Book Review One of the Good Guys 📚 Saw this in the library this morning and decided it will be my Saturday read. I’ve had my eye on it for a while and I’m actually not sure if it was worth the wait. Synopsis: Desperate to escape his failed marriage, Cole upends his life. He leaves London behind for a remote stretch of coast, relishing the respite from the noise, drama, and relentless careerism that curdled his relationship and mental health. Leonora has made the same move for similar reasons. Although Cole still can’t figure out what went wrong with his marriage, and Leonora is having trouble acclimating to the hostile landscape, the pair forges a connection on the eroding bluff they call home. Then two young female activists raising awareness about gendered violence disappear while passing through. Cole and Leonora suddenly find themselves in the middle of a police investigation--and the resulting media firestorm when the world learns of what happened. And as the tension escalates alongside the search for the missing women, they quickly realize that they don’t know each other that well after all. Thoughts: this is sold as a gripping thriller but I actually found zero thriller feels in it (as a thriller girlie this was quite disappointing). I actually see this book as more of a think piece. There’s a lot of snippets for news articles and social media which is something I enjoy in books. However, there was just too much of it. I think maybe this is to showcase how literally every person on earth has a platform to share their opinions and there’s a lot of noise in the background of events that make the news? Normally I love a book that switches perspective but I found as it went into Mel and Lennie’s perspectives that I could see where it was going. I’m also not sure what point the author was trying to make with what happens to Molly and Phoebe, the campaigners for SafeSpaceUK, given their personalities are awful. Destroying a man’s life to make a point about how bad women have it kind of made the whole point of the book being about how hard women have it redundant? But people love this book so maybe it’s me! Have you read this one? 🌷

One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall I’ve procrastinated writing this review because I’m just not sure what to think about it. I’m so conflicted about the whole thing. The basis of the story is completely overrated - yeah, guys don’t have the same worries as women, it’s hard to be a woman, etc. It’s a very feminist, girl-power, man-hating book. However, the way the story was told was interesting. The second half has a lot of text messages, news reports, social media posts, etc. I liked the overall plot. It’s not really a “twisty/mystery” book, but yet there were twists and a mystery to solve. I absolutely hated every single character. If there was a redeeming character that we were supposed to relate to, I didn’t find them. It’s also highly character driven, and I tend to prefer plot driven books - not the book’s fault on that one. It’s very much what I’m going to call a “thought novel.” You see the same situation through two different perspectives, which I loved. But I thought both perspectives had faults. But then the most conflicting point of all (for me), this is a Gillian Flynn book - meaning she has her own set of books within an imprint. Here’s where I’m conflicted - I LOVE Gillian Flynn. Absolutely one of my favorite authors of all time. Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, Dark Places - if I could read these books again for the first time, that would be a dream. Yet, she’s super co-signed this book, and I think I hated it. There, I said it, I didn’t like this book at all. I wanted it to get better, but it just wasn’t for me. QOTD: Have you ever heard of an author having their own books within an imprint? Is this new, or am I just way behind the times? #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #zando #gillianflynnbooks #novel #fiction #characterdriven #books #reading #librarybook #newbooks #newrelease #2024release #goodguys #multipleperspectives #currentlyreading #readingrecommendations #bookreview #RebeccaReviewedIt

One of the Good Guys 🚩by Araminta Hall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow, I inhaled this book! It hit close to home as I’m sure it would with most people sadly ! I’ve definitely had some similar 🚩 experiences. The book dives into women’s safety and takes on the myth of the so-called “nice guy’’. It is intense and thought-provoking, with twists that kept me guessing. #oneofthegoodguys #redflag #aramintahall #goldsboro #goldsborobooks #sprayededges #bookreview #thriller #feministthriller #read #reading

I listened to this yesterday and I'm still 🤯🤯 over it! What have you been reading or listening to this week? REVIEW I’m leaving this unrated because I’ve not a clue where to put my rating. This was an unputdownable contemporary fiction/thriller addressing misogyny, coercive control and generally bad behaviour on both sides. What was so clever about this story was the way the author unfurled the characters layer by layer so that no-one was quite the person they seemed initially. Cole, oh Cole, where to start and how to describe this man. Someone who believed in themselves and their integrity. His tunnel vision about having a baby was unreal and so very unsettling. His ex, his new friend, they were so interesting. I could never have called the big reveal that came even with a little inkling of foreshadowing about connections between some of the characters. The reveal left a bad taste in my mouth in terms of how Cole emerged from this but there was such crossing of lines in all parties that those discomforting feelings were inevitable. There is no black and white with this story, nor is there supposed to be, I don’t think. However, it is incredibly thought provoking and it does shine a light on aggression and violence against women. I read this in the space of half a day, that’s how incredibly what the **** this story is.

*New Review* Book 30/2024 One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall - no spoilers! I'm not a huge fan of the "watch out for the plot twist" genre but I have to admit this is a fiercely satisfying read and I likely haven't enjoyed a book of this type as much since Gillian Flynn's 'Gone Girl'. The storyline is initially told to us from the perspective of Cole, a self confessed feminist who believes his wife should be afforded the freedom to run her own business AND be a mother while he is willing to stay home and be a hands on Dad. When Mel, his wife, calls time on their marriage, Cole makes a new start for himself and can hardly believe his bad luck when he finds himself embroiled in a police investigation in his new locale. The best part of this book isn't the cleverly told tale of toxic masculinity, the me too movement or even the gender based roles we play or stories we tell ourselves about who we are, but the way it is written. Hall switches tack completely mid book, the narrator changes, and later still, the style and format pivot again and the plot unfolds through the form of social media posts, whatsapp messages and news articles. It makes for a very enjoyable reading experience and keeps the reader invested in the storyline by switching up the style instead of giving you whiplash by dropping in crazy twists and turns. A real page turner, I read it in a couple of sittings. Highly recommend for those looking to break a reading slump. ✨️4 stars for the genre buster! ✨️ #OneOfTheGoodGuys #Bookstagram #WicklowLibraries #panmacmillan

One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall 🔪🌊 Thank you to @netgalley and @panmacmillan for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was absolutely incredible! The audiobook had a great cast of voice actors and this coupled with the mixed media elements such as podcasts and radio broadcasts made this feel more like a true crime documentary than a mystery novel. Plot and theme wise this felt very similar to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn which is up there with my favourite books so needless to say I loved this. It was infuriating and anger inducing in the best way possible. I would highly recommend this book especially if you can get hold of the audiobook! #netgalley #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #bookreview #bookstagram

❣️One Of The Good Guys by Araminta Hall❣️ "If most men claim to be good, why are most women still afraid to walk home alone at night?" Coles wife has recently left him, for reasons he still can't quite make sense of, and has moved to a cottage on the coast. He meets and connects with artist Leonora, who has also recently relocated near Cole. 2 young women who are raising money for a domestic violence charity go missing on their walk, and Cole and Leonora are caught in the middle of the police investigation. Do they really know eachother at all? I devoured this book so quickly, I did not want to put it down. From the first pages, it hooks you in with 2 intertwining stories to tell. We find out all about Cole and his marriage, and the story of the girls on their charity walk. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say it is a wild read! It had an important theme running throughout, but didn't feel repetitive. The ending wasn't one I expected at all, but I can definitely appreciate why it ended the way it did. A very thought provoking story with lots of areas for discussion. I feel this will be a very controversial book, so if you've read it, let me know!🫶 . . . . #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #2024releases #readingchallenge #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookrecs #thrillerbookrecs #bookstagramuk #bookstagram

Here’s the thing. I adore reading, and nothing gives me greater joy than picking up a book. I am incredibly lucky and very grateful that I do get sent books to read and review too. Before I started book blogging, I used libraries all the time, and I even dedicated a blog post to them. Here’s an extract: “As we all surely know by now, libraries are incredibly important for so many people for so many reasons. In my case, at various points in my life, libraries have been the thing that has got me through the week. They were the place I could go to when I didn’t have a job and very little money, where I could choose books to take home and lose myself just for a little while without worrying about the world outside. They have been my safe haven when I needed to have some time to myself and when I was alone in Leeds, talking to the library staff was often the only human contact I had aside from talking to my parents in Wales. The Book Club in Headingley Library was one of those times in my life where books and reading were truly what kept me going. It helped me understand that meeting and talking to other bookish people is not only the best feeling in the world, but that when you can share the love of reading with someone else who absolutely understand what books mean to you – you are never on your own.“ Being a carer now means I don’t get to go out during the week, so now on Saturday mornings, I am going to try and use my local #GreatMissenden library as often as I can. I know I had forgotten how amazing, and how necessary they are for so many of us too. I chose: 📚 #RiverEastRiverWest by @aubenoisette 📚 #RestlessDollyMaunder by #KateGrenville 📚 #OneoftheGoodGuys by @aramintahall Two @womensprize books that look intriguing, and you all told me how fabulous Araminta’s novel is, so I wanted to read it! (No books were harmed by Jasper - he is just nosy!)! A provocative story that seems outlandish but hits close to home for far too many. The alternating POVs interspersed with news reports, social media comments and Reddit threads just added to the realism. Favorite read of the year(probably).

🎧𝘼𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬🎧⁣ ⁣ Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the ALC to review. ⁣ ⁣ What a different kind of thriller that had quite the twist I really did not see coming! I thought this was headed one way, and it took a left turn and I was stunned. This is my first read of Hall’s and I need to go back and read her backlist after this one. I really enjoyed the audio, and was glad I listened to it vs. reading the physical copy as it included sounds such as texting, etc. during the portions of the book that referred to social media, which only enhanced the experience.⁣ ⁣ This was refreshing in a way to focus on how women feel walking home at night, why we don’t feel safe and how it is viewed by society. It also shows though how it can be easy to judge ‘one of the good guys’ and put them on the social judgment stand right off the bat. It was an excellent look into both sides of the coin for sure.⁣ ⁣ ❓What did you end April with reading?⁣ ——⁣ Desperate to escape the ghosts of his failed marriage, Cole upends his life. He leaves London behind for a remote stretch of coast, relishing the respite from the noise, drama, and relentless careerism that curdled his relationship and mental health. Leonora has made the same move for similar reasons. She’s living a short walk from Cole’s seaside cottage, preparing for her latest art exhibition. Although Cole still can’t figure out what went wrong with his marriage, and Leonora is having trouble acclimating to the hostile landscape, the pair forges a connection on the eroding bluff they call home.⁣ ⁣ Then two young female activists raising awareness about gendered violence disappear while passing through. Cole and Leonora suddenly find themselves in the middle of a police investigation—and the resulting media firestorm when the world learns of what happened. And as the tension escalates alongside the search for the missing women, they quickly realize that they don’t know each other that well after all.⁣ —— ⁣ #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #macmillanaudio #bookswithjams #bookphoto #bookreview #booknerd #bookstoread #dallasblogger #MacAudio2024

I was obsessed with her book Our kind of cruelty when it came out in 2018, so I was eager to get my hands on this one but it was kind of a let down for me 🫣 The plot twist was weird and I just didn’t love how political it turned out to be. One Of The Good Guys By @aramintahall Hardback published by @panmacmillan 4th January 2024 ISBN 9781035018109 Cole is the perfect husband, a romantic, supportive of his wife’s career, keen to be a hands on dad, not a big drinker. A good guy. So when his wife leaves him, he’s floored. She was lucky to be with a man like him. Craving solitude, he accepts a job on the coast and quickly settles into his new life. Then he meets reclusive artist Lennie. And although she is quite different from the woman he’d expected, he believes he has finally found a soul mate. But as their relationship develops, two young women go missing while on a walk protesting gendered violence, right by where Cole and Lennie live. Finding themselves at the heart of the police investigation and media frenzy, Cole soon realises they don’t know each other very well at all. The book for women who have had enough. If most men say they’re one of the good guys, then why are so many women afraid to walk alone at night? MY REVIEW One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall is one my favourite books, I must shout out loud about, it’s page-turning, a real must buy, must read! Although it says One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall is for 18 years and over, it’s for of us bloggers and general adult readers, that like those twist that deeply set in, that come out, giving shock waves messing with your mind. Cole and Mel meet each other through a dating website. Cole has just gone through a messy divorce. Cole meets single mother artist, Lennie she seems much different to him, with Lennie being much a warmer kind of woman than his wife. Two women set off to walk for women, a charity called Safe Space UK that’s part of walking for women who are affected by violence. When the two women go missing, police question Cole. Twists & turns grabbed hold of me, with my mouth falling to a big, O shape. Book 6 of 2024. Read 18.01.24 Rated 4 stars. I found that this had a very slow beginning and I was slightly scared that I was going to have to chose to not finish however I continued on with it and the middle and the end certainly made up for it as they were a lot more fast paced. I really enjoyed the multiple forms of communication as loved how well the merged with the normal format of the story. (I.e what's app, texts and forums) Overall I really enjoyed it and didn't see the ending coming. Is he a nice guy? His ex wife doesn’t think so. Is he a reliable narrator? I keep going back and forth between whether or not he is being devious or if the women are building their own narrative.

5 Star ⭐️ Book 📖 Review: One of The Good Guys by Araminta Hall @aramintahall Highly Recommend! This was such a good thriller. “If most men claim to be good, why are most women still afraid to walk home alone at night?” Cole changes his path because of a failed marriage and moves from to London to remote living. Leonora has made almost identical choices and she lives close to Cole. They make a connection and soon find themselves in the middle of a investigation when two female activist disappear. Y'ALL. The HOLD this book has on me! I DEVOURED it. I cannot stop thinking about it. One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall is a brilliantly told thriller set in the English countryside along a cliff. The storytelling is smart and varied. The first half of the book is told through the POV of Cole, a man who a recently separated from his wife after having many IVF woes and has moved to the country to get away. Everything feels a little eggshelly and off in Cole's mind... his entire narrative left me on edge and I couldn't pinpoint why. Through him we meet Lennie, an artist who is on retreat in a nearby cottage, and 2 women who are on a pilgrimage up the English coast to spread awareness about violence against women. And then BAM. Now the story is being told through intertwining POVs of Mel, Cole's estranged wife, and Lennie. And THEN the story switches to being told through news reports, message boards, interviews, newspaper articles, text message chains. It is a beautifully done. I was listening to the audiobook which has a full cast and wonderful folly work. All the news alerts had intro music, there was key typing in the background when a character was sending a text, there was background noise when reporters were on the scene. All in all it was an extremely well done production that kept me engaged the entire time. And the TWISTS this one takes. Highly recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ . . . . . #nofilter #bookreview #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #aramintahallbooks #canon #canonphotography #canon7d #redrising #theexpanse #bookreader #bookstack #thriller #thrillerbooks #thrillerbookstagram #womensrights #causethisisthriller

Hmmm. This was a strange one and I have mixed feelings. I thought about DNF’ing numerous times but it was easy reading so ploughed through. It is essentially a feminist thriller. The premise was great and had well thought potential but the leading male character, Cole, was so unlikeable from the start it was sometimes difficult to care about his narrative and what he was getting up to. Cole has just separated from his wife of seven years and is devastated. He leaves London for a new life in the countryside and meets Lenora; an eccentric artist and they become friends. Meanwhile two young women are walking across country to raise awareness for violence against women, documenting it all online via live streams. But suddenly disappear in the same town as Cole and Lenora - who are then drawn into a police investigation which reveals the truth about who they really are. Finally we find out what happened in Cole’s previous marriage as ex Mel tells her side of the story. The truth is portrayed via news reports, online articles, text messages and podcasts and I like this method of reveal. This book explores the delicate matter of women feeling afraid on a day to day basis; fear of walking alone in the dark etc, and exploring the relationship between genders. It is definitely thought provoking so deserves some praise. But overall too much of a depressing read for me, I found it unsettling and I didn’t like the ending. It gave me weird black mirror vibes. I wouldn’t recommend this one. #book #bookclub #bookcommunity #booksbooksbooks #booklove #bookrecommendations #bookreviews #bookblog #bookblogger #bookaddict #booktok #bookobsessed #hardback #oneofthegoodguys #read #readmore #readmorebooks #bookstagram #instablog #instabooks #instabook

One of the Good Guys is an interesting read. It’s described as a psychological thriller which I guess it is but I wouldn’t say it’s that easy to categorise. Overall I enjoyed it and gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Cole is the perfect husband: a romantic, supportive of his wife, Mel’s career, keen to be a hands-on dad, not a big drinker. A good guy.

So when Mel leaves him, he’s floored. She was lucky to be with a man like him.

Craving solitude, he accepts a job on the coast and quickly settles into his new life where he meets reclusive artist Lennie.

Lennie has made the same move for similar reasons. She is living in a crumbling cottage on the edge of a nearby cliff. It’s an undeniably scary location, but sometimes you have to face your fears to get past them.

As their relationship develops, two young women go missing while on a walk protesting gendered violence, right by where Cole and Lennie live. Finding themselves at the heart of a police investigation and media frenzy, it soon becomes clear that they don’t know each other very well at all.” There are a lot of men out there like Cole who convince themselves they are good guys and simply can’t accept that there are any issues with their behaviour. It’s scary really when you think about it. This was a really quick read and I always looked forward to picking it up. 🎧📖 AUDIO BOOK REVIEW - ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS BY Araminta Hall 📖🎧 Told in multiple viewpoints, One of Those Good Guys is a story that has you questioning who to trust? First there’s Cole, the perfect husband who doesn’t understand why wife Mel has turned so cold and pulled the plug on their marriage. But Mel tells a different story, of corrosive control, emotional blackmail and abuse. Then there’s Lennie, who hooks up with Cole and reconfirms to him he is one of the good guys. But when two girls go missing near to where Cole and Lennie are staying, everything points to Cole… This was such a twisty, thought provoking story of control, power, revenge and taking the law into your own hands. There’s lots of questions raised throughout and a very unsettling feeling of never knowing who to trust. It leads you down one path before throwing huge twists and sending you hurling down another I listened to this story and for the most part the narration was excellent - Cole’s voice having the right amount of creep to just make you feel uneasy. One complaint I had, which I think might be specific to the audio, there is lot of social media posts throughout this story from twitter, instagram, podcasts, blogs etc and it didn’t really translate well at all on audio. I really disliked and disengaged with those bits but think it would’ve worked a lot better had I been reading traditional print Overall though, this was an addictive story that shocked and surprised me many times. Unnerving, thought provoking and compulsive - recommended! #oneofthegoodguys #bookreview #audiobookreview #bookstagram #cosybooks #booksandflowers #springreads #2024reading

✨ last, now, next ✨ I was scrolling through my tagged challenges and realized I never did the #lastnownext that @mccallwrites tagged me in wayyyy back. So here it is! The last book I finished was: One of Good Guys by @aramintahall - this was a thought-provoking book about gender relations that left me feeling frustrated and angry at the characters and at the world. I both loved and hated the book, if that makes any sense and I urge you all to read it so that you understand how I feel (4.5/5) Current book I’m reading (almost done!): A Fate Inked in Blood by @ danielleljensen - a Viking/Norse-inspired romantasy that I think fans of ACOTAR and Fourth Wing will love 🌶️. I’m currently leaning towards a 4/5 rating but we’ll see if the last few chapters will change my mind about the rating 😉 Next book: The Heiress by @ladyhawkins which I’ll probably start tomorrow. I also borrowed the audiobook so we’ll see which format I prefer for this book! Tagging a few others to show your last, current and next reads! . . . . . #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #theheiressbook #rachelhawkins #afateinkedinblood #danielleljensen #librarybooks #libraryhaul #lastnownextreads #lastnownextchallenge #lastcurrentnext #lastcurrentnextreads #bookishtag #bookishpost #bookishchallenge #whatimreading #bookreview #bookrecommendations #readersofinstagram #canadianbookstagrammer #canadianbookstagram #bookishcanadians #readmorewomen #currentlyreading #readersgonnaread #readmorebooks

So I never got chance to read this in February with @gin_and_phonics_bookclub as there was a bit of waiting list for this one and now I have finally read I can see why! The story is about Cole and his ex wife Mel and reason why they split, at first you assume Cole is the victim but then when you read Mels POV you think Mel is the victim of controlling behaviour but as the story goes along there are a few twists that I can't talk about without giving it all away but This certainly is a good one, it certainly kept me turning my page literally read this in 24hrs! #recommendedbook #bookreview #oneofthegoodguys #bookstagrammer #librarybook # #hardbackbook #booknerd #bookworm # #ukbookworm #booksofinstagram #bookpicture #lovetoread

📚2024年第5本小說|新好男人圖鑑 One of The Good Guys - Araminta Hall 🔖 佳句 “there is so much to fear as a woman, but what people think of you shouldn’t be one of them.” “all those who die there are thousands of others living in fear all day everyday.” “Violence against women will only stop when we address this issue, when we understand that a power dynamic exist which is demanding to everyone apart from a tiny percentage of men who have always held all the power.” “Our stories have for ever been filled with men battling the bad side of themselves but wanting to be good. And women have been only too happy to help them.” “But the truth is, men who want to protect women should never be trusted because we only feel the impulse to protect the things we think of as weaker than ourselves.” 🍸🍸🍸

4/2/2024, 12:55:05 PM

📚 Wrap Up 📚 I had a weird old reading month in March - between the flu and norovirus I was ill nearly the full time and my concentration wasn’t the best. It’s also been my busiest month of the year so far with weekends away to Arran and Leith, a few different social plans in between and crisis a plenty at work. Yet I still got through a fair pile of books including a few chunks. The Way of Kings was easily my favourite read of the month and I am fully IN this world now. Had to hold myself back from just binging the rest of the series. Where the Heart Should was also spectacular but that did not surprise me one bit as Sarah Crossan is one of my most favourite authors. 💁🏻‍♂️Review💁🏻‍♂️ One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall Pub Date:1/9/24 Publisher: Zando Cole has recently separated from his wife and left London for a new start at country living. Lenora is an artist preparing for a new exhibition who has also moved to a cottage nearby. The two strike up a friendship being the only people living near each other in an otherwise isolated area. When two young women trying to raise awareness on gendered violence go missing, Cole and Lenora find themselves in the middle of the investigation and media storm. The story begins with Cole’s point of view and he genuinely believes he is a ‘good guy’, someone who loves women and treats them with respect. But is he? Shifting to Lenora’s viewpoint is eye opening as we learn not all is what it seems; her perception drastically differs from Cole’s. An epistolary portion focuses on social media posts and news outlets about the two missing activists including public opinions on the involvement of Cole and Lenora. This was done so brilliantly and accurately, it felt like a current event that actually happened. Gender wars seemed to be in full effect over this situation! I wasn’t sure what to expect from One of the Good Guys but what I got was an explosive and subversive dialogue on gendered fear and violence. In my opinion, Araminta Hall gives authentic voice to both male and female frustrations within gender relations. The disparity of fear between men and women is real and exists. Social commentary aside, this was a dark thrilling tale with people of BOTH genders behaving badly. This would make a FANTASTIC book club pick, as there is loads to unpack and discuss! ______ ⁉️Q: Let’s keep it light for #ManicMonday, How’s your day going?🤭Or what’s your favorite food? 🏷️ #OneOfTheGoodGuys #AramintaHall #ZandoProjects #GillianFlynnBooks #PsychologicalThriller #Thriller #Suspense #Mystery #SocialCommentary #MondayMadness #BiblioPeeks #BookReview #BookRecommendation #Instabook #DarkAndTwisted #Bookstagram #BookBlogger #BookInfluencer #ReadersOfInstagram #GoodReads #BookAddict #CoverLove #Bookworm #Bookish #BookReviewer #BookClubPick

ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS landed on my TBR for one reason and one reason only: Gillian Flynn’s recommendation. After thoroughly enjoying it, I am here to share many more reasons why you should pick it up ☺️ ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS is about Cole, a recently separated man who flees London for the English countryside to put distance between himself and the memories of his failed marriage. He is distraught - and confused - about the end of his relationship, which are further complicated by mysterious circumstances in his new coastal town. I was introduced to this novel at an author event at @headhousebooks hosted by Gillian Flynn. Araminta Hall’s descriptions of the themes she explores in her writing, like marriage dynamics and gendered violence, quickly helped me to realize this would not only be a propulsive read but a thoughtful one, too. These explorations, along with intentional touches like font changes for each perspective shift, are what makes this novel standout in the genre. That is not to say that the plot isn’t wonderfully captivating, too. It very much is. I plucked it off my shelf when my current read wasn’t holding my attention and immediately became enthralled. ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS provides that unputdownable feeling we all seek when picking up a thriller. The last third of the novel left me with some questions and criticisms, which I won’t get into here to avoid spoilers. It would be an excellent book club choice as there is much to discuss. Have you read ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS? Is it on your list?

Book Review: ▫️One Of The Good Guys - Araminta Hall ▫️Rating - 4/5✨ Simply put, One of the Good Guys is a good book, and it sets out to highlight a known problem in our society. From female violence, manipulation, control, and gaslighting, One of the Good Guys shows the ugly side of both men and women in a well-written narrative. Cole, Mel, Lennie B, Molly and Phoebe are the characters central to this novel and honestly, I didn’t like any of them, but I think that’s purposeful on Araminta Hall’s part. There’s so much erratic behaviour between these pages and a lot of twists that keep the pace moving nicely, I jumped a lot between whether Cole was one of the good guys, or if he was something else entirely when portrayed through the eyes of other, and I really enjoyed being kept on my toes like that. One of the Good Guys is a novel about power, misogyny, and female rage. I loved this one, and will definitely read Araminta Hall’s other novels soon

Long ish time no post, 5 days to be exact 😆 The first reason is, I forgot to be 100% honest and the second reason is hubs bought me the Baldur's Gate 3 game, I'm absolutely obsessed, and a tad hyper focused on it. Today we've been out on a photo walk to my mother's place since she has spring flowers in the garden and I really wanted to photograph them! Ofc loads of photos was taken on my way there and back again too. Now I'm exhausted, but I will manage to atleast transfer them to my phone so I can edit 🥰 Anyway, it's Easter holiday in Norway and if it's one thing a lot of Norwegians love it's Easter crime/mystery books. I don't know why, but it's a big thing. So here's a stack of them, just because of the holiday 🤣 More or less everyone here has Thursday, Friday, last half of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off here. Do you have days off during Easter? [Photo ID] Slide 1: A stack of books on a wooden table. To the left is a white mug with a Norwegian knitting design on it, points of a moose antler, and a phalanopsis orchid. Slide 2: Is same setup, but a slightly different angle so now Puscifer also is on the left side with his tounge licking his nose. Behind Puscifer is his furry cave. Books in stack nr 1 from the bottom up: Deadly Animals, Daisy Darker, One of the Good guys, Redhanded, Drapene i Tistedal. Books in stack nr 2 is the same as nr 1, but on the top is Helter Skelter. ----------------------------------------------------------------- #PåskeKrim #EasterHoliday #DeadlyAnimals #Bookstagram #BooksOfInstagram #Redhanded #OneOfTheGoodGuys #DaisyDarker #DrapeneITistedal #HelterSkelter #Caturday #CatTax #BookStack #Photography #BookishPhotography #BookstaPaws #PetsOfBookstagram #AvidReader #TrueCrime #MysteryBooks #Thrillers #Bibliophile #PhotographyWalks #ReadersOfInstagram #PrettyBooks #PåskeLesing #NorwegianTrueCrime #NorwegianSerialKiller

Book Review: "One of the Good Guys" by Araminta Hall Finished this one this morning and I am still digesting it. Heavy and timely, this book tackles the power imbalance between men and women in society and the double standards our society still upholds. Some parts resonated with me deeply and I am sure most women will connect on some level with the female characters. This book will probably make you uncomfortable on some level, which is the point. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trigger Warnings ⚠️ -miscarriage -infertility/IVF -domestic abuse/spousal murder -rape fantasy (not discussed in great detail but is a large plot point) -rape (not detailed) #bookstagram #oneofthegoodguys #domesticthriller #aramintahall

ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If most men say they’re one of the good guys, then why are so many women afraid to walk alone at night? Cole is the perfect husband: a romantic, supportive of his wife, Mel’s career, keen to be a hands-on dad, not a big drinker. A good guy. So when Mel leaves him, he's floored. Finding themselves at the heart of a police investigation and media frenzy, it soon becomes clear that they don’t know each other very well at all. This is what happens when women have had enough. Wow! Ok! So this book was not what I was expecting. It is billed as a psychological thriller but for me it fell more into the contemporary fiction genre. Regardless, it was definitely a powerful and thought provoking read that gave a very realistic voice to misogyny, controlling behaviour and violence within relationships. This unpredictable story is told through the narratives of Cole, Mel and Lennie along with mixed media excerpts. All three main characters are deeply flawed with highly questionable motives for their behaviours. The alternating past and present timelines were really effective in helping piece together the backstories. I also loved the way Hall depicted the same event/conversation from two different viewpoints, giving a 'my truth vs. your truth vs. the truth' feel to the whole book. A (sometimes) unpalatable, unpredictable and un-put down-able boom that you will love to question. #fourstars #fourstarreview #fourstarbookreview #bookreview #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinsta #bookcommunity #bookworm #bookaccount #bookfriends #readersofinstagram #readreadread #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall

Wow! What to say about this brilliant, thought provoking without giving anything away. I inhaled this novel in two days, it’s so unexpected and powerful I hardly caught my breath (from holding it to find out what happens next) I literally exhaled and said wow when I finished it, a totally gripping, groundbreaking and astonishingly good book. I tried to start writing about the story but even mapping it out would spoil the experience for anyone who’s not read it and the strong message it conveys. It really really challenges your thinking at points and I found myself deeply sighing at some of the views we’ve all encountered in life but mostly that I hope a book like this will make change where it’s badly needed. This one will linger in your mind long after you’ve read the last page. Book review of One Of The Only Good guys by Araminta Hall One Of The Only Good Guys was a new read from The author Araminta Hall and a new author that I discovered on this app A quote,’But the truth is, men who want to protect women should never be trusted because we only feel the impulse to protect the things we think of as weaker than ourselves.’ It says in the inside the book,’ Cole is the perfect husband, a romantic, supportive of his wife Mel’s career, keen to be a hands on dad, not a big drinker. A good guy. So when Mel leaves him he floored. She was lucky to be with a man like him. When reclusive Artist Lennie meets cold, he ahead started a new life as a wildlife ranger. Craving solitude Lennie is living in a crumbling cottage on the edge of a nearby cliff- it’s an undeniably scary location but sometimes you have to face your fears to get past them. As their relationship develops two young girls goes missing while Ona walk protesting gendered violence….’ One Of The Only Good Guys was definitely an interesting read of 2024. One that was definitely took a different turn to what I was expecting of the book. The book did covered many different elements in discussions forms throughout the book. Some where the impact of relationship from these discussions, victim-blaming, male violence, males trying to be in charge of women and today society’s. The whole book in the form it was written from page to page chapter to chapter was how the mystery folds into place within the characters voice . Definitely would recommend if you looking for a totally different thriller read. #qotd who is a new author you have discovered and a book of theres

MIDWEEK MUSINGS Happy Hump Day Bookstagram! It is officially 'last day of term eve!' Tomorrow is my last day at work until the 15th 🥳 To say that I've been dragging myself to the end is a slight understatement. Book Review: One Of The Good Guys Have you read this? What did you think?? - Claiming to be a “scorching psychological thriller”, this book gave me high expectations. Alas it lukewarm at best. It was well written, pacy, and didn’t suffer from any narrative dips. But the suspense didn’t hit as much as I thought. I enjoyed the concept and the plot twist. The characters were all well written and the different POVs really helped you get into their heads. The backstory and different perspectives were so insightful and gave a balanced view on gender politics. I liked that this wasn’t a “I hate all men” book. Overall, solid read. Easy to follow and quick. Characters were all great. But it was anything but suspenseful or thrilling. - #oneofthegoodguys #aramintahall #feministfiction #feministbooks #genderpolitics #thrillerbook #psychologicalthriller #bookreview #booktube #bookstagram #nottsblogger #nottsbloggers #thrillerbook #feminist

20. A definitely fun time at Padadena Playhouse’s world premiere of ‘One of the good guys,’ a Norman Lear-esque play that touches on how we all look at things nowadays, snd shows what’s remained the same, and what’s changed. But still, on top of it all, still so funny. The cast is great, especially Lana Parilla and Nico Greetham. It’s a great night out. #leolife2024 #leogem #pasadenaplayhouse #oneofthegoodguys

Have managed to find this beautiful yellow table to read at, and am enjoying some much needed glorious sunshine. What a perfect way to spend a day ☀️📚
