Who is one author that surprised you? Mine is Naomi Novik when I found out that Temeraire (or His Majestys Dragon, I have seen both titles) is her debut novel. I had read it in my early teens translated and I re-read it recently in english. It definately held up to my memories. Probably one of my favourite depictions of dragons in fantasy novels (up there with Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle). The spin she puts in this alternate reality where dragons exists and how that changes the world's nation powers and dynamics, while still in my opinion staying true to real culture classes and scenarios is breathtaking. Today, we see the next release near future dystopian thriller publication from the insanely talented @johnmarrs.author AD:PR Set in the same world as The One, The Passengers and The Marriage Act, you go on a journey with several couples/people who are competing to win their perfect family. I'll start by saying that within the first 11 pages or so, I was already in tears, John doesn't ease you into this story, but you are immediately immersed. To be fair, as you start to meet the contestants, it wasn't long until you get hit again emotionally, and then one by one, they get eliminated and lose their chance of a family. The variety in characters was brilliant, and as you go on, you learn a lot about them as people (you will have met some from the previous books, but it's not a necessity if you haven't read them) and learn their back story. Do some secrets come out? Of course! Is there endless drama? Absolutely. It's packed with those dark twisty sections we all know John for. These people are honestly full of drama. They will keep you entertained. I love how you get the viewers' experience throughout. It makes it all so much more real and gives you that reality feel. The ending was explosive, gut-wrenching, and genius, really. I had no idea where this was going to go, and it was perfect, even though I wanted to sob for the rest of the day. I'm starting to feel John is predicting the future with these near future books! @johnmarrs.author, you're a legend, a genius, and you have done it again, I am emotionally scarred from one of your books. I have a really bad habit of procrastinating on reading books by my favorite authors because I donโt want to wait a whole year (or more) for their next book! Anyway, Just For the Summer, by Abby Jimenez, is one of those books. Thanks @readforeverpub for the gifted ecopy! Imagine if all of your exes found their soulmate right after you break up with them. Justin and Emma both have this โcurseโ so they decide their best chance of breaking it is to date each other, then when they break up, theyโll each meet their soulmate. Well, just guess how that turns out for them. I think what I loved most about this book is that it touches on deeper topics in a way that lends to the story. Emma has a lot of baggage thanks to her mom, and it adds layers to her character. Justin has his own issues, such has getting custody of his siblings while his mom serves a prison sentence. I started with her newer work and am now working my way through her early writings. GET LUCKY is a story an ordinary family - two sisters and their dad, who are dealing with grief from the death of the mother. The narrative moves quickly, from meeting Dadโs new girlfriend, to a surrogate birth mother, along with husbands, boyfriends, exes, and baby twins, โฆ all in 272 pages. Romance is there, of course, but this is solid family drama. This authorโs books never fail to hook me at the start because sheโs a genius at narrating true family life. It makes me wonder if she has taken a peek inside my home, because her stories of relationships, heartbreak, and forgiveness, are so real. Throughout the book, the reader feels the struggle, because life is often tough. But that makes it interesting, too. I enjoyed every page, especially the writing. Book Review - The Rule Book by Sarah Adams โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Honestly Sarah Adams never misses! I loved this book, it was such a cute, fun read. I really liked both the main characters and their relationship. I loved how they both loved and accepted each other exactly as they were. It was refreshing to have a female main character who was so positive and bubbly and still a badass in her career. Lucky Hit and Between Periods by @hannahcowanauthor I really love Oakley and Ava, I could read about them foreverโค๏ธ I love that this story is sweet with its spicy moments, but still has the drama without being over the top. This was the first book I read by this author and instantly got me hooked and wanting to read everything! So happy I finally got my physical copies! Between Periods is the novella between books 1 and 2, the group go on holiday together, and I'm not going to spoil anything, but it perfectly sets up book 2. Her stories blend fantasy, mystery and romance and combined it creates an engaging narrative. The world building is smooth yet vivid, without it being overwhelming. The characters are humanized enough to where the fantasy isnโt โtoo fantasticalโ. This story had a great deal of secrets, mystery, elemental presence, enchanted isle, some unexpected twists, enemies-to-lovers trope, slow burn romance and it is told in multiple POVs. All that added to a very immersive and fun read. If you ever felt like dipping your toes into fantasy but are intimidated by extensive, often boring world building and donโt feel like committing to thousand pages, A RIVER ENCHANTED - and Rebecca Ross in general - is a great choice! I definitely recommend. #2 A FIRE ENDLESS โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ๐ซ โI will bring the two halves together, he thought, even though it seemed so impossible he could have laughed. A FIRE ENDLESS held my attention (almost) the entire time and I felt transferred to the isle of Cadence.
