FAVOURITE SERIES SPOTLIGHT: The Nevernight Chronicle by @misterkristoff edition 🗡️ Mid-2018, I was perusing my local Chapters (@indigo) when I saw this cover catch my attention: the blood-red wispy font, the dark figure with shadowy wings holding a bloodied dagger, contrasting with the stark white background. They say “don’t judge a book by its cover” but I certainly did. And am I ever glad that I did! The cover of Nevernight pulled me in, but the writing of Kristoff made me stay. Where The Poppy War showed me what fantasy could be (re: grimdark), Nevernight showed me what WRITING and storytelling could be. I gobbled up Nevernight, immediately bought Godsgrave, then impatiently waited for Darkdawn to publish in the latter half of 2019. Needless to say, I was hooked on Kristoff’s books from there on out. As with my previous Series Spotlight post, this is not a review of The Nevernight Chronicle. But it IS a recommendation. Highly recommend this trilogy! Especially because books tend to get less hype once the story is told and over, but these books always deserve to be relevant. La sua vita cambia radicalmente quando inizia a Frequentare la Chiesa Rossa, e non è una scuola come le altre, dovrà affrontare prove mortali e tante altre cose, ma Mia non è una studentessa come le altre. Le ombre la amano. Si nutrono della sua paura. I temi principali solo la vendetta, l'amicizia, la famiglia, il tradimento, la paura, la perdita e la rivincita. Questo libro non è il solito fantasy "per tutti" lo consiglio ad un pubblico più adulto perché affronta tematiche e un linguaggio molto forte ma rendendolo anche in modo ironico. Ho amato che ci fosse moltissima azione, combattimenti e tanti plot twist, il mistero, tutto...Anche se la scrittura è un po' confusa all'inizio, anche soprattuto per le varie note che sono state aggiunte dall'autore per raccontare più nel profondo i dettagli di alcuni avvenimenti, è stato un po' faticoso andare avanti perché va a togliere la scorrevolezza della scrittura e mi distraevano molto quindi ho dovuto interrompere la lettura varie volte. Apparte questo mi è piaciuto moltissimo!! poi la chiesa rossa mette i brividi e questa cosa mi piace, FINALMENTE una storia originale!È presente un pov (un punto di vista) ma ci sono dei piccoli punti di vista di alcuni personaggi.Questo libro fa capire che i traditori sono sempre dietro l'angolo a pugnalarti dei tuoi punti più deboli del tuo essere. • Darkdawn by @misterkristoff From land to sea to sky, Kristoff draws together the journey Mia goes through into a dramatic yet beautiful conclusion. I did not know what was going to happen and as each chapter ended, I found myself wanting to savour the final moments of this world, story and characters. The writing style used within this trilogy is something I haven’t experienced before and the narrator made me laugh and cry. This element of the storytelling was masterfully done and finding out more about it was real highlight for me. The conclusion to this trilogy did not disappoint and was the most fantastical of the books. Цикл "Хроники неночи" от Джея Кристоффа 🌃 Когда выбирала этот цикл, хотелось чего-то лёгкого, может какой нибудь ромфант, чтобы просто отдохнуть. Но, видимо, свернула я не туда...получила детально прописанный мир, шутки, офигенные сноски от автора! Я вспомнила трилогию Бартимеуса и стащила её, чтобы перечитать 😱 (там тоже были крутые сноски, только от самого Бартимеуса). Суть сей басни такова, что маленькая девочка Мия потеряла семью, и под свое крылышко её взял некий Меркурио, работающий в лавке со старыми вещицами. И после его подготовки, Мия Корвере попадает в школу ассасинов с большим желанием отомстить за родителей и брата. В школе её ждёт жестокая борьба, друзья и первая любовь. Ох, а в придачу, она управляет тенями, и её сопровождает некот по кличке, Мистер Добряк. Как я его обожаю 😍 Ооооочень понравилось как автора написал главы прошлого и настоящего 😱 прям каждый раз хочется продолжения. Feliz lunes 🌱 Echando la vista atrás, hace unas semanas me di cuenta de que nunca llegué a publicar reseña ni opinión de «Darkdawn» («Albaoscura» en castellano), la conclusión de la trilogía «Crónicas de la Nuncanoche» de Jay Kristoff. Creo que la saga no necesita presentación y hacer una reseña como tal tampoco tiene sentido, así que simplemente os diré que para mí este final SÍ ha estado a la altura 🙌🏻 La trilogía evoluciona muchísimo de un libro a otro. La trama se vuelve más y más compleja. Lo que empieza siendo una “simple” historia de venganza, más individual, acaba por alcanzar cotas trascendentales que involucra los destinos de múltiples personajes. Estos, por su parte, también crecen, mutan y desvelan capas de su personalidad que les dotan de una profundidad admirable, y no hablo solo de los protagonistas. En este libro muchos de los personajes secundarios terminan de convertirse en un elemento clave y aportan giros y escenas que brillan con luz propia ✨ Como final, «Darkdawn» me ha dado todo lo que esperaba y más. Ha cerrado todos los frentes y dado respuesta a todas las intrigas que se fueron abriendo en las anteriores entregas y lo ha hecho de una forma épica y muy emocionante. Quizá la conclusión de algún personaje me habría gustado que fuera diferente, pero entiendo las decisiones de Kristoff. Lo que sí que es innegable es que este libro te mantiene el corazón a mil por hora en tantas escenas… Calentito en unas, roto en pedazos en muchas otras 🥺💔 En fin, una trilogía que no me cansaré de recomendar y un autor que se ha convertido en uno de mis imprescindibles 🖤
👨 Darkdawn is the last of the Nevernight Chronicles trilogy by Jay Kristoff, and I'm giving it a SOLID 4.5/5! This is it, gentlefriends. The grand finale of it all, where Mia learns her true nature and all Hell breaks loose in STUNNING graphic detail. ... And I do mean graphic, y'all. Swearing and violence abound and NONE of it censored, hence the missing half star. Proceed with caution. That being said, this entire series was a roller coaster, start to finish, and I enjoyed every moment with every fiber of my being. The lore is deep, the emotion is brutal, and I'm not a man ashamed to admit the ending brought a tear to my eye. Extra points for the meta narrative woven into it all. No spoilers! If interested, start with Nevernight first, the Godsgrave. I found one of my #unicorns!! At an incredible price! I'm so ecstatic! I have the #Illumicrate set, but I was late to the gate on the #Goldsboro editions. I bought #godsgrave and #darkdawn at time of release, but had missed #nevernight. It's a signed and numbered limited first edition, so the resell prices were crazy. I remember when they were at least $400. With the state of our world lately, or country, prices for essentials have increased while other things have decreased. Luckily, I found a seller that just wanted the item moved. I'm selling some of my own books. It's hard to get what they are worth while being appreciative of lower prices for books I want to buy. Byla jsem nadšená za návrat tria Mia, Ashlinn, Tric - tohle trio mi od prvního dílu moc chybělo. Příběh byl jako vždy naprosto epický, ani jednou jsem se nenudila. Čím více se blížil konec, tím více jsem byla napjatější. Mimo specyficznego stylu autora szybko pokochalam i odnalazlam sie w tym swiecie. Glowna anty bohaterka Mia ma zadziorny charakter. Nie zalezy jej na slawie, ludziach czy uczuciach. Przez cale swoje zycie dazy do jednego celu- zemsty. Zemsty na glowach panstwa, ktorzy skazali jej rodzine na smierc. Jest zdeterminowana i gotowa poswiecic wszystko, by dopisc swego. Ma jedynego kompana. Kota z cieni. Ich relacja opiera sie na milosci jednak bardzo ale to bardzo czesto sie ze soba nie zgadzaja. Pierwszy tom był świetny. Nie moglas sie oderwac, jednak to drugi skradł moje serce w 100%. Był fenomenalny!!! Cala alcja, twisty sprawialy, ze nie moglam zlapac oddechu. Balam sie mrugac, by niczego nie przegapic. Trzeci tom byl wybitny, jednak spodziewalam sie innego zakończenia. Nie idealne jednak dalej bylo z klasaXD jezeli czaicie o co chodzi. Jednym slowem polecam kazdemu, kto nie boi/brzydzi sie czytać brutalnych ksiazek high fantasy. Bo uwierzcie. Series completed! This was my least favorite of the series. I gave it 4 stars, the second book 5 stars, and the first book 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed the whole story. I just didn't like parts of it such as all the traveling on the ship. It seemed to be longer than it needed to be. *spoilers below* Also I feel like I'm in the minority but I didn't enjoy Mia and Ashlinn together. Tric being a dead zombie boy but then goes back to being dead and Ashlinn comes back from the dead next. Idk just odd plot points. Our girl Mia has gone through a lot in this epic story and sometimes the thing I wanted most for her is just an uninterrupted, restful weekend. ✨A night with @misterkristoff at Conway Hall✨ It’s so hard to describe in words how much I enjoyed Jay Kristoff’s author event in London last night ❤️ It was such a special evening as it was my first author event I’ve been too and to share it with one of my bookstagram friends @acourtoffantasyandsmut was amazing! 💫 February Reading Wrap-Up 💫 It was a short month, but I got through a lot of the books on my TBR! 🌪️ Empire of Storms / Tower of Dawn - Sarah J. Maas I timed my Libby holds well enough to download both books onto my Kindle simultaneously (and then quickly turned on airplane mode!). I'm not sure I would have attempted this with physical books, but I am glad that I was able to make it work! Having done this, I can totally see why this method was highly recommended. Empire of Storms was my favorite of the two, but I really loved the Chaol storyline from Tower of Dawn. Nesryn, however...I could have lived without her perspective. 🦅Falcon Fever - Tim Gallagher I picked this up for $0.50 at a library booksale. I've been interested in falconry since reading My Side of the Mountain as a kid, and I thought this might be an interesting read. It was okay - the parts about the birds were good, but I could have lived without the memoir, history, and travelogue portions. ⚔️ Darkdawn - Jay Kristoff The Nevernight Chronicle might be my favorite series since the Greenbone Saga. I love all of the characters, the fast-paced plot, and the constant deceptions. Darkdawn was a great conclusion and I'm really going to miss being immersed in the dark and twisted world. I can easily see myself reaching for this as a reread. ✉️This is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone What a beautiful novella. I knew that this book is well-loved, but I went into knowing nothing else about it. I was expecting it to be so richly written. As a former lit major, my heart was singing when reading this. It's one of those books that I ended up reading very quickly because I loved it, but I kept forcing myself to slow down to really appreciate the writing. 🐺Wrath - John Gwynne I was thrilled to finish The Faithful and the Fallen series this month as well. This was such a satisfying conclusion to such a massive series. There were a few things retconned from Ruin that disappointed me, but otherwise I have no complaints. The book is thick, but the pacing is fast and I couldn't put it down. What was your favorite read this month?

⚔️ Empire of the Damned ⚔️ Last year I had the absolute honour of meeting @misterkristoff for his author signing event in Brisbane. It was an intimate and highly entertaining evening with his classic dry Aussie humour. I was lucky enough to get my @illumicrate edition of Empire of the Vampire personalised by Jay with a favourite song lyric that fits the theme of this badass vamp book perfectly. This year I wasn’t able to make the signing and early release of Empire of the Damned but thank ‘de Leon’ for @wayward.stacks who is a goddamn gem and gifted me a signed edition of the EotD!!! Yes I may have squealed like an unhinged banshee when I opened this package #sorrynotsorry EotV is a MASTERPIECE. If you’re looking for your sign to read an epically dark, bloodthirsty vampire fantasy with beautifully raw writing, high stakes battles, spicey times and ALL THE MORALLY GREY. This is it ⚔️🩸🖤 Honourable mention to Kristoff’s signature cursing which is filthy and fun and so creative at times I definitely snort laughed snickered. Dark Aussie humour is my favourite humour. Special mention must be given for the gorgeous cover by @kerbyrosanes and the incredible internal artwork by @monolimeart which are flawless! 🐈⬛ Caturday 🐈⬛ Other than parenting and cooking, I don't have any other plans today than this. Hoping to get this book finished today. February has been a tough reading month. We've all been poorly, the boys had chicken pox separately, then I came down with the flu or whatever that is that's going around, then the recovered boys got it, and now my partner has it and none of us are 100% still! 🫠💤 But Sunday, Monday, Tuesday at work then me and my partner BOTH have a week off work. A rarity!
