Holly knows about skin infections. She was eaten alive by lice as a tiny puppy and suffered terrible abscesses. Now she's got deep Pyoderma which is a bacterial infection. We knew there was something wrong when she took up residence in Thep's bathroom. The tiled floor was cool of course but Holly was hiding away. We found a small wet sore on the back of her neck and treated it immediately. The next day the infection had spread across the back of her neck and it was wet and full of puss. No wonder she's feeling unwell. After 2 days treatment the nasty wet infection has started to dry out and become crusty. Today Holly needed a shampoo to help stop the infection from spreading and wash off some of the crusty dead skin. She's now feeling much better but these pictures show what Holly thought of her shower! She will need a shower every 2 or 3 days until the infection has healed.. “Some people you know for a lifetime, but they never really make an imprint on your soul, and some people you only have to know for an instant to know they will be part of you forever.” I started reading this book in December but had to stop for a bit. It's a story of loss, grief, love, and fate. I was drawn by the idea of writing to a stranger. Not an ordinary stranger but someone who, like you, also lost someone. The universe and fate brought and linked the characters together. It's an emotional book to read during holidays. But I enjoyed reading the character's growth, the relationship built, and the slightly complicated love story. I love found family and perseverance of the characters, even the one keeps telling them to butt off. The last few chapters had me in tears. Love, forgiveness, and letting go just hit your heart. I am glad I read this book. 🫶🏻This book!🫶🏻 ☕️ This book was so much more than I expected! I bought it during the Holiday season but just didn’t manage to pick it up. But I’d heard it was so good and finally read it.🫖 . Holly and her pregnant sister stop by a country cafe on their way to visit family on Christmas Eve. Holly literally bumps into a stranger and the get into conversation after she spills coffee on his shirt. There seems to be a chemistry between them, and as Holly leaves, he writes his phone number on her cup. Through out the story I knew Max was trying to tell Josie something important but could never get it out. My speculations were correct, but I was not expecting the way it would end. What a complete tearjerker. It was such a great read but a sad one for sure. This is my second book from Emily Stone and I’ve loved both stories and her writing style. I just love her writing so much and she tells such great stories. I loved the characters and Emma cracked me up the whole time. She was so spunky and the banter was great! I had this on my list to read last month but I got a little burnt out on cutesy holiday romances so I put it off. Well DON'T let this adorable cover fool you like it did me. 1- it's not overly Christmassy so it can be enjoyed any time and 2- romance is not the main plot. I would call it contemporary fiction with a sprinkle of romance. I went back and forth between rating four or five stars but any book that makes me ugly cry deserves five because I am not an overly emotional person 😂 Holly is involved in a tragic accident and 3 years later is still unable to forgive herself. Alone for Christmas again, she's encouraged by her friend to write a "Dear Stranger" letter, which is essentially an anonymous penpal program for lonely-hearts people. The letter that Holly receives ends up being not so anonymous as she recognizes the cafe described, and she decides to seek out the author. What follows is an incredible story of fate, found family, friendships, forgiveness, grief, love, and second chances at happiness. I think this would be a great book for a book club as I have so many more thoughts but I don't want to spoil anything by sharing here. It does have a specific few subjects that could be a trigger so I'll add those in comments below! 🤍

In December, I read Love Holly by Emily Stone (called The Christmas Letter in the UK). It’s not 100% focused on the holidays so you can read it anytime. It’s a beautiful story about grief and family and love and how 3 main characters navigate those topics. Swipe ➡️ for Goodreads synopsis. I read this book for my school book club, and we met about it last week. We all had similar thoughts… This book was just okay. I liked how it started, but the plot quickly got repetitive, and the romance will give you some whiplash as it’s never the “right” time 🙄 Holly and Jack were both immature at times, and I wasn’t really a fan of them. I ended up skimming a lot of it just to finish (I was also running out of time before our book club meeting, so my fault). I liked Emma, the grandmother, and the letters in the story. Emma and Holly had an interesting connection as they both went through similar traumas (this book does have some depth with its topics), but I found Emma to bring some humor to keep it lighter. This book barely has snow on it, but enough to count as my January book for the #SeasonalCoversChallenge that Bethany @books_by_bethany and I are hosting! I was already a huge fan of her after reading One Last Gift last year, and now i am an even bigger fan. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a comfort read because that is definitely what Love, Holly was for me. This book follows a woman named Holly, after a Christmas time tragedy turns her world upside down. While grieving her loss over the course of several years, she connects with a woman named Emma, who is also grieving, alone, and dying. Holly and Emma quickly become close friends and help each other through their grief. The more time goes on, the more Holly realizes that her life is intertwined with Emma's in many more ways than she realized. Could connecting with Emma bring her back to her estranged family and help her find the love of her life? I absolutely love the world that Emily Stone created. This book wrecked me in the absolute best possible way. I went into this thinking it was going to be a cute little Christmas romance. But it was so much deeper than that and dealt with grief and how to process it and how it affects how you live the rest of your life and the people around you. 📖 Review 📖 Love, Holly by @emstonewrites ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I picked this book for my December @hushbug_book_box selection and I’m so glad I did! Love, Holly while marketed as a Christmas book can really be read any time. The story starts and ends at Christmas but the story is much more than that. We begin with a typical romcom meet cute in a coffee shop while Holly and her sister are on route in the English countryside to meet their parents for Christmas. Holly happens to bump (literally) in to the handsome Jack in a coffee shop. But what begins as typical, is anything but. That day is the beginning of a future of grief, guilt and loneliness for Holly. It’s only due to participating in a Dear Stranger letter writing group does Holly find her way back. This is a lovely heartwarming story but it’s deeper than your usual romcom. It will make you laugh but it’s also filled with loss, grief, sickness and thankfully, friendship and forgiveness. I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend you seek this one out. It reads well at Christmas or anytime. ☕️ Pairing: A good cup of coffee There is nothing more heartwarming than a good cup of coffee. This one is from @firebean_coffee_roasters based in Whitehorse, Yukon and was a gift from my friend Melissa @planningnorthof60 in our recent secret Santa exchange. My (probably) last book of 2023! This festive book focuses a lot on grief/loss/family/friendship themes along with the romance piece which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed Emily Stone’s writing style. I just felt it was a bit too dramatic at times which left me rating it 3.5 stars. Here’s to a lot more books in 2024!

My December reads! The holidays can be stressful enough on their own, so I really lean towards the light, hallmark-style Christmas reads in December (in case you couldn’t tell). I really loved all these books - Midnight at the Christmas Bookshop being the possible exception (it was a sequel to one I enjoyed last year, and not nearly as good). This year, she received a compelling letter from one Emma Tooley, whom she was keen to meet after reading her letter. Sensing a form of kinship from the letter alone, Holly sets out to find Emma. Only to find out that Emma is nothing like she imagined. Irritable, bossy and grumpy, Emma was angry with Holly right from the start...until Holly learns about Emma's past, and that she wishes to reconnect with her estranged grandson, Jack. Jack, whom Emma might have met once upon a time... I loved the idea of serendipity, and fate that is portrayed time and again in the book. I always loved the fact that we cross paths with people for a reason, and in this story, Emma, Holly and Jack seem to be missing pieces who are always completing each other to form a unique puzzle. It is heartwarming to read about how the different characters gave each other the strength, support and compassion to overcome their past traumas. I also loved the sanctity of family that was always brought up in the book, as the characters yearn to reach out and constantly reconnect with their loved ones. So I read Love, Holly this week and it has cemented @emstonewrites as the Queen of heartfelt, but beautiful Christmas stories. Holly has had a tough few years after a car accident and a falling out with her sister. She spends Christmas alone writing letters to other people who are spending the holidays alone. Holly receives a sad letter this year, but she knows the area where this letter has come from and the letter is signed. She decides to visit the woman and maybe they won’t be lonely together. But Emma isn’t welcoming and doesn’t want a new friend. Holly is determined to reunite Emma and her grandson. She knows a few details and when she goes to his office building… she discovers she has already met him. And they have instant chemistry. I love how all the stories intertwine and that Christmas isn’t always a jolly time for everyone. I really love that Emma gave Holly a chance even after Holly is beyond overstepping with her grandson. 📚B O O K•R E V I E W📚 •Love,Holly-Emily Stone •Romance •🎧Audiobook •3.5⭐️/5 Another book I went into knowing nothing. However, I think I was unprepared for just how heavy of a read this one would be. If you’re one that needs to know trigger warnings before reading a book-I’d definitely look into this one because there is A LOT in this one! This is no happy light Christmas read. Even with all that 👆🏽I still enjoyed this book. I think if I had known it was a heavier read, and been prepare for that, I might have enjoyed it more. It’s sad yet heartwarming. It’s heartbreaking yet healing. It talks about grief and guilt and having the courage to forgive not only others but yourself.
