✨Spoiler free Book review✨ 📚Author: Brigid Kremmerer 📚Genre: YA Fantasy 📚 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 📚Chapter Length: Medium We have two POV’s that follow Tessa and Prince Corrick throughout the story as they both try to navigate the different issues that are happening for each of them. The twists came early on and i thought it would start to feel predictable but i was totally wrong and events happened that i was really not expecting! It has equal parts romance, rebellion and intrigue to keep you invested and turning them pages. I really enjoyed the relationship between Harristan and Corrick, along with some of the other characters but Quint is definitely my fav! From reading the first chapter i was instantly reminded on how similar a story this is to the prison healer by Lynette Noni and if you enjoyed those then i would say you will enjoy this series! Towards the end it did start to slowly feel like it was being dragged out and probably could have ended up being 50 pages shorter and the ending was a little bit of a let down but overall i had a grand time and look forward to reading the 2nd book. Malheureusement ceux-ci sont morts ils y a quelques années car ils avaient acheté des pétales de fleur-de-lune à un contrebandier. La fleur-de-lune est leur seul espoir pour guérir d'une étrange fièvre qui sévi sur le royaume depuis plusieurs années. 🌷 Tessa a repris le flambeau de ses parents et dérobe aux riches des précieux pétales pour fabriquer des potions pour les plus pauvres qu'elle distribue avec un jeune homme mystérieux... Mais le royaume va mal, la révolution approche et tout va très vite être chamboulé dans la vie de Tessa ! . 🌙 Je suis super contente de me lancer dans une nouvelle série de Brigid Kemmerer car j'avais adoré ce précédente série qui commençait par un sort si noir et éternel. Déjà on peut vraiment apprécier la jaspage qui est juste sublime ! Ce roman plein d'aventure peut faire un peu penser au mythe de robin des bois. J'ai adoré Tessa qui est très courageuse. Każdy walczy o przetrwanie, każdy po swojemu, w innym miejscu i okolicznościach. Niebezpieczeństwo czai się za każdym rogiem, lecz także… Miłość i to w najbardziej nieoczekiwanych chwilach. Wierzcie mi, nie jesteście gotowi na tę książkę. Ja też nie byłam, oj, zdecydowanie nie byłam. Jest to zakończenie, na które zasługiwała ta seria, niesamowite, wręcz majstersztyk – Quint zapisz, proszę, to słowo. Przygotujcie się jednak na emocjonalny rollercoaster i zaopatrzcie w tony chusteczek. Na początku chciałam pochwalić dopięcie wszystkich wątków, a było ich sporo i w tym tomie doszło jeszcze więcej. Często były to rozwiązania nieoczywiste, nieszablonowe, a co najważniejsze, każdy dokładnie wytłumaczony. Czapki z głów! Strach, nerwy, niepewność – to są emocje, które towarzyszą przez całą historię. Bardzo jednak doceniam ilość humoru w książce. Nawet w chwilach trudnych, kiedy już niemal odwodniłam się od łez, nagle autorka wtrąciła coś na rozładowanie napięcia: zabawnego, wywołującego choć mimowolny uśmiech. Były też momenty niesamowicie urocze, kiedy moje serce dosłownie się rozpuszczało. Aż nastał ogromny ból, bo to, co się wydarzyło, rozbiło mnie całkowicie. Zniszczyło. „If he keeps going, there’s a chance I’ll reveal any secret, swear to any oath, and offer him the entire kingdom”. Ilość wątków miłosnych jest niesamowita. Każdy inny, lecz równie piękny i uroczy. Gdzieś w tym wszystkim zgubiło się moje uwielbienie dla uczucia między Tessą i Corrickiem, ale to nic, bo z zapartym tchem śledziłam resztę. Intryga intrygę pogania, w pewnym momencie każda z nich ma swoją własną. Fabuła nie zwalnia, a każdy z bohaterów musi coś wymyślić, żeby przetrwać. Przeżyć. Wrócić do domu. No i uratować bliskich. Kocham Harristana. Kocham Quinta. To są takie dwa słoneczka w tym tomie, które rozświetlają mrok. Rian i Sallister… Jak ja ich nienawidzę. Zakończenie zmiotło mnie z planszy zupełnie. Czuję, że nie pozbieram się po tym nigdy. Ilość łez, które wylałam jest wręcz niepoliczalna. Ocena? 13/10!

Book 19/35 - Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer A YA political fantasy that focuses heavily on the moral pressures of leadership and complications of the heart. While many of the plot twists were predictable, it was still a very enjoyable read. I especially appreciated the author grappling with political and economic limitations that are often disregarded in YA books. I did find the central relationship to be compelling, as well as the relationship between Corrick and Harristan. I will say that while this is a fantasy, there isn't really magic, but I feel like the completely imagined world makes it impossible to call it anything but fantasy, just so you know what to expect if you read it. Buddy Read: Forging Silver Into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer This is the third series I’ve read and she hasn’t disappointed me yet! Her books are always perfect for when I’m looking for some easy to follow fantasy with some fun storylines. Brigid’s stories tend to be on the slower side, but I love her character development. Love all her characters! This series feels particularly angsty! - V I probably should have read the Cursebreaker trilogy first, as this book is set four years later and does contain spoilers for the previous series. 🪻🌷MAY HOPEFULS 🌷🪻 OR.....What I like to call the chaos that is my TBR..... QOTD: What are you hoping to read this month? I clearly am not planning on reading ALL of these books this month, but I'm also a little confused on how to proceed. I've been trying very hard not to set a monthly TBR and just let my mood reader pick as I go! So far, it's been enjoyable. But, I got a few books from the library yesterday, and one of them has a hold on it, so I have to read it this month or return it unread. That makes things a little complicated when I'm in the middle of a SIX book plus novellas series! So, here are my chaotic thoughts for my May TBR: I'm for sure going to finish UNRAVEL ME, UNITE ME, and read IGNITE ME by @tahereh! I'm really enjoying this series so far! Now here's where it gets tricky.... I could just continue through the rest of the series and read RESTORE ME, FIND ME, DEFY ME, IMAGINE ME, and BELIEVE ME, all by @tahereh! And that would take up my May. Or....I could take a break before finishing the last three books, since there seems to be a significant pause in writing time between books 3 and 4. (This idea also feels slightly stressful to me!) So the rest of the stack are books I could read in between: THE BONE HOUSES and THE DROWNED WOODS by @em_llojo - I've been wanting to read these for awhile now! And, then there's DEFEND THE DAWN and DESTROY THE DAY by @brigidkemmerer - I'm currently listening to the audiobook of DEFY THE NIGHT to remind myself of the story before I finish the series. (Also a library hold of mine that came in, hence why I'm listening to it now in the middle of everything. 😂) So, do I jump to this series once I finish the audiobook?? Anyway, if you've made it this far in my ramblings, any suggestions? Read thru the entire Shatter Me series or take a break? Anyone else have a TBR that is just as chaotic?

Je crois que c'est pour cela que j'ai mis autant de temps à le lire. Il a réussi a combler mes espérances, j'ai adoré ! Une lecture captivante, j'ai eut un peu de mal à suivre le rythme, trop absorbée par ma lecture et bim je lisais plus de chapitre que prévu... 😅 C'est un récit à double points de vues. Celui de Grey et Lia Mara. J'appréhende toujours un peu ce genre. Je n'aime pas relire la même scène avec le point de vu de l'autre personnage. Je trouve cela redondant, mais l'autrice à bien fait les choses. On a pas le temps de s'ennuyer ni de voir les chapitres défiler. J'ai détesté Rhen jusqu'à la fin mais maintenant je l'aime à nouveau !! Il faut aller jusqu'au bout pour comprendre ses choix. Ce tome 2 est fabuleux, on quitte le conte réécrit de la Belle et la Bête pour une suite totalement improbable. L'histoire de Grey et Lia Mara est Sublime. Un amour interdit par la reine de la Passe de Syhl qui est prête à tout pour assoir son autorité sur son peuple, les royaumes à côté et ses filles ! Une Reine dure, impitoyable, féroce, sanguinaire, elle n'a aucune compassion et règne par la terreur. C'est une saga que je vous recommande. Je ne vais pas attendre aussi longtemps pour lire la suite. Lecture commune prévu le 13 mai pour le tome 3 ! Sunt cărți pe care le parcurg, doar pentru a înțelege ce e cu tot "hype-ul" creat în jurul lor și nu ajung la nivelul așteptărilor mele. Și altele care mă fascinează până la ultima pagină și nu se compară cu restul. "Rebelii nopții", lectura mea curentă, este o carte cum nu am mai citit de multă vreme. Mi-a fost dor de tensiunea bine dozată, de personajele frumos conturate, de cumulul de emoții. Povestea este scrisă în jurul unei boli misterioase care afectează regatul și a unui elixir greu de obținut, fiind obținut din Floarea-Lunii care se găsește doar în două sectoare din regat. Normal că cei mai bogați sunt privilegiați, iar oamenii de rând au de suferit. Dar pentru asta sunt rebelii nopții, care sunt în stare să treacă prin foc pentru a-i salva pe cei sărmani. Așadar, Kandala este în pragul dezastrului. Conflictele dintre diferitele sectoare ale regatului s-au înmulțit de când o boala a început să facă ravagii, iar singurul leac cunoscut este limitat. Regele reușește să păstreze o pace firavă, conducându-și supușii cu o mână de fier. În Ținuturile Sălbatice, Tessa și cel mai bun prieten al ei, Wes, s-au săturat să fie doar martori la suferința semenilor lor. Noapte de noapte, cei doi își riscă viețile pentru a fura petale de Floarea‑Lunii și a pregăti din ele medicamentul salvat. Dar nu e suficient! Zvonurile cum că leacul nu mai are efectul știut, dar și veștile despre revolta care stă să izbucnească, precum și o faptă plină de cruzime a Legiuitorului Regelui o aduc pe Tessa în pragul disperării. Je suis à nouveau tombée sous le charme des protagonistes 🌸, dont la construction creusée et approfondie les rend d’autant plus réels et attachants. J'ai apprécié l'évolution de la romance ❤️ qui empiète beaucoup sur l’histoire. • Le personnage de Corrick est interessant : on le hait 💨 du point de vue de Tessa tout en essayant de le comprendre quand c'est lui qui tient les rênes de l'histoire ☀️. Il nous pousse à nous questionner sur ce qui est bien, juste et légitime de faire dans sa situation 💭. I am beyond obsessed with this trilogy! It has been a long time since I have read a series where every single book was a 5 star read, but this series absolutely was! @brigidkemmerer writes such dimensional characters that are flawed yet you can’t help but care so deeply for them. It has also been a great while since I have read a series with so many characters that I was so invested in (I can think of like 8 off the top of my head lol). I think about them and their stories on a daily basis. Defy The Night is a Robin Hood retelling that follows Tessa, a daughter of an apothecary. She lives in the Wilds, a more rural section of a kingdom that is suffering from a mysterious illness. They don’t know where it came from or how it spreads but a tonic can be made from the moonflower plant to help with the symptoms. But it is expensive and the poor are suffering so Tessa and her outlaw friend Wes steal some of this moonflower from the wealthy and distribute it to the One night, after a distribution run, Wes doesn’t come back and it appears he has been caught and killed by the night patrol for smuggling moonflower. Tessa, in her grief, sneaks her way into the palace with intent to kill the king but is caught and thrown in the hold. J’ai passé un excellent moment de lecture avec ses histoires de guerre, d’alliance, de magie. le roman se termine avec d’importantes révélation qui laisse le lecteur sur sa faim! ✨Book review: A vow so bold and deadly by Brigid Kemmerer✨ “I forget that the world can narrow down to two people, a moment of vulnerability and trust. To a moment of love that seems to outshine the rest.” A vow so bold and deadly (4⭐️) is book 3 of the A curse so dark and lonely series. While I absolutely LOVED ACSDAL (5⭐️), enjoyed A heart so fierce and broken (4.5⭐️) I wasn’t as in love and invested with this one. I also couldn’t care less about one of the characters 😬 but Brigid Kemmerer’s writing has a way of making you care even when you don’t. It has this magical way of pulling you in to the story. I feel like I could read her grocery list and still think “wow” The storyline/plots in this one were still very much great and it was a great conclusion to the trilogy, I just wished we saw less of … one person. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loved Defy the night, who loves Beauty and the beast reimaginings, YA, adventure, magic, wicked witch. A Curse So Dark And Lonely - Brigid Kemmerer (Cursebreakers #1) I really enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It’s been a while since I’ve read a YA fantasy that I enjoyed like this. It didn’t feel super young to me, maybe that’s why. The parallel world was neat but I wanted more explanation on it. It was barely brushed over at one point. And the “heir” plot twist was good. Kind of felt more of a romantic connection with Harper and Grey than with Rhen. I wonder if that’ll be explored more in the next book. Would be such a good twist if they actually fell in love because it’s not what you would expect! Harper is a strong, female lead. She doesn’t let her disability hold her back and she doesn’t take shit from anyone. L'intrigue nous transporte au Royaume de Kandala, où sévit une fièvre ravageuse de laquelle seuls les plus riches peuvent se soigner. Tessa est une jeune apothicaire qui, chaque nuit, aidée par Wes, son compagnon d'infortune, s'introduit dans les hautes sphères afin de se procurer l'unique remède permettant aux plus indigents d'obtenir les mêmes chances de survie que les plus fortunés. Mais tandis que la colère gronde, et que la maladie vole de plus en plus de vies, Tessa va se retrouver confrontée au Prince Corrick, celui-là même qu'elle déteste pour favoriser la branche aisée du royaume, et, ensemble, ils vont devoir trouver un compromis dans le but de faire taire la révolte et de sauver Kandala. Après plusieurs pages durant lesquelles je trouvais les personnages trop convenus et l'histoire relativement plate, j'ai finalement été embarquée par l'élément déclencheur de ce récit, qui a su me cueillir au meilleur moment. Dès lors, mon point de vue sur les personnages a changé, et j'ai tout de suite plus apprécié la fougue de Tessa, le mystère de Wes et la froideur du Prince Corrick. Je me suis davantage attachée à eux, à leurs liens, et au rôle que chacun avait à apporter à cette trame très chevaleresque où l'objectif principal est de porter les petites gens. Un aspect très Robin des Bois qui apporte au prince une profonde dualité, puisque celui-ci est tiraillé entre les grands du royaume et le peuple qu'il doit guider aux côtés de son frère, le roi Harristan. La relation entre les deux frères est très touchante, l'autrice sait mettre les mots sur la fragilité de leurs échanges, la tension palpable qui en découle, accentuant ainsi même la force de leur amour fraternel. Et la force du récit réside, selon moi, en ce tableau des sentiments qui met en relation les protagonistes avec des personnages plus secondaires, créant une vraie ronde des émotions. Celle-ci est amplifiée par l'alternance des chapitres, qui permet au lecteur de suivre les ressentis de Tessa, puis de pouvoir comprendre ceux du prince. 🔜🔜🔜
Duologie de Brigid Kemmerer Ces deux livres ont des personnages communs, mais les points de vus sont différents. Il n'est donc pas forcément nécessaire de lire les deux. Des caractères vraiment différents, des vies et des drames totalement différents également, et pourtant ; la vie a décidé de les lier et non pas sans conséquences. Pour ces personnages la vie connaît plus que des hauts et des bas, ce sont carrément des torrents qui les bouleversent. Mais c'est sans compter sur la renclntre des uns et des autres que leur vie en devient plus lumineuse et l'herbe plus verte ( merci Declan pour la tonte ). Ces deux livres m'ont plus, même si j'ai moins apprécié le tome 2 avec qui j'ai eu cette impression de longueur à certains endroits. Cependant les découvertes au fil de mes lectures m'ont fait tout de même apprécier ces deux bouquins, avec légèreté, suivi d'un poil de drama, pour finir dans la joie. Deux bonnes lectures dont le second m'a un peu déçu, mais qui je vous recommande tout de même. Usually flawless, however this one left me feeling forced into the direction we needed it to take, rather than skillfully lead down the path. A lot of the plot felt like it was unnecessary and came off as a bit vanilla at times. We were all waiting on the romantic aspects, especially since the first two were quite heavy on those. Having the two main love interests separated like they were for at least 75-80% of the book definitely left me feeling like I'd been cheated out of the warming love story that is Tessa and Corrick. I feel that while Harristan deserved some time during this book, it read more like a book from his side, which is what made it so disjointed from the first two in the trilogy. It became apparent towards the end that this series would be better off as a duology. With all that being said, Lochlan carried most of this one on his back and I would absolutely love to see a new spin off from his point of view! Previous recommendations also place this acceptable for the younger end of the YA category, but after this one - definitely recommended for older fans as this one touches a lot of topics and content not suited for the younger crowds. Perfect for fans of older Young Adult fantasy and political intrigue. The third and final book in the Defy The Night series. I didn't expect the turnout, the plot twist and ending for sure. Sometimes you simply cannot trust those who have been around you and those who were there before you. Some of them wished you the worst things. Betrayals often comes from those who were close to you, right? Harristan and Corrick learned many things about Kandala, the previous Kings and Consuls when they were apart. They learned and lived with the people, earned their trusts and supports. In Ostriary, Tessa met another heir to the throne and becane friends. They learned mamy things about the current King too. W trzecim tomie dostajemy odpowiedzi na pytania z pierwszego. I nie, między nimi nie było tylko pożądania. Była miłość, która została tak mocno zakorzeniona w ich jestestwie, że ciągnęło ich do siebie mimo, że rzucono zaklęcie pętające, mimo tego, że pamiętali tylko fragmenty przeszłości, mimo klątwy. Razem byli w stanie skruszyć mury piekła, przeciąć świat na pół, oddać wszystko co mają. Dumny demon, Pan Piekieł i ona bogini Furii. Tak bardzo zakochani. Tak mocno wierzący, że wspólnie dadzą radę. Zoom sur - The cursebreakers - Rageot Bienvenue dans cette revisite du conte de « La Belle et La Bête ». Alors qu’elle se trouve un soir dans les rues de Washington, Harper se trouve témoin d’une tentative d’enlèvement. N’écoutant que son courage, elle tente de s’interposer. Mais si la victime se trouve sauver, le kidnappeur décide finalement d’emmener la jeune femme avec lui. Harper arrive ainsi dans un lieu tout à fait inédit : un véritable château enchanté. Sauf que celui-ci ne compte que deux habitants : Grey, le kidnappeur, officiellement commandant de la garde, et Rhen, le séduisant prince du royaume. Coincée dans ce nouveau lieu, la jeune femme prend le temps de découvrir ce lieu inédit, et surtout, sur la malédiction qui le touche. Cette saga fut un réel coup de cœur. Le royaume d’Emberfall est très vaste. Mais le principal point fort reste, à mon sens, les personnages, qu’ils soient principaux ou secondaire. Ils ont chacun leur point fort et leur part d’ombre, et leurs doutes. Par exemple, Harper est en situation de handicap. Sa force de caractère est impressionnante. Elle est courageuse face aux événements qui se présentent, mais elle montre une grande volonté pour s’adapter aux contraintes de ce nouveau royaume. But now that we’re here, time to read!! • If you don’t remember, I love this trilogy (well the first 2 books!) and the 2nd I read on my honeymoon last year (also in Vegas!) so it was only fitting I brought the series conclusion with me on this short trip. •Défier la nuit• Dans le Secteur Sauvage de Kandala, Tessa, une apprentie apothicaire, brave l’autorité royale chaque nuit pour concocter un élixir à base de pétales de fleur-de-lune, seul remède contre une mystérieuse fièvre ravageant la population démunie. Pendant ce temps, au palais, le Prince Corrick, justice du roi, doit maintenir l’ordre face à la menace d’une rébellion imminente. Si l’histoire demarrait plutôt bien, malheureusement, ça s’essouffle très rapidement avec une intrigue plus que prévisible (zéro surprise) et un rythme en dent de scie. Cependant, un point positif réside dans la petite romance qui est douce et mignonne, sans aucune scène spicy, offrant une petite bouffée d’air frais dans un genre souvent saturé de passages explicites. Malheureusement, l’univers de l’histoire reste peu développé, nous laissant sans réponse sur la mystérieuse maladie et sur l’univers en général. C’est donc une lecture mitigée pour moi, qui démarrait fort mais a peiné à maintenir son élan… N’ayant pas non plus apprécié plus que ça « un sort si noir et éternel » je pense simplement que les livres de cette auteure ne me correspondent pas! 💌 Vous l’avez lu? J’ai juste adoré un Sort si Noir et Éternel et les deux tomes qui ont suivi. Quand j’ai appris l’existence de ce nouveau livre j’ai courue en librairie !! Je n’ai pas eu un aussi gros coup de coeur que pour son autre saga mais je dois dire que Défier la Nuit est juste excellent aussi ! J’adore cet univers fantastique, à la conte de fée… il m’a enchantée ✨ Corrick et Tessa m’ont pas mal rappelé Rhen et Harper et ça m’a franchement plu. Je suis tombée in love du prince Corrick ! Sa personnalité, son histoire… tout est parfait. Comme dans SNE, j’adore l’alchimie entre les personnages et les pointes d’humour. Sa relation avec son frère Harristan est vraiment touchante. Ce dernier et Quint sont aussi de super personnages. J’ai vraiment aimé ce groupe ! J’ai été définitivement conquise par le livre à la deuxième partie. Nerds - I know we keep it pretty silly around here, but I am hoping you will share this post far and wide to bring awareness to what’s needed for people living with disabilities or chronic illnesses that attend book festivals (or any event, for that matter!) A few festivals this week have been less than accommodating when it comes to making their events inclusive. As someone living with RA, I take this very seriously. I generally “look” healthy and struggle to ask for accommodations, but we must demand what we need from these events. We wouldn’t be expected to eat a food we are allergic to, so why shouldn’t we expect our other needs to be met? 🏰 - Défier La Nuit - Brigid Kemmerer Service de presse reçu de la part de @rageotediteur , un grand merci 💜. Ceux qui me suivent depuis un moment le savent, la précédente trilogie de l’autrice a été pour moi un énorme coup de cœur. Autant vous dire que forcément j’attendais avec impatience la traduction de cette nouvelle saga ! Rageot nous offre en plus ici, une magnifique édition. ~~~ En toute honnêteté, il m’a fallu la moitié du roman avant de rentrer dedans. Au début j’étais assez dubitatif, j’avais l’impression que l’on me répétait encore et encore les mêmes choses, l’histoire du Roi, du Prince et de Tessa, la maladie qui touche le royaume, les différences entre les riches et les pauvres. Je ne voyais pas forcément vers où se dirigeait le roman, si tout allait tourner ou non autour du conflit entre le peuple et son roi. Puis l’action est arrivée, l’attachement envers les personnages avec, les hypothèses concernant les traîtres aussi et sans m’en rendre compte, j’ai commencé à dévorer le roman. À la fin du roman j’ai lu les remerciements et l’autrice nous y raconte qu’elle est fan de Robin des bois et en y repensant je me demande comment je n’y ai pas pensé. Nos deux héros volent le traitement des riches pour le redistribuer aux pauvres et ainsi sauver de nombreuses vies. L’autrice ayant commencé l’écriture en 2019, notre pandémie en 2020 a aussi affecté son univers et là aussi bien que je n’ai pas fait le parallèle durant ma lecture, c’est assez logique. J’ai aimé le fait d’aimer autant les « gentils » que les « méchants » et voir que tout n’est pas tout rose des deux côtés. En voulant réclamer ce qui leur ai dû, les pauvres n’hésitent parfois pas à franchir la limite et cela montre à quel point les deux côtés sont désespérés et surtout désemparés fasse à la maladie. Bien évidemment un business se fait sur les pétales de fleurs servant à créer l’élixir permettant de guérir pour aller encore plus enrichir certaines personnes au détriment des moins fortunés.
