The whole book revolved around the Enemies to lovers/arranged marriage tropes so I found the whole thing a bit confusing and boring.

📖 BOOK REVIEW: FIRST LIE WINS by Ashley Elston 📖 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5 rounded down to 3) First Lie Wins is a twisty spy thriller that has everyone talking. The plot seemed intriguing, but (unpopular opinion) fell a little flat for me. I wasn't sure if this was just super overhyped, so my expectations were through the roof, but the plot was slightly confusing with all the flashbacks and aliases, which made it hard to follow at times. I was also disappointed that I was able to predict most of the plot twists. Because of the predictability, I also felt like this one dragged on a bit, and it didn't hold my attention like I was expecting it to. I did like the MC, she was sassy and had a bit of an ego. Spy thrillers are always kind of fun, because the spies tend to end up in questionable situations and get involved with people they can't trust. I will probably go back and reread this (as I listened to the audiobook initially), and maybe reading my physical copy will hook me more than the audio did. 🌟🌟🌟/🌶️🌶️ I went MIA for a while due to personal and work life being absolute chaos. My mental health took a dip as well and when that happens, I tend to start multiple books at a time until I find one for that mood. Been reading a lot of age gap/care taking books and just didn’t feel like posting on IG. Felt like it took a lot of energy I didn’t have to spare. I’m sure a lot of you know exactly what I mean. I finally finished this trilogy and I lost interest about 1/2 way through the final book. I struggle to DNF and this trilogy sounded incredible so I continued on!! It does have a crazy twist ending that I did not expect. Good spice and fun characters. Please don’t take my star rating as anything other than my opinion at this very moment. 🌒🦇 Current Mood / TBR 🦇🌒 My birthday is later this month, so I thought now would be a good time to showcase some of the books currently on my TBR that I’m excited about because, let’s face facts, these books are about to have some major competition in the form of BIRTHDAY BOOKS!! 😆 I’m not gonna lie, my birthday is still a few weeks away, and I’ve already ordered several new books. Being a mood reader can be so fun but it can also put a lot of pressure on you to focus more on your TBR, I never want to feel that way but I also do want to make an effort to tackle the books I say I’m going to read! Book 17 of 2024 📚 I almost DNF'd this book about a half hour in - #moodreaderproblems - but I'm glad I stuck around. I loved the characters and the way the author made the locations alive. This book was described as "rural noir" and I can see why. Connection to the land is the centerpiece of this story. Now, this was a long audiobook. I clocked it at 14 hours and 38 minutes. I want to re-read but probably wouldn't do it in this format again. I'd rather pick up a print copy and lounge around in the sun. I would highly recommend (4.5 ⭐) picking up this book at least once, despite the very slow pacing. "On an island in the Great Massasauga Swamp, herbalist Hermine "Herself" Zook has healed the local women of their ailments for generations. As stubborn as her tonics are powerful, Herself inspires reverence and fear in the people of Whiteheart, and even in her own three daughters."

I saw Rancher’s Edge by Bonnie Poitier on a post by @melissafoster_author about a giveaway of Rancher’s Edge and Melissa’s book, A Taste Of Whiskey. I was in a cowboy mood so I went to Amazon and got Rancher’s Edge right then (sorry TBR! #moodreaderproblems ) and I’m SO happy I did! I loved this book! This book is the story of Kipp, ranch owner, and Nora, a single mom barista. The story begins when Kipp comes into the coffee shop to see Nora’s boss mistreating her. He in turn tells him to knock it off and then offers her a job as the cook on his ranch. Kipp and his four friends own and run Flying Diamond 5 Ranch. Nora and her son, Cooper, are new to town. Their back story is a mystery that you find out about more as you read. I loved the feeling of found family on the ranch. As a mom I related to Nora letting being a mother/making sure Cooper was taken care of and loved become her whole being. Through finding Kipp and the found family helping her care for Cooper she’s able to find more of herself again. This book was another one I devoured, I couldn’t put it down once I got hooked in. I am so happy that this is only the first book of a series and I cannot wait to read the other 4 owners of the ranch’s stories. I have always loved reading different genres of books (can anyone say Mood Reader 😅). I like the variety, and that after a little bit of time away each genre feels fresh and new when you come back to it. I’ll read basically anything except for horror (because I don’t need those vibes in my life haha), but my main three are fantasy/sci-fi, mystery, and light romance. The books in this picture are some of my favourites from those genres! This also means that I’ve always struggled to find a book club because I don’t focus on just one type of book.
