Doctor Sleep 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⭐️ I’d put off reading this because of how much I loved the Shining - I didn’t think it would live up to it. I was pleasantly surprised by it, I found it almost as gripping as the first book and loved the dual perspectives with the True Knot. Now that's not to say that it isn't a good book as it is and I'll read it again, but since it's a sequel to The Shining there was very little to connect the books. The plot itself was good and intriguing, but personally, I think it would have been better as a standalone. ⚠️I did think that at the end, when Dan's father came back to help him was good, I got the impression that he was at peace despite the events of The Shining. Doctor Sleep (2013) Stephen King. What else could I possibly post after The Shining. Personally, I loved it. I know not everyone felt this way, but what writer, other than SK, could have pulled off a sequel to one of the scariest stories ever written. As ever, it’s in a different league to the film. Is it perfect? no, but it’s deeply weird and creepy with some incredibly well crafted (and disturbing) scenes. 📜 review 📜 Doctor Sleep by Stephen King Doctor Sleep is one of my favourite King's, and the perfect sequel to the Shining. I read this a couple of years ago, around the time the film was coming out and its definitely one ill revisit. The tone and overall feel of Doctor Sleep is very different from that of the Shining, but in I way that I think reflects how King has grown as a writer. A lot of classic King can be dense and slow to get through, and this was definitely not the case with Doctor Sleep. I could not put this one down, I when I did I found myself thinking about it throughout the day, and wanting to get back to it. I loved the characters, seeing Dan as an adult, how the overlook has affected his life and his battle with alcoholism. I loved Abra, and her shine, and seeing an expansion of the shining world. The new villains were brilliant, very dark but very fun, rich characters. Fast paced and intense, it made me excited to be back in the King universe, and encouraged me to reread the Shining (which I recently did). Would definitely recommend to King fans and everyone tbh, even if you weren't a huge fan of the Shining. BOOK REVIEW 📚 "Doctor Sleep" by Stephen King!!! First off, just LOOK at that cover!!! This is by far one of my favorite King book covers and that's actually what drew my attention to it in the first place! Out of all the King books I've read this one is definitely one of my favorites. It took everything I loved from "The Shinning" and improved upon it. I loved learning more about the Shinning itself and exploring the trauma Danny goes through after his experience at the Overlook Hotel. One of the biggest reasons I love this book so much is because of its main antagonist. Rose the Hat is such an interesting villain and I understood her reasoning behind doing all the terrible things she did. I'm always looking for a great antagonist in my reads and this book delivered. Filled with a bunch of interesting additions to "The Shinning" universe, this book is a definite must read if you're a Stephen King fan. The movie, directed by Mike Flanagan, is also a great adaptation despite taking some liberties with it ending. But don't all King adaptations 😂 Be sure to check this one out if you haven’t. Doctor Sleep is an incredible sequel. I loved The Shinning and Little Doc’s time at the over look hotel was terrifying. I was constantly having to remind myself that I wasn’t actually there. The imagery was so well done. Doctor Sleep doesn’t try to mimic the feel of the first book but instead shows that Danny Torrence has had to learn and grow a lot since his time in Colorado. I love all the new and supporting characters in this book. Abra has so much spunk, and the comparison to vampirism that Abra makes is fantastic. Ammetto che non amo i sequel, ne nei film ne nei libri. Un conto sono le serie, un conto sono i sequel magari realizzati molti anni dopo l’originale e senza che nessuno ne sentisse il bisogno.. Inoltre se l’originale è un libro pazzesco come “Shining” beh capirete la mia titubanza! Ma d’altra parte dovevo dare una possibilità all’opera di King, quell’uomo se lo merita 😂 e per fortuna che l’ho fatto!!!! Ho amato TUTTO di questo libro! Iin primis ho apprezzato il cambio di registro con il quale è stato scritto, adatto a differenziarsi dal predecessore e dal ritmo più fluido e più in linea con i personaggi e la storia. E poi.. beh lo ammetto: mi sono perdutamente e irrimediabilmente innamorata di Danny Torrance 🖤 In realtà ho apprezzato tutti i personaggi, trovandoli splendidamente costruiti e sfaccettati, anche i più cattivi hanno trovato un posto nel mio cuore. Ma Danny ha decisamente fatto breccia con la sua immensa umanità, i suoi lati oscuri, la sua debolezza che diventa la sua forza più grande, il suo cadere per imparare a rialzarsi. 💤 Doctor Sleep 💤 “They call it steam.” I genuinely don’t like Rose the Hat. Not in a way that you don’t like a character and want to move on to the next part, but Stephen King created such a vile being that I can say with certainty, I do not like her. Overall Doctor Sleep kept me turning the pages and staying up late. We revisit Danny as an adult with problems of his own. He moves to a town to start fresh and like fate the pieces come together between his life and Abra. Abra is a child who has the shine too and Dan takes her under his wing, full circle. But there are veil beings out there who survive off people like Dan and Abra and they must work together to stop them.

I’ve read the shining twice now and loved it both times, I re read it so I could read doctor sleep because my last shining read was a while ago. Doctor sleep did not disappoint at all! ‘ I loved all the characters, they all mixed so well together. I loved Dan in the book! I especially loved the beginning part and getting into his struggles and delving into his time in AA etc 😍 • As for rose. I actually held of googling the cast for the film, until I’d finished the book because I like to imagine everything myself because I also feel like I connect with the book more that way. But when I googled the cast afterwards I was surprised how different I pictured rose! I’m a bit of a gimp and I also loved her character. 😂 • I personally think it’s such a great sequel! The desolation of addiction, and the fight for honest goodness in a dark, dark world. Through sobriety, through friendship, through calling on ourselves to be more than we are, even when we aren’t. Was Dan Torrance better than Jack? So many lose the battle, so many of us lose ourselves to our demons. I think Doctor Sleep argues that there’s always a way back. It does what all of King’s best work does for me: it illuminates and acknowledges just how abundantly bleak and horrifying the world around us can be, and then he argues for the light. My review and thoughts : .. First of all,I have a doubt!! Does the twin girls in the shining movie exist in the book?? Cause I'm pretty sure I haven't read anything about them in the book or did I somehow skipped that part????🤔 .. Coming back to the review, It was a fab read and i couldn't ask for a better sequel!!👏 .. It started real slow that it took me more than a week to get past the first half but darn the second half was a pageturner! I just couldn't put it down!!😍 . If you've read any king's work you'd know how he concentrates more on the development of all the characters before getting into the actual storyline and this book is no different at all!! The first half was just about the characters and their long-detailed intros while the second half explains how all these characters are connected with one another and lead a path to that final ending🥳🥳 .. There are a handful of characters to remember but yeah every character is important and had a great impact on the story so eventhough it was confusing in the start you'll get used to it as the story prolonged🤗 .. The story was very creative i mean true knot and their steam!! The connection between them and the people with the shining and how Dan got tangled with them all!! Everything was so well crafted👻☠ .. Little twists here and there made the story even more interesting!! It's good to read about Danny again and I'm glad the way it ended😄 .. There aren't any scary parts like the shining so it's just a sequel with a terrific plot😈 .. 🌟My rating : 4.5/5 .. I’ve been wanting to read Doctor Sleep for some time and finally got around to it over Thanksgiving. Since The Shining prevented me from sleeping for approximately two days, I wanted to wait until I was wrapped in the warm embrace of family and pie before starting its long belated sequel. . In spite of taking place in the same universe and sticking with protagonist Danny Torrance, they’re completely different books. The Shining reads like a swinging pocket watch, lulling the reader deeper and deeper into the madness of the Overlook hotel until it’s almost too late. Doctor Sleep on the other hand, reads more like a bing bang boom thriller where the bad guys just happen to be psychic vampires. Even as a self-described wimp, I wasn’t spooked by Doctor Sleep, but I was plenty entertained! My only complaint was some of needless trauma shoving that didn’t really seem necessary for the advancement of the plot or characters. Doctor Sleep by Stephen King • Rating: 3/5 • Review: Much like The Shining, I found the pacing of Doctor Sleep to be quite slow. For over half the book I could tell that King was setting things up for a grande finale, but nothing substantial happened while he did that. To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot more from Doctor Sleep so my expectations were low going in. However, I was quite impressed with the end which was very clearly planned, with every little detail thought out. I’m glad the ending was fantastic, otherwise this book would’ve been a bust.
