I read a few chapters of this book once when I was a kid and it’s one I’ve always wanted to go back and read properly. This isn’t the same one, but I’m happy to finally be getting around to it. 🐉 4/5⭐️ - Chris Snow has a condition where sunlight or any sort of artificial light can permanently damage his skin and eyes, forcing him to because a chronic night owl. The story really begins when Chris’s father dies of cancer and he watches as his body is swapped with a dead hitchhiker by the undertaker for cremation. With the help of his girlfriend, his best friend, and his dog, he’s going to get to the bottom of the mystery. What an excellent book, I couldn’t put it down, younger me missed out on a great read! This Dean Koontz box set is more of a classic ebay find. The books are stained and showing signs of being read, the box is split along one edge, and there's a photo of Norman Wisdom as a bookmark... But that's ok, it means there's a history here, and we're now a part of that. Koontz was one of my main authors when I first got into horror and thrillers. Watchers has always been a favourite, while Strange Highways was a surprisingly good venture into short stories. Just another manic Monday! I'm reposting some of my favorite thrifted finds today. Phantoms will always be my favorite Dean Koontz book. This book club edition was a steal for a few dollars and the extended version of The Stand with this iconic cover is a favorite too. I found this book club Tommyknockers for a dollar at Goodwill (I think) but have since found a true first edition and traded this one in at Mckay's. The criticism for The Tommyknockers is valid but it still holds a special place in my heart. I remember checking it out at the library when it first released in 1987. I felt so adult reading it. What are your Stephen King, Desn Koontz feelings? I know some horror fans have extreme disdain for both.

I'm SO excited about all the reading I've gotten done this year. My goal started as 1 book a month for 6 months. I've increased it to 9 months (but my actual goal is to read at least 1 book a month for the whole year) So far, I've read 5 books! I got thru 2 books in the month of April 😍 and I'm very proud of myself for finishing 2 books in a month! It's been too long since I prioritized reading in my life, and it's felt amazing! I have the books in the photos and descriptions below, from most recent to least recent! So far this year, I read: April: "Elsewhere" by Dean Koontz. I gave this one a 4.5. Anyone who knows my reading habits knows I'm a big fan of Koontz. This was more science fiction than I'm used to, but I LOVED this book! I bought this book 3 years ago, started it, got halfway thru and never went back, because I was not doing much reading then...I'm SO glad I got back to this one. "The Storm We Made" by Vanessa Chan. I gave this novel 4 stars! This was a super fast and great read, in my opinion! It was unlike what I usually read. I usually stick to Thrillers/Horror/Mystery and this was historical fiction. It gave me SO MANY feelings. March: "Only if You're Lucky" by Stacy Willingham. This novel was a 3.5 for me. It was my slowest read by far, but it definitely had interesting characters! February: "Please See Us" by Caitlin Mullen. I gave this one 3.5-4 stars. This debut novel was VERY fun to read! And the setting was amazing! January: Permission to Feel" by Marc Brackett, Ph.D. I gave this book 4.5-5 stars. Démons intimes de Dean Koontz Je ne le savais pas en commençant ce roman mais il s'agit en fait d'un recueil de nouvelles ! Des histoires très variées ici puisque qu'il y a aussi bien du thriller que de la science fiction ou des histoires plus sombres. J'ai adoré la première "Chase" qui parle d'un tueur en série qui harcèle notre personnage principal ainsi que la dernière "le crépuscule de l'aube" qui est une critique sur la religion et qui était ultra triste. Enjoying a cozy Sunday today. I love taking photos of sunflowers. They always make me smile (I know very cliche lol). 🌼🍂🌿🐼 Q: Do you enjoy horror? 🔪🩸 A: I used to heavily dislike horror cause I'm easily a scaredy-cat (lol) but surprisingly it's now one of my go-to genres. I especially enjoy psychological horror and mainly its compelling and narrative and character-driven story that'll leave your hairs standing at the back of your neck 😂. There are also horror video games I eagerly want to venture into that somehow struck up my attention which include The Silent Hill series, The Evil Within, The Last of Us, Until Dawn, and Dead By Daylight! I've watched a handful walkthroughs of these video games and I'm amazed at their respective storylines. I can't wait to try out these games so bad but, unfortunately right now, my room isn't appropriate and fitting for gaming, so maybe when I'm lucky enough to move out and relocate to a suitable apartment in future, I'll, without a doubt, at least, find some space that'll be spacious enough for me to set up gaming equipment and stuff. 🎮 Furthermore, I'm about to finish chapter 5 of Innocence by Dean Koontz and I'm quite enjoying it! It's very dark and grim, and you definitely need to be a little thick-skinned to handle that sort of thing in my opinion 😅. This has been my first read since February and honestly? I think I was getting Horror withdrawal after reading so much last year, and this was the perfect book to make me feel back on track! Za jego wyjątkowością stoi niezwykle rzadka choroba genetyczna, która nie pozwala mu cieszyć się życiem w blasku słońca. Nie myślcie jednak, że pan Snow jest wyalienowanym potworem o bladej skórze i przekrwionych oczach. Wbrew wszystkiemu wygląda zupełnie normalne, a jego życie jest bogate w doświadczenia. Pod osłoną nocy Chris spotyka się z przyjaciółmi, surfuje i tworzy udany związek z prezenterką radiową Saschą. W jego życiu jest jeszcze Olsen, niemożliwie wręcz inteligentny pies w typie labradora. Jeda noc zmienia absolutnie wszystko. Ojciec Chrisa umiera w szpitalu, a niedługo potem mężczyzna jest świadkiem dziwnej sceny w kostnicy. Zamiast zwłok ojca właściciel domu pogrzebowego zabiera ciało bezdomnego, któremu ktoś wyłupił oczy. Im dalej w noc tym robi się dziwniej. Po ulicach spokojnego do tej pory miasteczka grasują dziwnie wyglądające małpy, a ludzie przejawiają coraz bardziej mordercze instynkty. Osobiste śledztwo prowadzi Chrisa na trop badań genetycznych w które zaangażowani byli jego rodzice. Czy doprowadzi on do rozwiązania tajemnicy dziwnego zachowania ludzi i zwierząt? "Więzień ciemności" znany też pod tytułem "Zabójca strachu" to taki raczej lekki horror. Sam pomysł na fabułę jest naprawdę ciekawy, jednak cała reszta nie bardzo się udała. Autor wszystkie wydarzenia zawarł w ciągu jednej nocy przez co ma się wrażenie że niewiele się dzieje. Męczą też zbyt częste retrospekcje i do nikąd nie prowadzące rozmowy. W dodatku tłumacz tego wydania zawarł zbyt wiele poetyckich zdań które nijak się mają do horrorowej atmosfery. Być może gdybym czytała późniejsze edycję tej historii podobała by mi się ona bardziej. I starten synes jeg bogen var god - der var dog en plotlinie i historien jeg ikke rigtig fangede før senere. Pludselig sker der noget i handlingen, som bare var for mærkeligt. DNF So I did not finish this book. I am extremely disappointed. First off, this is considered a sci-fi, which is not Dean koontz' normal genre. The reason I did not finish this is because it is eerily similar to the tv series "Sliders" from the 90s. It felt stolen. 36/52 By the Light of the Moon by Dean Koontz Where to begin about this book. So essentially the whole story is three people, a guy and his autistic brother, and a female who Koontz has some weird infatuation with her “large butt” in the writing, receive an injection from a scientist which gives them some powers. The first guy can see a person’s history by touching anything the other person has touched, the autistic guy can basically time travel, and the lady has visions. Then they go on the run and eventually figure out the scientist guy and save a church from a potential mass murder. Now this book I can see where Koontz was going with the plot but it seemed almost terribly put together. I dived it with very little knowledge of the book. I had no idea what was to come. I also had no idea that this would be come one of my favorite boooks!! This is the first of Koontz' books I have read, and it did not disappoint at all! His writing in this book is phenomenal. It was so vividly written, I could see the scenes playing out in my brain as clear as if I was watching a movie. I felt like I was really there with the characters. I could truly feel their panic and terror. ☆☆☆☆☆ Phantoms by Dean Koontz was absolutely a 5/5 stars for me. "Misterium" to połączenie powieści grozy z fantastycznymi elementami spod pióra amerykańskiego pisarza. Jest to moje pierwsze spotkanie z twórczością autora, które okazało się udane. Dużym plusem jest poprowadzenie historii z kilku perspektyw co pozwoliło na lepsze poznanie bohaterów oraz motywów, które nimi kierowały. Fabułę śledzimy nie tylko oczami jedenastoletniego Woody'ego, czyli inteligentnego chłopca w spektrum autyzmu, który posiada hakerskie zdolności, ale również posiadającego niezwykły dar Kippa, któremu bliżej do człowieka niż psa. Nie jest to jednak koniec perspektyw, ponieważ w książce mamy także rozdziały, w których poznajemy bezwzględnego Lee Shacketa, który nie cofnie się przed niczym, aby osiągnąć swój cel. Dodając do tego oryginalną i angażującą fabułę, w której nie brakuje fantastycznych wątków otrzymujemy naprawdę interesującą całość.
