May 2023's trip was to the holy land, Ancient Israel, while discussing Lamb by Christopher Moore. We learned that the food- while pretty, was not really suited to our tastes. Which is totally fine given that many of the dishes were made with SUPER old timey recipes so seasoning & such was quite limited. And keeping in the spirit of the book, we definitely broke some holy laws regarding food. The unholy menu: Mujadarra - a lentil & bulgur pilaf type dish. It was really good and I'll probably make this one again. Pomegrate Glazed Chicken served over rice - not bad but definitely lacking something Labneh- this one I may play around with some more Pomegrate and Poached Apricots in a Honey Syrup- dried apricots are not good! Unleavened Bread- meh, this one was my fault. I made it too early. Look, I absolutely love Christopher Moore. Iâve read every single one of his books and it was collecting signed editions (all but one being first editions) of his books that jump-started a small-but-growing âautographed,â section of my bookshelves. I even like the SF Giants over any other team because Moore paints the city with such a beautiful cast of misfits and lovable idiots. And I think that Practical Demonkeeping is a fine book. But if you havenât read Moore before, Iâd recommend a different one first (âA Dirty Job,â if you like comedy, âBloodsucking Fiends,â if you like vampires, âNoir,â if you liked the movie Dead Men Donât Wear Plaid, or âA Serpent In Venice,â if you like Shakespeare). Practical Demonkeeping is a great book to look back on and see the bones of what Moore would build on to become as great as he is now. Every now and then, I need a Christopher Moore novel. In the past, he has introduced me to the stupidest angel, Jesusâ best friend, Biff, and a reluctant angel of death. A few weeks ago, I checked âShakespeare for Squirrelsâ out of the library, but it was a slog! I didnât realize that it was the third volume of a series, so I gave that up and found âNoirâ was finally available to be checked out. I had wanted to read it for a long time. It's a humorous, somewhat absurd book, where Biff is resurrected in the 20th century and ordered to write down his account of the missing years of Jesus's life under the watchful eye of angel Raziel, who has a weakness for chocolate and TV. đș While Jesus (or Joshua) displays godlike powers and maturity well beyond his years from the start, Biff is your typical rowdy teenager full of stupid ideas, so the pair get up to all sorts of adventures while Jesus learns to become the Messiah. Book Pic Day 18 Scary Movie (funny horror) This is my first Christopher Moore book, and lemme tell you that this was pretty funny. There were a few times I snorted. One of the physical characteristics I love about this book is that it actually glows in the dark! How cool is that?! It was pretty funny how I found that out. I keep my TBR books in my room and then transfer them to the bonus room when Iâm done. This book was on top of the TBR stack. Well, when I went to bed, I noticed a weird glow. When I got closer, I saw that the white lettering actually glows in the dark! I thought that was just the neatest thing. The Book of the Dead rules: 1. This is the first in a trilogy starring Jody, a normal girl in San Francisco who is attacked one night and had to figure out her new reality. Moore is incredible in his ability to give characters depth and make any subject humorous. Book 10 of 2019. This one was totally bizarro. I've read Christopher Moore before, so I shouldn't have been surprised. Overall I enjoyed it. Next book âïž 4/5 stars This book was good. Like really good. It challenged me to look and research more into my own faith. Even though this book is fiction, I was able to pull so much out of it. It really shows how much is not public about the Christian faith and the life of Jesus. The only issue (and itâs not really an issue) I had with this book was how dense it was. Itâs not a book you can pick up because you have a few minutes. You have to sit and read a little bit, then think about it. This book took me so long to read and itâs not a long book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to look at the Christian faith from a new perspective
Book 18: comedy/satire, much needed after book 17. Really enjoyed this one! I've read Christopher Moore before and forgot how much I like his writing. I also used to read a lot of Shakespeare plays, so this was a fun take on plays I've read before.
