Book 35. My son has to read this for school so I decided to check it out myself. It tells the story of William Tyndale and his quest to translate the Bible into English so that everyone could read it for themselves. With fictional characters added, this book shares the trials of Tyndale as he hides for 11 years from those who would ultimately try him for heresy and have him put to death. #book35 #readinggoals2024 #tyndale #tyndalebible #martyr #ididntchoosethebooklifeitchooseme

I loved this book! It was nice to read about a girl with goals and not just a girl whoโ€™s a fool for love and forgets everything else. I also really liked how the relationship between the main characters evolved and how the side characters fitted into that story. I thought it was a very nice writing style which made the book an easy read. If you like stories with a fierce FMC and a dash of enemies-to-lovers this is your next read! The story is about Anna Sherwood, obviously. Anna has worked her entire life for this. A summer internship at the company of her dreams. A very prestigious one too. When she finally manages to save herself a spot in this programme, sheโ€™s determined to ace this. Work hard, play later, as Anna would say. Then, on the day she meets her fellow interns, she decides that one night letting her guard down, wonโ€™t do her much wrong. Especially if that means it comes with the best kiss of her life. After that, sheโ€™ll just move on and start rocking her internship. But, unfortunately, thatโ€™s not how this story goes. Anna discovers that her mystery guy from that night, isnโ€™t such a mystery anymore the day after. He turns out to be the company CEOโ€™s son, Lloyd. A favorite person and total charmer in the company, thatโ€™s how he seems to be to Anna. They quickly go to the stage of enemies and try to avoid each other, or well, at least Anna does. But when Lloyd doesnโ€™t understand, he keeps trying to get in contact with Anna. As the summer, and thus Annaโ€™s internship, goes on, Lloyd seems to find a lot of possibilities to annoy Anna and she on her behalf doesnโ€™t back down to do just the same to him. But after a long night at the office, it turns out Lloyd and Anna are the only ones present and they start to grow closer. Anna begins to think there might just be more than meets the eye with Lloyd. But what exactly? I really loved this book and loved how it progressed. It was definitely a good romance book. I read this book as an ARC via @netgalley. Thanks to the author @authorbethreekles and Netgalley for providing it. #romance #CEO #internship #book35 #readingchallenge #ARC #netgalley #enemiestolovers #oppositesattract

#Book35 2023 Title: Jaya- An illustrated re telling of Mahabharat Author: Devdutt Patnaik Pub: Penguin Year: 2010 Genre: Fiction Pages: 349 Review: I had purchased this book long time back, but always contemplated how different would this be from the various other re tellings of Mahavharat I had already read. But I am so glad I read this in a few sittings over this extended G20 weekend. Fabulous because Devdutt (name of Arjun's Conch Shell) Patnaik has the innate ability to link the various stories of Mahabharat with the backstories to give us a complete picture of how karma works in our lives. I particularly loved his understanding of the distilled wisdom from Mahabharat esp as he concludes with the story of how the Kauravas end up in Swarg and the Pandavas, except Yudhistir end up in Naraka, because despite Lord Krishna preaching to them they are unable to overcome their hubris or pride, anger, gluttony and arrogance. Mastery over self is the only victory. Like truth, Karma is the only thing that prevails in the end, across your birth times, not just life times. What we don't understand perhaps of why certain things happen is that we are not privy to our backstories. The other interesting thing is what EH Carr also said that if we don't learn from history we end up repeating- Nala lost his empire to a game of dice, as did Yudhistir. My favourite sentence/ learning from the book is a reinforcement in my own believe to remain true to a loving, empathic approach even though people may take advantage, God will keep the score. The learning- "Dharma is about empathy and growth". When after the end of the Mahabharat and heavy loss of life on both Kaurav and Pandav camps, Yuddhistir is reluctant to take over as the King, Krishna advices him- Do not become the King because of your ambition or renounce it because of personal whim, but become the king to establish Dharma so that you may help the people achieve wisdom. The concept of the Boddhisatva who will come after Buddha as Maitreya is very similar to Krishna's advice, as unlike a Buddha who first gets enlightened, the Boddhisatva ensures the enlightment of all beings before he aspires for his own. Thank you

Book #35 of 2023: Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. . This one is really, really interesting, but not a quick read by any means. . It talks a lot about our relationship with nature, in both the physical and spiritual sense. It also examines the broader picture; for example, why certain plants naturally grow next to other specific plants, why plants produce fruit at specific times, why some plants survive better by being harvested, etc. etc. etc. . The author takes lessons from her Native American heritage and shares the important recurring theme that everything in nature is a gift, and we should treat the earth accordingly, always giving thanks for all that it provides us. . It is written by a mother of two daughters, so there is also some parental wisdom thrown in there. . I wouldnโ€™t put this one in my top 10, but I would still highly recommend it! Itโ€™s important. . #bookworm #booknerd #booklist #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #booksof2023 #book35 #braidingsweetgrass #robinwallkimmerer

Just started reading this last night. I love small town thrillers. There is something twisted and exciting how stories of each character are entwined and you only see the full picture or connect the dots at the end. This one is no different and has all the setting of a good small town mystery with its secrets and connections that run deeper and are so well hidden. To give a synopsis of the setting: Elise is a detective who has to take a foot back because of her illness. She starts investigating the disappearance of a local man. Elise uncovers a lot of secrets well kept behind the doors but Dee her house cleaner and the cleaner to most of the main characters knows things. Told from the perspectives of three main characters and a dual timeline of before and after, Local Gone Missing is good read so far. #localgonemissing #fionabarton #2023reads #book35 #currentlyreading #mystery #fiction #thriller #smalltown #suspense #crime #missing #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #bibliophile #booksflatlay #reading

Book 35 of the year was "Doctor Sleep" by Stephen King. I haven't seen the movie ever but I'm hoping to do that as we gear up for spooky season. I don't think anyone thought "The Shining" needed a sequel until it happened. I love this book. Danny Torrance is a drunk trying to mute his trauma and his psychic ability, until he finds sobriety and his calling as a hospice worker. Then he makes friends and fights a big bad. It s a redemption story and it's still spooky but maybe not as scary as Torrances snowed in with alcoholism and hotel ghosts. I listened to the audiobook and it looks as narrated by Will Patton. He was fabulous and I'm going to seek out other books he's narrated. Next up will be "Needful Things." #doctorsleep #stephenkingrules #constantreader #book35 #instabooks #audiobook #book35of2023

Done. Book # 35 of 2023. On vacation! Tower of Dawn By Sarah J Maas @therealsjmaas I was weary about reading a parallel book to Empire of Storms. Mainly, because I don't usually care for "spin-offs" but you NEED to read this because it is exactly that a parallel novel that reveals important and world changing information. Plus, I got more Chaol, and if you have seen any of my prior reviews of this series before EoS you know I was strongly team Chaol. Anyway, I absolutely loved this book. Got my dose of Chaol along with more action, mystery, a love triangle, other romance things and new creatures. Maas has done such a fantastic job at weaving this world into existence. She has built cultures, gods, and backstories that make you believe you are learning history about a world that actually might exist! (I know it's not real, duh, but Maas makes it believable.) I can't wait to read the next in the series though I'm not looking forward to a whopping 980 some pages. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‚ However, I am sure Maas makes it seem like less because one minute you're on page 1 and the next you are 200 pages in and still don't want to put the book down. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I had oh sh*t moments. 10/10 would recommend entire series thus far. *chef's kiss* ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“– #throneofglassseries #towerofdawn #sarahjmaas #chaolwestfall #ruks #yabooks #youngadultbooks #reading #readinglist #reading2023 #readit #read #readtoescape #readtogrow #readmorebooks #readforfun #books #bookstagram #book35 #recommend #booktok #recommendedreading #strongfemalecharacters #booklist #booknerd #bookworm #readinggoals #1010wouldrecommend #yafantasy #yafantasybooks

Small Mercies, by Dennis Lehane One of my favorite Boston authors! This story centers around a missing teen, a young black man who is found dead and the desegregation of school in south Boston in 1974. What lengths will a Boston mom go to, to find out where he daughter is and what happened to her the night a young black man was murdered? #book35 #whatdarleneisreading #ilovetoread #readabook #alwaysreading #currentlyreading #pelhamnhlibrary #libraryloan #readingwhilecommuting #cxherenow #cx #dennislehane #smallmercies

Book 35. This book is late for me because my kids are older, but I did my best to give them a healthier body perspective than I was given. I know I failed at times to say the right thing or to not say anything, and I still look for signs that I passed on my disordered eating. (Yes, I have had therapy for this.) โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“š This book is about the untangling of weight, health, and morality that has suffocated so many of us. If only everyone had the author's daughter's outlook: "Some tummies just get to be fat."

"Never mess with someone who has more spare time than you do" my grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry by Fredrik Backman At the beginning of this book I didn't think I was going to enjoy it. Switching from 1st person to 3rd person constantly, annoyed me... I got used to it after awhile though. The fairy tales got old in the beginning too but by the end I see where they were definitely needed and the story wouldn't have been the same without them. In the end I really enjoyed this book... It makes me wish I would have been closer to my Grandma...or at least had a relationship like Elsa had with hers. โญโญโญโญ #booknerd #book #read #reading #currentlyreading #bookclubidea #ilovebooks #ilovetoread #bookidea #bookstagram #readinginstagram #book35 #2023book35 #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #bookish #readabook #bookobsessed #bookaddict #bookjunkie #ismellpages #goodreadsbookchallenge #libraryshelf #whatareyoureading #libraryqueen #instabooks #bookstagram #reader #bookblogger

Two very different #audiobooks - one I DEVOURED, the other I was decidedly less impressed byโ€ฆ #AmericanDirt was our #BookClub book this month (though yet again Iโ€™ve not been able to make the meeting). An incredibly well researched and written book about a mother and son fleeing for their lives from Mexico into the US, and the challenges they face along the way. Itโ€™s impossible not to be horrified by the sheer brutality of the experiences so many have when fleeing danger at home. This will haunt me forever (and comes with many trigger warnings, particularly for s3xual violence). The London Seance Society was interesting enough, but frustrating in parts (yes, letโ€™s all stand around recapping the plot between ourselves having just realised a bomb may go off, totally sensible), and the recording wasnโ€™t great - some properly weird pronunciation that grated my brain, and the repetitive inflections of the male narrator really drove me around the bend - I rarely donโ€™t recommend, but Iโ€™d give this one a miss! #Reading #Bookstagram #Book #OnMyBookshelf #InMyBookcase #Book34 #Book34of2023 #Book35 #Book35of2023

#book35 โ€œSono stato calpestato, spintonato e preso a pugni. Riley Sagers novels are very similar in that Iโ€™ve never absolutely loved one, but they are usually entertaining and a pretty good read. Twenty years later a woman comes back to the house that her family fled from after a traumatic experience which her father writes about. The mother and daughter do not agree with the nonfiction book claiming the house was haunted and there were ghosts influencing and haunting. ๐Ÿ“š #bigsuzsbookshelf #bookstagram #book35

Okay, so basically any story that is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, has my attention. I have seen the posts about this book, written by @authormeganvandyke, months before it released. Luckily I had been able to get an ARC on this so I could read it early. I must say; this is something else! I liked how the White Rabbit was written in the story and how he was connected to Alice. I also really liked that Alice was this strong headed woman that ultimately chose for herself and not just what was expected from her. Besides that, I was intrigued by how the Red and White Court where displayed. I love how both of the courts have their very own character which canโ€™t really be described as just โ€˜goodโ€™ and โ€˜badโ€™, because they are so much more than just that. In the original story of Alice I have always really liked the Cheshire Cat and I just adore that Chesa is in this story! A wonderful adaptation to the OC ๐Ÿ˜ You never quite know what Chesa is up to, because she always manages to stay mysterious. I love that because she makes the story more interesting. I usually donโ€™t really read smutty stories and think it is not really something that upgrades this story, but there are some smutty parts in it. I donโ€™t think they really add value to the story though. The story, for me, would have been fine without it. I rated this as a 4 star read, because I am just a huge fan of Alice inspired retellings but also because this story was such a different view on Wonderland an on Alice and I really liked that. It lived up to my expectations. Also: did you see the cover?! It is so beautiful! โ™ฅ๏ธ Swipe for my favourite quotes! ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ‡ #thealicecurse #aliceinwonderlandretelling #book35 #readingchallenge #wonderland #fairytale #magicrealms #whiterabbit #cheshirecat #jabberwocky #redcourt #whitecourt #fantasy #magic
