QOTD: What are you watching right now? . Who is getting excited for the newest Bridgerton season coming out tomorrow?!?!?! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️I have the day off tomorrow so I know what I will be watching! . I’m so excited to share with you my tour stop for WRATH OF THE TALON by @sophiekimwrites . The stunning sequel to LAST OF THE TALONS was released last month and here are my Top 5 Reasons why you should read it: 1. It’s one of the best middle books in a series I’ve ever read. It builds off book 1 and will leave you yearning for book 3 2. Do you like being emotionally destroyed by books? Then read this one 3. Angry girls bent on revenge are the best 4. There’s romance with a pinch of spice 🌶️ 5. I loved learning more about Korean mythology in this book . This post is part of a tour for @tbrbeyondtours . 📚📖☕️ THIS WEEK FROM MY READING NOOK… Hi friends and Happy Monday! 😊 I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. What did you get up to? 💁🏼‍♀️ We had a lovely day yesterday visiting Garry’s mum and dad for Mother’s Day. We had delicious take-away Chinese food from the local Tin Can Bay Country Club and indulged in a gorgeous homemade baked apricot cheesecake for dessert (baked by Garry’s mum). It was a really special day spent with family. 🥰 Today I’ve popped in for a super quick post to showcase my #LastNowNext reads to kick off the new week. 😍📚☕️ Earlier today I finished my Buddy Read of The Miller Women by @kellihawkinswriter and all I can say is WOW!! What a cracker of a yarn — I loved it, even if it turned out to be slightly different than what I’d expected going in. Hopefully I can get my thoughts onto the page soon for a review but in the meantime I can say it was a very addictive read, and a surprising one — in all the best ways! 📖 I’ll be picking up Pheasant’s Nest later tonight and cannot wait to dive into Louise Milligan’s highly anticipated debut novel. @milliganreports 🎧 I’ve also just started The Divorcées by Rowan Beaird on audio and so far am really enjoying it. @rbeaird 📖 Next up will be the new novel from André Aciman (the author of Call Me By Your Name) called The Gentleman From Peru. @acimanandre It’s a slim novella so I’m hoping I might even get through all three of these by weeks end… let’s see how I go! 😉🤞🏼 Swipe 👉🏻 for blurbs of these stunners. These fab reads are OUT NOW. All books generously #Gifted to me apart from The Miller Women which was a gift to myself. 😏 ❓Pick your QOTD: What book are you kicking off the week reading? What are your last, now and next reads? Or, tell me something fun you watched, listened to or read this weekend? 💁🏼‍♀️ Have a fantastic evening friends (or Monday for my overseas friends), I’ll see you tomorrow for another exciting publication day, and boy, do I have some bumper new releases to showcase!! 🌿 With ongoing thanks 🙏🏼 to the wonderful tagged publishers for sending these diverse and exciting books my way. {ad/pr} 🎁

What’s the last book you finished? 📖 I devoured Emily Henry’s latest in just over two days this week, and oh man, it was great. I just adored FUNNY STORY and it may be one of my favorite EH books. The characters and their banter and humor really just hit all the right notes for me. Have you read this one yet? Do you have a favorite EH book? I feel like I need to do some rereads of them to make a more definitive ranking, but aside from FUNNY STORY, PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION stands out in my memory as a top pick. (I know I’m in the minority there, but I do so love a friends to lovers trope.) #whatiread #funnystory #emilyhenry #emilyhenrybooks #funnystoryemilyhenry #booksiread #bookinhand #romancebook #romancereadersofinstagram

“I do believe something very magical can happen when you read good books.” - J.K Rowling ☺️📖🙌🏻 This is so true, because every time you open up a book, it is magical, and takes you to a different place or time period. Keeping you engrossed in the story and allowing you to escape from reality for a little while. Do you love reading good books too? #theloveofreading #goodbooks #bookinhand #cozyspace #booklover #author

Happiness is finally finding a book your child absconded with a few months ago because it was so pretty and pink. I'm definitely raising little book dragons. 📚🐉📚 I've been so excited to read A Spirited Engagement, but now that I've found it I'm debating if I want to start back at the first book in the series. Hmmm.....🤔 If it's been a while, do you reread earlier books in a series before reading the newest addition? #bookwormlife #burlapandlacebookworm #alwaysreading #bookwormkids pretty books #hesitantmediumsseries #aspiritedengagement #romantasy #victorianfantasy #gaslampfantasy #victorianghoststories #maytbr #readingchallenge #bookoftheday #bookinhand #alwaysreading #allthebooks #bookpile #pileofbooks #bookstagram #booksta

I stole some reading time this morning while the hubz took the kids outside to play.....but considering that the #draculadaily reading today was only 2 1/2 pages long I needed a second book on hand. 📚 Speaking of which, have you heard of Dracula Daily?! I’ve waited almost 3 years to join in on this! Last year, after missing the starting date *again* 🙄 , I learned my lesson and finally marked my calendar ahead so I could start on Day 1 this year! 🤗 Stoker’s Dracula is written as journal entries, letters, newspaper clippings, etc., but is not presented entirely chronologically. Dracula Daily has slightly reorganized the original texts and presents them in ‘real time’ to be read on the days the events in the story take place, running from May 3 through November 6. Ah! I just love this idea so much! Quick bookworm confession here 😬 I’ve never actually read the original Dracula all the way through. 😱I’ve lost momentum about 2/3 of the way through every time. I’m hoping this will keep me motivated and on pace this year since the daily readings are often just a few pages at a time! And! While I did a get a hard copy of the rearranged text, I also signed up for the free emailed version so I never forget what days I’m supposed to read lol (especially when there are sometimes multiple days off in a row). If this is the first time you’ve heard of this and this sounds fun, it’s not too late to join me! You can sign up for the free full readings via email at draculadaily.com - and today is just the first installation so you won’t even have to play catch up! They’ll just send you each day’s readings as they happen in the story! And now, as Matt Kirkland says in his intro to Dracula Daily, “check your calendar, fill your pockets with garlic and paprika, and let’s begin.” #bookoftheday #burlapandlacebookworm #dracula #alwaysreading #bookinhand #morningreading #booksandcoffee #coffeeandbooks #bookwormlife #bookwormmama #bookwormconfessions #classiclit #gothiclit #vampirebooks #bookstagram #booksta #bookpile #pileofbooks #draculadaily2024 #maytbr #readeveryday #buddyread #currentlyreading #currentread

I have four-year-olds! 🎂 My twins are four today, and I’m all up in my mama feels over it. My babies are growing up! 🥹 We celebrated with friends this past weekend with a Gabby’s Dollhouse party, and after school today, we’re taking them to Build-A-Bear and then out for ice cream, and then they get to choose dinner. I have a strong suspicion it will be Happy Meals. 🙄😂 Do you have any birthday traditions? #birthdaybooks #bookinhand #bookshelfie #kidsbookshelfie #bookledges #kidsbookstagram #kidlitbooks #booksforkids #picturebooks #boardbooks #raisingreaders #momsofbookstagram

It's been raining here since Friday, but we got a tiny bit of sunshine today! Thank you @randomhouse for the gifted copy 📚 The Gathering by CJ Tudor (out now!) - #jessicamapreviews2024 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! I've been reading a lot of books about vampires this month, and I'm not even the slightest bit mad about it. I've gotten a little bit of everything which keeps the topic fresh, and this one is by far the most intense and creepy. Has the horror vibes but with a thriller's pacing, so I think that's the perfect combination. Alaska and vampires - initially made me think I was going to be getting something along the lines of 30 Days of Night, but this is so much more! We meet Detective Barbara Atkins, who is an experienced specialist in vampyr killings. After a brutal murder of a teenage boy with the telltale signs of a vampyr killing, she's sent to the small town of Deadhart, Alaska. The town coexists with a colony of vamprys, and it's works under the agreement that they do not attack or eat humans. However, tensions are at an all-time high after this murder. As Barabara begins her investigation, it's clear how some of the townspeople feel about the vampyrs, and they're just chomping at the bit to begin culling them. This is much more than just a scary book about vampires, and I loved the other messages hidden within. I think this was the best way to round out April. Can't complain about a 5 star read! I'm really hoping there's more from this town and universe because there's so much more that could be done! #thegathering #cjtudor #randomhouse #vampyrs #vampires #jessicamapreviews #horror #thriller #fivestarreview #bookinhand #rainyday #newbooktuesday #outnow #bookstagrampost #ilikebooks #bookreviews

Looks like my book review post will just have to wait until tomorrow because LOOK WHAT JUST GOT DELIVERED 🎉🎉🎉 Thank you @pantheonbooks for the gifted copy! A Cosmology of Monsters remains one of my favorite books (definitely top 10), and I scared the dogs gasping when I opened up this #bookmail 📚 The Dissonance by @shaunhamill (July 23rd, 2024) "You can never go home again," the saying goes—but Hal, Athena, and Erin have to. In high school, the three were students of the eccentric Professor Marsh, trained in a secret system of magic known as the Dissonance, which is built around harnessing negative emotions: alienation, anger, pain. Then, twenty years ago, something happened that shattered their coven, scattering them across the country, stuck in mundane lives, alone. But now, terrifying signs and portents (not to mention a pointed Facebook invite) have summoned them back to Clegg, Texas. There, their paths will collide with that of Owen, a closeted teenager from Alabama whose aborted cemetery seance with his crush summoned something far worse: a murderous entity whose desperate, driving purpose includes kidnapping Owen to serve as its Renfield. As Owen tries to outwit his new master, and Hal, Athena, and Erin reckon with how the choices they made as teens might connect to the apocalyptic event unfurling over the Lone Star State, shocking alliances form, old and new romances brew, and three unsuccessful adults and one frightened teen are all that stand between reality and oblivion. #shaunhamill #thedissonance #pantheonbooks #tbrlist #tbr #bookinhand #booksoutside #booksbooksbooks #igbooks #favoriteauthor #horror #fantasy #monsters #magic #anticipatedreads #horrorbooks #readmorehorror #bookrecommendations #readersofinstagram #bibliophile #bookish

📖☕️ CURRENTLY READING… Hi friends, Happy #WorldBookDay and welcome to the second last Publication Day of April. 📚🥂 I’m absolutely delighted to be saying Happy Publication Day to Funny Story by Emily Henry! @emilyhenrywrites 🥳🥂🎉 💁🏼‍♀️ Friends, you could’ve knocked me over with a feather when I opened the mail last week to discover a finished copy of this HIGHLY ANTICIPATED new release! 😍 I squealed and jumped around like a little kid!! 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♂️ Unbelievably, after almost four years of being on Booksta, and despite the glowing reviews, I’ve somehow managed to not read anything from this author yet… I even have two EH books on my toppling TBR! 📚🙈🤭 But no matter, because I’m about to start this beauty with my afternoon cuppa (tea today) and since I was also lucky enough to receive the audiobook via the lovely folks at @librofm I’ll be pairing the physical and audiobook. 📖🎧☕️🫖🌸 📖✍🏻 Stay tuned for a review soon. In the meantime I’ll share my daily reading thoughts to My Stories. ❓Pick your QOTD: What will you be doing to celebrate World Book Day? If you’re a fan of Emily Henry which is your fav book? Are you eyeing off any new releases this week? Which ones? What’s in your mug today? ☕️ ✨ 🧡🍹💜 ✨ 📖 ABOUT THE BOOK 📖 “Set over one sizzling summer comes a shimmering, joyful new novel about the happily-ever-after that wasn’t and the exes determined to make the best of it.” Daphne always loved the way Peter told their story. That is until it became the prologue to his actual love story with his childhood bestie, Petra. Which is how Daphne ends up rooming with her total opposite and the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles. As expected, it’s not a match made in heaven – that is until one night, while tossing back tequilas, they form a plan. And if it involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their adventures together, well, who could blame them? But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex… right? ✨ 🧡🍹💜 ✨ Many 🙏🏼 @penguinbooksaus {ad/pr} 🎁

So this was an incredible surprise to come home to this week from @charmandareads 🖤🖤 "Once you turn this page, there is no turning back. You will enter into a world of untold villainy - of evil beyond your wildest dreams... or nightmares" The illustrations are stunning, and the back stories to all the villains were fun to read through! 🇦🇺✍🏻 DEBUT AUTHOR ✍🏻🇦🇺 Hi friends, Happy Friday! I’m back this week after struggling with my Booksta Mojo which apparently has temporarily deserted me! 😳🙈 I’m hoping today will be the start of a better patch… Burnout is real friends, remember to take those social media breaks!🧘🏼‍♀️ 💁🏼‍♀️ Today I’m spotlighting debut Aussie author Georgia Harper and her thought-provoking novel What I Would Do To You. It sounds like an intruiging and intense read, I’m looking forward to reading it soon — It’s OUT NOW! @georgiaharper_author 🇦🇺 #AussieApril2024 ❓How has your week been? What have you been reading/watching? 💁🏼‍♀️📖 I’ve just finished a buddy read of Beyond That, The Sea by Laura Spence-Ash. It was one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in a long time. 📺 We’re watching Sugar (Colin Farrell) on Apple TV and it’s fantastic! 🌿🥀🌿 📖 ABOUT THE BOOK 📖 “A compulsive debut for those who could not put down Dirt Town or Before You Knew My Name.” 🌿 A near-future Australia.
The death penalty is back. But if the victim’s family wants the perpetrator to die, they have to do it themselves. Twenty-four hours alone in a room with the condemned. No cameras. No microphones. Just whatever punishment they decide befits the crime.
🥀 Ten-year-old Lucy was murdered.
Through counselling sessions with their court-appointed psychologist, we learn the stories of her family members: Lucy’s two mothers – Stella and Matisse – her much older brother and her bookish teenage sister, who is too young to participate in the execution, but who has plans of her own . . .
🌿 Secrets and grief threaten to break the family.
As the execution date nears, already-struggling Stella remains adamant that she must carry out the punishment. But it becomes clear that if she steps into that room, the family may lose her too. 💁🏼‍♀️ What would you do? 🌿🥀🌿 🗣️ ‘From one of the best openings I’ve had the fortune to read, all the way to its staggering conclusion, What I Would Do to You does not relent. Surprising, ferocious and stubbornly full of heart. Georgia Harper announces her arrival on the literary scene!’ ✍🏻 HAYLEY SCRIVENOR, AUTHOR OF DIRT TOWN 🌿🥀

Another book out today 📚📚 It's been raining all day, and it's the perfect kind of weather to venture to the bookstore tonight. I'll be sure to share a birthday round up tomorrow if I pick up anything tonight 📖 thanks for the copy @mbc_books - if you're looking for something with unsolved murders, conspiracies, and plenty of suspense, then you need to snag a copy of this right away. I'm still piecing together my full review, but it's a solid 4⭐️ for me! Lost to Dune Road by Kara Thomas "Reporter Lee Ellerin’s investigation into a young woman’s unsolved murder gained national attention—only for her to lose everything due to a tragic mistake. After being publicly ridiculed for causing a suspect’s death, Lee is forced to leave her career behind. Five years later, pregnant college student Amanda Hartley lies in a coma. The police say she attempted suicide, but the details don’t add up. Where is the father? Who was paying for Amanda’s Manhattan penthouse? Why did Amanda have a note with Lee’s name in her backpack? There’s also one alarming coincidence: Amanda was last seen on Dune Road in the Hamptons—where the murder victim in Lee’s previous investigation disappeared. As she’s pulled back into the still-unsolved case that destroyed her career, Lee sees the chance to amend the mistakes of her past. But finding a killer and unearthing Amanda’s secrets sends her down a darker path than she has ever walked before." #mbcbooks #karathomas #losttoduneroad #bookbirthday #pubday #bookrelease #releaseday #newbooktuesday #jessicamapreviews2024 #jessicamapreviews #bookinhand #booksbooksbooks #booksoutside

I went almost 10 days without finishing a book. 👀 I just kept restarting the same couple books over and over before finally DNF-ing them earlier this week. I needed a for-sure win to make up for the multiple flops, so I fell back on a couple tried-and-true fiction series to get me moving again...and I finished reading both of these 👆today! I absolutely loved the art in this illustrated version of HP! I added these books to my collection after the last time I read through the series; I haven't actually let myself look through them much, wanting to wait until I was ready to read the series again. Jim Kay did a fantastic job capturing the sense of Hogwarts in his art. There was so much detail and work put into every page of the book, even the chapter headings are beautifully illuminated! I'm thoroughly looking forward to working through the next book's illustrated version! One thing I noticed very quickly about the Tempe Brennan books is that chapters often end with an obvious hook. That -what will happen moment; someone was at the door & she couldn't believe her eyes -kind of cliffhanger. While I can step back and say it IS used quite frequently (and sometimes might logically seem like it's a bit formulaic), honestly, it does its job and gets me reading the next page as quickly as possible. Today I skipped the first half of lunch because every chapter of Bones Are Forever hooked me into the next and I could NOT put it down until I finished! There is never 'just one more chapter' with this series when the end of a chapter is never a good holding point to leave off on. Reichs' writing sucks you in to have to keep reading. So I say, if it works, it works - and I'm here for it! 📚 We're getting ready for vacation so I'll be picking out a couple books to travel with! How many books do you usually pack for a long weekend trip? After all the flops I've had lately I'm probably taking more than I need, but I'm worried I'll end up with nothing good if I don't overpack. 🤣 Plus, I'm a mood reader. So I'm thinking two physical books plus at least 3 audiobooks downloaded & available to rotate?? Is that enough for 4 days & 10-12 hrs on the road?? 🤔 #bookoftheday

That blue sky peeking out is making me want all the green to come back. It's so much prettier when the leaves are in. Thanks to @tornightfire for the gifted copy 📚 Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes (out now!) Space is the perfect kind of backdrop for horror - and a subgenre I'd love to read more of (please give any recommendations!). Aliens and Life are two phenomenally creepy and intense horror movies in Space, and we need more like them. Anyway, on to the book! Space exploration, even with a crew, can be as isolating as it is suffocating, sharing such a confined space. So when Dr. Ophelia Bray is given the chance to join an exploration crew of an abandoned planet, she jumps at the opportunity. While she's focused on trying to study ERS - a condition entirely space-based that resulted in the gruesome murders of 29 people - and hopefully find a way to prevent it in the future. Her new crew members are far more focused on the abandoned planet they found themselves on. This book is slow moving. I think that's very important to know before you start. Personally, I always like knowing that so I can adjust expectations accordingly and get in the right mindset. There was a lot of being in Ophelia’s head for the book, not a ton of action, the pieces were mounting together, and I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did, but I wasn't exactly wowed by it either. If you're in the mood for something with a slow build and some eerie paranoia filled tension, then you should give this a read! #ghoststation #tornightfire #jessicamapreviews # #jessicamapreviews2024 #spacehorror #horror #horrorbooks #horrorfan #horrorbookstagram #ireadhorror #bookcommunity #booklovers #voraciousreader #readersgonnaread #bookinhand #almostspring #blueskies

📚 MINI REVIEWS 📚 Hi friends, tell me what’s made you smile this week? 😊 💁🏼‍♀️ I’d been curious about this series so when I received The Atlas Complex I decided to read the first two books, The Atlas Six and The Atlas Paradox to prepare for the finale. I borrowed both on 🎧 and read all three in this format. The books boasted a full cast of narrators who did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life! 🙈 Unfortunately this series wasn’t for me. I don’t typically read dark academia but I’ve been exploring new genres so went in with an open mind. Please keep in mind the below thoughts are my personal opinions, I’ve seen many positive reviews for this series and would urge you to seek them out! 👉🏻 for covers and blurbs of The Atlas Six and Paradox.❓Have you read this series? If so, thoughts? ✨ 📓 The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake Book 1 📖🎧 Length: 16 hrs Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 This was my favourite of the three. I loved that the story was set in a library! I found myself drawn to the characters of Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona. I loved their constant bickering—their chemistry sizzled and held my attention throughout. However, I wasn’t a fan of the longwinded, convoluted monologues Blake used to “tell” rather than “show” the story and my interest waned at the midway point. The ending saved this one with a breathtaking cliffhanger that had me reinvigorated for book two… ✨ 📔 The Atlas Paradox Book 2 📖🎧 Length: 17.36 hrs This book didn’t work for me. It felt repetitive and as with the first book, prone to long, laborious monologues about physics and morality. I’m not convinced it was necessary, it felt largely like filler content. The best part about this one was THAT 😱 surprise ending!! ✨ 📘 The Atlas Complex Book 3 📖🎧 Length: 20.37 hrs The first third focussed on introducing a host of new characters & recounting the gist of books 1 & 2 — I assume for the benefit of stand-alone readers? I found myself somewhat lost in this one. The plot felt unhinged and unbalanced. The characters’ actions became hard to comprehend and the whole story felt like it was self-destructing. In the end I was left disappointed & underwhelmed. ✨

✨The Neath Trilogy by @t.m.blanchet 💖 I have had the joy of being involved with this series since book one, and it seems like it has become a vacation tradition whenever a new one is coming out! So of course when packing for our mini getaway to celebrate Mary Jo’s very own chapter after taking a month of holding space for the loss of Louie, we had to pack our Neath books with him needing to catch up and me needing to finish book three before it comes out in April 23rd!! > pre-order link is in my bio 😉

My scribbled thoughts. #scribbler . It’s been a while since I sat down with a book, I got lot on my mind. It’s been a while since I finished a book in one go, my work keeps me occupied. It’s been a while since I enjoyed a movie, I end up watching comfort shows while multitasking. It’s been a while since I looked in the mirror without finding any flaws. It’s been a while since I sat alone without worrying about the uncertainties. It’s been a while since I enjoyed something without my to-do list in mind. What’s the last book that inspired you? It's definitely Grow Wild for me! And the photos in this are so beautifully done, too! There is so much joy & childlike wonder captured in the real life images submitted by families sharing moments of movement from their lives. While I was waiting to pick up the book from the library, I watched an interview with the author on the Evolve Move Play Podcast, specifically discussing Grow Wild. The podcast was a great launching point as it gave a solid overview, so I knew this would be highly applicable for us and thus worth the reading time. (If you don't have access to the book right away, I'd recommend looking up that episode on YT in the meantime.) I've been amazed seeing so much of what Katy Bowman wrote about in my kids the last couple days. Today the girls and I were out for a scenic drive trying to only take roads we didn't know to see what we could see. We slowed to look at a rock wall edging some property & my older daughter begged that I park so she could go climb on it. (I didn't.) That was followed by her sighing a few minutes later telling me she wished she could get out & explore the forest we were driving through. (Again, no.) And finally we came to some open fields that she wanted to run through. (Poor girl.) Totally by chance, our wandering drive ended up taking us by an uncle's road, so we made a detour and went on an adventure! My uncle gave us a tour of the (very muddy) property - which included fields to run through, a forest to expore, and even some old rock walls to climb on. Having freshly read some of Grow Wild (and listened to the podcast), it was so neat to see them exploring their environment in the same ways Bowman described. They were touching trees, snapping broken limbs, balancing on logs, splashing in puddles, checking out the streams and following it back to its source, and using the spring water to wash their muddy boots. Seeing them playing today was one of those affirming moments when you feel extra assured that what you're leaning into IS the right fit for your family. I'm so excited to keep reading and find ways we can incorporate more of these insights into our lives!

🥂📖 BOOK OF THE WEEK 🥂📖 Hi friends, bring on the weekend! I’m waiting on my bookcases to arrive and thought I’d take the opportunity to spotlight the last of my publication week books—I did it friends, I got them all posted—phew! In hindsight, I think I’ll just stick to a pub day bookstack when I have so many and post individually throughout the month. 📚📚😳🫠 Anyhoo, let’s talk about this Highly Anticipated new release which published on Wednesday April 3rd. Happy Publication Week to Bri Lee and her debut novel, The Work. @bri.e.lee 🥳🥂🎉 💁🏼‍♀️ I’m very excited about this book, it’s been on my radar for months and I couldn’t be happier for it be be my Book Of The Week! Check it out👇🏻below. ❓Do you enjoy visiting art galleries? Have you been to New York? ✨🖼️✨ 📖 ABOUT THE BOOK 📖 Lally has invested everything into her gallery in Manhattan and the sacrifices are finally paying off. Pat is a scholarship boy desperate to establish himself in Sydney's antiquities scene. When they meet at New York's Armory Show their chemistry is instant - fighting about art and politics is just foreplay. With an ocean between them they try to get back to work, but they're each struggling to balance money and ambition with the love of art that first drew them to their strange industry. Lally is a kingmaker, bringing exciting new talent to the world, so what's the problem if it's also making her rich? Pat can barely pay his rent and he isn't sure if he's taking advantage of his clients or if they are taking advantage of him, and which would be worse? Their international affair ebbs and flows like the market, while their aspirations and insecurities are driving them both towards career-ending mistakes. If love costs and art takes, what price do we pay for wanting it all? The Work is about the biggest intersections of life: of art and commerce, of intimacy and distance, of talent and entitlement, and of labour and privilege. Dazzling, funny and unforgettable, it is an epic and forensic exploration of modern love and passion, politics and power. The Work announces a brilliant new voice in Australian fiction. ✨🖼️✨ Many 🙏🏼 @allenandunwin {ad/pr} 🎁

Happy Friday, friends — we made it! 🐻 Today, I wanted to feature HOW TO BE BRAVE, a sweet new picture book from @candlewickpress that helps kids overcome their fear of failing & embrace the journey of trying something new. It also focuses on the chance of making new friends along the way. The twins are about to turn four, and they are definitely losing that fearlessness of early toddlerhood and experiencing some hesitancy, or like they can’t so things. So I love the language this book uses to encourage kids to try even if they might not get it right away. While waiting for her sudden absence to spark a change of heart in Simon, Audrey finds solace in the charms of the French countryside and the company of her aged aunt and a cast of eccentric Bretons. 💁🏼‍♀️ “Audrey’s Gone AWOL is a funny and beautifully observed story about losing yourself, finding yourself, and discovering joy.” ✨ 💙🌹💙 Many 🙏🏼 @ultimopress {ad/pr} 🎁

🎉 PUBLICATION DAY FEATURE 🎉 Hi friends, it’s a HUGE Publication Day and boy are there some exciting new titles in bookstores today! My April Wishlist is growing at lightning speed looking at the shiny new books — they’re calling me friends… 🤩📚🛍️ #IHaveNoShelfControl 📚 I’m counting my lucky stars because I have a swag of new books generously 🎁 to me from publishers and I can’t wait to dive in, starting with one of my favourite Aussie authors, the utterly delightful Averil Kenny and her stunning new novel, The Mistress of Dara Island. @averilkennyauthor 🥳🥂🎉 💁🏼‍♀️ I’ve been a fan of Averil’s beautifully descriptive stories since I first started my Booksta account. Those Hamilton Sisters, Averil’s debut novel, was one of my earliest publisher ARCs from my friends at Echo Publishing and I couldn’t be more grateful for the introduction to the writing of this wonderful historical fiction author. 📖🎧 I’m currently re-reading Averil’s last book, The Girls of Lake Evelyn (as an audiobook this time) to coincide with its release in the compact-sized mass market paperback edition. If you haven’t seen the gorgeous cover swipe 👉🏻 and keep your eyes peeled for my audiobook review! In the meantime, check out the mini blurb👇🏻for The Mistress of Dara Island and let me know if it sounds like your jam. I love HF so it’s right up my alley! Swipe for full blurb. 📖👉🏻 ❓Fav March read? 🌿🌼🌿 📖ABOUT THE BOOK📖 🌿 A tropical paradise is her birthright … but will its dark secrets destroy her dreams? In the 1960s, a tropical island in the Coral Sea hides dark secrets behind its primordial beauty. ‘Tally’ Ramsey has grown up barefoot, wild and free on the island purchased by her maternal grandfather. It’s a paradise with two faces: an idyllic honeymoon resort for the rich and famous; and an untamed coastline with steeply rising peaks covered in impenetrable jungle. After a sudden disappearance from the island, Tally embarks on a desperate search that leads her deep into Dara’s treacherous wilderness – a journey that will challenge all her assumptions about herself, her home and the people she loves. 🌿🌼🌿 🙏🏼 @echo_publishing {ad/pr} 🎁

The whole fam grabbed some last minute fresh air (and I grabbed an audiobook) before the winter weather decides to make a comeback this week. ❄️😭❄️ PS! When I updated my goodreads tonight I realized I finished my 24th book of 2024 today! Woohoo! 😎 A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking was a short, fun, and entertaining read. I listened to this one in less than a day. Imagine The Gingerbread Man (yes, the children's story where the gingerbread comes to life and has a mind of its own) set in a Wonderland-esque world of absurd situations, and then add in a #murdermystery , political intrigue, and some uniquely imaginative magic. It's been a busy week or two and, out of necessity, time to do hobbies like reading and knitting had to momentarily pause. But this morning I was determined to carve out a golden hour for myself to dive into a new book and a double cup of @everydaydose mushroom coffee! 📖🍄☕ This will be my second @ladyhawkins book. The first one I read was The Wife Upstairs, which is a retelling of Jane Eyre. I flew through that in two sittings, so I've been very much looking forward to trying another. This stunner is out now! Thanks to @titanbooks for the gifted copy 📚 A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock - #jessicamapreviews2024 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! A queer mash-up of Little Shop of Horrors meets Frankenstein in this new gothic horror meets historical fiction debut! Set in Victorian London, we meet Simon and Gregor. Two men that reside within a stunning botanical garden where they can keep to themselves. Simon is a talented taxidermist, and Gregor is a celebrated botanist. One day, Gregor acquires a new and strange fungus, one that shows signs of intelligence. Gregor and Simon combine their talents, expertise, and knowledge to create Chloe. As she thrives, it becomes harder and harder to keep her hidden away in their beautiful greenhouse. What ensues is a dark story about relationships, love, family, and humanity. The Frankenstein elements are very clear - bringing a plant to life on taxidermy remains of a young woman. I wouldn't necessarily say this is a terrifying horror novel. This is dark, and it's a solid monster story. It's beautifully written and an impressive debut! "Mexican Gothic meets The Lie Tree by way of Oscar Wilde and Mary Shelley in this delightfully witty horror debut. A captivating tale of two Victorian gentlemen hiding their relationship away in a botanical garden who embark on a Frankenstein-style experiment with unexpected consequences." #abotanicaldaughter #noahmedlock #titanbooks #jessicamapreviews #frankenstein #gothichorror #historicalfiction #queerfiction #queerhorror #retellings #debutauthor #debutnovel #bookreviews #bookinhand #bookish

Happy Monday friends! What are you excited about this week? My cousin will be dropping in for a visit and I am STOKED. A little back story in 2008 two of my cousins and I moved out here to San Diego. Two of us had never even been here before. 😅 They’re basically my brothers, and they both have since moved back across the country. Hence the stoke. 😉 ~~~ The Brother’s Hawthorn was a fun dual POV read that takes place after the events of The Final Gambit. I really enjoyed revisiting the Hawthorn family and their games. Reading from the perspectives of Grayson and Jameson you really got a feel for how their grandfather’s parenting affected them. Even after his passing his words both encourage and taunt them. While there were still the famous puzzles and games, I felt less able to solve them in this book. Maybe there were too many moving parts? Maybe I wasn’t as invested? Or maybe it was something else entirely. Either way this was a fun easy read, that reminded me I wanted to make a crazy puzzle/game for my family to solve too. 🤣

✌🏻 TWO FOR TUESDAY ✌🏻 Hi friends, I’m back with a #TwoForTuesday Special Thriller Edition to say Happy Publication Day to these two exciting books releasing in Australia today! 🥂🎉 I’m so excited to read both of these — I’ve already been hearing amazing things about them. As you can see I have a jam-packed reading agenda for March and with my holidays just around the corner (end of this week!) I’m ready to dive into some amazing new releases — what more could I ask for? Aside from great weather and a cocktail or two… 😏🍹 💁🏼‍♀️ I devoured Red Queen last year and was blown away, I’ve been dying for the next book in the series to release ever since. Have you read Red Queen or either of these two books? Thoughts? 👀 Swipe 👉🏻 for blurbs, see below for minis. Reviews to follow early April. ❓Did you watch the Oscars yesterday? Favourite moment? Or, tell me a popular (old or new) Oscar-winning movie that you still haven’t seen? 🎥🍿 ✨ 🔪🖤🔪 ✨ 📕 Black Wolf by Juan Gómez-Jurado @juangomezjurado Publisher: Pan Macmillan RRP: $34.99 Genre: Thriller/Suspense Black Wolf: The 2nd Novel In The International Bestselling Phenomenon Red Queen Series. 🎉 HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY! 🎉 Hi friends and welcome to another exciting Publication Day! 🥂 Today I have three fantastic new releases to showcase starting with a book that I’m over the moon to have on my March TBR! 📚 🥳 A big Happy Publication Day to Small Hours by Bobby Palmer, one of my most anticipated reads for the first half of 2024! @thebobpalmer 🥂🎉 💁🏼‍♀️ How beautiful is this limited edition ARC cover? I’m smitten and I also love the finished cover which I’ve included here, just swipe 👉🏻 to see. I might have to buy the finished cover too, it’s just so pretty! 🤩🦊 ❓Pick your QOTD: Do you buy multiple copies of your fav books for the different covers, limited editions, overseas covers, etc? Do you keep special ARC editions of books you’ve received or pass them on after you’ve read them? Have you read this book or Isaac and the Egg by Bobby Palmer? 💁🏼‍♀️ I can’t wait to read Small Hours, it sounds like a beautiful story. I really loved Palmer’s first book, Isaac and the Egg last year so I have high hopes for this one! It’s another book I’ll be reading during my holidays. 📖🍹 🌙 🧡🦊💜 🌙 📖ABOUT THE BOOK📖 ✨ If you stood before sunrise in this wild old place, looking through the trees into the garden, here’s what you’d see: 🍂 A father and son, a fox standing between them. 🍂 Jack, home for the first time in years, still determined to be the opposite of his father. 🍂 Gerry, who would rather talk to animals than the angry man back under his roof. ✨ Everything that follows is because of the fox, and because Jack’s mother is missing. It spans generations of big dreams and lost time, unexpected connections and things falling apart, great wide worlds and the moments that define us. 🍂 If you met them in the small hours, you’d begin to piece together their story. 🌙 💜🦊🧡 🌙 With many thanks 🙏🏼 to the wonderful team @hachetteaus for sending this beautiful book my way. {ad/pr} 🎁

QOTD: Do you have a preferred reading format? . Is anyone else struggling with the Daylight Savings time change? I’m soooooo tired, I need either 24 hours or sleep or like 10 espresso shots. . I’m a physical book reading girl, but once in awhile I’ll read an ebook. My most recent ebook was A CURSED SON by @day_leitao , a brand new NA Fantasy Romance. The book is available now in all formats and if you want to know my Top 5 Reasons to read it, you can see them below. 1. It has two of my favorite tropes, enemies-to-lovers and arranged marriage. 2. The magical elements manifest in unique and interesting powers. 3. There are Fae characters, but they are reminiscent of traditional Fae. Some have cat ears, gills, bark like and green or blue skin. 4. The main characters fall in love with each other both in real life and through various dream sequences. 5. Look at this cover 😍 a big thank you to @algonquinyr and @novelsuspects for the gifted copy 📚 A new YA thriller with some horror elements sprinkled in. I loved that this took place in just a 24-hour period. This kept the pace moving, and I'll always enjoy the isolated stories like this. However, with it being under 250 pages, there's isn't a ton of room for character development, but I think the author did a good job bringing Case and Drea to life. If you're looking for something scary, then you'll end up mildly disappointed. The synopsis compares to two books that are DEFINITELY scary (and I loved both), but they aren't fair comparisons. I think that sets unrealistic expectations for readers. Don't get me wrong, this was a weird, wild, and truly strange book. There were some good moments of suspense, and I think people will enjoy this one. I will definitely pick up more from this author in the future! #jessicamapreviews2024 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! Clever Creatures of the Night by Samantha Mabry "When Case’s best friend Drea goes missing, Case dives into the bizarre, cultlike—and possibly murderous—behavior of Drea’s roommates in this gripping literary horror novel for fans of The Honeys and Mexican Gothic." #jessicamapreviews #novelsuspects #clevercreaturesofthenight #yabooks #yathriller #bookish #bookinhand #booksoutside #beautifulbooks #bookpost #bookreview #bookblogger #newbooks #bookworm

Hello friends happy Wednesday! 🍀🍀 What’s your weather like? This picture should in theory be filled with snow but it’s been unseasonably warm lately. 🍀🍀 Thank you to @algonquinyr for this copy of Clever Creatures of the Night by @samantha_mabry_tx! ✨Synopsis✨ Something bad happened here. When Case arrives at a run-down, ivy-covered house tucked deep in the West Texas woods, an ashy haze lingers in the air and the sky is tissue-paper pink. Her best friend Drea has been living here with a few classmates Case has never met, and Drea asked her to visit in a letter dated two weeks ago. But now Drea is nowhere to be found. Drea’s roommates can’t—or won’t—answer questions, leaving Case to search alone. She finds bits of Drea’s journal hidden in the tiles of the bathroom wall, in a beat-up cooler by the muddy river, wedged into the frame of her closet door. As Case pieces together Drea’s life in this strange house, the roommates’ behavior puts her increasingly on edge—and she’s not the only one. The animals nearby are lashing out, attacking each other, threatening the humans. Something bad happened in this house. Something that must be connected to Drea’s disappearance. And if she gets too close to the truth, Case just might be next. • #bookstyle #booksofig #booklife #booklifestyle #iamreading #youngadult #yabookstagram #bookgeek #readingislife #bookstagram #booksta #totalnerd #bookishpost #ireadya #mybookfeatures #booktok #algonquinyr #coverlove #booksoutside #bookinhand

It’s a good time for all things green — spring is coming, and St. Patrick’s Day is almost here — so today seems like the perfect time to share our copy of LITTLE GREEN DONKEY from @candlewickpress 🍀 This adorable picture book follows little donkey, who loves to eat grass. But he ignores his mother’s warning to eat a variety of food and instead eats too much grass … and turns green! My kids love this silly read-a-loud, and I like the underlying message to eat different foods. It’s a win-win. What’s your favorite food to eat too much of sometimes? Mine is definitely cheese. #littlegreendonkey #candlewickpress #kidsbooks #kidsbookstagram #kidlitbooks #picturebooks #bookinhand #raisingreaders #picturebookreview #kidsbookreview

Happy Monday! Here's a new mystery that releases tomorrow 📚 thanks to @mbc_books for the gifted copy! Alternating between two times lines and six POVs, we get a slower burn psychological suspense that will keep you on edge until the end. It's a little on the slower side when it comes to the opening, but things begin to pick up, and I wasn't expecting an aspect of the ending. If you're a fan of a lot of POVs and cold cases, then this is the one for you! The Unquiet Bones by Loreth Anne White A shocking discovery of human bones reopens an almost fifty-year-old cold case—and rips apart the lives of a group of friends—in a riveting novel by Loreth Anne White, the Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestselling author of The Maid’s Diary." #mbcbooks #lorethannewhite #theunquietbones #psychologicalsuspense #mysteries #newbooks #jessicamapreviews #jessicamapreviews2024 #bookinhand #bookfeature #bookpost #bloggersofinstagram #blogtour
