I'll end up doing other parts to this post but here's a list of authors I'm recognizing today because I love their storytelling. @authoramandaauler I was absolutely in love with the adventure and storytelling in her Mothmar Trilogy. There were so many twists, prophecies, character complexities to be seen. Books 1 & 2 (DAUGHTER OF THE SUN & CHILDREN OF THE EARTH) were so immersive that I'm waiting on book 3 with all the patience I can muster. This is definitely something that I would get physical copies for my small collection of books. Shelves or carts? Love fantasy? Yup. I recommend. @moriah.chavis If you're looking for a pirate book with water magic along with some unique the other magic. Something with dark vs light, sinister creatures,& packed with betrayal. This is it. There's a part of the story that makes me feel like this immersive world deserves a video game adaptation. Safe to say...I'm wanting a physical copy of HEART OF THE SEA. @victoria_mccombs Gotta say that her Oathbound Trilogy is still on my Want To Read list after a long time but I would read this backlog for reviews if she offered. Meanwhile, I'm saving for this series. Physical copies needed as I know she does quality fantasy. Mortal Queens is a book that captivated my attention with strategy, beautiful world-building, & a plot that feels intense. I'm so happy to hear more about the second half of this duology. For The Belonging through Poetry Project: Day 14, I want to tell you about a beautiful book of haiku by Linda Nemec Foster with images by Dianne Carroll Burdick. I picked up my copy of Listen to the Landscape from a local independent bookstore when I was in Grand Rapids last week and Iโve been enjoying it immensely. Please see one of the haiku and image pairings from the book in this post above. I love how the words belong to the photo. Such a delight to think about how words can belong to images and how those belongings help me make other connections in my life and beyond.

๐ ๐ ๐ My sleep schedule is rocky on its own, but I've been determined to try and fix it . . . at some point. Last night, apparently, was not the night to try to accomplish such progress. Thursday night I had agreed to help with serving food for the Special Olympics breakfast this morning, from 7:45 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.. Last night, I resolved to go to bed at a reasonable time so I could drag myself out of bed early enough. Well, I was sort of up and about until sometime around midnight, and at that point I was telling myself to head to bed. This is when I made my mistake: I opened my kindle. At first I told myself I was just going to skim through a book I'd read before, just until I got drowsy, but then this book caught my eye, so I downloaded it and started reading at the very beginning (keep in mind, it was midnight). I promised myself I'd only read a few chapters. But the chapters were short, so I kept telling myself "one more", and . . . well, at about 3:12 A.M., I set my kindle on the bookshelf beside my bed, having read Salt & Broom all the way through. While my body heavily protested when it was time to get up, I don't have any regrets. Salt & Broom by @sharonlynnfisherauthor is a GREAT story! From what I've picked up, it's a retelling of Jane Eyre. I've never read or seen Jane Eyre, so I can't really make the connections there, but even without knowing that, the story is great! It's witchy and magical and autumn-y, and a pretty quick read. I wasn't expecting to get as hooked as I was, but I'm glad I decided to read it, because it was beautiful story-telling and has sort of boosted my own creativity, so I hope to dive back into my own writing with renewed love for the craft. ๐ If you haven't read Salt & Broom, I definitely recommend it! Also, enjoy a random picture from the sunrise this morning. Grand Rapids + Festival of Faith & Writing in Ten Not pictured: So many wonderful encounters and conversations with so many beautiful people. Much love to those I was honored to be with briefly, to those I got to talk to for more than a few minutes, to those whom I ran into accidentally, to those with whom I didnโt have enough time. And there are a few people I hoped to at least hug but didnโt get to see even though we were in the same city at the same time. I guess we have to attend FFW in two years and try again.๐ I feel bad for making that one person feel uncomfortable last night by talking about how sheโs famous in these circles. And I mightโve overshared a tad with a few people during one conversation at the same gathering. It happens. I fell hard for Michigan and will be back soon, within the year if I have my way. Also, this week was my third forsythia season of the year after Birminghamโs in February and Ashevilleโs in March. Highly recommend multiple forsythia seasons whenever possible. It wasnโt like I picked up a book of Komunyakaaโs poetry and suddenly I wasnโt addicted. Early in recovery, it was as if Iโd wake up and ask, How do I not accidentally kill myself for the next hour? And poetry, more often than not, was the answer to that. I would pick up Neon Vernacular and then I would have a place to be for, like, four hours.
