#twofortuesday โœจ๐Ÿ“– : I wasnโ€™t able to read any books for #middlegrademarch this year so Iโ€™m looking forward to a middle grade May instead. Here are two of the books that Iโ€™m hoping to read. : ๐Ÿ”† The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart: I have wanted to read this one since it first came out, but just havenโ€™t gotten to it yet. The next book in the series, Coyote Lost and Found released in March and Iโ€™m hoping to read both books next month. : ๐Ÿ”† The Night War by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley I loved Kimberlyโ€™s previous books, The War that Saved by Life and The War I finally Won, so Iโ€™m very excited to read this one too! : I canโ€™t wait to spend time with these two young heroines along with a few more middle grade books in May. Iโ€™m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that tomorrow is the first day of May. April was a whirlwind! : Do you have a favorite middle grade book to recommend? : โ€œA childrenโ€™s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good childrenโ€™s story in the slightest.โ€ ~ C.S. I collect books about books/reading/bookstores/libraries/you get the idea. Iโ€™ve never read anything by Lewis (gasp!) or Tolkien (the horror!) and I think if I had, I would probably have enjoyed The Reading Life, a compendium of essays and commentary by Lewis. There were some bon mots and snippets I thought were sublime, but shelf space is at a premium as you can see in this photo, so Iโ€™m undecided if Iโ€™ll be keeping this book in my collection. ๐Ÿ“š #bookstagram #whatimreading #booksaboutbooks #cslewis #thereadinglife #bookish #bibliophile #booknerd

This has been on my TBR list forever. Iโ€™ve only recently started physically reading books again and Iโ€™m glad this one was worth the time and effort. Kvothe is unlike any of the heroes of Fantasy novels Iโ€™ve encountered so far. Heโ€™s supposedly legendary but at the end of this novel that yet remains to be seen. Patrick Rothfussโ€™s The Name of the Wind is part of a trilogy but as far as I know only two of the series has been published of late. (ASOIAF dejavu). The novel is well paced, with wonderful world building, endearing eccentric characters, magic, and very beautiful prose. One of the few I gave 5 stars to on Goodreads. โ€œYou climb back in bed & touch my face. You climb back in bed to touch my face. You wrap your arms around me & itโ€™s like youโ€™re the patron saint of touch as well as soft sunlight & soothed dogs. Or you must be the earthly representation of divine holding. Or youโ€™re both & a boy, like me, holding on.โ€ I want to live in Chen Chenโ€™s love for the things he loves. YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED AN EMERGENCY is my kind of poetry at its finest. It is queer and earnest and playful. It is sharp and funny and not much short of magic. The magic is in the way that Chen frequently, playfully subverts the expected, infusing playfulness into poems in either word or form from one about his dog (who is โ€œfantabulously pugableโ€) to one about racism in the academy (in response to a professorโ€™s question, โ€œIn the tingly hairy gay sense, Iโ€™m from Whitmanโ€). So many of these poems made me laugh, but there is poignancy and heartbreak and so much depth here too. This may seem like a theme, (and it is certainly becoming one,) but this book tackles the complexity of being human so effortlessly. The grief and hardship as well as the flamboyant joyfulness. Chen Chen is of a modern poetic lineage that includes the likes of Ross Gay and Hanif Abdurraqib. A lineage that sparkles with this kind of earnest authenticity and acknowledgment of the both/and of life. A lineage that refuses to let darkness totally subsume the light and that simultaneously taps into the ways that that very darkness makes the light all the more meaningful and necessary. I could read these poets in any form and learn and feel more and new and deeper every turn. Miraculous, really. Charlotte Bronte was #bornonthisday in 1816. Charlotte was the oldest of three sisters who truly left their mark on Victorian Literature. : Jane Eyre is the book that Iโ€™ve read the most and one of the first classics that I fell in love with. Viletteโ€™s protagonist, Lucy Snowe, is a character that I continue to think about and the reason Iโ€™m looking forward to rereading the book again soon. Shirley is the next novel of Charlotteโ€™s that I hope to read, perhaps for #victober. The Bronteโ€™s were such a fascinating family with so much talent but also tragedy. I havenโ€™t read the biography or letters yet. Maybe I should combine them with Shirley and have a Charlotte focused Victober this year.โ˜บ๏ธ : Are you a Charlotte Bronte fan? Which is your favorite novel of hers? : โ€œWe know that God is everywhere; but certainly we feel His presence most when His works are on the grandest scale spread before us; and it is in the unclouded night-sky, where His worlds wheel their silent course, that we read clearest His infinitude, His omnipotence, His omnipresence.โ€œ ~ Jane Eyre : โ€œLove is realโ€”the most real, the most lasting, the sweetest and yet the bitterest thing we know.โ€ ~ Shirley โ€œLiberty lends us her wings and Hope guides us by her star.โ€ ~ Villette : : : : : #bookstagram #charlottebronte #janeeyre #vilette #shirley #charlottebrontequote #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #victorianliterature #literarybirthday #thereadinglife

When I read in a magazine that the book currently on Kristin Hannahโ€™s nightstand was Kate Mortonโ€™s Homecoming, I knew I had to read it. Itโ€™s not often that one of your favourite authors endorses another favouriteโ€™s work. Homecoming is the first physical book Iโ€™ve read in years. My problematic eyesight and the hectic pace of life has left me with listening to audiobooks exclusively in the last few years. This book was executed in Kate Mortonโ€™s traditional dual timeline style, complete with an ancestral house and the obligatory family secret waiting to be discovered by the current generation. This was set primarily in Australia- the home alluded to by the protagonist who is residing in London at the moment. And what an explosive Homecoming it was! There were many twists and turns along the way but all loose ends seamlessly joined together in the end. Not really my jam, but Iโ€™m almost finished. Have you read The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker? This is one of those books that would be far better on screen than on the page. Hereโ€™s the blurb: One cold night, two newcomers emerge onto the streets of 1899 New York, and it is never the same again. But these two are more than strangers to this land, they are strangers to this world. From the depths of folkloric history come Chava the golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a disgraced rabbi and Ahmad, a djinni, born in the ancient Syrian desert and trapped in an old copper flask released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop. Two companions who were never meant to be released, and never meant to meet. And when they do, their opposing natures will be sealed by a special bond, but one that is threatened by watching eyes, roaming owners and a misunderstanding world. A glittering gem of a novel, as spell-binding as it is compelling, The Golem and The Djinni asks us what weโ€™re made of and how we can break free.

This year I decided to tackle the Classics. Iโ€™ve never read anything by the Russian Masters but eventually hope to read Anna Karenina and War and Peace someday. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is my first foray into this branch of literature. Iโ€™m not exaggerating when I say I needed to use all my brain cells to read this novel. Apart from the confusing nomenclature, there was a lot of philosophy, theology and the socio-political and economic history of that era and region to digest. How these were woven into a story with a brilliant plot on the side- itโ€™s definitely a masterpiece. โ€œBooks are an escape that beckons the reader from the heavy burdens of this worldโ€ฆThey can challenge as well as comfort. Entertain and educate. Even save us in ways weโ€™d never expectโ€. : Amos and Charlotte formed an unlikely friendship at a young age. He was the son of a tenant farmer and she was the daughter of an Earl. Her passion was her cello and his was books. As they grew, so did their feelings for one another other until circumstances and the war tore them apart. : Fast forward twenty five years and Amos has returned home from war a scared man, both physically and emotionally. Misunderstandings and things not said continue to keep them apart. A dream they once had to open a bookstore together has turned in to each owning their own bookstore as rivals. She has a love for Jane Austen and he for Sir Walter Scott and they share a special bond over Dombey and Sons by Charles Dickens. : โ€œ The scents of a bookshop: leather, paper, the hint of citrus furniture polish, and the sharp-and- sweet aroma of honey and Earl Grey tea. Was there any better combination in the world?โ€ : @kristycambron does a great job of telling their story by looking back at the past and bringing it back to the present which is 1940 in the midst of World War II. Circumstances have brought them together as they put their past aside and work together as the war looms close to their home of Coventry and the people they care about. โ€œ Everyone is something to someone. Remember that the scars we bear should make us more worthy of understanding, not less.โ€ : I enjoyed the historical elements of this book as well as some great side characters, surprising revelations and an endearing story of love. : โ€œ To love meant to accept all - the grit and grief alongside the beauty. To endure the harshness of life note with despair but with hope.โ€ : Itโ€™s also a beautiful tribute to books - โ€œPerhaps days like these are exactly why we have books in the world. To remember that not all is lost, even if we find ourselves in the unknown. I like to think we provide a haven for the wanderer. And help him remember he has a place to call home.โ€

#twelvebooksontuesday โ€ข Poldark Edition : : @carosbookcase and @farmer_floss are both in the midst of reading through this series. I know many people have seen the show, but I highly recommend reading the series for a more in depth look at the family, their friends and acquaintances and the time period they lived. : I watched the show first so I had a beautiful visual in my mind of the Cornwall coast and Aiden Turner as Ross as I read through the series. : Have you had a reading experience with a series or individual book that has been impactful or memorable? Since April is National Poetry month, I thought I would share some ways we have enjoyed poetry as a family. : I never read a lot of poetry until I was homeschooling our children. One of my favorite resources was a book called Favorite Poems Old and New. The poems are arranged by different categories making it easy to find the perfect poem for any situation. : When we were part of a co-op, I taught a class where we studied a different Artist, Composer and Poet each term. In addition, we would study six of the artists paintings, six pieces of music by the composer and twelve poems by the poet. Over the years we grew to know and love different poets and a favorite was Robert Frost. There are some fantastic picture book biographies for different artists, composers and poets, but one of my favorites is Papa is a Poet ; A Story about Robert Frost by Natalie S. Bober. Itโ€™s beautifully written with lovely illustrations by Rebecca Gibbon. It also includes photographs and some of his poems in the back. : Itโ€™s always fun to see how different kids connect with different poets and I think introducing poetry to them at a young age makes it more enjoyable and accessible as they get older. : Do you enjoy poetry? Iโ€™d love to hear who some of your favorite poets are. : A Prayer in Spring - Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day; And give us not to think so far away As the uncertain harvest; keep us here All simply in the springing of the year. Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white, Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night; And make us happy in the happy bees, The swarm dilating round the perfect trees. And make us happy in the darting bird That suddenly above the bees is heard, The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill, And off a blossom in mid air stands still. For this is love and nothing else is love, The which it is reserved for God above To sanctify to what far ends He will, But which it only needs that we fulfil. : : : : : : : : #bookstagram #robertfrost #poetry #booklover #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #nationalpoetrymonth #thehomeschoollife #thereadinglife #charlottemasoneducation

One of the benefits of a scavenger hunt is the reminder of unread books and old favorites. : You canโ€™t go wrong with anything by Kate Morton and this one has a surprising twist. If you enjoy magic realism then you will love the Dove Pond Series by Karen Hawkins. The Book Charmer is the first book with a fourth book releasing in August. The series would make great summer reading. Paint and Nectar is the second book in a series that I loved by Ashley Clark. Itโ€™s full of southern charm and vintage vibes. I really enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing and the movie that followed. If youโ€™re in the mood for Cold War historical fiction then I highly recommend The Berlin Letters along with A Shadow in Moscow by Katherine Reay. : : Do you see any favorites or maybe something that you would like to try? Iโ€™ve been thinking a lot about mothering. Since becoming a mother, sure, but especially when reflecting on the way mothering shows up in my reading. And the ways in which you decidedly do not have to have a child of your own to engage in the act of mothering. It was in this frame of mind that I went into TELL ME HOW IT ENDS: AN ESSAY IN 40 QUESTIONS by Valeria Luiselli. In this slim book, Luiselli chronicles her time working as a volunteer interpreter for the New York City immigration court, interviewing unaccompanied refugee children from Central America. This book is gutting. The horrors that these children face getting from their home country to the US, once in US โ€œcustodyโ€, and when trying to stay in the United States, prove that we are failing our worldโ€™s children. Whether you are a parent or not, you cannot help but feel devastated by the stories that Luiselli conveys here. Cannot help but feel enraged by an immigration system devoid of humanity. Hearing about some of the horrific Bush- and Obama-era policies left my blood boiling and was further proof of our broken political system. In WE LIVE FOR THE WE, Dani McClain talks a lot about combatting systems of oppression as an act of mothering. I am left with more questions than answers, but wondering what I can personally do for the children that are not mine but that could be mine if circumstances were reversed. Toni Morrison tells us that, โ€œthe function of freedom is to free someone else.โ€ A sentiment that echoes through these pages and makes me want to commit to tangible action. Grateful to Luiselli for opening my eyes on this topic because now they will not be able to close to this injustice. Tea Cooper writes historical fiction with a bit of mystery set in Australia. This is my fifth book by her and she has definitely become an auto buy author for me. Iโ€™ve truly enjoyed every thing Iโ€™ve read. Historical fiction and mystery is the perfect combination for me, but the thing that sets hers apart is the setting. She writes so vividly about Australia and makes the setting come alive along with fascinating historical elements inspired by actual events. : The Woman in the Green Dress is a dual timeline story connecting people and events from the 185Oโ€™s to those in 1919 just following the end of World War I. I loved the way the pieces came together and the storylines merged. : If you enjoy historical fiction, literary travel and following an interesting mystery then I would encourage you to pick up a novel by @tea_cooper. If you do, come back and chat with me, @sabines.literary.world, @farmer_floss or @carosbookcase . We canโ€™t seem to get enough of her books.๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ“– : : โ€ข Description: 1919: After a whirlwind romance, London teashop waitress Fleur Richards canโ€™t wait for her new husband, Hugh, to return from the Great War. But when word of his death arrives on Armistice Day, Fleur learns he has left her a sizable family fortune. Refusing to accept the inheritance, she heads to his beloved home country of Australia in search of the relatives who deserve it more. In spite of her reluctance, she soon finds herself the sole owner of a remote farm and a dilapidated curio shop full of long-forgotten artifacts, remarkable preserved creatures, and a mystery that began more than sixty-five years ago. With the help of Kip, a repatriated soldier dealing with the sobering aftereffects of war, Fleur finds herself unable to resist pulling on the threads of the past. The Matchmakerโ€™s Gift is a treat from beginning to end.๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ : Sara has been helping people find their soulmate since she was ten years old and she introduced her older sister to her future husband on the boat to America in 1910. She doesnโ€™t do it for money like the traditional male matchmakers of NewYorkโ€™s Lower East Side. She does it for the joy of joining two people who belong together. : Fast forward to 1994 and we meet Saraโ€™s granddaughter, Abby. Abby is a successful Manhattan divorce attorney who is discovering that she has the same gift as her grandmother. She can see when two people belong together and she is discovering that helping people begin a marriage is more rewarding than helping them end one. : When Sara dies, she passes along all her journals from when she was a matchmaker to Abby. As Abby reads the journals we get a glimpse into what it was like to be a matchmaker back then and the couples she brought together. In alternating chapters we see how Abby is trying to navigate her new found gift in her own life. : I really enjoyed both timelines and main characters as well as the glimpse into the Jewish customs and traditions. I also enjoyed the bit of magical realism sprinkled in along with the fact that the inspiration for the book came from stories shared by a friend of the authorโ€™s daughter whose own grandmother was an Orthodox Jewish Matchmaker. The book was so much fun but also quite moving. : Iโ€™m so glad that I picked up this lovely book by @lloigman and look forward to reading more by this author. This book has so much to offer - endearing characters, historical perspective , family ties, heartwarming but also with plenty of depth. โ€œThe heart is big enough to hold both grief and love.โ€ : What great books are you reading this week? LESSONS FOR SURVIVAL: MOTHERING AGAINST โ€œTHE APOCALYPSEโ€ by Emily Raboteau was a thoughtful, intimate, imploring collection of essays and street photography. Raboteau centers herself as a Black mother amidst the overlapping and intertwined crises of racism, climate change, and COVID-19 in New York City. Journalism, cultural critique, memoir, and art take turns at center stage and the result is an exquisite and somehow seamless telling of both the current state of affairs and how to be a global steward and mother amidst it all. For fans of GOOD TALK by Mira Jacob and WE LIVE FOR THE WE by Dani McClain, LESSONS FOR SURVIVAL made me feel simultaneously connected to a web of motherhood and aware of my duty to the work of mothering on a grander scale. I currently have three children under the age of three and it can feel so incredibly consuming. And Raboteau, while never shaming, connects the intimate acts of mothering her two boys with the broader social implications of things like climate change, state-sanctioned racism, and the genocide of Palestinians. The whole book made me want to take more intentional care of my community and our planet. Because despite all of the devastating facts and figures Raboteau shares, this is ultimately a book about still mothering against those devastations. And in that it is hopeful. What a gift. If you are looking for a Christian Fantasy series I just finished and LOVED The Dancing Realms by Sharon Hinck. In the past I have struggled to finish series, but I blew through these and it gave me hope that maybe I can be a series lover one day ๐Ÿ˜†. Do you love series or do you prefer stand-alone books? Swipe to see each book followed by my review of it! Here are a few of my favorite quotes found in this seriesโ€” โ€œThe problem with perfection is that it wasnโ€™t a fixed point. Each time I neared it, it danced away, tantalizing and mocking.โ€ โ€œEven terrifying challenges can become routine in time.โ€ โ€œSometimes the hardest things to believe are the most important to accept.โ€ โ€œOne lesson is learned as a dancer: give full focus to the work. No room for self-condemnation or doubt.โ€ โ€œWhat art is worth making apart from love?โ€ #christianfantasy #avidreadersofchristianfiction #thereadinglife #bookpeople #bookloversofinstagram #bookloversunite #christianfictionreaders #christianfictionlovers #booklove #authorlife #booklife #avidreaders #sharonhinck #dancingrealmsseries #hiddencurrent #forsakenisland #windwardshore

Been trying to get back into my bookstagram so I have been trying to post my current reads on Mondays. Going Zero by Anthony MacCarten is my read for book club. This is a fast-paced adventurish story about a beta test where people go off the grid, and this organization tries to find them. If you can stay missing for 30 days you could win 3 mil. But there is so much more to it than that. This is also in my ears ๐ŸŽง in addition to a physical copy. ๐Ÿ“– The Quartet Murders by J.T. Ellis. This is my new favorite series. Read the first book last week. The main detective Oldroyd is an enigma but also an old soul. He loves to invest in those around him. And atmospheric all over the place. It is set in West Yorkshire Great Britain and has me Googling like crazy. Reading this on ebook and it is available on Kindle Unlimited. Lastly, Hercule Poirot's Casebook by Agatha Christie is on my nightstand. This is a chunky book of short stories that I am tackling a few a week. What are you currently reading? #Housefullofbooks #current reads #thereadinglife

โœจโ€™The Cruel Princeโ€™ follows Jude, a human, who has to find her place and identity in faerie world admidst all the treacherous faerie politics. Betrayal and romance awaits her, as she fights for survival and power in a world where humans are inferior. . โœจโ€™Itโ€™s my first Holly Black book, and the reason why I picked this book was because I just wanted something fantasy, but easy and fluffy to get through. For YA, the writingโ€™s better than what I expected, enjoyed the range of characters, and the enemies-to-lovers trope for Jude and Cardan was nicely built up. I just thought that the characterisation of Jude can be deeper, as jn, I didnโ€™t really get much insight into Judeโ€ฆ it was still mostly straightforward for me, but I guess itโ€™s just YA pitched at a certain group of people. The plot was decent enough for me to want to continue reading the rest of the books. Should I? Maybe on a day when I want to read quickly. Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club is my first book by J.Ryan Stradal. The cover makes this book appear like a fun summer read but it actually has quite of bit of depth and covers some rather serious subjects. : At the heart of this book is Betty, Florence, Mariel, and Julia, four generations of women and their relationship with the Lakeside Supper Club. Itโ€™s about the legacy thatโ€™s passed down from mother to daughter and what that means. : Iโ€™ve never actually been to a Saturday Supper Club but through the pages of this book Iโ€™ve experienced all that it has to offer. There is so much nostalgia and Midwestern small town charm in this book, but also a keen insight into women which I find is a rare gift for a male writer. : This is not my usual type of book, but I find myself already looking forward to reading my thrifted copy of Kitchens of the Midwest which is also by J Ryan Stradal. What great books have you discovered by venturing out of your normal comfort zone? : I hope youโ€™re having a great Saturday!โ˜€๏ธ : : : : : #bookstagram #jryanstradal #saturdaynightatthelakesidesupperclub #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks #thereadinglife

I absolutely loved this book by @katherinereay! Katherine has been an auto buy author for years, but I think this latest book may be my favorite. : Luisa Voekler is a code breaker for the CIA when one day at work she comes across a symbol that sparks a memory from her childhood. That memory leads her to the discovery of some letters that had been written by her father who she had been told died when she was a young girl. The letters are written in code but once she deciphers them she begins a journey to uncover the past and open her eyes to the truths about her family that she never knew. : I donโ€™t want to give too much away because part of the joy of this book is the way it propels you forward to find answers to so many questions. The story is told from both Luisa and her fatherโ€™s perspective and begins the day the Wall went up in East Berlin and finishes the day it came down. : I loved getting a more intimate account of this part of the Cold War and Katherine does a great job of pulling out so many interesting aspects and providing so much understanding. : I love learning about history in the midst of a story and the Cold War is such a fascinating subject because itโ€™s such recent history. I highly recommend this book along with her previous book, A Shadow in Moscow, to gain a greater understanding of the Cold War while enjoying two great family stories! : : : : Bookmark courtesy of @sweetsequels : #bookstagram #theberlinletters #katherinereay #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #historicalfiction #booksbooksbooks #thereadinglife #harpermusebooks

** Book Review ** Out tomorrow (March 19) Another winner from Rebecca Serle! Recently named one of LoanStars March 2024 top picks, Expiration Dates is a story about Daphne, a young thirty-something woman, who knows the exact length of time each of her romantic relationships will last as she magically receives a slip of paper with a relationship expiration date for each man she becomes involved with. She becomes used to relationships ending and the idea that love is fleeting. But when she receives a note with a name (Jake) but no expiry date, she thinks the universe is telling her that she has finally met the one meant for her. That heโ€™s everything she should want. But what if who she loves is her choice and not predetermined as she has lived her life believing? What if she embraces the unpredictability of life? This is a story about romantic love, friendships, and familial relationships. But it has some great depth to it via an unexpected development that occurs mid-way through the novel and which really added to the plot for me and made Daphne more understandable. I also really liked her relationship with Hugo, a former boyfriend and best friend. This was a quick read with an interesting concept. If you like a bit of magical realism and romance with some depth, then definitely check this one out! Thanks to @atriabooks and @netgalley for this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own. ๐Ÿ“’ Our Hideous Progeny, by @c_e_mcgill ๐Ÿ“š Inspired by the classic Frankenstein, this book is a fast and fun read, focusing on not just the rights that women deserved but struggled for in the UK in the 1850s, but also the wrongs that they were believed to be incapable of, simply because they were women. ๐Ÿ”–"We shall steal fire from the heaven, and I shall not repent, even for one minute - for what sort of god would condemn us to a cold world without it?" ๐Ÿ“š We live through Mary's lonely childhood, followed by her transition into an infuriating marital world, the lies she is fed, and opportunities that never fall in her lap - the ones so easy to come by and foolishly thrown away by her husband. We get to know the women around her, who are smart, and sharp, and meant for great things but easily dismissed or sucked into the traditional roles. ๐Ÿ“š Mary, with her smarts and inclinations towards paleontology, inspired by the discoveries left in the form of letters by her late Uncle Frankenstein, finally decides to push her struggling mediocre spiteful scientist husband towards starting a project of her own. It infuriates you to see her perform the lion's share of the work here with no hope of getting recognized for it unless attested by "credible" men. What gives us a satisfying closure is how she uses society's disbelief in women in her favor and brings about a satisfying justice for herself in the mostย twistedย way. _____ โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข #ourhideousprogeny #cemcgill #bookreview #bookreviewer #booksofinstagramย  #readersofinstagramย  #bookwormย  #bookstagrammerย  #thereadinglifeย  #booksandflowersย  #botmย  #bookcommunity #reading #goodreads #fiction #kindle #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookblogger #beautifulbooks #bookreels #bookstagramindia #goodreadschallenge #goodreadschallenge2024

Late post. I read Wallace Stegnerโ€™s Angle of Repose last year. This was a beautifully written story about a family who lived in the American West when it was still unexplored. Itโ€™s always nice to learn about history as it unfolds through the eyes of a family. Apart from the bigger plot, Iโ€™m always drawn to the day to day details of how people lived at that point in time. Have a great week Bookstagrammers! . . . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #bookstagramfeature #bookish #bookworm #bookaddict #bookaholic #bibliophile #thebookishlife #thereadinglife #currentread #currentlyreading #currentreads #recentlyread #recentreads #wallacestegner #angleofrepose

THE THIRTY NAMES OF NIGHT by Zeyn Joukhadar was such a beautifully wrought book about loss and survival and love and joy. It is breathtakingly queer, full of stunning avian imagery, and steeped in Syrian and Syrian American culture. And I just really really loved it. The novel centers two storylines - that of a trans boy in Little Syria in New York City in present day and that of an artist named Laila Z immigrating from Syria to New York City in the 1920s/30s. Sometimes dual perspective novels donโ€™t work as well for or one character feels less developed. Not so here. I cared deeply not only for these two characters but for their exquisitely vivid friends and lovers and family members. This was multi-generational queerness with an expansive heart, lyrical writing, and a dust of maybe-magic. There is tragedy here and heartbreak, missed opportunities and loss AND there are happy endings. Joukhadar gifts us hardship mixed with joy. Enchanting, thought-provoking, and ultimately hopeful, this book made me proud to be queer (and want to take up birding). Cannot wait to read more from Joukhadar. Image ID: the cover of the book The Thirty Names of Night is imposed over a photo looking straight up into a gray sky with a lamp post, electrical wires covered in the silhouettes of birds, and one bird with spread wings flying

I read somewhere where someone compared this serie to the Game of Thrones series. The YA version. I've never read GoT or watched the TV series so I can't really say or compare the Falling Kingdoms to GoT but what I can say is when my favorite characters gets killed in the Falling Kingdom series I did not like it one bit. ๐Ÿคฃ Hurted my heart. I'm also reminded how much I love reading fantasy when I got back into reading again this January and found this series again stored away. . . -Kelly . . . #fantasybooks #readabook #bookstagram #bookbookbook #booktok #fallingkingdoms #bibliophile #thereadinglife #lifeofareader #booklover

โœจThought this is one of the more tender, hopeful and brighter moments in โ€˜Hell Bentโ€™, when juxtaposed against what the story is mainly about, which is journeying to hell to get Darlington. โœจFor some inexplicable reason, โ€˜live in an apartment with good lightโ€™ stood out to me - it emphasised the quiet desperation in Alex for me. . โœจAlso thanks for this quote, I now have the obscure knowledge of โ€˜Morning Becomes Eclecticโ€™. . #hellbent #leighbardugo #leighbardugoquotes #alexstern #darkacademia #fantasy #bookstagram #bookstagramsg #bookstagrammer #thereadinglife #readersofinstagram #currentread

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune had me hooked! The characters were relatable, the plot kept me engaged, and the chemistry between Percy and Sam was undeniable. I truly believed I was reading a 4-star (or even 5-star) romance. Unfortunately, the ending fell flat. It felt rushed, frustrating, and unnecessary, leaving me completely unsatisfied. This disappointment brought my overall rating down to 2 stars. The ending left such a sour taste that Iโ€™m hesitant to pick up another romance novel for a while. Maybe itโ€™s time to return to the epic world of The Way of Kings! . . . . . #EverySummerAfter #CarleyFortune #bookreview #romancebooks #booklover #bookworm #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookish #whattoread #almostlovedit #disappointingending #backtofantasy #thereadinglife .
