WHAT ARE YOUR CHILDHOOD FAVORITES? 1. The Sword in the Stars by @wayne_batson 2. The Wormling Series by Jerry B. Jenkins & Chris Fabry 3. The Kingdom Series by @authorchuckblack 4. The Knights of Arrethtrae by Chuck Black As a young teen I ADORED medieval fantasy. And these books/series did not disappoint. I loved the action (who doesn't like epic sword fights?), the worlds, fantastical creatures, and deeper themes and questions these stories offered younger me. Sword in the Stars is one of my favorite redemption stories to date, I sped through the Wormling Series, and spent hours upon hours listening (and re-listening) to the audio books of the Kingdom Series and the Knights of Arrethtrae. Admittedly, Sword in the Stars and the Kingdom Series will always have a special place in my heart. ☺️ How about you? What are you childhood favorites? 📚

✨December Reading Wrap-Up ✨ Happy New Year, Everyone! I was able to read 9 books in December, most of them holiday related. Reading all the holiday related books was on my Christmas break bucket list, and I succeeded! I really pushed myself this month to read even if I didn’t have the motivation, because I knew I’d be happy I did once I was done. I read some great books! My favorite of the month was definitely The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber, the second book in the Once Upon a Broken Heart series. This story really grabs my attention, and I cannot wait for the third to be released later this year!! I have lots of reading plans for the coming year, and I can’t wait to find even more new favorites! Dieses schmale Bändchen habe ich gestern Abend fertiggelesen. Es ist kein fröhlicher Weihnachtsroman, sondern geht viel tiefer. Die Ehe von Marleen und Jacob ist am Ende und sie sind unterwegs, die Scheidungspapiere zu unterzeichnen. Dabei kommt es zu einem Unfall.. Obwohl ich wusste, was mich ungefähr erwarten würde, war ich vom Verlauf der Geschichte doch etwas überrascht. Weihnachtliche Gefühle kamen dabei bei mir nicht auf, obwohl die Geschichte an Heiligabend spielt. Allerdings gibt sie so manchen Gedankenanstoss. Ahhh, the day has finally arrived!! This #bookmark has patiently been waiting for its time in the spotlight for a few weeks now, and today is the big day! I poked and prodded at these beads for probably 2 hours until I got them just right. I wanted the connection to the words for Almost Heaven to match as best as they possibly could. I mean - it's not everyday you see a Glidden paint factory mentioned which just gives license to a whole host of colors and creativity! There is a wide variety of shapes, textures, and styles with all these beads, and I especially love the two "mirror-like" beads on each end. They catch the light in the prettiest way. ✨️ Those beads are courtesy of @jessejamesbeads and found at Walmart - believe it or not! For now, there is only one of these in stock, and only a *slight* possibility of there being one more in the future. You'll find it available in my website store only. Up for review today is June Bug by Chris Fabry. June Bug has always put her full trust in her dad - until she sees her face on a missing child’s poster in a Walmart where they’ve parked to wait for an automotive part for their RV. This was a great story of how June finds her true identity. It captures the many positive and negative realities of RV life which has become a popular lifestyle choice for many people recently. The many characters June and her dad John encounter are vast and varied and it was really neat seeing the broad range of society represented that the father-daughter duo encountered on their travels. God always provided someone to help them and those people ranged from strangers who loved them like family, to dirt bag, greedy losers who were more interested in what they would get in return for helping. But God always made sure they got what they needed despite some unsavoury characters. With aspects of the prodigal son story, the ironies between John and June’s mom, and seeing June’s full story unfold as John’s character developed through the story was compelling and fulfilling in the end. I give this story 4 stars, and a word of caution. If you scroll to the 2nd pic you’ll find closeup of a little cover blurb. I don’t make this a habit, but for this book this blurb is actually the only reason I signed this book out. Now, I’m not sure about you, but Les Mis sets a very high bar for me. I had high expectations for this book based on that little blurb, and because I’m familiar with Chris Fabry I was sure the high expectation would be met. I’m not happy to say I was wrong. This would’ve been a five story if I didn’t had the expectations of Les Mis shadowing every page. I saw a few similarities and a couple of those similarities felt like I had to stretch the parallels between the stories and force it to fit. I’m not sure who at Publishers Weekly though Les Mis was a good selling feature for June Bug because after reading the book I felt disappointed because of it. This was a great story - worth reading definitely! But I’d caution you to read it without the misleading idea that this a modern retelling of the amazing Les Mis.

#dsmaa_parenting Book review: The 5 love languages of children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell. If anyone asks me about 'The one book' that every parent should read then I recommend this. It's not a parenting book, it's a book that tells you 'the secret of loving your child effectively' in true sense and what unconditional love looks like. I didn't know the 5 love languages earlier and this concept in itself is an eye opener. It cleared so many of my doubts about any relationship. It's a short book which dives into individual love languages in detail, how to discover your child's primary love language and how anger and love can thrive together. It also has dedicated chapters for single parent situation and marriage. This was one of my first audible reads and Chris Fabry's narration of the book is indeed engaging and interesting.
