📖 BOOK REVIEW The Most Fun We Ever Had By: Claire Lombardo 🏠The Sorenson family is just like the rest of the world; they are beautifully flawed. The six of them, two parents and four daughters, have happiness and also secrets that surface throughout the years. They are all so diverse however, alike in that they truly love each other and want good things for the family. They just don’t always make decisions that support this. 🏠This story is told by multiple POVs with a timeline spanning from the 1970’s through present time. It is easy enough to follow even though there are many characters. Let me say that I was in the This is Us TV show mode through most of it. This is a good thing as it is addicting and had me wanting more. Just like This is Us, some characters are downright irritating but we love them, or want to love them, so bad! 🏠Apparently, this story has been optioned for a series on HBO. I think it will be very successful. The story is veeeery loooong so a series rather than a 2 hour movie is a good idea. I appreciate the recommendation by Reese’s Book Club or I may not have picked it up as my TBR is a million miles long. I am happy to have experienced the Sorenson family. This is truly a great book. QOTD: Do you make sure you read the book before you watch a series or movie based on it? AOTD: I don’t always read the book first but I try to. #themostfunweeverhad #reesesbookclub #fiction #clairelombardo #currentread #booksofig #bookstagram #bookreview #hbo #bookreview #2019books #booktoseries

Had to share this “finish it in one day bingeread”! It was a great audio while working. I loved the action/thrill of it, and I felt the story was unique, so I was definitely hooked! Definitely glad I grabbed this debut novel! 👍🏻 (ps, while I did only rate it a 3.5⭐️, it kept me entertained all day, and I am definitely reccommending it!) 📚BOOK REVIEW!📚 . “If it is true for you, it is true for someone else, and you are no longer alone.” . This was good. I wasn't blown away, but it was good. I really liked that it never felt too heavy-handed. It dipped its toe occasionally, but never dove in, and instead kept its focus on using its characters and their story to make its point. The prose was often distracting and even began to feel a little too pleased with itself after a while, though. Because of that, large chunks of the narrative felt sluggish. And I became unsure about the structure, but then the ending paid off and the choices made sense. . 6.5/10 . . . . #bookreview #colsonwhitehead #thenickelboys #pulitzerprizewinner #bookreviews #historicalfiction #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #booknerd #2019books #literaryfiction #ebooks #bookstagrammer

🎶BOOK REVIEW!🎶 . “It’s like some of us are chasing after our nightmares the way other people chase dreams.” . An oral history about a fictional rock band heavily influenced by Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac and instilled with overwhelming nostalgia for 'the good old days' that, let's face it, weren't necessarily all that 'good' to begin with. Talk about my jam. . Reid understands the power and importance of memory and the therapeutic nature of music, and through this understanding she builds a narrative that fuses the two in a way that forces the reader into the world of these characters. Sadly, some of these characters are just too loathsome. Karen is absolutely awful and Eddie is even worse, and at times, it feels like we're hearing from them far, far too often. That's not to say the rest of the characters are necessarily likable. Daisy and Billy especially are full of personality flaws, and if handled even slightly less delicately, could've made this a complete mess. But their narcissistic personalities and extreme struggles with addiction are fully fleshed out and work to build them up into fully formed characters. Then there's Graham, who I found myself often relating to more than anyone else, and Warren, who was never anything less than a delight to spend time with. . I mostly loved the oral history style of narrative, but occasionally it felt forced and awkward. Once it reaches the final act, however, the decision to tell this story in this fashion became clear and drove home the emotional weight of it all beautifully. . 8/10 . . . . #bookreview #daisyjonesandthesix #historicalfiction #taylorjenkinsreid #bookreviews #2019books #musicbooks #bookblogger #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #oralhistory #stevienicks #fleetwoodmac #daisyjones #bookcovers #bookquotes

A story of a group of unlikely characters setting out to free the Estonian president in the 1940s when the country had been occupied by Soviets and the president had been exiled in psychiatric institutions in Russia. It is all fanciful, of course, and darkly in jest as we know today the president remained forcibly institutionalised for the rest of his life, dying in captivity in Russia in 1956 at age 81. Book: The Antidote Author: Shelley Sackier Year: 2019 Synopsis: In the world of healers, there is no room for magic. Fee knows this, just as certainly as she knows that her magic must be kept secret. But the crown prince Xavi, Fee’s best friend and only source of comfort, is sick. So sick, that Fee can barely contain the magic lying dormant inside her. She could use it, just a little, to heal him. But magic comes at a deadly cost—and attracts those who would seek to snuff it out forever. A wisp of a spell later, Fee finds herself caught in a whirl of secret motivations and dark pasts, where no one is who—or what—they appear to be. And saving her best friend means delving deeper into the tempting and treacherous world whose call she’s long resisted—uncovering a secret that will change everything. —- Ratings Setting:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Characters:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Story:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Creativity: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Comment: This book was set in a creative and enchanting world which is something that always draws me in a novel. The kingdoms themselves could have been more elaborate which is why it didn’t get the five stars for me. Loved the story between Xavi, Rye and Fee from their childhood onwards. I found it different in a good way that the story was centered on a genuine platonic friendship between a male and female character rather than a romance. I do love a good romance and there is some of that in here as well but it wasn’t the core of the story. The plot also had some twists which was a nice surprise. Overall, it was a fun, creative, magical read and I liked it! — #lovebooks #yafantasy #bookswithmagic #yaromance #fantasybooks #adventurebooks #lightreads #bookstagram #bookreview #booknerd #2019books #lovereading #bibliophile #igreads #bookpics #bookblog #readersofig #reader #prettybooks

A Hat for Mr Mountain 🖊️ 🎨 Soojin Kwak 👒 Nara makes hats for everyone - creatures of all shapes and sizes visit her studio in search of the perfect hat. They are greeted with kindness and Nara uses her creative skills to fulfil their needs. ✉️ One day a giant letter arrives - Mr Mountain is hopeful that he too can have a hat made like all the happy animals he has seen & Nara is only too happy to oblige. 🪵 🌱 🧶 The big task presents her with many hurdles but she perseveres with the help (and hindering) of the animals. ⭐️ This is a great tale that gently deals with persevering, creative solutions & frustration. ☁️ 🪡 Self-doubt creeps in for Nara and she closes her studio doors- but showing that kindness is infectious the animals pull together to right their wrongs. They find an unorthodox but perfect material for Mr.Mountain’s hat giving the story a beautiful conclusion. 🎩 The prize winning illustrator easily transports you to her origins of South Korea with these detailed, quirky illustrations in a classically calm colour palette. If I were to use this in a classroom I could see it teaching the importance of collaboration, listening to each others ideas, righting wrongs and including everyone. 🧢 I found this in the library when we popped in this afternoon but have instantly added it to my book stash and ordered myself a copy 🤩 ✔️. Book review: Leonard and Hungry Paul by Ronan Hession ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫. “We live in an age of cacophony. Everyone talking and thinking out loud, with no space or oxygen left for quiet statements and silence”. Leonard and Hungry Paul are friends in their thirties who share a mutual interest in playing board games. After the death of his mother, Leonard starts to feel concerned that the older he gets, the smaller his world. Is he becoming invisible? He is amazed by the universe and wants to meet someone to share it with, to gain some recognition for his hard work, to feel less alone. But for Hungry Paul the “bigness of life was always the problem”. He is the embodiment of living for the moment and has spent decades at home with his parents, rarely deviating from his safe routine or thinking of the future. Then there is Grace, Hungry Paul’s sister, the dutiful daughter, who is completely absorbed in planning her wedding to Andrew. All of the characters are at a turning point in their lives and we follow them as they make some of life’s bigger decisions. With no mention of time or place, the book is focused on the characters - ordinary people having familiar conversations and going about their everyday lives. It celebrates the mundane and awkward moments and the smallest acts of kindness and love. It has a lot of humour, is simply written and is a wonderful study of family and friendship. I think it is very likely you will see yourself reflected in this book and it will make you think about what it is to have the freedom to be who you are. I talked about this one with my book club last night. One person gave it 3.5* and the rest of us gave it 4.5*, making it one of our highest ratings ever. You could say we loved it 🤩. #secondhandbooks #bookreview #leonardandhungrypaul #ronanhession #bookworm #bookclubbook #readingrecommendations #2019books #irishbooks.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January was a buzzy book in 2019. BOTM sold out the first month it was a pick. “January Scaller lives in a sprawling mansion as the ward of Mr. Locke. She feels isolated until she finds a book. A book that speaks of secret doors and other worlds and danger. January discovers a truth about herself but some want to keep it hidden…” This is a book that so many people have raved about. People that love it really love it. Others are ambivalent. I think to enjoy this book you have to be open to reading Magical Realism and Fantasy. There’s a slow start but it gets better as the story picks up. There are some interesting characters and situations here. Nice debut from Harrow. Hi book lovers! It has been a long hiatus for us. K and I have been busy with finals, winter plans and thankfully lots of reading. So, let’s pick up strong with one of my favourite books of all time, “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.” This book was so incredible. The characters, the pacing, the setting and the plot all came together so seamlessly to create an extremely engaging and memorable read. The use of a podcast to move forward the story gave me “Serial” vibes and I thought it was appropriately modern without getting too detached. I found the main character, Pip, to be very relatable, especially as a fellow student. She is sharp, smart and just persistent (and infuriating) enough to unravel the case brilliantly. Pip does this all with Ravi, the brother of the case’s main suspect, and fellow investigator. He is a calm, levelheaded, sarcastic and whip-smart counterpart to Pip. Their chemistry is one of the best things about the book and constantly kept me entertained, even through the serious topics. Ravi is also excellent POC representation. He is a fully well-rounded character that exists beyond his race and skin colour. I love how Holly Jackson is able to incorporate just enough of Ravi’s background to remind readers of his origins without making that his entire personality. Personally, I am a huge proponent of the mystery/thriller series but even if you are not, I think this is a really good taste of the genre. The mystery is complex enough to hold our attention but simple enough to be understandable as well. They also cover some deep and important topics (I recommend you look at trigger warnings beforehand) in a very approachable manner. This is actually part of a trilogy and in a pleasant and rare surprise, all 3 books are excellent. I ended up reading them all in the span of a week and highly recommend everyone to give them a go. I recently found out she has a new book out and can’t wait to read that as well. Happy reading everyone and let us know if you have any cozy winter reads you recommend!

Inheritance, real estate, trustfunds: all the things I hate in a book that I liked? The emotions of loss and longing were palpable in this read and it all centres around an immovable mansion that abandons our protagonists and leaves only the vivid memories that bind them to it- meaning our characters are unable to overcome their past and all they experienced. “Mothers were the measure of safety, which meant that I was safer than Maeve. After our mother left, Maeve took up the job on my behalf but no one did the same for her.” - The Dutch House, Ann Patchett

Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family's history that began before he was born — a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam — and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation. At once a witness to the fraught yet undeniable love between a single mother and her son, it is also a brutally honest exploration of race, class, and masculinity. Asking questions central to our American moment, immersed as we are in addiction, violence, and trauma, but undergirded by compassion and tenderness. It is as much about the power of telling one's own story as it is about the obliterating silence of not being heard.⁣ ⁣ I got to read this book as a buddy read with @onebusybiblio this month. We had been planning to read this book for quite some time, so I am happy we finally aligned our schedules to do it! This book is a poetic masterpiece. The prose is so lyrical and captivating, it is easy to tell that it is written by a poet. The story also is told with a lot of vulnerability and examines some tough topics. I could really feel the emotion behind the written words and could really sense what the character was trying to convey. I also loved how the story was told, where memories and present life wove through each other. Overall, I definitely recommend this book and cannot wait to read more from Ocean Vuong. ⁣ ⁣ 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: What is one book you would recommend for a fall read?

Seems like I found myself another series to obsess with! ★★★★★ (5/5) Love stories from fantasy genre just hits different, trust me. And, 'Serpent & Dove' has one of my favorite troupes of 'enemies to lovers'. Between a witch and witch hunter. Couldn't help but read it. It had everything I expected out of it. Witchcraft, magic, love, action, friendship, betrayal, perfect backdrop atmosphere, ancient, set in France and what not. I find it hard to believe that this is the author's debut work. It was really ideal in so many ways. The storyline was good and made sense. The plot furthers through two POV's from the two protagonists. Lou (The Witch) and Reid (The Chasseur/Witch Hunter). Both had their own beliefs on their systems but it was very well balanced on the go. Their romance was spot on. I liked the way it went through. The friendships portrayed and the characterization of each one was woven well. Though I did predict few of the twists, it didn't stop me from enjoying it. It was even funny at some points where I laughed out loud. I wouldn't say it was a very spectacular read for am rating it 5 stars but, it is worth reading it if you actually like the synopsis. Because what was promised has been given. What I expected and went into the book has been satisfied. So...Oh yeah, also book 1 ended with a cliff hanger. I do need to get my hands on book 2 soon!!!! Years ago I did fundraising for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in a small office building in Toronto, Canada (weird right!) That experience came back to me in a scene where Millie gets a job selling season tickets for the ballet. Halle Butler nails it. I never would have thought of writing down my experience, I thought having to take a job like that was all my fault. I really liked the New Me. I started and finished it in 2 days, the fastest I’ve read a book in a long time. Millie is both blind and defensive about her privilege. Her parents bail her out financially, and she has no student loan debt. But she has also never learned to be self sufficient. She can’t manage to shower before her office assistant temp job. Can’t see life beyond her Chicago apartment. She’s horribly depressed. She casually and abstractedly thinks about throwing herself out her living room window. She flashes back to a memory of a brilliant take down of a girl at a party for using the word “utilize.” It would have been funny if she hadn’t said it right to the girl’s face. The author includes brief chapters from the perspective of other minor characters. Some of the ladies at the office are pretty chill, and would make much better friends than the awful Sarah, someone who Millie clings to after randomly meeting at a party. Some people don’t have a creative outlet. Mental illness, menial work, no dreams. A vague unease. Self loathing. Embarrassed by your own rage. Millie’s experiences are so familiar. Millie doesn’t have to deal with roommates, but maybe she should. I once lived in a mouldy mildewy basement where the windows couldn’t be opened from the inside. I once paced around my apartment in tears, forcing myself to drink a cup of tea before allowing myself to crawl back into bed. Millie is in a space where listening to music while eating seems impossibly unattainable. Millie is the odd daughter of odd parents. What do people have without hopes, dreams, career possibilities, and when all the old roadmaps are thrown out the window? I hope it’s not too late for Millie, because I hope it’s never too late for me. Has anyone else read this?

What would you like to see from me for this page? Honestly, reading is my mai hobby, but after graduating Friday, I kind of feel like I want a break from it/bookstagram - I’m noticing myself not having the greatest relationship with social media and I want to get off my phone this summer/take more thoughtful pictures. That’s why I’d like to know what you want to see from me. I go through periods where I can read a book, but it feels like I’m flying through it and not really absorbing what’s happening. I want this account to be either more review based and welcome any feedback OR more casual with shorter captions, especially as I transition to college (😶). Also, this is my book journal from 2019. That was a turning point fro my reading interests - I started getting into YA a lot. Descendant of the Crane, The Tiger at Midnight, The Gilded Wolves, and We Hunt the Flame all came out that year! #Bookstagram #YABooks #Read #Reader #BookJournal #Journal #BookShelf #YAReader #YABook #2019Books #Book #Bookstagrammer

“She'd nod or laugh as she took a brush, a pair of scissors, a razor, a hot iron to their slightly bowed heads full of clips, wrapped their wet locks one by one into little squares of tinfoil, then made them sit under what I believed, at the time, to be brain-sucking head ovens. There they'd contentedly cook, flipping through magazines.” —Bunny, Mona Awad (2019) I read Bunny a fair couple of months ago, but I still think of it quite a lot. Way too often, to be honest, for it was such a weird book—and I loved, no, love it. If you also enjoy unconventional reads and wouldn't mind a tiny little bit of gore here and there, then I implore you, my dear friend, to give Bunny a shot.

I cannot get enough of this book! (Lost and Wanted by Nell Freudenberger) I am only 65 pages in so far, so I’m not entirely sure where it’s going, but I plan to spend a lot of time reading it today. {Image description: My left hand holds a book called Lost and Wanted against a blue sky with trees in the background. The book has a geometric pattern on the front in blue, orange and red shades, with the silhouettes of two women facing in opposite directions. The words ‘Lost and Wanted’ are splashed across the front in white upper case lettering, with the author’s name, Nell Freudenberger underneath.}

𝔹𝕒𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕚𝕤𝕥 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨: One of my goals for 2022 was to read more backlist books. In an effort to make sure I was successful in this goal I joined the ✨𝟏𝟐 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 + 𝟏𝟐 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 📚 + 𝟏𝟐 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 ✨ challenge where I ended up with a variety of books to read over the course of this year. For January, I chose 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐒 by Caroline De Robertis, recommended to me by Carla from @happiestwhenreading. Wow! This book could not have been a better start for the challenge.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘴 is an absolutely beautiful story of five queer women living in Uruguay. As the story opens in 1977 the country is living under a harsh military dictatorship, where any sort of dissent or breaking of “norms” can result in prison sentences or worse. The five gel together almost by chance, as they escape the capital for a week at a small beach town, Cabo Polonio. Alternating between Montevideo and Polonio, the story follows the women for more than thirty years as their lives shift and change, as they see lovers come and go, and as their country finally asserts power from the people. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I was grabbed from the very beginning and loved the depth De Robertis gave to her characters. Each of the five women I came to adore for their own unique personalities. Even as the book slowed a bit in the second half, I still could not put it down. I had to know where these amazing women would land. It was a powerful, emotional read and I’m so grateful to Carla for recommending it to me. I learned a lot, both about Uruguay's history and what it is like to be forced to live a “secret” life. If the remaining 11 books in the challenge turn out to be as good as 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘴, I’m going to be one lucky reader! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ #Cantoras⁣⁣ #CarolinaDeRobertis⁣⁣ #Knopf⁣⁣ #HappiestWhenReading⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ ∙⁣⁣ #backlist #backlistbooks #backlistread #queerbooks #bookstragram #bookstagrammer #igreads #instabooks #booksofig #reader #booklover #bookish #ilovebooks #grateful #novelvisits #booksbooksbooks #alwaysreading #readmore #2019books #12challenge2022

⭐️Book Review ⭐️ Come Find Me by Megan Miranda ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This book took me by surprise - I thought it was going to be more sci fi - and it had some - but it was an amazing suspense/mystery/thriller. I love stories that seem all over the place and then connect at the end, and this one did just that. The end was phenomenal and not at all what I was expecting, I was trying to guess all the way through. I absolutely LOvE Megan Miranda books and this one was no exception, she has an amazing way of writing likeable, realistic characters and creating their worlds and situations so you are just drawn in and then can’t stop! I read this book in two days! Couldn’t put it down! #bookstagram #bookreview #january2022bookreads #comefindmebook #meganmiranda #ya #mystery #suspense #thriller #2019books #supernatural

Just okay. A lot of controversy over this book so tried not to let that spoil my opinion. The author is a gifted writer, I liked her style and would read her other works. She clearly did her research. The book was engaging enough to finish. Mostly I enjoyed the journey of a woman making her way across the border with her son which has been covered as a theme by many other authors as well. I never tire of these stories because that shit is real. Where the good ends for me is the whole fleeing from the cartel as the only remaining members of their family, being chased by some narco kid, and her weird relationship with el jefe, a bit much. I get that this was a work of fiction, fine. But the subject matter of border crossing is real and i found it gets muddy by this outsized drama so I wasn’t a big fan. Prob would not recommend. #americandirt #femaleauthors #bookreview #botm #oprahsbooksclub #bookstagram #books #2019books

A whirlwind of a thriller. Thoughtful characterization of two types of woman you can become after a childhood of pain. Well-paced thoughts on who to protect, who to throw to the wolves, and if these matters are questions or justice or alliances. Once I picked it up, I could not stop until it was through (even though I got a migraine somewhere around page 250). • If you haven’t gotten your hands on this one already, do it now, to meet a woman who receives a bouquet of orchids and texts the man who sent them to say “I. Really. Prefer. Roses.” And her older sister, who knows how to clean blood off tile floors so a murder can disappear into thin air. • 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

How long have you been on bookstagram? Three Year Anniversary: Part One of Three - This year marks my third year anniversary of joining bookstagram. When I first joined, I didn’t expect to find a community that would want to get to know me beyond my love of books. It’s become more than a place for me to simply post about books I enjoy. I’ve made friends who I know I want to meet in real life. However, I feel like I want to be something additional with my bookstagram. I’ve been looking back on past posts, and I want to write more reviews (my NetGalley shelf is staring at me). I wrote a college essay on the fact that bookstagram is something I do for myself. I do it because I like books. My main mission is promoting diverse books because I didn’t see myself represented as a Filipino until 2019, and as an Asian adoptee until this year. I’m ok with the fact that it’ll take time for me to get better at writing reviews. It’s ok for me to be doing this for fun while also recognizing that I have to opportunity to grow as a writer. . . . . . . . . . . #Bookstagram #YABooks #Reader #Read #YoungAdultBooks #2019Books #2018Books #YAAuthors #Book #BookShelf

This beauty of a book recently celebrated its two-year anniversary 😍 This one is @erinmorgenstern’s second novel after #TheNightCircus, which we allllll know I adore. And while The Night Circus is possibly my favorite book of all time… #TheStarlessSea is one that crept right into my soul. It nestled behind my ribs and decided it would stay. It’s a very different book from her first, but I found it to be so wonderful. The way she weaves plot and story and fable and magic and adventure together is truly special. I’ve been, as I mentioned yesterday, in a bit of a book hangover the last week or so. Maybe it’s time for me to go with a reread. Have you read this one? What’s a book that shocked you when you fell in love with it the way you did?

🌟Book Review 🌟 Someone We Know by Shari Lapena ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Wow! 😯 this book was truly a gem to read! It literally had me guessing up until the end, and I was shocked! I read a lot of thriller/suspense/mystery books; and I can usually figure out the ending, but this one I didn’t have a clue - and it was amazing! 🕵️‍♀️ This is another amazing read by the amazing Shari Lapena. I’ve said it before but I love her books, they have a Agatha Christie vibe to them, lots of suspects with motive and opportunity. These books usually only take place over a couple of days, but they are so gripping and intriguing; so much happens in these couple of days. These characters were both annoying and charming and I disliked and loved them all at different point of the book. Definitely a must read for any mystery book lover 📖❓ #bookstagram #bookreview #sharilapena #someoneweknowbook #thriller #mystery #detective #suspense #octoberbookreads #2019books #canadianauthors #doubledaycanadapublishing

🌟 Book Review 🌟 The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley ⭐️⭐️/5 Where to begin with this book review - well, it was a interesting enough story, but it read more like a drama with a little murder mystery sprinkled in. It didn’t seem thrilling or suspenseful at all, and the minor blips in between when they are investigating the missing guest, was just too few and far between. I found the back stories of all the friends to be boring and it didn’t feel like it added anything to the story, it wasn’t information that I needed to understand the end of the story - these characters were very deep or intriguing in any way. Lucy Foley does paint a beautiful picture of this secluded resort, however, the story itself was not captivating at all. I read the Guest List and was interested and it made me think and second guess all the characters up until the end, but this one just felt like it fell flat. ❄️ 🏠 🎉 ❄️ #bookstagram #thriller #suspense #bookreview #mystery #lucyfoley #thehuntingpartybook #canadianbookstagram #octoberreads #2019books

ℕ𝕠𝕣𝕞𝕒𝕝 ℙ𝕖𝕠𝕡𝕝𝕖 𝘉𝘺 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀 (Goodreads) At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He’s popular and well-adjusted, star of the school soccer team while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her housekeeping job at Marianne’s house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers - one they are determined to conceal. A year later, they’re both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years in college, Marianne and Connell circle one another, straying toward other people and possibilities but always magnetically, irresistibly drawn back together. Then, as she veers into self-destruction and he begins to search for meaning elsewhere, each must confront how far they are willing to go to save the other. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 ⭐⭐ 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭) I really struggled with this one. (Sorry to all of Sally Rooney's fans)This is a love story between two millennials who share a special bond but that bond never eventuates to anything. There was no climax, no twist, no cliffhanger, nothing. The story was... 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁. It was literally just dictating what is going on between two people. There was some bullying involved with Marianne's brother, Alan. And a very abnormal family relationship, but that part was never fully explored nor was there any closure. Marianne is a masochist, but that's all there was. No development of her in any sense of what that entails. At the end of the book, my first thought was ' That's it?' Sadly, that was it. #normalpeople #sallyrooney #overratedbook #bookstagramfeature #bookreviewer #bookreview #popularbooks #2019books #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookreflections #readinglist #igreads #igbooks #instareads #igreaders
