Many commercial weight loss programs operate on the assumption that you don’t know what you should be eating. So they’ll give you a diet or meal plan to follow and that will make you lose weight. That works – in the short term. But over 80% of people will regain that weight. Alternatively, maybe you’ve tried using a food tracker, something like MyFitnessPal, or even a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) to gather calorie or blood sugar data. Maybe you’ve tried the new AI tools like Lumen, or FoodRx. I don’t deny that there is some value to gaining awareness and knowing your data. If only we made food decisions based on data alone... The core issue that isn’t solved with these approaches is human behaviour, especially feeding behaviour, isn’t based on logic, or data, or even rational decision making. Rather, eating is based in our emotions, pleasure and an impulse-driven limbic system. Many of our food decisions are based on what will taste good and make me feel better when I’m stressed, not what is going to give me a balanced intake of nutrients. When it comes to biohacking though, it isn’t a specific “diet” per say, it is figuring out what works for your body specifically. 💪 Some of the biggest catalous of inflammation in your body can be linked to wheat, dairy, and sugar so these are good areas to reflect on HOW you feel after you are consuming these things. ❤️I’m saying this out of love. ❤️ Just because you don’t log it in your tracker, doesn’t mean it doesn’t log on your ass! 🍑 This past weekend I had my head in the clouds when I was thinking about how many calories were in a piece of delicious cake with buttercream icing until I really did some research. 🛑 Before you come at me, I think every birthday should be celebrated with cake! 🛑 HOWEVER, knowing that the leftovers would be in my kitchen for a week, I knew I wanted to cover all my bases. So I asked my sister in law what recipe she used and the results were LAUGHABLE. Where I would have logged 400ish calories, it was closer to the 1K mark. Again, birthday cake should definitely be enjoyed, especially when it’s your daughter’s first birthday BUT when those 1K calorie pieces are going to be hanging around for the rest of the week, something has to be accounted for. Awareness is HUGE when on a weight loss journey. There’s no reason to stick your head in the sand when it comes to what you’re eating. No matter whether you log it or not, it matters! At the end of the day, tracking your food intake is more than just numbers on a page—it’s about gaining awareness and taking control of your health journey.
