📖: THE GOOD PART by Sophie Cousens #bookreview Rating: 4/5 ⭐️ 📝 SYNOPSIS: Lucy is 26. All of her friends are moving up in life, but she’s still stuck at her low paying job, living in a crappy apartment with 3 other roommates, and having the worst luck with dating. When she comes across a wishing machine she makes a wish to skip to “the good part” of her life. The next morning she wakes up 16 years older, with a man she doesn’t recognize laying next to her, and 2 children calling her mommy. 💭 MY THOUGHTS: ▫️ The plot isn’t anything we haven’t seen before but oh, how I adore this book! Sophie Cousens knows how to write really endearing, well-developed characters! I definitely empathize with Lucy. Sometimes life just gets so overwhelming and everything seems to go wrong and I wish I could fast forward to the good part. ▫️Lucy’s journey was really inspiring, especially her (future) relationship with her husband and 7-year old son. I will say, though, that I’m not a big fan of kids in books who are written in a way where they sound too wise for their age to be believable. (Is this also a literary pet peeve of yours? Lol) ▫️This book is really charming and it’s way more than just a cute rom-com. Sometimes we get so focused on our jobs, our kids, and the mountain of chores that we forget to appreciate the life we’re living. If you’ve been here a while it will come as no surprise whatsoever that The Good Part was another 5⭐️ read from @sophie_cousens - because ALL of her books are. Sophie just knows exactly how to craft a story that will have me crying and laughing, sometimes in the same chapter. Lucy’s sick of being the in her 20s, she makes a wish to get to “the good part” of life where she’s settled and happy. Well be careful what you wish for, Lucy!! Kerry Gilbert was the narrator and she was fabulous. Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens I love having my own personal library at home but I also love browsing the shelves at our local library! This is one I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I’m not sure why I never bought it. I think it’s because the back cover synopsis made it seem predictable. It wasn’t at all! Laura is a sucker for a good love story. Her parents met in such an unusual and romantic fashion that she only dreams of a similar story for herself. On a trip to discover more about her parents story, Laura mistakenly grabs the wrong suitcase. She falls in love with the owner, based solely on the contents in his bag. She is sure this is her happily ever after. She commissions a cab driver to ferry her all over the island for her research and to help find the owner of the mixed up suitcase. As her soulmate proves difficult to find and she learns more about her own background, she begins to question everything she knows. Laura meets family members she never knew existed and discovers secrets about her family that tarnish the picture perfect story she grew up believing. This was sweet, light hearted and was an easy read. I like to be able to open a book while I’m waiting at pick up or watching ford play at chick fil an and this lent itself perfectly for that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was originally published in the UK. The “American” version of the book has a typo at the end. I reread the page several times to make sure I wasn’t missing some thing then I researched a bit on Google and found out that the author knows all about it because that’s all she ever hears about this book. Poor girl. It has the elements of what I always crave for in a book: family dynamics, friendship, romance, magical realism. What I loved most about this book is that it was an easy read. I didn’t get bored all throughout the narrative. The characters are likable, though at some point I got to react negatively to Lucy’s decision and perspective with what’s happening to her at the moment so I was kinda invested with her which is good, I think. The plot might not be unique but the execution of the storytelling made this an enjoyable ride for me. It was heartwarming. But there were some heartbreaking incidents on the latter part of the story. I felt Lucy’s character. Maybe because I’m a mom of two. The story resonates with me. I really love it. Lately….♟️🗝️🖤📚✍🏻 I started the chestnut springs series a few days ago and absolutely devoured 260 pages within two days…however, my summer classes and internship prep have also started which prevented me from reading for a few days but I’m hoping to have my flawless review up soon as I’m enjoying it so much so far!! Even in my mid-30s, there are times when I wish I could fast-forward to the good parts of life. Lucy Young, a 26-year-old living in London, is just trying to make ends meet in a flat with water damage. She makes a wish to fast-forward to the Good Part of her life, and suddenly finds herself 16 years into the future, with a husband and two children. ✨ The Good Part by Sophie Cousins ✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fun fact about me is that I love a good, cathartic cry. This book gave me that, big time. I have been a fan of Sophie's writing for a few years now, so I was extremely excited when I was chosen to read an ARC of this book (last year before I started slug wife reads). It did not disappoint. I loved Lucy as a bumbling, awkward 26-year-old who couldn't seem to get it right, and I loved her even more as she navigated waking up at 42 with a loving family and no memory of the past 16 years. Her inner dialogue was funny and relatable (in as much as it can be given the time travel/jump/glitch storyline) and I loved Sam and Felix - I felt like they were really dynamic as side characters. I think I read this book at the perfect time (having just turned 28 and in a new job) and the themes of identity and self-worth tied into memory struck a chord with me. When Lucy mid-panic about having no memory and her big pitch coming up asks, "Do you think memories make us who we are, Michael?" I felt my breath catch in my throat. I found myself debating (like Lucy) whether or not I actually wanted her to return to being 26 or to stay in her life and enjoy having her memories return to her. I think she chose correctly. Having the book end the way it did made me sigh and cry at how beautiful life can be and how it is something to be cherished. On paper, these total opposites don’t always make sense, but the heart wants what the heart wants. However, when a man from Audrey’s past shows up the night before her wedding, making her question what might have been, she has to decide: Is love a game of chance, or is there one soul mate she is truly meant to be with? I’ve loved so many of Sophie Cousens’ books, and Before I Do was no exception. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the love triangle aspect or the time jumps, but Sophie did a masterful job with both. The time jumps allowed for a beautiful character arc for Audrey, and I really appreciated how carefully Josh and Audrey’s relationship evolved, in comparison to the fleeting, fantastical meeting between Audrey and Fred. I also really appreciated how Cousens examined Audrey’s complicated views of love and relationships, stretching back to her childhood and looked at through the lens of her father’s and mother’s relationships. The heaviness and guilt Audrey carried with her broke my heart, and made it very hard to not be angry at her mother, Vivian. (Continued in comments 💍)

(❀❛ ֊ ❛„)♡₊ book review: Before I Do I have to start with: This book is the best Sophie Cousens book I’ve ever read (I only read 3 including this. Medyo oa ako). Before I Do has so much character depth, build up, a whole lot more complicated and higher stakes than the first two books I’ve read from her and I AM PLEASED. After reading heart quenching books last month, I picked this up thinking it’s going to be just cute. But wow the frustration this book brought me was nothing short. And I didn’t even know every chapter was back and forth between time frames. That made me double take a few times which timeline I was on at the moment. Nevertheless the premise sold it for me and the first chapter cemented my book slump salvation. Imagine getting ready to be married and then your “the one that got away” reappeared the njght before your wedding? Pair that with a couple of disastrous events making you think they are bad omens and that maybe you should not be wed? Ridiculous. But Audrey our main girl almost believed this is fate telling her not to get married to Bad Jeans Josh. All throughout I was team Bad Jeans Josh. From the moment it was revealed that she only spent a day with Fred, the one that got away, six years ago I knew that she shouldn’t be doubting her impeding marriage. However, the plot dictates she should be thinking about her what ifs. (Spoiler) I was glad that at the end Fred remained the what if and Josh is the chosen what is. This makes a lot more sense. We choose who we spend our lives with and to make the love last we have to learn to be a team. Audrey and Josh are a good and balanced team, Audrey just had to figure it out late. The Good Part ⏰ 5/5 ⭐️ At 26, Lucy’s life is not what she wants it to be. After a particularly rough day, she makes a wish that she could just skip to the good part of her life… and wakes up to find her wish granted. ⏰ I originally wasn’t going to read this book because I’m not a huge fan of time-jump stories and never have been. However, @alltheroseyreads posted about how much she loves this book, so I took a chance. It took me a bit to get into the story because of the whole not-liking-time-jump-stories thing, but man, I’m glad I kept reading. This book is funny, poignant, sweet, and thought-provoking. This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens- Sophie Cousens’ novels are just so freaking cutesy and light, and I just ate this one up!full of likable characters and a fun plot, this is a really great palate cleanser and easy read 😊✨ . . The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica- trying to read through the backlog of Mary Kubica - this one was fun!!! I never saw the twist coming. while it’s not the most realistic, it sure made an interesting thriller.

Last ✨ Current ✨ Next ✨ Funny Story was my favorite April read - I LOVE Emily Henry and her newest did not disappoint at all. It was laugh-out-loud funny in parts, heartfelt in others. I totally loved it. Currently working through The Good Part! I hadn’t read Sophie Cousens before but the writing has been great - really witty. Definitely struggling to separate this plot from “13 Going On 30” though, so it hasn’t been a “can’t put down” type of read for me. Next is The Idea of You in anticipation of the movie! I read The Good Part by Sophie Cousens in March, and it surprised me with how good it was. Lucy wishes to skip to the good part and ends up 16 years in the future with a husband and 2 children she doesn’t know. It’s sweet and funny and heartbreaking story while Lucy tries to figure out her new life and also if she wants to stay there. This book gave me such a warm feeling while I also cried at parts too. Happy Monday 🫶🏻 I just had THE best weekend with my sister while she was in town visiting me and I still can’t get over how fun it was. We spent all day Saturday wandering around Milwaukee stopping at shops, getting brunch, checking out some rooftops, and trying green juices and barista-themed cocktails. Oh, and checking out @boswellbookco for Independent Bookstore Day of course 📚 I would highly recommend stopping there if you’re ever in the area, they have a really great selection of books! I ended up leaving there with a copy of THE GOOD PART by @sophie_cousens and THE REAPPEARANCE OF RACHEL PRICE by @hojay92 which were both books that I had the opportunity to read advanced audio copies of (loved them) and needed them in print for shelf trophies! 🏆 I think everyone deserves to have a day like I had on Saturday 🫶🏻 Did you go to a bookstore for Independent Bookstore Day? 📚

Have you ever read a @sophie_cousens book? “It’s all the good part.” Lucy is 26 and tired of the struggles in her life, her crappy house share, her underappreciated job, her disastrous dating life, etc. She just wants to know when things will turn around and get better. So when she finds herself in front of a wishing machine, after a truly bad night out, she wishes she could skip ahead to that ‘Good Part’, when everything is sorted in her life. When she wakes up the next morning, next to a man she doesn’t know, in a bedroom she has never seen, and with kids in the next room, she is super confused about what is going on. But soon she comes to realize it appears that her wish has come true, and she has skipped 16 years ahead. Only she doesn’t remember anything before the jump and she slowly starts to see that while some things are fine, not everything is as ‘good’ as she had wished. Especially since she can’t remember the past 16 years, making her feel like she missed out on living those years. I think we all can connect with Lucy in her wanting things to be better sometimes or wondering when things will work out. I loved the strong friendships in her life and fell in love with all the people around her. Especially Felix❤️ He and his alien theory reminded me so much of The Family Man and getting back to the mothership. This book definitely had some heavy moments in it that had me tearing up, like the end when Lucy must make her decision to stay or go back. I loved how this book really makes you think about appreciating all the parts of life—both the journey and the destination and everything in between…it is all important and full of good stuff. What a find!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Favourite quote of the entire book. If you're a stay at home mama, IYKYK 🤣 💭"Real mummy finds it hard too. Sometimes she goes outside and shouts at the vegetables when she doesn't want to shout at us." I reread that line probably 10x before continuing to read as it resonated so much with me 🤣 If you LOVE 90s/00s chick flick / Rom Coms then this is right up your alley. Not your typical Contemporary Romance. I loved all the characters and did not expect the ending that Cousens chose as I really wanted the opposite and was desperate for it. Als sie am Gepäckband in Jersey aus Versehen den falschen Koffer erwischt, begibt sie sich auf die Suche nach ihrem Koffermann. Hierbei handelt sich um eine Art von RomCom, denn einerseits gab es einige witzigen Momente und zum anderen ist es eigentlich eine schöne Wohlfühlgeschichte, die ich gerne gelesen habe. Lauras Charakterentwicklung ist ganz gut gelungen, denn am Anfang hat sie auch eine Identitätskrise, da sie nicht genau weiß was sie vom Leben will und es noch ungeklärte Dinge über ihre Familiegeschichte gibt. Jedoch ging mir diese Entwicklung etwas zu schnell in den wenigen Tagen, die sie auf Jersey verbringt. Das Setting ist schön gestaltet, man kann sich den Ort bildlich vorstellen, was mir persönlich gut gefallen hat. Obwohl mir die Geschichte ganz gut gefallen hat, konnte diese mich nicht ganz überzeugen und mich auch nicht abholen. Woran es gelegen hat, kann ich nicht wirklich ausmachen. To make matters worse her wish sent her forward sixteen years where she finds she is married to this man, is the mother to two child and has a very successful career in the TV production industry .. but lack any knowledge of what happened during those sixteen years. Sophie Cousens takes Lucy on a journey of magical realism, with a little bit of romance and mixes it with moments of inspiration and realization that just maybe that youthful time are part of the good parts of your life. They were so many laugh-out-loud moments and precious times between Sam and Lucy but the relationship between Lucy and seven-year-old Felix stole my heart. did a little april book shopping and came home with the good part by @sophie_cousens this was exactly what i needed while i’m trying to break this reading slump. it was a cozy time travelly little story with moments where i laughed out loud. lucy is a 26 year old living in london where she’s treated as a lowly assistant at her job, lives with a bunch of flatmates where her room is leaking through the ceiling, her bed is always wet, and she keeps ending up with total duds for dates. she’s got $35 to her name in between paycheques and nothing is going right for her. late one night after a horrible pseudo date, she tucks into a corner store to get out of the rain where she finds a wishing machine. she makes a wish to skip to “the good part” of her life where she is past the hardships of the 20s. the machine spits out a 💫your wish is granted💫 coin that she pockets and heads home. the next morning she wakes up with a man she soon learns is her husband. she’s 42, married to a hottie, with a beautiful home and two adorable children. despite being impressed with where she is professionally, having a dreamboat for a husband, and two wonderful children, lucy wants to go back in time when she realizes she doesn’t want to miss her 20s and 30s and everything that comes with this years. the story is lucy trying to learn how to live the life she now leads as a 42 year old, while also trying to get back in time. super cute cozy read with friendship, loss, family and the star of the show: lucy’s son felix! #booksbooksbooks #sophiecousens #thegoodpart #timetravelbooks #magicalrealism #reading #bookstagram

And I know I am so lucky to be here, and that every breath I take is the good part.” 💛💛💛💛 . I love a Sophie Cousens book, and this one might be my favorite of them all! A mix of the best time warp movies from the 90s and early 2000s (13 Going on 30 and The Family Man come to mind), this story plucks our heroine out of the struggles of her mid-twenties and plops her into “the good part” of her life in her early forties. This was so fun, so relatable, and so sweet. I loved the love story and the self-love story! Lucy learned so much about herself and how the journey of life shapes us. I would highly recommend this one.
