For this month’s Latinos Urbanos Book and Wine pairing we went with a delicious, raw, yet complex Bordeaux 🍷 The 2021 Bordeaux from Château Gombaude Guillot- Le Bordeaux Du Paysan Just like in Until August by @gabriel_garcia_marquez 🙏🏽where the main character Ana Magdalena is not your typical wife who grieves the loss of her mother… this is not your usual Bordeaux. The grape variety is mostly Merlot and like Ana Magdalena who travels and has a secret life… this Bordeaux can fool you in its Burgundy bottled shape. Is it delicious? Absolutely! 🍷🍷🍷🍷/5 Books? Wine? Books about wine? Books full of wine? Books you can read while drinking wine? SIGN ME UP! If you like wine, and romance, and reading romance with a glass of wine, then you need to pick this book right now! I admit the first two chapters before our MCs met, I was not THAT interested in the story. But then they meet and that meet cute was adorable and perfect and absolutely sparkling. Their chemistry was off the vine, and sparks were flying constantly when they were on page together. I loved the entire “Galentine group” of Morgan’s friends, and I absolutely wish I was a part of them, and I really hope we’re not done with them yet. And the entire “issue” with Dante’s family was the perfect amount of intrigue, disappointment, and then familial joy that I have ever read. And all of these aspects really made the story more in depth, connected, and well rounded. I am always on my feet waiting for Mia’s next book because everything I read from her just gets better and better. Time for another #wineandbookpairing 📕🍷✨🎉 The Sentence by Louise Erdrich pairs so nicely with Trefethen Chardonnay! Much like a complex wine (which this is), there are several directions one could go with to pair with this book, but for me - I decided to focus on the ghost stories. Maybe it’s the Victorian House Museum Director in me… Anyways, In Erdrich’s book there is a ghost haunting the main character in the bookstore. Trefethen is not only a ghost winery (old and restored winery in Napa from the 1800’s) but rumor has it that it too is haunted! During prohibition the winery was used for bootlegging and someone got greedy and then got murdered and then got ghosted. As one does. #boo 👻. If only her grumpy new neighbor would stop stomping around at all hours of the night. Former firefighter Hill Dawson can’t sleep. After a bad accident in a rescue gone wrong, he’s now stuck in limbo. Author, Roni Loren is so underrated! The characters were relatable and real and I appreciate how the topics of anxiety and PTSD were explored and discussed. If you’re looking for me, chances are I’m right here 🤍 Confession time… how have I not reviewed this book yet?!?!! I LOVED this emotional, joyful read by @mrstevenrowley and @readwithjenna pick. From the author of The Guncle (one of my favorite go-to book recs!) and for fans of The Big Chill, this one is equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking. It’s a celebration of life, death and everything in between all written in Rowley’s signature blend of wit and heart. As someone living with cancer and forced to consider death more than I’d like to, this book resonated with me in so many ways! It’s easy to see that Rowley is unfortunately also familiar with the disease and the characters feelings and emotions are so true. Rowley’s characters are always so beautifully written and easy to feel like I know them only a few pages in. I laughed, I cried, and overall felt like this read was a giant hug. I hope to see The Celebrants on many best of lists this month - it will certainly be on mine! Let’s be honest, I’d read Steven Rowley’s grocery list if he published it!

I’m overdue for another #wineandbookpairing (library pun intended). When your books have elements of time travel, one must open a bottle that will transport them to their own past! The year- 1999. This white burgundy aged beautifully, however lesson learned- decanting would have been beneficial. As we were all approaching the new century, I was rocking the sousaphone in my middle school marching band and embracing so much body glitter that any environmentalist would be concerned. I was all band and glam. Where were you in 1999? This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub brilliantly questions how given the chance we can best make adjustments and cherish time with those we love while the main character travels back to the 1990’s from her 40th birthday to her 16th. Tom Lake by Ann Patchett travels back while the main character in this book reflects on her own past while telling stories to her daughters of her coming to age and falling in love. Of course these are the simplest synopses of complex themes, but I chose this 1999 meursault because of its transformative nature. Wine Pairing Wednesday! I have been devoting Mystery/thrillers lately. I LOVED this one by @lisajewelluk ! This had so many twists and turns. One minute I lived the characters, the next I was ready to give up on them…or was I…It’s moody, slippery, shattering….and the ending-everything I look for in a psychological read. There were times where the characters gave an almost claustrophobic or humid vibe-so I just couldn’t in good conscience pair this beauty with a red. ❄️🎄 It's Wine Wednesday! Today we continue with ACOTAR wine pairings to find one for the series' novella: "A Court of Frost and Starlight". The theme for the series so far has been bold, beautiful reds to match the powerful plot and characters of the books, but for this week we pivot to ACOFAS, which reads like a winter-break novella and has been described by others as a Hallmark holiday in between all of the doom and gloom faced by our beloved characters. To match this lightness, I chose a French Rosé. It is light, refreshing, tart on the palette and bursting with fruit-forward flavors. If it were sparkling, I think it would pass tremendously well for faerie wine as well, and it perfectly matches the lighter tone and festive mood of this short novel. The Weather Girl…my thoughts. I’ve wanted to read this one for so long and then my Mum gave me this bottle of wine to match as a challenge…so I needed no further excuse! In short- I really enjoyed it! I thought it was going to be a nice holiday love story, which it is but it’s also a lot more. I loved the story of Ari and how she lives with depression. The development of how she shares the impact on her daily life was really well written and eye-opening. I thought the comparison to her Mum’s struggles added so much to show how different people are affected so differently and we never really know what people are going through. The double storyline with Ari and Russell, Torrance and Seth was just brilliant and I loved the comedy of the two playing each other. It’s also really lovely to read about females who have secured their dream jobs and are smashing it. I thought the elements of Judaism were thoughtful and perfectly placed. It’s so good to read about religion and culture in contemporary fiction. Bonus mention for Alex and Javier, who are parenting goals and Elodie who is brilliantly refreshing- I loved her. Actually, the more I write the more I realise I loved it. There’s so much in it to love and yet it doesn’t feel like anything is in there for the sake of it. Aside from matching the name, this wine matches perfectly. It’s a complex Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. The tastes are lemon and pear but with an earth depth that grounds it. Perfect for Ari and Russel to make their plans over. It’s been a rainy day in Dorset today, not ideal to be on holiday but gave me some raindrops for this background so we’ll go with it- Weather Girl and Weather Man, you’ve served me well but please provide some sun tomorrow! ⚡️ LIVELY ⚡️ Deciding what wine to pair with the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was truly a tough one! There are so many layers to this book, so I knew it had to be a refreshing, yet lively blend. This Chenin Blanc and Viognier is perfect! ✨ 📚 BOOK: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid read… and since then, I’ve read all of her other “famous women” books. 😍 (I’ve loved the character development and subtle linking of storylines between the four of them - and of course, girl power! 💪🏼) Seven Husbands was full of surprises, laughs, and believe it or not, also a few tears. ❤️ It’s so hard not to share all that I love about it without giving away too much… so I’ll summarize with this - it’s a must read. 💯 🥂 WINE: Full disclosure, Viognier is my favorite white grape. A friend recently recommended it blended with Chenin Blanc and I haven’t looked back! 👀 This Terra d’Oro 2021 blend (85% Chenin Blanc and 15% Viognier) is well balanced with high acidity and offers melon and citrus, like grapefruit, nectarine, and tangerine on the nose. 🍊 On the palate, I love the flavors of peach 🍑 and mango. 🥭 You might also notice some hints of lemon with a crisp, mineral finish. 🍋 It’s no surprise why it’s highly rated and reviewed! 💭 THOUGHTS: Such a good book and such a good wine! 🤩 Seven Husbands is a fast, easy read and this Chenin Blanc and Viognier is also a smooth and easy (to drink) wine. 😉 The only question that remains is what TJR book should I pair next?! ✨ SATISFYING ✨ I feel like I’ve read a ton of books lately with titles starting with “The Last” and I have three more on my TBR shelf! 📖 The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave is a thrilling mystery, but it’s not as dark as others, so I’ve paired this with a Pinot Noir. 🍷 Both are lighter (maybe even entry-level) options for their respective families - red wine and thrillers. 👯♀️ 📚 BOOK: I’ve been wanting to read this book for awhile, but when I realized its limited series was already streaming on Apple TV+, I had to get to it! 📺 It drew me in FAST and was definitely a page turner so I blew through it in two days. 💨 The ending has received mixed reviews, but I thought it was super satisfying. ✨ 🍷 WINE: Just as satisfying as the book is the Bennett Valley Cellars (BVC) 2021 Bin 6410 Pinot Noir. 💯 On the nose you’ll find hazelnut and red fruits like cherry and raspberry. 🍒 On the palate, you’ll notice more fruit - like blackberry - with the addition of some spice and wood. 🪵 Medium bodied, it finishes clean and crisp… but had me wanting the next sip - I truly couldn’t put it down! 😍 Plus - BVC is located in Sonoma and a portion of the book takes place in Sausalito… so, of course, I had to choose a Pinot Noir from California.📍 💭 THOUGHTS: Overall, I loved the book and loved the wine!
