits of my own strength and physical wellbeing. Yet, it can’t hurt me. I am intrigued by its allure and its adaptability; how it can put on a spectacular show or so easily remain unseen, blending into its surroundings, still entirely present. There’s a beauty to its unassuming wildness and its tiny flower that it will only reveal to those it deems worthy. And it finds no imposition by the boundaries of men; it cannot be tamed or trained, bending to the will of no one. As I continue this body of work into the new season, watching and waiting for the new growth, I am carefully selecting which plants to forage and which to leave behind even though there is an over abundance in the wild. In tandem with the ongoing climate change poison ivy has become more and more prolific with a growth rate far exceeding that of the other flora and fauna that surround it, exponentially so. Such rapid growth rate means far wider spread into new areas, larger leaves, and higher toxicity. It is ever confident. But, still. It can’t hurt me. At least not for now. #bookclubchoice for Feb was Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. I've been meaning to read that book for so long and I'm so happy I finally got to! We had a wonderful discussion and I can't even begin to summarize all the great observations that people had. For example, it stood out to me the parallel someone saw in the captivity of Billy on Trafalmador and the imprisonment in Dresden. I don't know how I overlooked that while reading! 😳 What I found very interesting too, is that for many the "time-line simultaneity" was an expression of the futility of any effort of the small person to change anything at all. While for me, that was actually a very comforting idea, as I saw it as what being human is - I am simultaneously myself from all my 36 years so far, I'm also myself of today, but I'm also (at least partially) the person I aspire to be tomorrow ALREADY and I find a lot of hope for tomorrow in that! 💚 I saw a few interviews of Vonnegut too and there is something about this person, that I just wanted to hug him and feed him cookies... 🤷♀️ Despite a very bleak story, I'm filled with warmth after reading #slaughterhousefive and I think this might be the right way (for me) to write about war. 🤯 What is your next read?

💚💚💚🩶🩶 (3/5) for The Watchmaker of Filigree street by Natasha Pulley It's a book which I loved in the beginning and sort of enjoyed at the end, but I admit I had to push through about 3/4 of the way. 🥲 It's wonderfully whimsical if you don't pay too much attention/think too hard of how some of the main topics/themes are outlined. 🧠 If you read with your brain off, you'd easily give it 5/5. 🤷♀️ Alas, I did start thinking at some point and certain things stopped making sense or became a bit annoying/confusing/cumbersome to take in. 🙄 Anyways, as a first book, I find it a good effort and it could've earned and extra 💚 had the editors done a bit more thorough job with.. Well editing. 😁 👍I'll leave you with one of my fav quotes: "A painting. There's a depressed Dutchman who does countryside scenes and flowers and things. It's ugly, but I have to maintain the estates in Japan and modern art is a good investment" 🤭 yes he is talking about van Gogh! 🌻 👎And my absolutely least fav quote (because exactly the opposite has always been true) : "although one could still do proper science with a magnet and some iron filings, it felt professional to have made something that looked like a mutated windmill. Science had to have some mystery, otherwise everyone would find out how simple it was". Feeling the Monday blues pretty hard today. Of course the best remedy is to wrap up in a blanket and read my book (The Law of the Heart), but I finished it last night. Mișto și acțiunea și actorii frumoși ,cu multă chimie intre ei .(Mario Casas și Maria Valverde ) Țin minte că am căutat în perioada aceea disperata pe net o continuare a cărții pentru că nu îmi convenea cum s-a terminat și am și găsit o varianta pe placul meu pe care am citit-o toată in limba spaniolă. Se tot spunea că apare și a treia parte a filmului și nu a mai apărut .Hache și Babi provin din lumi diferite și se naște între ei o poveste controversată și frumoasă pentru care trebuie să lupte. Filmul a avut încasări de 13 milioane de dolari . M-am "înarmat" cu biscuiți și fursecuri și îs curioasă și de carte. A citit-o careva de pe aici ? This week, I was thinking of one of the very first folk songs I ever learned: "One Tin Soldier" by The Original Caste. My mom had it on a cassette, and I would listen to it on repeat when I was around five or six until I learned all the words. The sarcasm of the refrain was so gripping: "Go ahead and hate your neighbour; go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing come the judgement day on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.". If you've never heard it, go to YouTube and look it up. There's even a fun little animated music video, circa-1970s style. It's quite a powerful little parable. . Sadly, it's a parable we still need. Every year--every month, it seems--there is a new and heartbreaking conflict somewhere in the world. Everyone thinks their own side is right, and some think that gives them the right to take what they perceive is theirs by force... no matter who gets hurt along the way. . Am I a pacifist? I don't know. I've never thought about it that hard. I do believe there is a time to take up arms to defend oneself, so I guess not. But I also believe that by the time it gets to that point, many things have gone horribly wrong, and it would be better to use diplomacy. . This isn't a direct comment about the war in Israel. For my own mental health, I tend to keep myself at an arm's distance from the news, so I don't feel informed enough to comment. Even just knowing this kind of war and destruction is happening in the world feels like such a burden to me. I would love to see love win. But nations don't fight wars with love. . Still, I believe that many of the things that are wrong with the world could be made right if more people heeded Mr. King's advice. It may not be until kingdom come. But I'm looking forward to the day when love drives out hate and light drives out darkness.
