🥂HAD MY SHARE🥂 There’s times for living in our queen status and then there’s time for making sacrifices that serve us and the whole for the better. I’ve entered into a season of letting go and shedding. We all have different books of our lives that many won’t know as we enter new ones. When I was in my early 20s, even late teens, I adopted a raw vegan diet and stopped drinking and using ‘medicine’ aka, drugs of any kind. It was on the heels of several dedicated years in the SF rave scene and I’d met a little niche of trance Djs and dance floor diehards who quote ‘loved the music not the drugs’, I was hooked. I spent a decade on the vegan diet and 2 years raw, also during the decade I enjoyed sobriety. It wasn’t until my late 20s I reintroduced my love for wine and began eating the occasional piece of fish or cheese, I’d also built a successful brand as a private chef in LA and was getting more requests to prepare meat, it was an evolution that not only cleansed and healed me but gave me an incredible skill set and amazing experiences. In the last years I’ve consumed more meat and dairy while still keeping my diet plant forward but after watching You are what you Eat on @netflix I was reminded if not abruptly as to why it’s critical during this time to refrain. It’s not only the compelling evidence that the industries are destroying our future but the studies finding that it actually reverses aging. I’m dedicating the next month to a clean vegan diet as well as living alcohol free. I’m excited to try @getzeroproofed and also return to my creative space in the kitchen daily living alone again where I can make my best dietary choices. I’ll be sharing recipes on my story. I understand that not everyone enjoys food tracking. However, whether it’s your preference or not, it proves to be one of the most effective ways to gain insights into your eating habits. In the past, our ancestors didn’t face the challenge of navigating through an abundance of tempting, high-calorie options like those offered by Chic-Fil-A and McDonald’s, just a tap away with ApplePay. While our biology remains unchanged, the modern era presents us with constant access to enticing food. You have two choices: commit to consuming only natural whole foods, requiring significant discipline, or opt for a balanced approach that involves learning restraint and moderation. Many find success in the latter path, but understanding why some foods demand more moderation comes with tracking your intake. The benefit is that tracking isn’t a perpetual requirement; I, for instance, haven’t consistently tracked my food in four months, doing so only when aiming to shed a few pounds. My diet primarily consists of lean protein, fruits, veggies (especially greens), and fibrous carbs, making it easier to regulate daily calorie intake. Tracking has equipped me with the moderation skills needed when indulging in less nutritious “fun” foods. People often say that counting calories doesn't work, but the problem is usually that people aren't measuring their intake correctly. Without realizing it, mindless eating, snacks here and there, and meals that aren't planned well can all add up to extra calories. A lot of people report wrongly or underestimate their calorie intake by 10–20%, and sometimes even up to 50%, according to research. Also, food labels give a lot of room for error when they say how many calories something has—up to 20–30%. A food item that says it has 400 kcals might actually have 480 kcals, which is a big difference. People have trouble with portion sizes even when they aren't keeping very detailed records. They often accidentally double servings or make huge portions. Studies show that people who keep track of what they eat are more likely to reach their weight loss and body composition goals. Even though you don't have to keep track of your food all the time, starting to do so can teach you about it and raise your awareness for long-term success. People who are good at keeping their weight off often make routines and habits out of eating the same things over time and getting used to the sizes of their meals. With practice and new skills, it is possible to move toward more intuitive eating patterns that lead to long-lasting results. When trying to lose fat, keeping things simple and organized can help you make better food choices with less chance of making mistakes. Precision in tracking isn't always possible, and tracking all the time isn't always necessary. But at first, keeping a tight grip on the variables helps figure out the best strategies. As a child, I struggled with being slightly overweight, and with that, I was diagnosed with High Cholesterol at the age of 7-8. Since that scary diagnosis, it was hard to be told you couldn’t eat what other kids could, and eventually it struck to me that being overweight was what “caused” the High Cholesterol. At the age 11, I noticed a slight change in weight and being reminded of my childhood, did everything to get rid of it. I skipped meals, or even threw up some, but eventually I was “happy” with the weight loss. I received help during those times to change my mindset. Now the world has changed and I’ve become happier with how I look and with my weight, but even with happiness, something always happens. At the age of 17, I was again, diagnosed with High Cholesterol. Healthy foods have changed and evolved and even grew to a point that almost everyone loves that healthy life style, and for the past week I have too. I’ve been remembering my little self, but I know she’s sad to know that even through the pain we still deal with this issue, but we can now accept and get rid of it, just like we did the first time.
