EATING HEALTHILY ON-THE-GO A topic I’ve been wanting to discuss for a while, and what better time than now - right before I go away for 3 weeks (& will be certainly eating a lot of food on-the-go)! Eating healthily on-the-go, aka picking food up from places, usually for convenience, can be tough. Often at these times, we’re hungry, time restrained and just need something to ‘fill a hole’, however the options can often be very limited😥 It’s much easier, naturally, to grab something like a burger, chips, or fried chicken - cheap , tasty & readily available🍗 Of course, from time to time, these foods are okay and if you enjoy them they should have a place in your diet in moderation. But unfortunately, relying on them regularly when eating on-the-go isn’t always healthy☹️ So… how do you choose healthier on-the-go options?! Here’s my top 5 tips: - Choose cafes/restaurants etc that offer meals/snacks you know are freshly prepared with minimal ingredients🥗 - Opt for dryer, less saucy meals/snacks (there are lots of hidden sugars and ingredients in sauces!)🍞 - Be lenient on what you eat & when (eg. I often eat breakfast foods like these overnight oats, for a snack or lunch if it’s a healthier option!)🥣 - Check the menu ahead of time (this means you can avoid making impulse decisions around food that is perhaps not the food you wanted!)🗒️ - Always carry something healthy in your bag (so that in addition to your shop bought sandwich, you have a piece of fruit on the side too for extra nutrients!)🍌 Do you struggle with eating healthily on-the-go? It's been a busy Sunday! I'm currently fundraising for #versusarthritis so this morning, I was up and out the door before 9am to go for a walk around a country park. Glorious weather for October in the UK! Steps accumulated, we stopped and had breakfast in the café in the grounds and I made sure to count the calories consumed. Then it was back to do the clothes washing, put together a new vacuum and food prep. Today's food prep includes: 5x Bounty Overnight Oats 4x Herby Pork Burgers 12x Sage and Onion Stuffing Balls Roasted Sweet Potato and Chick Peas Washed and prepared: Carrots Potatoes Green Beans Brussels Grapes Watermelon Blueberries Figs Tomatoes White Pumpkin Separated/Divided and froze: Salmon Fillets Tomato Puree Convenience items this week: Stir Fry Chicken Kit Prepared Salad Kit Items I'll prep when needed: Mushrooms Thursday I am out for dinner so will peruse the menu before I go (if we decide where we're going instead of just strolling around the shopping centre and making a last minute decision), or I'll make a sensible decision while there as opposed to overindulging. The sauces and syrups tinned fruit and veg is, so buy these in their natural juice or water. If you're really fussy you can rinse them before cooking. Batch cooking saves time and money. Pop the spare into the freezer for another day I chop and freeze all my fresh fruit and veg rather than waste it. The fruit gets turned into smoothies. 🌿Are you having a Bank Holiday BBQ this weekend? This delicious salad makes an excellent side dish. British tomatoes are at the best right now, and even better if you've managed to grow some yourself this year! 🌿Garden Tomato Salad Serves 4 Ingredients: 1.25-1.5 kg ripe tomatoes in as many colours, shapes, sizes and flavours as you can find 50g mixed soft herbs - I used chives, thyme, parsley and mint 5-6 shallots, diced as finely as you can For the dressing 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 3 tbsp white wine vinegar Seasoning 🌿Method: - Slice the large-to-medium tomatoes and halve the smallest. Pick the leaves from the herbs and roughly chop, then mix the herbs with the shallots. - Choose a large platter and start layering up the tomatoes, mixing colours and sizes. As you finish each layer, scatter with some of the herb-shallot mix and some ground black pepper. Keep layering until everything is used up. -Cover and chill for a few hours. Work Day 🍽️ 4/5 lunches last week basically consisted of cookies and cakes. I did no exercise. I just wasn’t in it at all and didn’t really care. This week my focus is food. Food Prep is Key 🔑 It’s been a busy weekend and heavy with the food but still just about managed to stay within my cals… just! One thing I always get done on a Sunday is prep a box of fruit for snacking at work. This will last me 3-4 days. I always hope I’m too busy to think about food and not snack but I’ve got this in the fridge in case 👌🏼 Had such a good week last week and it showed in my check-in today but a heavier weekend with food and gallstone issues the last three days means I’m ready to get my focus back 🙌🏼

Roast pork salad 🥗 Simply roasted a joint of pork in a deep baking tray. Filled the tray with around 250ml of water & covered the pork with tin foil. Once cooked, I separated the crackling. Whilst the meat was covered in the foil to keep the heat, I put the crackling under the grill to get that amazing colour & crunch! 😮‍💨 Served with a humongous salad & some stuffing! DELISH 👌🏼

My dinner. This entire week, I have had carbs for every meal. However, I have eaten complex carbs such as oatmeal, sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, or brown rice. Complex carbs have a low glycaemic index so will not raise my blood sugar quickly. I loved all the meals today. When I eat stew, I eat nutritious stuff like meat and vegetables, but don't eat the soup part except maybe 2 spoons because it is high in sodium. I also don't like deep fried food anymore. I eat only the fillings and not the fried part if I have to eat it. I also did not eat any of the sauces. Even if someone has an aesthetically beautiful body, it does not mean s/he is necessarily healthy because what they put in their body determines their health. An adverse side effect of some medication is weight gain. This weight gain occurs when the…⁣ ⁣ 1. Medication changes our metabolic rate (how well our bodies burns calories). If it lowers our BMR and we eat the same amount of food we will gain weight⁣ 2. Medication stimulates our appetite, causing us to eat more.⁣ 3. Medications cause us to retain water.⁣ 4. Medications effect where our body’s stores fat. Even if we weigh the same the relocation of where our bodies store fat (in the abdomen and hips) can give the sensation of weight gain.⁣ ⁣ The quickest way to avoid these changes is to get off of the mediation as quickly as possible (WITH YOUR DOCTORS APPROVAL). Long term use of any sort of medication changes are bodies internal environment and can effect how it naturally responds. If this is not an option here are some things we can do to minimize weight gain.⁣ ⁣ 1. Ask our doctor for alternative medications that might alleviate the problem without causes the unwanted side effects. ⁣ 2. Be attentive to our diet.
