I love meeting with book clubs so much. I try to accommodate every request to attend a meeting. Zoom helps with that. The chats about The Thing About Home have truly been the most rewarding that I've ever had. We talk about my inspiration for the book, the setting, the food, the history, and the characters. Granna is beloved all over and Nigel is everyone's new book boyfriend. ❤️ Are you a member of a book club? Have you ever been in a book club? Do you invite authors to your meetings? BTW, I'm booking meeting for Bitter and Sweet. I'd love to discuss my novel with your club. Book Review - The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight Things you may care about 👇🏾 💞 Women Fiction / Romance #️⃣ 384 pages (11:33 on audio) 🏖 Perfect reading for summer reading 👀 Single POV + Flashbacks 🔎 Left at the altar + Small town + Exploring family history Casey Black has planned the perfect wedding. And as a social media influencer, all eyes are on her big day. But unfortunately, when the groom decides he can not go through with the ceremony her world is flipped upside down. In desperate need of a place to lay low, Casey decides to head down to South Carolina’s Lowcountry to meet a side of the family that she’s never known. But what started as an excuse to get away turns into more. Her family has a rich history that she wants to learn about. She also unexpectedly becomes quick friends with the hot farm manager. Could life in the Lowcountry be enough for this social media star, or will she return to the bustling city she calls home? __ This book took me by surprise! I’ve seen this cover around but it didn’t really grab my attention. I had no idea what it was about but I saw a few bookish friends ( @briisbooked @blackbiracialandbookish and @amber.imagines ) talking about this on Threads so decided to listen on Libby. Casey is on a self-discovery journey. She is focused on rebuilding herself and learning more about her family’s history. It also dealt with the secrets families keep and the importance of telling generational stories. I’m not sure I’d call this a romance. It has a romance subplot but it did not feel like the focus of the book. I still found the romance sweet and loved watching the two MCs come together (also, there is zero spice so it’s safe for those of you who look for closed door books). I also loved the small-town element. The whole town felt like one big family. I could vividly picture everything that was happening and would love to see this as a movie! This was an enjoyable read and think it’s a perfect book for summer travels! McKnight has a new novel releasing in June that I’m excited to check out. __ Do you like books set in small towns?

I never get pictures. 🫣 I had a great event with the Friends of the Library at Sumter County Library. I took my pictures before it started, but the room filled all the way up. 🙂 That was a blessing on a rainy Sunday afternoon. We sold lots of books with Books-a-Million at Sumter Mall. Vanessa, the bookseller, has been such a champion of my books. She has a few left, so you can go grab one. Thanks to everyone who has supported me. #theThingAboutHome #southernwomensfiction #lowcountryfiction #librarycommunity #libraryprograms #sumtercountysc

The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight: Rating: 4.5⭐️s This book was chosen by my neighborhood book club, and I am THRILLED that I was able to read it! The MC Casey is an influencer whose online presence gets destroyed in an instant. When she escapes to South Carolina in order to discover more about her father’s people, she finds family and love that she had never know . Casey was such a likeable character, and I loved that this book was set in the South. I flew through this book easily because of how well it was written. The details of Casey’s ancestors/told in their perspective were beautifully done. If you’re looking for a good read about finding your home and history, I highly suggest this one. #thethingabouthome #rhondamcknight

The Thing About Home by @authorrhondamcknight 🏠…. If you’re looking for a story with Southern Charm✨ look no further. Casey Black begins a journey of self-discovery when her husband decides to call it quits minutes before their vow renewal. Casey is a social media influencer whose personal and now business lives are turned upside down when an embarrassing video is posted to her social media account. Deciding to escape from her day to day life and travel to South Carolina in hopes of finding long-lost family. Little does she know on this journey she will redefine her life, find family, love, and a legacy. My review: I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook. I really enjoyed how the author made Casey’s story realistic at the core. This book gave me all the feels, sometimes wanting to cry, laugh and just smile. And just reminded me life is short, take the time to find/ learn yourself and love on your people.✨💫 . . . #rhondamcknight #thethingabouthome #fiction #bookreview #romance #literature #africanamericanfiction #historicalfiction #audiobook

. 🔸 Book Cousins 🔸 I’ve never had cousins in my life, but I wish I did. They seem like people who share many things with you (family, history, appearance, etc.), but aren’t exactly like you or perhaps aren’t as close to you as a sibling. Recently I’ve noticed pairs of “book cousins” showing up in my reading life. Books that have many similarities but aren’t exactly the same story. I didn’t purposefully read these pairings for their commonalities - they just organically appeared. And I love that! Today I’m sharing four Book Cousin pairs. Have you read any of these novels? Have you noticed any Book Cousins in your recent reading?

☀️ WOMAN CRUSH WEDNESDAY Q: Do you like reading about places you’ve been to or will travel to? I do. Especially when the setting because a character in the story as well. •••••••••••••••• It’s Wednesday…I’m traveling to Charleston to meet up with friends and go to a signing and…it’s #womancrushwednesday When I saw my friends @servins98 and @justa_girlwithspirit posting about The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight I knew I had to read it. Since it’s set in South Carolina, it felt kismet. It’s not normally a book I’d automatically pick up, but I’m so glad I did. ‘Home’ is a story about a journey for an adult woman that really never got to live her life for herself. It’s a story of self discovery, of finding a piece of her past, her family, her culture and ultimately finding peace and love in unexpected places. I loved seeing Casey Black grow as a woman and I loved the family she got to know in her time in South Carolina. I liked how McKnight incorporated the past and the legacy of the Black family with the present. But the two pieces of the story that had my heart? Casey’s wise grandmother and Nigel, a man that worked the Black’s farm and was basically a part of the family. They saw who Casey truly was and I loved the way they opened Casey up to possibilities and another side of her. It was truly breathtaking. This is a love story of the land and of a person finding themselves and what HOME can truly mean. I loved all the characters and the way they fell into Casey’s life. A beautiful story that I highly recommend. Thank you Stacie and Korrie for putting it on my radar. *Book description in comments and full review on GR. • • #TheThingAboutHome #RhondaMcKnight #CaseyB #CaseyAndNigel #BlacksFarm #SecondChances #Bookstagrammer #BookLover #BookAddict #LoveStory #SouthCarolina #ReadersOfInstagram #BooksOfIG #BookEdit #ReadingTilTheBreakOfDawn @authorrhondamcknight

I enjoyed the Delicious Reads event sponsored by @hubcitywriters on Sunday. See all the great pictures I took? Did not take. 😭😭😂 Anyway, if you're in the Spartansburg, SC area, stop by @hubcitybookshop for a copy of The Thing About Home. They were kind enough to let me sign books for the store. This is me with dad before I left. He'd just filled up my tank and checked my tires. As I was leaving, he took out his wallet and asked, "Do you have money?" I said, "Dad, I'm good." I am forever his little girl, even at 58. This is the picture I needed to take. I'm camera shy, but I'll be getting more of these shots. He is what home feels like. ❤️❤️❤️ #theThingAboutHome

Casey goes home to Georgetown, South Carolina to visit her father’s side the Blacks family. She meets her 99 year old grandmother Granna for the first time. Casey is on a journey of heartbreak, family secrets, & self discovery. Just finished this book & it was so good. This book was about black farmers & the author shared her own family history. THE THING ABOUT HOME First of all, I want to thank @servins98 for being it this book to my attention. THANK YOU SO MUCH STACIE!!!! If y’all aren’t following her, she has THE BEST book recs, she cooks amazing food, and she’s just an incredible person. •••• This really set my book mood for the month of February. The romance element (while still present in all the books I read) kind of took a backseat for a bit. I found myself lost in books about family, faith, and finding yourself. This beautiful book was just what I needed!! •••• We meet Casey at her wits end. Her husband has left her alone at their vow renewal and work causes her to be the perfect version of herself that she just doesn’t feel anymore. Her public breakdown is the final straw. She is determined to find something different in visiting South Carolina where her paternal family resides. •••• I love, love, loved this book so much. It touched my heart. There are small town vibes and family ties that run deep. There are so many beautiful moments of discovery and building upon lost relationships. I also loved the food aspect of this one. Passing down recipes in my family is a huge deal and I was so happy reading about how Casey was able to feel close to the ones she loves through doing the same. I am envious that she took so well to planting and tending to the garden and farm work…that it soooo not me lol! But being able to recognize and carry on the important work of her family…so beautiful!!! •••• I found myself so emotional over the time lost. Casey deserved to feel that love and know those stories her ENTIRE LIFE. But at the same time, I know you can’t go back and change time. It was a gorgeous thing that she was led back home when she was. And to Nigel…oh my goodness, I loved seeing their relationship blossom. I love a country man. And he treats her SO WELL! Every time they were together I was giddy. •••• This book stole my heart, but I will always be Casey’s Grandma’s biggest fan. I love that woman and her heart. She doesn’t let the loss she’s experienced dictate how she loves her life: fully and without remorse. I love her so, SO much! •••• Happy Friday & Happy March 1st 🥰🫶🏻

The Thing About Home x Ronda McKnight 🏡 In the beginning of the book, we’re introduced to Casey Black, a former model turned social media influencer. Casey has planned a seven year vow renewal, which is to be filmed for her millions of fans, when suddenly, her husband pulls the rug from beneath her. Casey has a breakdown live on social media, which causes her to lose millions of followers and rethink her life. Casey is forced to reconcile the life she is living for attention, views and fame vs. a life of true happiness…. I finished this book in one day so that tells you how I feel about it. It had drama, enough suspense, mystery and a few hidden secrets. The pacing and plot were steady throughout. The dual timelines were done effortlessly and the characters development was well done. I really enjoyed the family history in this book, and learning about the history of the Black family. Imagine knowing your bloodline that far and being able to experience life on the farm your great grandparents created. Overall this was an amazing read. I love the message behind this story. You don’t know where you are going until you know where you came from, is clear. Also sometimes good things fall apart for better things to come together. Rhonda McKnight is a master storyteller. A well written read about finding yourself, and discovering your roots. P.S.Nigel is my new book bae ☺️ #womenfiction #rhondamcknight #thethingabouthome

Hello all!!! ☻ May your caffeine be strong & your Monday be short! 🤍 I wanted to start sharing more of my favorites on my feed & not just on stories. I read this book over the weekend & I could NOT put it down. This was such a warm, fuzzy, wrapped in love and southern comfort story. I really needed this book right now, & I’m so happy I didn’t put off reading it. Even though, I think I would’ve loved it at any point. But wow, this one just put me in a GOOD mood. I smiled, laughed, squealed, and happy sighed the entire way thru. Just as @briisbooked described it, this book felt like a warm grandma’s hug. I really needed that! Thank you so much for the suggestion. 😇 Casey’s story of finding her roots inspired me. I loved learning about her family history. So much so, I started to pull out MY family photo albums. Anyway, I just thought I’d share my love for this one! So good! Have a great day peeps! ✨ #bookreview #thethingabouthome #rhondamcknight

January Reading Wrap! This was a pretty good reading month and I enjoyed almost all the books I read. Top of the list is definitely The Thing About Home and The Neighbor Favor. The Marvellers was a really good YA book that gives Black Harry Porter vibes. I’ll be reading the second book soon. Happy Place was surprisingly really good. It’s a romance novel but I think the friendships were a bigger focal point. If you know me, you know I love Twilight and I finally tackled Midnight Sun. It was ok. If you’ve read the original Saga, this is every book in one but from Edward’s POV. The only book I didn’t really care for was Summer on the Bluffs. And the top books are all Grey Huffington. That is my girl!! She can do no wrong! #bookwrap #blackafbookstagram #blackbooks #bookstagram #greyhuffington #TheThingAboutHome #HappyPlace #NeighborFavor #TheMarvellers

Book 2 of the year, and the book we’re reading in Da Book Club ✨ I love when a book has a pretty cover, intriguing story that pulls you in from page one. Also the story is dramatic, romantic, slightly comical with a hint of historical fiction — now that’s my type of book lol. I’m not quite finish yet, I am enjoying this journey of soul searching through time and the south. I plan to read three books for January, so far it’s 2/3 and the month is almost over 😅 What are you reading this month? How many books have you read so far?

One of my classic faves is the first line of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by #cslewis - "There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it." Isn't that a great opener? One of my recent fave quotes is from THE THING ABOUT HOME by @authorrhondamcknight There are actually so many great quotes in that book but the one I've shared here is the quote that I'm still thinking about the most. "Unprepared soil never grows a good harvest... You have to make your heart good ground for the next season of your life." It reminds me of a @bethmoorelpm quote from the Believing God study, referencing the times when God gets rid of the chaff in our lives - "We've got places to go and this isn't coming with us." That's another one that has lingered with me no matter than it's been at least 15 years since I first heard it. When you are in a current season - or, more specifically, in the transition period between seasons, do you focus on preparing the soil of your heart for what God wants to do next? I confess that I never had much before that Believing God study but it has served me well so many times since. And yet, we forget, don't we? When we're in a long season - whether good or bad - we get settled in and we forget to keep tilling the soil of our heart, as McKnight references, so that our next harvest is a good one. I was grateful for this reminder when I read THE THING ABOUT HOME and am trying to be intentional this year about making my heart 'good ground' as much as depends on me & with Jesus' help for the rest. By the way, if you haven't read THE THING ABOUT HOME yet, you are really missing out. Such a fantastic book. You can find my review on my blog (check my bio) - search for the book's title in the 'find your fave' section once you get there. | 🄱🄾🄾🄺 🅁🄴🅅🄸🄴🅆 | The Thing About Home by @authorrhondamcknight Pub Date: 5/9/23 It’s cold outside over here so I thought I’d post about a book that warmed my soul last year. Review: This book is a big, comfy grandma hug, and it was everything I didn’t know I needed or expected. Readers looking for a small town comfort read can look no further. The book starts out with Casey Black, a seemingly superficial influencer who only cares about one thing, and that’s her persona. Everything changes when she is basically left at the altar and left to face the reality that maybe she hasn’t been true to herself, which leads us on a journey to self-discovery. Casey finds herself in Georgetown, South Carolina, in search of her dad’s side of her family. What started out as a search for family turned into much more Granna, Nigel, and the people of Georgetown turned into her safe haven. I loved reading about Granna and Casey’s relationship making up for lost time. I was excited when Casey got her HEA with Nigel after that horrible so-called husband (standing by that one). The dual timelines were done effortlessly, and the Southern cooking references have me ready to learn the recipes. I have no complaints about this story, honestly; it flowed so well for me. Apart from the heartwarming story, this book tackled a topic that is present in society today. The fixation on social media and how that obsession can affect our lives the story had depth, and it was covered in faith. I would highly recommend this one. THE THING ABOUT HOME by Rhonda McKnight Social media influencer Casey Black is having a really bad day. Just before her sponsored vow renewal ceremony that is being live-streamed, her husband of seven years tells her that he's not participating. In a questionable state, Casey makes things worse by posting an emotional and blunt video that goes viral and costs her thousands of followers. Never really knowing her dad or his family, Casey leaves New York City to find her Dad's family in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Learning life lessons from her 100-year-old grandmother and the journal of her great-grandmother, Casey discovers her family and her place among them. I love Southern fiction and this was no exception. The story is told from the perspective of a Black family whose ancestors were once enslaved. Those same ancestors managed to later buy the land and run a family farm. As someone who works in genealogy and history, I was really taken with this story of discovering your "people" and how much value was placed on multi-generational relationships. The story was sweet and, yes, there is romance included! #TheThingAboutHome #RhondaMcKnight #ThomasNelsonBooks #SouthernFiction #DiverseVoices #SouthCarolina #Lowcountry #FamilyStories #NewFiction #Fiction #Audiobook #LibroFM #Bookstagram #IgBooks #LibraryLife #Librarian

✨❤️I loved this book. It was short (a little over 3 hours audio read) and sweet. If you’re looking for a Christian fiction read + romance + sprinkles of drama, this is the book. At the end, I cried a little. The characters were realistic and the overall storyline worked for me. . What I'm readin' now! #TheThingAboutHome by @authorrhondamcknight Description: Home is not a place—it’s a feeling. Casey Black needs an escape. When her picture-perfect vow renewal ceremony ends in her being left at the altar, the former model turned social media influencer has new fame—the kind she never wanted. An embarrassing viral video has cost her millions of followers, and her seven-year marriage is over. With her personal and business lives in shambles, Casey runs from New York City to South Carolina’s Lowcountry hoping to find long-lost family. Family who can give her more answers about her past than her controlling mom-slash-manager has ever been willing to share. What Casey doesn’t expect is a postcard-worthy property on a three-hundred-acre farm, history, culture, and a love of sweet tea. She spends her days caring for the land and her nights cooking much needed Southern comfort foods. She also meets Nigel, the handsome farm manager whose friendship has become everything she’s never had. And then there are the secrets her mother can no longer hide. Through the pages of her great-grandmother’s journals, Casey discovers her roots run deeper than the Lowcountry soil. She learns that she has people. A home. A legacy to uphold. And a great new love story—if only she is brave enough to leave her old life behind. #whatchareadin📚📖📰📃 #bookclub #ilovebooks #bookstagram #bookblogger #bookclub #20booksbyblackwomen #20booksbyblackfolx #omnilegent #browngirlswrite #browngirlsread

𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: The Thing About Home  . 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫: Rhonda McKnight . 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬: 384 .  𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞: “The days have been dark, and the times are hard, but there has always been love, even before Freedom. Find love and keep it. It’s the only thing that no man or woman can take away.” . 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: If a book can make me cry, 9 times out of 10, it’s getting five stars. I clearly need to read more books by Rhonda McKnight, because she is an excellent writer. Rhonda did a great job connecting the reader with the characters. First scene is a woman being stood up on her wedding day? My emotions were raging during the first couple of chapters. This story leads us on a journey to South Carolina where the main character is trying to piece together her family history (father’s side) and she stumbles across several secrets. . 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤? Family drama, family history, forgiveness, grandmotherly wisdom, and lots of love. #TheThingAboutHome by #RhondaMcKnight I really enjoyed this read 🥹…Casey is a former model turned very successful social media influencer who gets left at the altar for her vow renewal. This sends her on a journey to Lowcountry South Carolina where she meets her paternal family, The Blacks. I left this read wanting to visit South Carolina and wishing I could pull up a seat at the table with the Blacks’ for some Gullah Geechee food. I think my favorite part of this read was the glances into the past through the eyes of Casey’s ancestors. So this read was part historical fiction, contemporary romance etc. So well written and really brings the reader in. Themes of redemption, reinvention, family etc 5/5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #gullahgeechee #gullahgullahisland #lowcountryliving #southcarolina #sundayreads #sundayreading

Book Review: The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight • Book Length: 380 pages • My Review: I love books with a main character returning to their roots and discovering their family line. This book’s protagonist, Casey, was forced to slow down and reevaluate her life. Unfortunately, her being jilted at the alter and feeling like she had to prove herself to her million social media followers drove her to her family’s home. I struggled with how I felt about Casey, given that I thought some of her issues were self-imposed. Still, I loved her father’s family and learning about the generations of family members keeping homes, lands, and businesses in the family line. Sadly, I found her relationship with her mother to be authentic and realistic; however, I found the relationship between she and Nigel to be forced and not authentic. I read this by ebook and audiobook. I didn't enjoy the narrator of the audiobook much, but I do think the author did an excellent job of storytelling. • #blackgirlreads #booknerd #read #reading #hoopla #libby #blackbookstagram #booktok #bookstagram #ilovebooks #readingrocks #books #ilovereading #readingnurse #thethingabouthome #booksta

🎵When I think of home I think of a place where there’s love overflowing🎶 (Diana or Pam (Martin) version? IYKYK ‌ This picture worked out so coincidentally perfect! I had a completely different idea for this post, but I just so happened to capture it with these lovely calla Lilys and just happened to go find a “wedding cake” cupcake with a Calla Lilly. Little things like that make me so giddy!! ‌ This book also made me happy. It was like getting a big, warm hug from my great aunt who passed in 2021 and my belated grandmother all in one. 🥺 It was delicious and I ate it all up! ‌ We follow Casey Black after she’s jilted at the alter … following an epic social media meltdown 👅, she decides to get out of town. Her voyage leads her to South Carolina to family she’s never known. ‌ I had so many thoughts, but so many others have already shared my sentiments. I mean, what can you say? It solidifies that this story was just… everything! ‌ The story was like a breath of fresh air, so much love and warmth poured into it. I loved the characters, I loved all of the family secrets, history, legacy, love and acceptance! I loved the descriptions of the soul foods, lush lands and deep love from the community. And Granna was the cherry on top! I know Casey’s mom got a lot of flack, but she was human and humans screw up. She gave drama! ‌ I loved the forethought that Grandpa Black had 90+ years ago to buy land to set up roots for his family. And to see it thrive & flourish over the years. A place for the family to come home to! ‌ The only thing that kinda bothered me is why was it so hard for Casey to take a step back from influencer life to nurture her marriage in the first place? Once it was over, she let it go so easily. Guess sometimes things have to happen a certain way to get what you need most! ‌ I was glad to read this one as a buddy read with an amazing group of ladies and for the first time, I believe we ALL loved it! Great discussion, great story, great narration!! ‌ ☕️: 5⭐️ ‌ 𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲? 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? My family is small, and my dad’s family had a reunion last month that was nice!!

✨66 The Thing About Home 💎💎💎💎 Initially was reading on my own, but it ended up being a buddy read 🥰 This is the third book I've read about the lowcountry and I think I may have to take a trip. Sometimes you have to leave home, to find home for real. Both of Casey's situations broke my heart for her. I'm glad she was able to find redemption for both of them. Where can I find me a Nigel? Are they only in SC? And this story shows just how powerful social media has become in our society. It literally will consume the essence of what being a human being is, if you let it. And Mama? Def gave me Lynn Whitfield vibes. #TheThingAboutHome x @authorrhondamcknight #wellreadblackgirl #wellreadmujer #decolonizeyourbookshelf #bookrecs #bipocbookstagram #bookish #bookcommunity #fyp #TBR #bookstoread #bookishvibes #audiobooks #bookaestheic #nospoilers #bibliophile #whatimreading #whatiread #bookworm #blackwomenauthors

📚🤓Book Thoughts: The Thing About Home My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Normally, when I finish a book, I enter my thoughts in my reading journal, then jump right into my next one. Let me tell you, this book has entered the ranks of my top favorite reads of all time. On the surface, it's a book about self-discovery, but dig a little deeper, and you'll find it's so richly full with historical and ancestral connections that it requires all of your senses and attention. I had to take a day and just sit with the stories and truly marvel at the experience @authorrhondamcknight created. New favorite author alert?? Highly possible. IT'S. THAT. GOOD! Attached are some of my highlights and annotations. *Please note, these are my "during reading" notes, and, yes, I sometimes laugh out loud and talk back to characters, so... you've been warned!
